Hodgetwins - Super Model Hailey Bieber Accused of Cultural Appropriation Over 'Brown Glazed Lips' Aired: 2022-10-02 Duration: 10:01 === Why White Women Wear Red Lipstick (07:01) === [00:00:00] Yeah, got a new show for y'all. [00:00:02] Got a damn good show. [00:00:04] Haley Bieber, she is fine. [00:00:06] She's a supermodel. [00:00:09] And she's fine and fine. [00:00:11] Minority. [00:00:12] She's the top 1% of white women. [00:00:16] Of all women. [00:00:20] It's Justin Bieber's wife, huh? [00:00:22] That's Justin's girl. [00:00:24] Justin's got all kinds of white privilege coming, man. [00:00:27] This is unfair. [00:00:30] Hey, but Haley Bieber, she's put on this shade of lipstick that I would say commonly is worn by like Latinas and black girls. [00:00:41] And it's pissed the minorities off. [00:00:43] Yeah, they're claiming cultural appropriation. [00:00:46] Yeah, normally you see the niglets wearing it. [00:00:49] The what? [00:00:50] The niglets. [00:00:53] I went too far with that one. [00:00:58] You know what? [00:00:58] The first woman I seen wearing that lip combo, that makeup combo, was Naomi Campbell. [00:01:05] Dark skinning. [00:01:06] Yeah, she's hot. [00:01:07] She was in Michael Jackson's Black or White. [00:01:10] Yeah, this is what she looks like. [00:01:12] But it's pissed off so many people. [00:01:14] Good Morning America did a whole new segment on cultural appropriation because she wore a shade of lipstick that's not typically worn by white women. [00:01:23] Check this out. [00:01:24] Now we're going to go to our GMA cover story. [00:01:27] Haley Bieber facing backlash, the supermodel getting heat after sharing a makeup look on TikTok with some users calling the look cultural appropriation. [00:01:36] Stephanie Ramos has the details. [00:01:38] Good morning, Stephanie. [00:01:39] Michael, good morning. [00:01:40] Haley Bieber doesn't claim to have invented this particular lip combo in her video, the brown lip liner and the clear lip gloss, but that post about that combo led to an influx of TikTok users recreating the look on the platform and crediting Bieber as their inspiration. [00:01:56] Others calling it cultural appropriation. [00:01:59] Yeah. [00:02:00] This morning, supermodel Haley Bieber facing backlash after sharing her new lip routine on TikTok with the caption, great for all the fall things, including brownie glazed lips. [00:02:15] The now viral post causing a wave of criticism. [00:02:18] Social media users calling out the supermodel, claiming she is culturally appropriating the makeup routine using dark lip liner and clear lip gloss. [00:02:28] Popular style from the late 80s and 90s. [00:02:31] The issue is when something is sort of presented as if it's something new, when it's a practice that has been around for decades and decades. [00:02:41] African-American and Latino women get denigrated for the ways that they present. [00:02:46] Pause it right there. [00:02:48] Just keep that up. [00:02:48] Yeah, bring it back to us. [00:02:49] Bring it back. [00:02:50] No, no, right there. [00:02:50] See that? [00:02:51] They're saying they're talking about cultural appropriation as far as the lip, the lip color. [00:02:57] This was worn by, you know, people of color. [00:02:59] But it's funny. [00:02:59] They show two black women wearing blonde hair. [00:03:03] She looks like she's wearing contacts. [00:03:05] Yeah. [00:03:06] That's little Kim. [00:03:06] I'm not sure if that's her natural eyes, but I don't think so. [00:03:09] I don't think so. [00:03:10] Are you stupid? [00:03:12] And the hair is not hers either. [00:03:13] No shit. [00:03:15] But they're talking about cultural appropriation. [00:03:16] Look at that makeup. [00:03:17] That's typically worn. [00:03:18] Look at all that damn shit on her cheeks. [00:03:20] What's that called? [00:03:21] Blush? [00:03:22] Black. [00:03:23] Why are you wearing blush? [00:03:24] You black. [00:03:27] That's like the fair skin. [00:03:29] That's cultural appropriation. [00:03:30] Go ahead and continue to play the video. [00:03:33] Hair people use words like ghetto or ratchet or have these identities to denigrate women. [00:03:39] It was ghetto. [00:03:39] It was trashy. [00:03:40] It was not cute. [00:03:41] Many pointing out that the lip style was accepted when a white woman did it, but not when a woman of color did. [00:03:48] Because if that would have been me in high school, here in the Midwest, I would have gotten so much shame for that. [00:03:55] It's highly unlikely that a black or Latina woman would have the same success as her using their own trend. [00:04:02] And so you're taking from a community without giving them the credit. [00:04:06] I know it may seem as trivial as a lip gloss and a lip-lined lip, but this is a systemic issue. [00:04:13] In the end, it is still the black and Latino women that are losing. [00:04:18] They lose parts of their identity. [00:04:19] They lose their self-worth. [00:04:22] What? [00:04:23] What? [00:04:24] They lose their identity and self-worth. [00:04:27] She's having more success with that makeup combo. [00:04:29] It's because she's a supermodel. [00:04:30] It's because of what she looks like. [00:04:32] It has nothing to do with her skin color or her race or ethnicity or any of that. [00:04:35] She's just a very, she's just more popular than y'all. [00:04:38] Yeah. [00:04:38] Yeah. [00:04:39] And you know what I want to point out? [00:04:40] Cultural appropriation is just a made-up term for black and brown people to victimize themselves. [00:04:44] It's only inappropriate when a white person do it because they are the majority. [00:04:49] They're the dominant group. [00:04:50] Yeah. [00:04:50] They're superior. [00:04:54] But when a black person does it, if they wear blonde hair and a bunch of blush on their face or they wear contacts, that's not cultural inappropriation. [00:05:03] It's cultural appropriation. [00:05:04] It's not a cultural appropriation because they are the minority. [00:05:10] They are inferior. [00:05:15] That's the way they see it. [00:05:17] White people, you can't do it, but black people can do it. [00:05:19] Latino can do it because they're the minority. [00:05:22] Because they're inferior. [00:05:25] Whites are dominant. [00:05:28] This is superior. [00:05:31] Hey, put up that website. [00:05:32] I sent you all these black women wearing blonde hair. [00:05:36] Look, eight celebrities who inspire us to go blonde. [00:05:39] Beyonce, look at her. [00:05:40] See, it goes with her. [00:05:41] She's lighter skin. [00:05:42] No, she's still black. [00:05:43] She can't have blonde hair real lipstick. [00:05:44] No, no, no. [00:05:45] You take that lipstick off. [00:05:46] She's got brown lips. [00:05:47] Yeah. [00:05:48] No, that's cultural appropriation. [00:05:52] You stealing from the white woman. [00:05:54] But it looks nice on her. [00:05:55] Rihanna, it looks great on her. [00:05:58] Nikki Minaj, blonde hair. [00:05:59] Yeah. [00:06:00] Sierra. [00:06:01] Carouch trans. [00:06:02] Hold up. [00:06:02] Is she Asian? [00:06:03] Tran. [00:06:05] That's a damn Asian right now. [00:06:07] Maybe she's transgender. [00:06:08] Yeah. [00:06:10] She's Asian, right? [00:06:12] Yeah. [00:06:13] Looks good on her, though. [00:06:14] Red lipstick. [00:06:15] Taraji P. Henson. [00:06:17] It looks good on her. [00:06:18] Tara Banks, Kiki Palm. [00:06:20] It looks good on her. [00:06:21] I mean, white women, white people ain't complaining about y'all wearing blonde hair and red lipstick. [00:06:26] You know y'all complaining about white people doing some of the makeup practices. [00:06:31] Shut up. [00:06:31] Let me finish what I'm saying. [00:06:33] Why y'all complaining when a white woman start using some of the makeup practices that black and Latino women do? [00:06:39] I'll tell you more. [00:06:40] Let me finish what I'm going to say. [00:06:42] That's more of a compliment than anything. [00:06:44] They're not stealing anything. [00:06:46] Yeah. [00:06:47] I'll tell you why they pissed off. [00:06:49] Because the white woman, dare I say it? [00:06:53] Because the white woman, they feel like the white woman has now made them obsolete. === Did They Do It Better (03:00) === [00:07:01] Took y'all shit and made it, made it look even better. [00:07:07] No, you know what it is? [00:07:10] Not that the white woman took it and did it better. [00:07:12] It's just y'all have, you know, self-confidence issues. [00:07:16] Y'all don't see y'all as equal to white women. [00:07:19] What y'all are. [00:07:20] What you are, you stupid bitches. [00:07:24] Stop believing what people are telling you on the TV. [00:07:26] That's more of a compliment with, what's her name, Miss Bieber did, man? [00:07:30] Yeah. [00:07:30] You know what I'm saying? [00:07:31] They're not stealing anything. [00:07:32] I mean, it's not cultural. [00:07:33] She thought it was attractive. [00:07:34] So she did it. [00:07:35] I don't see why black women get to straighten her hair. [00:07:37] Your hair's not straight. [00:07:38] The shit looks like this. [00:07:41] Your hair doesn't look. [00:07:42] How many black women walk around like this? [00:07:44] Hey, man, that's straight on the end. [00:07:48] Put your damn hat back on. [00:07:49] I need some coach. [00:07:50] Y'all go get me a damn blonde. [00:07:53] Yeah, it can't be inappropriate when a black person does it. [00:07:56] I mean, that's how y'all saw. [00:07:57] How many of y'all black women do y'all see wearing their hair like that? [00:08:03] My opponent, exactly. [00:08:06] Is it cultural appropriation to use freaking toilets? [00:08:10] No, invented toilets, right? [00:08:11] White man. [00:08:13] If it wasn't for this white man, we'd be still shitting in holes in the ground and wiping our ass with leaves. [00:08:19] Is that cultural appropriation? [00:08:21] Plumbing, too, huh? [00:08:22] They invented plumbing. [00:08:23] Or was that the Egyptians? [00:08:25] I don't know Egyptians. [00:08:26] I mean, I just know white man invented the toilet. [00:08:30] That's why I brought that up. [00:08:32] Egyptians definitely invented slavery. [00:08:37] You see all them rocks them niggas had to pick? [00:08:40] I mean, y'all go. [00:08:42] Christianity. [00:08:44] Black people are Christians in this country. [00:08:46] Who taught y'all that? [00:08:49] Those white people. [00:08:50] If it wasn't for white people, y'all still be doing that voodoo shit in Africa. [00:08:56] Making little dolls and sticking needles in the bitch. [00:09:00] Putting salt around the damn circle. [00:09:03] Y'all still be sacrificing chickens and pigs and shit. [00:09:07] I mean, this says, what's it called again? [00:09:11] Voodoo? [00:09:12] No, that other bullshit they made up term. [00:09:14] Cultural appropriation? [00:09:15] Yeah. [00:09:15] This bullshit, man. [00:09:17] If black people can rap, white people can rap. [00:09:19] You know what I'm saying? [00:09:20] If black people can dance, white people can dance. [00:09:22] I mean, to say that another race can't do something because they are the majority is and it's inappropriate. [00:09:29] That's just straight racism. [00:09:31] Yeah. [00:09:34] Yeah. [00:09:35] Go ahead and keep victimizing yourself. [00:09:38] Should have never gave y'all this freedom, man. [00:09:41] That was a damn good show. [00:09:42] Damn good show right there, man.
