[00:00:29] The man's name was Ricardo Munoz, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. [00:00:33] Yeah. [00:00:34] Long story short, don't even tell him. [00:00:36] Just show the video. [00:00:39] All right. [00:00:39] That's a good idea. [00:00:41] It's a damn good idea, ain't it? [00:00:43] Yeah. [00:00:44] Just watch the video. [00:00:45] Check it out. [00:00:46] Hundreds of protesters taking to the streets in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, just outside of Amish Country, after police fatally shot 27-year-old Ricardo Munoz. [00:00:55] The Lancaster District Attorney's Office now saying he threatened officers with a knife. [00:01:00] David Lee Miller is live with more on the investigation and the unrest. [00:01:04] David Lee. [00:01:07] Trace, let me give you something of a timeline. [00:01:09] This incident began Sunday afternoon at about 4.15. [00:01:13] Police were called to a home for what was described as a domestic dispute. [00:01:17] A woman said her brother was becoming aggressive with her mother, and that is when this incident began to unfold. [00:01:26] The first officer on the scene approached the home, and that's when the conflict occurred. [00:01:31] The officer's body camera captured what took place. [00:01:34] What you're about to see is disturbing. [00:01:36] It is also very brief. [00:01:38] We have frozen the video at the precise moment the officer fired his weapon. [00:01:43] A man identified as 27-year-old Ricardo Munez chased the officer. [00:01:47] Investigators say based on the video and preliminary information, he had a knife in his right hand. [00:01:52] The officer then fired a shot, killing Munez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. [00:01:57] The officer, who has not been identified, has been placed on administrative leave. [00:02:00] Protesters, angry about the shooting, soon took to the streets. [00:02:04] They gathered at a police station, locking arms, ignoring warnings to disperse. [00:02:07] Bricks were thrown and a county car damaged. [00:02:10] Police then used tear gas to break up the demonstrators. [00:02:13] The city's police chief appealed for people not to resort to violence. [00:02:19] Any loss of life, regardless of how it happens, is devastating. [00:02:22] It's devastating for everybody involved. [00:02:24] It's devastating for our police department, the families, and our community. [00:02:28] It's absolutely devastating. [00:02:30] And, you know, we need the community to come together and we want the community to stay calm, stay at peace. [00:02:39] And according to court documents, one year ago, Munez was arrested for stabbing at least two people. [00:02:45] And then apparently he held the knife to his own throat when the police tried to intervene. [00:02:52] He was now awaiting trial on four counts of aggravated assault. [00:02:58] If you're that police officer, you got two options. [00:03:01] You can either shoot the man or you can get on your knees and start praying. [00:03:05] I would shoot him, but that's just me, though. [00:03:08] A lot of people think I'm kind of crazy like that. [00:03:14] I mean, what else the officer is supposed to do? [00:03:17] Yeah, run, get away from me, and just take off running. [00:03:22] You know, just let's just narrow down the facts. [00:03:25] This is a domestic disturbance. [00:03:28] Majority of the time when cops are injured or killed, a majority of the time it's going to be a domestic disturbance call. [00:03:34] This guy was getting into with his mom from what his sister is saying. [00:03:38] They call it cops. [00:03:39] Cops show up. [00:03:41] His sister comes outside. [00:03:43] You could hear a little brief verbal response telling her to get back. [00:03:47] He comes out of the house running. [00:03:49] With a knife. [00:03:50] Red sprint. [00:03:52] Running. [00:03:52] The officer has a split second to make a decision. [00:03:55] Yeah, most people in this situation, if you got a gun, you're still dead because most people can't draw that weapon that fast. [00:04:01] Yeah. [00:04:02] So this officer's highly trained. [00:04:05] I mean, but okay, y'all protesting this man's death. [00:04:08] Yeah. [00:04:08] Why? [00:04:10] I mean, what would you do? [00:04:13] Why are you protesting his death? [00:04:14] He's the reason why he's dead. [00:04:16] Not because of the police officer. [00:04:18] He put that police officer in a situation he had to defend his life. [00:04:22] Yeah. [00:04:22] I mean, seriously. [00:04:24] What could the police officer have done? [00:04:27] Throw a net on him. [00:04:28] Maybe he could have did that. [00:04:29] He could have went and just take a net and just throw it over. [00:04:31] Yeah, y'all think he predator? [00:04:33] He got one of them damn nets. [00:04:34] He can get shooting. [00:04:37] You think he's Spider-Man? [00:04:39] He just going to shoot a web over him? [00:04:41] The dude. [00:04:42] This is a human being. [00:04:43] He's mortal. [00:04:44] He's not a damn comic book. [00:04:47] Y'all protesting, attacking the police station? [00:04:50] I can see if the cop went in the house or the guy came outside and the dude had his hands up and the cop pulled up and shot him. [00:04:57] But no, that wasn't the case. [00:04:58] The cop was in danger of losing his life. [00:05:02] I could see if Mr. Ricardo Munoz was walking down the street walking his dog. [00:05:09] Yeah. [00:05:10] Just minding his own business. [00:05:11] Don't want to stick saying fetch. [00:05:13] Yeah, playing fetch with his dog, feeding pigeons in the park or something like that. [00:05:19] And then the cops come up there, gets into an altercation with him. [00:05:23] No. [00:05:24] His sister called the cops because he was getting aggressive with his mom. [00:05:29] If the sister called a cops on her brother, this has got to be bad in that house. [00:05:35] For me to call the cops on my son or my older brother or anybody, a close person of mine, it's got to be real bad because I don't like getting the cops involved for little petty stuff. [00:05:44] Yeah, it's got to be crazy in that damn house for the call. [00:05:48] And you can see how crazy it really was. [00:05:51] The cops get there. [00:05:52] This dude come out the damn house like Carl Lewis with a damn knife in his hand, holding it like it's a damn baton, like he on his damn last lap to the damn gold medal. [00:06:05] And did y'all see? [00:06:06] The cop was even reluctant into going to the house. [00:06:09] Yeah. [00:06:10] He didn't even want to go in there because he didn't have backup. [00:06:12] He was there by himself. [00:06:14] He didn't even go in the house. [00:06:15] Also, this guy had prior history. [00:06:17] I think it was within the last couple of years. [00:06:18] He stabbed like three or four people. [00:06:20] So this dude loves stabbing. [00:06:23] This dude has got a stabbing people. [00:06:29] He's prone to stabbing and he's still got that prone to stabbing. [00:06:32] He comes out of the house running. [00:06:34] And y'all here protesting, tying up the police station. [00:06:37] And you know what? [00:06:38] His police record has nothing to do with it. [00:06:40] He could have been a damn choir boy. [00:06:41] He could have been going to school to become a preacher. [00:06:44] If he comes out of the house with a knife and he's charging, you got two options. [00:06:49] You either can get on your knees and pray or you can put a couple rounds inside of him. [00:06:55] Yeah, because you know that cop has a life also. [00:06:58] I'm sure he has family, people that care about him. [00:07:01] You expect the cops to no, no, no. [00:07:06] Just take that knife? [00:07:07] No, he's got kids. [00:07:08] He's got a family. [00:07:08] He's got a wife. [00:07:09] He's got a mom, a dad. [00:07:11] His life matters too. [00:07:14] Crazy world. [00:07:16] And y'all out there protesting a man who charged a police officer with a damn butcher knife. [00:07:23] Does that make any sense to y'all? [00:07:26] I mean, does it? [00:07:27] I mean, it makes sense to me. [00:07:30] That's why they're out there protesting because the media's done a great job in making cops out to be the bad people. [00:07:37] Well, that's not necessarily true. === Media Frames The Narrative (00:50) === [00:07:39] What? [00:07:42] It's some truth to that. [00:07:43] It's just a majority of people are intellectually weak and unable to think for themselves. [00:07:48] Well, the media knows that, so they frame stories. [00:07:52] Yeah, they frame stories. [00:07:53] They spend stories in a way to make them think that cops out there hunting down people. [00:07:57] Yeah. [00:07:58] I mean, if you just look at it. [00:08:00] That's why this election is so important. [00:08:03] We got to make sure we defend our police. [00:08:05] And the only way you can do that is vote for Trump. [00:08:09] Trump 2020.
