Time Text
Good evening.
It's Tuesday, December 3rd.
I hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving weekend.
We are back one day late, but better late than never.
Welcome to a new episode of System Update, our live nightly show that airs every Monday through Friday at 7 p.m.
Eastern exclusively here on Rumble, the free speech alternative to YouTube.
Tonight...
Donald Trump, like any political leader, is subject to all sorts of reasonable criticisms about his policies, ideology, priorities, and personnel choices.
But since he emerged as a serious political force in 2015, Democrats and their allies in the liberal corporate media have avoided those sorts of critiques almost entirely.
When it comes to anti-Trump mania, there has been virtually no interest in policy debates.
Or the reasons Trump is attracting so many new voters or comparisons of Trump's rhetoric about what he would do for Americans to his actions once he's actually in office.
Liberals were desperate to avoid those sorts of substantive criticisms because in part what they feared above all else was quote normalizing Trump.
They were petrified of treating him as an admittedly heterodox but still democratically accountable politician.
Because doing so would require them to grapple with the unique and base expanding appeal, transformative coalition appeal of Donald Trump's political vision and worse still, it would require them to confront the glaring failures of their own stunted worldview of neoliberalism, militarism, corporatism and expanding neoconservatism.
Ideologies that have done so little to improve the lives of ordinary Americans and has done so much to harm them.
Something they're increasingly aware of.
That is why, that is why the avoidance of those substantive issues and those substantive policy discussions, that's why instead we have been inundated for more than eight years with a series of increasingly hysterical, hyperbolic, self-perpetuating conspiracy theories And utterly unhinged accusatory narratives about Donald Trump that continue to get more unhinged by the minute.
Trump is Hitler.
Trump is in cahoots with the Kremlin.
He's being blackmailed by Vladimir Putin.
Trump is giving away America to our enemies.
He will put his political enemies in concentration camps.
Trump will end American democracy.
He'll make himself a dictator.
If he wins, this will be the last election we ever will have.
Trump is a white supremacist and a white nationalist who will imprison or kill all racial minorities in order to racially purify our country.
And most pathetically of all, given the Democrats' own behavior and their own explicitly stated campaign goals, they've insistently claimed that Trump, if he wins, will weaponize the justice system and the DOJ to prosecute his political enemies, all while shielding his friends and family members From rampant criminality.
Now, all of these fairy tales excited.
It really did excite the very wealthy pundits and cable hosts and op-ed writers whose careers before Trump had really been dying.
It gave them a basis psychologically for believing that they were engaged in a world historic battle.
They were envisioning themselves courageously deployed to the front lines to defend American democracy against the modern-day Nazi forces occupying our sacred land that they studied in school.
They even had the audacity to commandeer for themselves the name of the actually brave French underground warriors who died in large numbers battling Nazi occupation and World War II. La resistance.
We are the resistance.
But none of this ever bore any relationship to reality outside of the fantasies of TV green rooms and large city newsrooms.
It certainly had no bearing on the lives of most people in America or their concerns.
Which they repeatedly said, they yelled, were composed not of fantasies and fears of Trump being a fascist or a white supremacist, but were composed of economic insecurity and inflation and an inability to feed their family and related economic and social problems stemming from uncontrolled illegal immigration.
And that came not just from the dreaded white voters, but increasingly a multiracial working class.
And so we just watched another national election in which the influence and relevance of the liberal corporate media not only collapsed to minuscule lows but it did so so visibly, so glaringly, so undeniably because none of what they have been yammering on about for years screeching about in the highest levels and registers Ended up mattering in the slightest.
They actually believed, in fact, at the last minute that an off-color joke told by a moderately known comedian at best on a Trump rally would somehow single-handedly sway the election in Kamala Harris's favor.
Imagine how detached one has to be from the lives of ordinary people to think that that's what is going to determine people's votes.
So many events over the past several years have exposed the utter emptiness and the dishonesty and the herd behavior and the outright absurdity of prevailing establishment liberal narratives and the way they see the world.
We have covered most of them on this show.
But when it comes to revealing just how deceitful and ludicrous they are, perhaps nothing competes with the announcement this week by Joe Biden that he was not just pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, for his multiple criminal felony convictions after spending more than a year emphatically vowing that he would never even consider for his multiple criminal felony convictions after spending more than a year emphatically But he did so by issuing one of the broadest pardons in American history,
a pardon that shields Hunter, not just from the crimes for which he was convicted, but from every conceivable crime, going all the way back to the glory days of Burisma and Ukraine and high living back in 2014, meaning that Joe Biden exploited his pardon power to protect not meaning that Joe Biden exploited his pardon power to protect not only his son, but also himself from possible criminal investigations into wrongdoing, stemming from that family's attempt to profit off their political influence in places like Ukraine and
By the way, that was the subject of reporting before the 2020 election that the CIA and the media falsely labeled Russian disinformation and big tech censored on the basis of it.
Now, Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter standing alone exposes the media narrative over the last year as an absolute joke.
As does the fact that almost none of them who spent the last year heralding Joe Biden as one of history's most honorable men for refusing to pardon even his own son, that's how much he trusts the justice system and believes in the rule of law.
None of them who said that have revisited or revised their views at all.
But again, while there are, of course, reasonable criticism of Donald Trump, and there will continue to be as he becomes president again, the liberal sectors of the ruling class, meaning the dominant anti-Trump sectors, have spent years concocting a completely fictitious world, centering themselves as the heroic protagonists That in fact have them waging a war that no one else cares about and that does not really exist.
And all of this has predictably now come crashing down.
First with Trump's resounding re-election victory, driven by a multi-racial working class coalition after they spent years accusing him of being a white supremacist Hitler figure.
And now by Joe Biden and the Democrats yet again abusing the justice system in exactly the way that they have long claimed that only Donald Trump would do so.
There's so much in this pardon by Joe Biden, in the buildup to it, in what was said about it, in what the reaction has been, in what it reveals about the liberal class and about the Democratic Party.
That it really is worth taking the time to break down and analyze and draw the implications from.
And so that's what we intend to do tonight.
Now, before we get to all of that, we have a few programming notes.

And before that could happen, Joe Biden, despite promising emphatically over and over Both himself personally, through the White House press secretary, through all kinds of other surrogates,
through media allies, swore over and over that under no circumstances would he ever pardon his son Hunter Biden because he said it would be unfair to all other Americans to see that in fact The justice system is tilted in favor of people who have connections high in government.
For example, if your dad is the president and you're convicted of felony convictions, you won't go to jail because he gets to pardon you.
And we were told over and over that the kinds of attacks on the justice system that would be necessary to justify that kind of a pardon Are the sorts of attacks that come only from Donald Trump and from his allies and not from the Democrats and Joe Biden.
They have respect for the rule of law.
They understand that if a jury of his peers convicts Hunter Biden, Hunter Biden doesn't deserve any special treatment simply because he's Joe Biden's son.
And for a year now, we have heard the most over-the-top, embarrassing, cringe-inducing tributes.
To Joe Biden as one of the United States, if not one of the world's most honorable people, as evidenced by his steadfast adamant refusal to pardon even his own son as proof of how much he honors the rule of law, how much he values the norms of the United States.
This is something that was said over and over and over and over again by the president, by his top aides, by Karine Jean-Pierre when she was asked multiple times, speaking on behalf of President Biden, by his media allies.
And constantly it was contrasted with the evils of Donald Trump, the person who, if he wins, he's going to weaponize the justice system because he, unlike Joe Biden, does not respect the rule of law.
He does not believe in the integrity of our justice system.
He believes that the justice system has been politicized and weaponized probably by virtue of the fact that The Democrats have spent more than a year making very clear explicitly that their central campaign tactic to ensure that they win in 2024 was to ensure that Donald Trump ended up convicted and imprisoned on one of the four felony cases that they brought in four separate jurisdictions against him.
But we were told over and over that President Biden's honor was forever demonstrated, was forever placed beyond question by how devoted he was to the rule of law, that he would even allow his sole surviving son, Hunter Biden, to go to prison rather than compromise Hunter Biden, to go to prison rather than compromise this noble principle of the rule of law.
And even when people said, well, it's very easy to say that now, but if the 2024 election happens and Joe Biden loses, He'll have this transition period where he won't be accountable to the American people any longer.
Isn't it obvious that he's going to use that transition period to pardon his son so that Hunter Biden, simply by virtue of being Joe Biden's son, will never spend a day in prison?
And that specific suggestion was vehemently rejected.
No, this is not a political game Biden is playing.
This is not an electioneer tactic.
This is a deeply held conviction.
This is what makes Joe Biden such a decent human being, what makes the Democratic Party such an important guardian of all things decent about American political life, a belief in the rule of law.
The belief that your treatment depends not on who you are or who you know, but what you've done.
And so, no, we were told it's not just that Joe Biden has no intention at the moment of pardoning his son, Hunter Biden.
We were told emphatically by Biden himself and everyone who speaks on behalf for him that there was no possibility that he would ever do so, that he would ever consider doing so, let alone doing so.
And this was used over and over to justify the claim that in contrast, not just to President Biden and the Democrats, but to George Bush and Dick Cheney and Republicans who had preceded Donald Trump, Donald Trump stood alone as somebody who simply disregards American norms and American institutions.
On December 2nd, Joe Biden announced that he was doing exactly that which he, his surrogate, his paid spokespeople, his media allies spent more than a year swearing and vowing would never ever happen under any circumstances.
Namely, as the CNN article from December 2nd demonstrates, President Biden pardons his son Hunter Biden.
And he didn't just pardon his son Hunter for the felony convictions that a court proceeding concluded Hunter Biden was guilty of.
I think it's really worth recalling the context of what happened here as well, which was that when Hunter Biden was first being investigated by the Biden Justice Department, the deal that the Biden Justice Department reached with Hunter Biden It was so extremely lenient,
so extraordinarily pro-defendant, so unusual in the concessions it made to Hunter Biden.
They gave Hunter Biden an immunity so broad that seasoned prosecutors and judges said that they had never seen such a gift before given to a defendant.
And when they brought this plea agreement into the courtroom, That basically was just going to be a slap on the wrist for Hunter Biden and sure that he would never be vulnerable to any future investigations for any other crimes that he committed related to that case or unrelated.
The minute the judge expressed just a little bit of concern and surprise and skepticism about how favorable this deal was to Hunter Biden negotiated by Biden DOJ prosecutors and how she had never seen anything like this before.
But Biden's DOJ prosecutors, out of embarrassment, immediately denied that they had given Hunter Biden the immunity that, in fact, they had given him.
They stood up in court once they saw that the judge was very skeptical and said, oh, no, judge, you're reading that wrong.
We're not giving him full-scale immunity of that kind.
And, of course, Hunter Biden's lawyer stood up and said, your honor, they're lying.
That's exactly what they promised.
That's what the document said, and that is what the document said.
But that was when the Biden prosecutors, under the most minimal scrutiny, became so ashamed by what they had done that they withdrew that plea agreement.
It completely unraveled.
And only then did Hunter Biden become in real serious legal jeopardy because the Justice Department, the Biden Justice Department, could no longer protect him in the way it intended.
And that was when they brought more serious charges and he pled guilty to serious felonies that likely would have sent him to prison.
And yet all along, as all of this was happening, we heard over and over that Joe Biden would never pardon Hunter Biden because this is something only Donald Trump and the Republicans do.
Unlike Republicans, who accuse the justice system of being politicized when they're accused of crimes or convicted of crimes, Democrats trust the justice system.
And yet here is what Joe Biden himself said when issuing the pardon on December 1st.
Statement from President Joe Biden.
Quote, today I signed a pardon for my son Hunter.
From the day I took office I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision making and I have kept my word even as I've watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted.
Let me just stop there.
Joe Biden is saying that his own Justice Department selectively and unfairly prosecuted his son.
We have been told that what was so dangerous about Trump and his movement is that they attack the integrity of our institutions.
They accuse our sacred Justice Department Of being selective in the prosecution, of politicizing their prosecutorial power, and in doing so, unfairly impugn the wonderful men and women who work in the FBI, in the Justice Department, in the U.S. security state.
And yet here's Joe Biden condemning his own Justice Department for, quote, selectively and unfairly prosecuting his son Hunter.
Exactly what we're told only the Trump movement does, which is what makes them so dangerous.
The president went on, quote,"...the charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election.
No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's case can reach any conclusion other than that Hunter was singled out because he is my son, and that is wrong." Now, that, of course, tracks perfectly with the arguments about Donald Trump about why he had been prosecuted in the four cases where felony charges were brought against him by two extremely liberal prosecutors,
one in Manhattan and one in Atlanta, as well as Jack Smith, who clearly was intent upon building his reputation by imprisoning Trump.
Those words are verbatim.
I was singled out.
Nobody else would have been prosecuted.
The only reason I was prosecuted was because my political enemies were determined to defeat me.
This is what we were told was so dangerous for a president like Donald Trump to say about the Justice Department as a means of protecting himself.
And yet, here is Joe Biden saying exactly the same thing.
He went on, there has been an effort to break Hunter, who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution.
In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me, and there's no reason to believe it will stop here.
Enough is enough.
For my entire career, I have followed a simple principle.
Just tell the American people the truth.
The truth?
He had spent the last year swearing up and down. - Yeah.
Every different way that he was asked.
That there was no possibility, there was no circumstance under which he would even consider the issuance of a pardon, let alone actually pardon his own son under Biden.
This is how sanctimonious these liberals are, these Democrats are.
They're so self-righteous.
First, they herald themselves for swearing they will never do something.
And then when they do exactly that, which they swear they will never do, they drape themselves in the integrity of the truth.
Yes, I've been lying to you for 10 months, but now the only important thing is that I tell you the truth.
Quote, here's the truth.
I believe in the justice system.
But as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process.
And it led to a miscarriage of justice.
And once I made this decision this weekend, there was no further sense in delaying it any further.
And then here you see this sort of technical stuff.
Be it known this day, Joe Biden, the president, pursuant to my pardon power of the Constitution, hereby grant unto Robert Hunter Biden a full and unconditional pardon And here's the amazing part.
It would have been bad enough if he had pardoned Hunter for the criminal convictions, the felony convictions to which he pled guilty.
He went way beyond that, way, way beyond that, into what is arguably the most sweeping pardon issued in decades, if not in American history.
Here's what he issued to his own son, a full and unconditional pardon For those offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken any part in during the period from January 1,
2014 through December 1, 2024. Hunter Biden was convicted of things like lying on a gun application by falsely claiming that he wasn't a drug user when in fact he was, as well as failing to pay taxes.
There were all other sorts of possible criminal accusations that were never part of this case that had a lot to do with what Hunter Biden was doing when he was profiteering off his father's influence while his father was vice president running Ukraine, when Hunter Biden was sitting on boards of energy companies in Ukraine, Burisma, for which he had zero qualifications.
He was pursuing deals in China that memos and witnesses said that Joe Biden would have been a profit participant in.
Remember, that was the New York Post reporting that they were petrified would cost Joe Biden the election in 2020 and reelect Donald Trump, which is when the CIA lied and said it was Russian disinformation.
This pardon, in other words, doesn't just shield his son from the criminal convictions that he pled guilty to and was about to be sentenced for.
It shields him for all possible crimes, going back to influence peddling and trading in Ukraine and China, for which there's evidence that Joe Biden himself may have had criminal exposure.
So this pardon not only protects Hunter Biden, but in the vastness of the scope of it, potentially protects Joe Biden himself.
It's the only other example I can think of is when George Bush 41, who was knee deep in the crimes of the Iran-Contra scandals during the Reagan administration, when George Bush was Ronald Reagan's vice president. when George Bush was Ronald Reagan's vice president.
especially in the second term when Reagan, as we all know now, was suffering from Alzheimer's and a kind of cognitive decline of the type Joe Biden has been suffering, and George H.W. Bush had a lot of foreign policy experience.
He had previously been the director of the CIA. He played a major role in what became the illegal selling of arms to Iran in order to take that money and fund the Contras to overthrow the government of Nicaragua, even though the Congress had banned any funding in order to do that.
And there was a criminal investigation, and it was arriving at the doorstep of George H.W. Bush and his close ally, Caspar Weinberger, who had been Defense Secretary under Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush issued a pardon on his way out for every single person involved in the Iran-Contra scandal, which included protecting George H.W. Bush himself, because once those criminal investigations were barred by the pardon, it meant that there was no avenue anymore to investigate the president himself.
The difference here is that Joe Biden was actually pardoning his own son after spending a year swearing he would never do so.
Here is Joe Biden in May of 2024 and here he is running on what became a major platform in the Democratic Party.
Quote, no one is above the law.
No one is above the law, said Joe Biden.
And now bears a Community note from X saying on December 1st, President Joe Biden pardoned his own son, Hunter, for crimes covering nearly 11 years of offenses against the United States.
But this is the sort of thing that Joe Biden had been long saying.
Now, here is Biden in his own words.
He had been asked over and over and over and over again.
In every conceivable way by multiple media figures who interviewed him.
And they understood the game that was being played.
They didn't want to hear, oh, I'm not going to pardon Hunter now.
They wanted to hear, is there any chance you may pardon him in the future, including if the Democrats lose the 2024 election and on your way out, you may pardon Hunter.
And their answer was always the same over and over.
Here's one example where he was interviewed while he was in Normandy.
And some of you might remember that was when he got very confused about where he was.
He wandered away from the other leaders who were there to celebrate the Normandy invasion.
It was only a few days later that he appeared at that fundraiser with President Obama where he was clearly disoriented and anyone who observed that was accused of spreading disinformation.
Only for George Clooney to come out and say, after the debate, Joe Biden needs to get out of the race because the Joe Biden that I saw at that fundraiser bore no resemblance to the Joe Biden I've known for the previous 30 years.
So here he was, not exactly in the most mentally agile state, but nonetheless very clear at least about this.
As we sit here in Normandy, your son Hunter is on trial, and I know that you cannot speak about an ongoing federal prosecution.
But let me ask you, will you accept the jury's outcome, their verdict, no matter what it is?
Yes.
And have you ruled out a pardon for your son?
Yes.
You have.
So, he says, we've ruled out a pardon for...
My son.
Not that I'm not going to give him one now, that I might give him one later.
I've ruled out a pardon.
There will be no pardon for my son.
Hear from Fox News, which details six different times that Corrine Jean-Pierre said definitively that President Biden would never pardon his son, Hunter.
And we have just some of those most emphatic ones on tape so that you can judge for yourself whether you think that the Democrats were remotely telling the truth and what they've been telling.
This is, by the way, not some ancillary...
This is not about that.
All of this was designed to create this contrast, as you're about to see, between claiming on the one hand that it's Donald Trump who does not believe in the American justice system and does not accept the results of it and accuses it of being politicized and corrupted Whereas the Democrats are so honest and so faithful to our institutions that even when it comes to the
ability to pardon his own son, to prevent his own son from going to prison, Joe Biden and the Democrats are such devotees of the rule of law that he will not even use his pardon power to prevent his own son from going to prison.
This is over many months where Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about exactly these issues.
From a presidential perspective, is there any possibility that the president would end up pardoning his son?
No.
So that question was very clear.
Is there any possibility?
Not...
Does he intend now?
Is there anything that could happen in the future ever that would cause Joe Biden to pardon, to give his son a pardon as a result of these criminal investigations?
And she said no.
No caveats.
Nothing.
That was what they were purposely doing, just like Joe Biden when he was asked.
No.
One word answer.
No.
Well, is there a question?
I just said no.
I just answered.
Go ahead.
Go ahead.
Will the president pardon his son if he's convicted?
So I've answered this question before.
It was asked of me not too long ago, a couple of weeks ago.
And I was very clear and I said no.
She was absolutely right.
She's not usually clear, even when she says she's clear.
But in this case, they were all clear, even Jill Biden.
In his state of mental disorientation, he was very clear about it as well.
They were clear over and over and over.
Here's a couple more just to give you a sense for how long this went on and just how extreme it was.
The president would not pardon or commute the census for his son, Hunter.
I just want to make sure that that is not going to change over the next six months.
It's still a no.
It's still a no.
It will always be a no.
It's still a no.
It will be a no.
It is a no.
And I don't have anything else to add.
Will he pardon his son?
No.
You know, what do you say about that?
Like, well, okay, they were lying.
It was a harmless political lie.
Again, it was central to the campaign, central to the case they were trying to make to the American people about the differences between Trump and Biden or the Democrats and the Trump-led Republicans.
Here you had media people, I mean, one after the next, who went even further with it.
This was one of their primary arguments.
That they made over and over.
Here's John Harwood, who spent many years as a CNN correspondent.
It was incredibly obvious while he was there, though he was supposedly a reporter that he was a pure Democratic Party activist.
He was even over the line for CNN. He ended up getting fired.
And ever since, he's just let loose about not even pretending any longer.
And here he is in June of 2024, just a few months ago, just five months ago.
Listen to what he said.
People who insist that Joe Biden really will pardon Hunter, even after Biden specifically ruled it out, are telling on themselves.
They can't imagine someone acting on principle and keeping his word.
So we've been saying, look, when a lot of these Democrats are saying, including Joe Biden, I will never pardon Hunter Biden.
There were a lot of people saying, obviously you're going to pardon your own son, especially if you lose the election.
Or even if you win the election, you don't have to face the American people anymore.
You're never going to let your son go into prison.
Of course you're lying.
Of course you're going to pardon your son.
You've never cared about the rule of law in your entire life.
And so these media people are saying, oh, look, if you're somebody who's that cynical, the only reason you think this is because you yourself are so unprincipled that you must assume that Joe Biden is unprincipled because you're unprincipled, you.
Right?
Any skepticism about Joe Biden is only because you're projecting onto him your dishonesty and your unprincipled perspective on the world.
And that too now bears a community note.
On December 1st, 2024, President Joe Biden announced that he had in fact pardoned his son Hunter.
If you think any of these people have gone back and accounted for what they said, Apologized for those accusations, retracted any of the claims that they made about Joe Biden being the embodiment of all things noble and honest and principled in the world.
You're obviously being very mistaken.
I assume nobody who watches this show actually believes that any of them would ever admit error of any kind.
Our friends at Gravian, which is a great service that provides a collection of all television, cable, increasingly podcast videos.
We use it as an important service for our show.
The person who put it together is named Tom Elliott.
He compiled, using his own service, a supercut of just...
Even though it's nine minutes, I need you to watch this.
I'll stop it.
I'll comment on some of it.
But what I need to convey...
Is number one, how central of a theme this was.
Number two, how far they went with it.
And number three, how just melodramatic and sanctimonious they were about it.
About using this over and over and over to say that, look, you might think that everybody in Washington is kind of willing to break the rules if it benefits them.
We've seen pardon abuses before.
But don't think that because it may be true of Donald Trump, but it's not true of Joe Biden.
And the proof is that he won't even pardon his own son.
Let's watch some of this.
Don't have it on my screen.
One second.
I'm excited for you to see these.
So you're in the little technical issue that's causing a few seconds of delay, I can promise you it'll be worth the wait.
Okay.
Here it is.
Okay, we're going to move on to just one thing before we show you this.
And yes, I am stalling because I need to make sure that we have time to get this up because this is something I really want to show you.
So, while we're waiting to show you this supercut, we can just go to the next one which is Adam Schiff who spoke on...
Alright, for somehow we lost all of the videos for the moment that we had been prepared to...
Okay, the one that I wanted to show you is now in fact ready to go.
So here it is.
I just want you to watch again just to set this up.
This is the media speaking over the course of the last year about how important Joe Biden's refusal to pardon his own son was to understanding what the Democratic Party is and the reason it's so important to keep the Democratic Party in the White House and not let Donald Trump return to power.
Presidential promise to put the law before a family.
I said I abide by the jury decision.
I will do that, and I will not pardon him.
Letting the world know that he will not wipe away the decision of 12 of his son's peers.
Was asked directly, and he has said he wouldn't pardon his son if he gets convicted.
Let's wait and see what happens if he loses.
Yeah, but I mean, but he said it.
He's going to get pardoned by his dad.
There's no question about that.
The president has ruled out pardoning his son.
Major commitment from the president, accepting the outcome of the trial and also pledging not to pardon his son.
The challenge for him is really to continue to live up to his values when it was really personal, and he did that today.
It seems like a pretty normal, straightforward answer, but it takes new weight when we see what Trump is saying about the outcome of his trial.
We're hearing from other Republicans who say they don't accept the jury's verdict here in New York.
The contrast is profound.
To sit there and say, well, I'm not going to intervene in the legal process, and I wouldn't pardon my son.
One side, Democrats and Joe Biden protecting the justice system, and on the other, Republicans and Trump protecting Trump.
A current president of the United States...
Has so much respect for the law that he has said he would not pardon his son.
I mean, what, you know, again, it's all about the contrast.
President Biden saying, I will respect whatever this jury decides versus Donald Trump after he was convicted on 34 counts, saying the entire system is rigged against him.
Their latest attack has been that Joe Biden has politicized and weaponized the DOJ, right?
That was the whole argument around Donald Trump's conviction.
And this week, of course, Hunter Biden was found guilty, and Joe Biden has very clearly said he would not pardon his son, he would not commit his sentence.
How stark is this difference?
I mean, how can Republicans keep making this argument now that Joe Biden has really put it out there?
Where's Hunter?
And he stood there in a courtroom, flanked by his family, and he's accepted his sentence.
He is not pardoning his son, which he could do.
These are federal charges.
He is not doing that.
He is not doing it because he is living what it means to have a rule of law in this country.
If you want to know if he believes it, you can actually see what is happening with his own son.
The President, Anderson, has been really clear that he is going to accept the outcome of the trial no matter what happens.
So Joe Biden's gotten asked about, you know, talking about law and order.
He's gotten asked if he would pardon his son.
He has said no.
On the other side, you've got Donald Trump, who has said that he will pardon the January 6th insurrectionists.
They're not even his sons.
They're just sons of bitches.
Washington said, I am not running again because he understood the self-restraint was absolutely essential to this country.
So you don't have a king.
He did not pardon his son.
He did not order the Department of Justice to say, don't prosecute my son.
So impressive.
Could have ordered the Justice Department to halt the prosecution of Hunter Biden.
So we're going to show you some more, but I just want to stress that those last two clips were Andrew Weissman, who was touted as the big prosecutorial bulldog of the Mueller team, the hardcore prosecutor who was going to use real aggressive tactics the hardcore prosecutor who was going to use real aggressive tactics to get to the bottom of the conspiracy that was going to prove that Trump conspired with the Russians in order to hack into the DNC and Podesta Obviously, that came up completely empty.
And here you see the bulldog, the little guy with the horn-rimmed glasses on MSNBC saying, like, wow, it is really impressive comparing Joe Biden to George Washington, saying George Washington understood that the key to our democracy was self-restraint. saying George Washington understood that the key to our democracy He left office after two terms, and here's what Joe Biden is doing too, self-restraint.
It is incredible.
That he won't even pardon his own son.
Think how impressive that is.
In all of this, here is the contrast between the horror, the anti-democratic horror to Donald Trump and the Republican Party, who the minute they get a verdict they dislike, start accusing the Justice Department of being unfair and politicized and intervening in the outcome,
and Joe Biden, who's so devoted to the rule of law, That he will go to such lengths that almost no other mortal would go to, allowing his only surviving son to go to prison because his devotion to the rule of law is so great.
Imagine going on the air and saying stuff like this over and over and over and over.
Only for four months later, Joe Biden think about with a statement saying, yeah, of course I'm pardoning my own son.
And the reason I'm partying with my own son is because I don't trust the justice system.
The whole case was politicized.
And what's amazing is this pardon power is in Joe Biden's hands.
He's used it very sparingly.
Do you know how many people are in prison?
For crimes far less serious than the ones Hunter Biden was accused of, for far less evidence, who had far less effective counsel, that Joe Biden is allowing to just rot in prison whom he's not pardoning.
He's solely picking out his son to save from the exact kinds of legal consequences that would come crashing down upon anybody else who didn't have the last name of Biden.
Without anyone in the White House or the media caring in the slightest.
But these people just went to bat over and over and just said these things.
The most melodramatic, over-the-top, undignified tributes to Joe Biden's character based on a single thing that he promised to do that every idiot would have known he was never going to keep his word on.
And then he didn't.
And none of them have gone back and said, wow, everything I said about Joe Biden, his sterling character, his commitment to the rule of law, it turned out to be false.
Some Democrats have said, oh, I wish he hadn't done this.
It's bad optics.
It's going to make it more difficult for us to accuse Donald Trump of doing this now, given that Joe Biden himself just did it.
But none of these media people who just spent all of that time, as we showed you, saying any of the things that we showed you saying have gone back and said, well, I guess I have to retract everything I spent the last year saying.
And not just saying in passing, but with so much conviction, so much sanctimony, so much melodrama.
Because it was all based on Joe Biden's pledge to refrain from doing something that just three days ago he did and did in the most aggressive manner possible.
In 2018, Adam Schiff, who was just elected to the California Senate from the House of Representatives, as you may recall, Adam Schiff spent two years outright lying to the American public, saying that he had seen definitive evidence proving Collusion and conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Donald Trump on the one hand and the Kremlin on the other only for Robert Mueller after 18 months of being unleashed to come
and say there was no evidence to establish that conspiracy.
What Adam Schiff was claiming he was worried about in 2018 because he was so certain That Donald Trump and his family, Donald Trump Jr. and other members of the Trump family were going to be frog marched out of the White House by Robert Mueller.
They were certain of that.
John Brennan went on MSNBC and said that would happen.
He was very worried that Donald Trump was going to pardon his own family and himself.
Something Trump never needed to do because Trump was never charged with any crimes, nor was anyone in his family, nor was anyone in the United States for that conspiracy because it was a fake conspiracy theory that the media concocted and gave them polishes for.
But here was Adam Schiff talking about the severe danger of allowing a president to abuse his pardon power to protect his own children and other people in his family.
So the president's pardon of Scooter Libby, Congressman, has inspired you to propose new legislation.
What exactly would it do?
What it would do is say that in the event the president pardons anyone in an investigation in which the president is a witness, a subject, or the target, those investigative files will all be turned over to the Congress.
The Congress ought to know whether the president is using the pardon power to obstruct justice.
The American people have a right to know.
I think it is clearly constitutional.
It doesn't prohibit him from...
So the president thinks it is clearly constitutional.
It doesn't prohibit him from granting a pardon, even a pardon he shouldn't grant.
But it does say that we will be able to at least find out whether the president is using this power to shield himself from liability.
It offers transparency at the very least.
Absolutely.
Thank you, Congressman.
I appreciate your time.
Thanks, Don.
So that was a bill designed to say that if a president pardons his own family members, Even though he has the right to do so because the Constitution provides no limits on the pardon power, it's an unlimited power.
You can't limit the president pardon power.
It's in the Constitution.
There are no limits on it.
Adam Schiff wanted a law saying if a president pardons his own family member, That everything should be sent to the Congress so the Congress can make it very transparent whether the President himself had any possible legal liability that he was shielding himself from in issuing that pardon, which is a perfect explanation, a perfect description of what Joe Biden did here by not only pardoning Hunter Biden on these limited charges,
but also going all the way back to 2014 to ensure that all of that profiteering that he did in Ukraine and tried to do in China in Joe Biden's name could never be the subject of a criminal investigation, but also going all the way back to 2014 to ensure that all of that profiteering Do you think Adam Schiff has gone on any of these cable shows and said, "Hey, remember when I was so angry that a president might use his pardon power to shield his own family member, his own children from criminal liability, that I wanted a law that everything
I still think that, even though it's Joe Biden doing that rather than Donald Trump.
Now, obviously...
The people who go on television and who are paid to defend the Democratic Party, no matter what it does, have to provide some kind of an explanation.
Like, what happened?
Why did Joe Biden and Karine Jean-Pierre and all these other people swear up and down for a year that there was no possibility, more than a year that there was no possibility, there was no circumstance in which Joe Biden would even consider a pardon for Hunter there was no circumstance in which Joe Biden would even consider a pardon for Hunter Biden because he's too reverent of the rule of law
Obviously, the question now, even for cable hosts on these networks who are as devoted to the Democratic Party as the people they invite on their show, even they have to ask, well, how do we explain this?
How do we explain that they did a complete 100% turnaround, not just Bill Biden, but all of us who have been spending a year propagandizing about how this shows how honorable he is, how different he is from Donald Trump.
How do we explain this?
So they sent this woman who's a Democratic strategist named Leah McGowan, who is not exactly a model of stability or sobriety, onto CNN today.
And to CNN's credit, they now have an actual conservative, an actual pro-Trump defender, Scott Jennings, who does quite a good job in defending what half the country thinks.
And he's on there quite often, and he was on there today.
And poor Liam McGowan, whoever that is, had the responsibility to try and come up with some sort of an explanation that justifies why Joe Biden did exactly that, which he and everybody else spent a year swearing up and down he would never do.
And here's what she came up with.
It's a lie, because honestly, what the other side has been saying for years, what you guys ran on for president, was multiple lies.
I mean, if Eric Holder said it right, I think, he said, if Hunter's name was Joe Smith, this case would probably have never even gone to trial, right?
That it was always a political witch hunt, and it was always...
But wasn't to Scott's point, I mean...
Wasn't it a lie?
I mean, you can defend it, but wasn't it a lie that he was not going to pardon him?
No, I believe the circumstances have changed.
I think that we now have a president coming into office who's talking about firing squads, who's talking about running people around the country and making sure that everyone who's his enemy is going to be punished.
And Hunter Biden lied about his drug use on a government forum when he was buying a gun.
And he failed to file and pay taxes when he was a drug addict.
He paid back those taxes with interest.
Donald Trump himself was indicted for 17 counts of criminal tax fraud, more than Hunter.
And he's going to be the president of the United States.
11 years.
Blanket.
You're missing a few things here.
11 years.
Okay.
I mean, in her defense, there's really nothing else she could say.
First of all, remember the whole thing with the firing squad?
Oh, you have a president running around threatening to murder his political...
Remember when...
Donald Trump back in October or September was criticizing Liz Cheney, who seemed to be Kamala Harris' running mate more so than Tim Walz.
One of the brilliant things that the Democratic Party did, decided to feature Liz Cheney as though that was going to convince Americans that they were the party of change.
And that the Cheney family was going to come and care about the working class.
Anyway, when Kamala Harris was carrying around Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney everywhere, and Dick Cheney, who also endorsed Kamala, and she was touting that.
Donald Trump said Liz Cheney is the kind of horrible warmonger and neocon who loves to sit in Washington and send other people to war.
One day I would like to see Liz Cheney herself go to war and see what it's like to have all those guns pointed at you instead of the people you're sending to war.
Have those guns pointed directly at your face and have you being shot at And then I'd like to see her come back and see whether that changes her mind about all these wars she loves to go and fight.
An argument that liberals have been making for as long as I've been writing about politics.
The standard chicken-hawk argument that it's very easy to send people to war like David Frum does or Bill Kristol does or Dick Cheney did as long as you're not the one fighting.
But if you had to actually go and fight those wars you're sending other people to and you were the one being shot at, it would probably change your mind.
About the gories of all these wars.
That's the argument that Donald Trump made about Liz Cheney.
A totally common, familiar argument.
And the media decided to spend two days pretending that Donald Trump had threatened Liz Cheney with a firing squad.
Remember that?
That was one of the more pathetic things that they had done.
And this person was referring to that.
She's like, oh, what changed is that now we have a president who's threatening his political enemies with firing squads, referring to that critique of Liz Cheney's warmongering.
What they're basically saying is, look, when we were saying for the last year that Joe Biden would under no circumstances pardon Hunter Biden, We had no idea that Donald Trump was going to get into office and start appointing people like Kash Patel to the FBI director and other people who intended to abuse the justice system against his political enemies.
That's what changed.
Those circumstances changed.
That's why Joe Biden decided to do what he had promised not to do.
Do you see how stupid they think everybody is?
The Democrats have been spending two straight years Equating Donald Trump with Adolf Hitler, one of their main arguments has been for two years that if Donald Trump wins, he's going to get into office and abuse the FBI and abuse the Justice Department to persecute his political enemies.
He's going to prosecute his political enemies.
They've been accusing him of that since 2016 when he used to chant, lock her up, about Hillary Clinton.
And now they're going to pretend that it's only within the last four days that they realize that there's a chance that Donald Trump might get into office and exploit the Justice Department to investigate his political enemies like Hunter Biden.
And that's what changed.
This is the first time Democrats realized that that would happen, which is why they suddenly realized that, oh, Hunter Biden actually does need a pardon from Joe Biden.
Now, as I said, As idiotic as that is, as transparently moronic as it is, I can't really criticize someone sent out to defend it because I can't think of anything else better to say.
But this is what's so farcical about all of this, and this is why I wanted to spend as much time as we have on this Hunter Biden pardon, because this is what Democratic Party rhetoric has been about for so long.
It's been this oozing sanctimony About how the Democratic Party and all of their pre-Trump Republican allies, whatever disagreements they might have had, are all patriots who believe in the rule of law as a way of trying to single out Donald Trump as some sort of grave and existential unique threat to the rule of law and American democracy.
And their main example to demonstrate this Was that Joe Biden won't even pardon his own son, only for him to have turned around so predictably and have done exactly that.
Now, I have to say, one of the things that has genuinely offended me, genuinely sickened me, genuinely enraged me, ever since this whole issue with Hunter Biden arose and the possibility that he might be prosecuted, And it is true Hunter Biden has endured serious drug abuse.
And I personally think drug abuse is a disease.
I don't think it should be criminalized.
I think people who are drug addicts ought to be offered help and not punishment.
And I think all that is a very...
True narrative that I've been talking about for many, many years, well before anything having to do with Hunter Biden and Joe Biden.
In fact, I did the first ever study back in 2008 at the beginning of my journalism career when I was sent to Portugal by the Cato Institute to study the effects of decriminalization of all drugs that Portugal alone had adopted and wrote a paper for the Cato Institute on the successes of that policy.
So it's something I believed in for a long time.
And when The issue of Hunter Biden's criminality emerged.
All of these newspaper columnists were like, oh, Joe Biden is such a decent human being.
He's standing by his son as he battles drug addiction because he's so empathetic.
This is something that so many American families go through and Joe Biden is going through it.
He's being a loving, considerate father.
And I would have been able to accept that, I guess.
Had it not been for the fact that Joe Biden had spent a huge chunk of his career being one of the leading warriors on drugs in the United States, meaning spending the 80s and 90s and into the 2000s, arguing the exact opposite of what I just advocated.
Joe Biden was arguing that drug addicts should not be treated as people with health problems.
They should be treated as criminals.
I don't mean drug traffickers.
I don't mean people who sell large quantities of drugs.
I'm talking about drug users, drug addicts, people who get addicted to drugs, to get addicted to cocaine, to crack cocaine, to other kinds of drugs.
Whether you take those people because they have drugs on them or are using drugs and you put them to the criminal justice system and send them to prison as opposed to directing them into drug treatment programs.
Joe Biden was one of the most important, if not the most influential advocates, in saying no, drug addicts should not be given any consideration whatsoever.
They need to go to prison, and they need to go to prison for a long, long time.
And as some of you might remember, in the 80s and the 90s, that was when there was an explosion of crack cocaine addiction, particularly in poor neighborhoods, in black neighborhoods, and neighborhoods of color.
A lot of wealthy white kids in wealthy suburbs were using cocaine, whereas crack cocaine was largely an inner-city drug for reasons that probably we can devote a whole show to.
And a lot of people in Washington, led by Joe Biden, wanted particularly harsh punishments, not for the white kids using cocaine or the people on Wall Street using cocaine, but the poor and the black people who got addicted to crack cocaine in the inner cities.
That's what he led the way in demanding.
That was the drug to which his own son, Hunter, ended up being addicted to as well.
And here's the sort of thing that Joe Biden boasted about aggressively.
He would actually accuse Republicans of not being harsh enough in punishing and sending to prison for a long enough time drug users.
Here's the sort of thing that Joe Biden was saying back in 1991. We covered this at the time this first emerged when we were told that Joe Biden is such a loving, compassionate father.
We should applaud him for protecting his son Hunter because of the compassion he's showing for drug addiction, which again, I would have been empathetic to had it not been for the fact that Joe Biden is responsible for sending thousands, if not tens of thousands of I would have been empathetic to had it not been for the fact that Joe Biden is responsible for sending thousands, if not tens of thousands of In fact, Hunter Biden did a lot worse
He didn't just use crack cocaine addictively the way a lot of people who were sent to prison by Joe Biden's policies for a long time did, but he did these other crimes as well from which he's now being protected.
Here's the sort of thing that Joe Biden was saying on the Senate floor as we covered when this first arose in June of last year.
What makes this, just this part of the story so repulsive to me Is that Joe Biden has long been one of the nation's hardest-score warriors on criminalizing addicts and punishing drug users.
He's the architect of the prison state.
Throughout the 80s and 90s, he prided himself on getting to the right of Republicans on questions of criminal law and drug use.
He was adamant that drug users and drug addicts be sent to prison for many years, saying we're not doing enough to send addicts to prison.
So when it came to other people's families and their struggles with addiction and their kids' struggles with addiction, Biden had no compassion at all.
He wanted to send these people to prison for a long time.
Here's Joe Biden in 1991 on the floor of the Senate giving a speech on exactly this question.
Let's look at the facts.
Since 1986, Congress has passed over 230 new or expanded penalties for drug and criminal offenses in this United States.
230 new penalties.
And these penalties range from an automatic five years in jail for any person caught With a rock of crack cocaine, a piece of crack cocaine as small as a quarter.
I don't have a quarter with me, but if you visualize what one looks like, yeah, I do have a quarter.
If you have a piece of crack cocaine no bigger than this quarter that I'm holding to my hand, one quarter of one dollar, We passed a law through the leadership of Senator Thurman and myself and others, a law that says, if you're caught with that, you go to jail for five years.
You get no probation.
You get nothing other than five years in jail.
Judge doesn't have a choice.
The fact of the matter is...
He's boasting of that.
I want you to think about that for a second.
If you have...
If someone gets caught under a law that he and Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, the longtime segregationist with whom Joe Biden had a very good relationship in the Senate, that's something Kamala Harris pointed out in their debate to accuse Joe Biden of being a racist before he chose her as his vice president...
Under that law that Joe Biden was boasting about, if you have a piece of crack cocaine the size of a quarter, obviously purely for personal use, no possibility for just intent to distribute or selling, because so many people were addicts.
And crack addiction was one of the worst drug addictions seen in the history of narcotics.
It was extremely difficult.
It is still extremely difficult.
To break a crack addiction, even if you have access to the best rehab facilities and psychiatrists and medications, let alone if you are very poor and living in communities that are deprived, as is the case for most crack addicts.
Joe Biden was so proud of the fact that he had sent so many people like that who did nothing other than use crack cocaine because they were addicts.
They didn't have to steal drugs In order to buy it, they didn't have to do anything other than possess a tiny amount of crack cocaine.
We've seen videos of Hunter Biden with piles of crack cocaine.
Imagine being the parent of one of the many, many tens of thousands of people Largely black and poor that Joe Biden succeeded in sending to prison, as he said, for a minimum of five years with no judicial discretion, no parole, no possibility of early release for good behavior.
You go to prison for five years.
Imagine what that does to somebody's life.
Simply by virtue of having been a drug addict, not having committed any other crime, not having harmed anybody else.
This was Joe Biden's philosophy.
It was his ideology.
It was his career.
It was the thing on which he built his presidential aspirations.
That's why he was doing it.
He sent enormous numbers of people to prison for doing far less than his own son did.
And then never apologized for it, never rescinded his views on that.
And then suddenly, when it's his own son...
With every conceivable privilege in the world, a term that I try and avoid because of how overused it is, but if it applies to anybody, it applies to somebody whose father is the President of the United States.
When he gets caught using massive amounts of crack cocaine on video, when he gets caught with all kinds of related crimes that often occur from that, things like failing to pay your taxes, lying on gun forms, Who knows however many other crimes?
Instead of saying, oh, I'm going to ensure that the criminal justice system treats my son exactly like I treated all of these other people who had nothing, no resources, instead says, I'm going to pardon my son and make sure he never sees a minute in prison.
In fact, doesn't even have a criminal record.
That's what a pardon does.
It erases the criminal record.
It overturns the conviction.
After spending a full year swearing up and down that under no circumstances would he do so, which became the basis for all these liberal propagandists to herald him as a great person to draw a contrast between him and Donald Trump.
That's why I say there's few incidents that I think reveals just the utter depravity, the emptiness, the vacuity of all of this liberal discourse.
Finally, this has all come crashing down on their heads so deservedly.
And it's so good to watch because of how deserved it is.
They've lived in this fantasy world where they've spoken only to one another, for one another.
They've convinced each other of things that have no bearing, no relationship to reality.
They've built up these insane narratives.
Nancy Pelosi said six months ago that Joe Biden should be put on Mount Rushmore.
They have convinced American liberals to revere the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, the Department of Justice, the entire U.S. security state.
There was a new poll out today, in fact, that said that the FBI, that the faith that Americans have in the FBI have dropped to a new all-time low, 41%.
And it's only that high because so many Democrats and liberals have enormous faith in these institutions.
Because they've been fed this mythology By these media liars for so many years that these sacred institutions do no wrong, that they have to be preserved and protected and not reformed.
And it's why you're seeing now the people who Donald Trump is appointing who have the greatest intention of radically reforming these institutions, those are the ones being most attacked.
Because what Washington is about, more than anything else, is preserving the status quo in Washington because the people who are succeeding and thriving want stability, want anything but any kind of radical transformation.
But these people in the media have lost every ounce of credibility.
They've lost their audience.
They've lost their relevance.
And I really believe at some point they're even losing faith in themselves.
They cannot look themselves in the mirror any longer.
I mean, how can you watch yourself saying all these things, convincing people of it, in the most high-minded and sanctimonious ways, only to watch Joe Biden turn around and just screw you so completely, and you don't even have the integrity to go on air and say that?
Because you're so petrified that you're going to offend the tiny little bit of audience that you have left.
These people are completely soulless.
And every year that they've stayed in these insulated worlds where they build these narratives that have no bearing on the entire rest of the country, they get more and more detached, more and more desperate, more and more careerist, more and more willing and eager to say and do anything to cling to the careerist benefits that's the only source of their self-esteem and all of that is slipping out of their hands.
And they're becoming increasingly desperate.
You can smell it.
You can see it.
It's palpable.
The 2024 election where Donald Trump won, where every single place in the United States moved away from the Democratic Party toward the Republican Party, where more harmfully than ever, Racial minority groups that Democratic Party operatives and the liberal media thought they've owned forever moved away from the Democratic Party with the exception of black women who largely stayed loyal to Kamala Harris,
but pretty much every other minority group moved away.
This is all the unraveling of this rotted, empty liberal establishment that has built an edifice based on a fantasy world.
And I... We'll admit, honestly, that I enjoy watching it all come crashing down on them because I think it's so deserved, but I also think it's very healthy because this kind of just insanity that they've been injecting into the discourse going all the way back to Russiagate and then building and descending from that point forward for all of these years has been so incredibly toxic and so incredibly destructive.
And to watch Joe Biden, in a sense, put the final nail in their coffin of credibility and relevance and influence has been pretty joyous to watch.
