You know, in the very beginning, the whole thing, Christmas packages, you know, they didn't happen.
You know, I'm not talking about just back in Jesus' time.
You know, it's not like they showed up and went, hey, we got you this Christmas present because you're the Christ.
It didn't happen that way, obviously.
But in the early days of, you know, of Christmas, we didn't do things like that.
We didn't give packages or anything else.
What we would originally would give, would give bread, you know, bread for the hungry, alms for the poor, you know, offerings in, you know, you know, in the memory of the Magi or whatever.
That's what we would do.
And gifts were acts of worship, not transactions.
And we were to imitate heaven, not to impress, you know, some neighbor.
Then history, as it always does, you know, kind of takes things and complicates the purity of the thing.
You know what I'm saying?
So the Middle Ages come around and the European communities begin, you know, start to give small tokens.
They start giving apples and coins and wax candles and especially on St. Nicholas Day.
And, you know, I'm sure back then everybody's, I can't believe you're buying an apple.
You're commercializing this.
And what they were trying to do was not to outdo one another.
He gave, did you see that?
He gave his wife two apples.
But it was the idea to teach children that generosity was a virtue.
And the gesture was still really small.
And the idea was to enlarge the heart.
And then came the Victorian age, kind of the global pivot point, you know.
And everybody, because everybody idolized Dickens and Christmas Carol.
Christmas Carol by Dickens really revived the holiday spirit, but it also introduced something new, the romance of the Christmas marketplace.
Because we suddenly had industrialization and now we could make toys cheaper and factories made novelty easy.
And we had a middle class that had some disposable income for the very first time.
And then suddenly, quietly, slowly, gift-giving expanded.
And the boxes grew larger and larger.
Not the heart, but the boxes did.
And by the late 1800s, early 20th century, you know, the stores, especially the new department store, discovered what the church once knew is that Christmas makes people more generous.
And so, you know, it also makes people more vulnerable, I guess.
And so the advertisements wrap themselves in holiness and Santa was drafted into service.
You know, not a lot of people know.
I have this little teeny statue of Santa that I got when I was in Sweden, where was I?
And at the church of St. Nicholas, and it's this little statue of Santa, and he's standing by a pair of boots, and he's the size of the boots.
Because originally, he wasn't like what we think of now.
He was like this little elf kind of thing.
It was Thomas Nast who, you know, did the whole, you know, 'twas the night before Christmas that changed the whole look of Santa.
And then, of course, Coca-Cola got involved.
And once Coca-Cola got involved, well, then everything, you know, quickly, quickly changed.
And now three gifts of the Magi has become 30, yada, yada, yada.
And then we started advertising everything.
And here we are.
Here we are now to Christmas, which, I don't know, starts, I don't even know when did you start to see Christmas stuff?
I first saw it before October, before Halloween was done.
That's when I first saw Christmas stuff up, right?
Before Halloween.
And we have turned this thing into, I don't know, a fiscal quarter.
That's all it is now, is a fiscal quarter.
And as we're getting ready for Christmas and we have, you know, so many shopping days left, what the 20th century has done to Christmas has left us feeling, I don't know, emptier, lonelier, more frantic.
I mean, we have expanded the spectacle, but not the soul.
And today we live in a world where everything can be shipped to you in your doorstep in 24 hours.
And we have a chance to reclaim it, but it's a short chance to reclaim it, I think.
How do we reclaim what we've nearly lost?
May I suggest we go back to the beginning, back to the stable, back to the stunned young mother.
I'm writing some stuff for Christmas right now, and I was thinking about Mary this weekend.
How stunned, you know, she had to be.
I'm trying to look, I don't want to make light of it, but I mean, she had to be like, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, hold it.
What?
She had to be that way.
I mean, she was a teenager.
She had to be just like, wait, hold it just a second.
And then what she must have been thinking about, how am I going to tell Joseph?
I mean, you're coming back to tell him, right?
Because he's not going to believe me.
You're telling him, right?
And how she must have felt when she gave birth in a stable.
And the frightened shepherds.
And later the Magi come.
You know, that first Christmas was not wrapped.
It was not advertised.
It was given to a world that really honestly did absolutely nothing to deserve it.
And I guess we give our gifts with that.
We receive them.
I did nothing to really deserve this.
But maybe this year, instead of what should I buy, we begin asking, what should I give?
Not the biggest box, but the truest offering.
What should I give?
A handwritten note of gratitude.
Something that really comes from you.
An apology long overdue.
A moment of peace with a family that has been worn thin.
A meal for somebody who has no table.
A reminder, spoken out loud, that hope is still alive.

so at the uh reagan national defense forum over the weekend the chairman of the joint chiefs uh general dan kane raisin kane um hints at a possible conflict in our own neighborhood And everyone is freaking out.

If you look back over the arc of our deployment history over the last few years, we haven't had a lot of American combat power in our own neighborhood.
I think that's, I suspect that's probably going to change.
We'll see what we're ordered to do.
And of course, we follow that guidance.
But we're definitely spending some time there now.

He means war.
And maybe in San Francisco.
Let me, can I just go through and give you the meaning of the national security strategy that just came out from the president?
And everyone is freaking out about it.
And I think the president deserves a round of applause.
The reason why everybody hates it is it is the exact opposite of what they've told us for 100 years we should be doing.
And for 100 years, you've seen what we've done and you've seen where it's gotten us.
Nowhere, quickly.
America is standing in this doorway right now.
And behind us is the chaos that we've just lived through.
Weakness, drift, bipartisan, you know, foreign policy class that somehow has managed to squander the greatest advantage any nation has ever had.
And just ahead, at least according to the National Security Strategy, is a course correction so sweeping that honestly it reads like a rediscovery of the American civilization itself.
Because this is what this document is.
It's not just a list of foreign policy goals.
It is a declaration of what America actually is and what it must never allow itself to become ever again.
For the first time in decades, the strategy admits the obvious.
Okay.
We lost our way after the Cold War.
Yeah.
Yeah, we did.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We tried to run the world while hollowing out the nation that was supposed to do the running.
We were hollowing ourselves out.
We outsourced our factories.
We outsourced our borders, our sovereignty, and even, God help us, our sense of purpose.
We have no purpose.
We treated global institutions as if they outranked the Constitution, and they don't.
We protected everybody else's borders, except we let ours collapse.
We defended abstract world orders while neglecting the American worker who actually paid for everything.
And this new strategy is outlined, I mean, it just says what you've been saying for a long, long time.
Enough, enough.
I've had enough.
And it lays out what Americans and America should want.
And it starts with something, you know, really revolutionary in its simplicity.
It says we need a safe, sovereign republic that protects its people, strong families, strong industry, strong borders, strong energy, and a renewed culture that knows its own story and isn't ashamed to tell it.
What is possibly wrong with all of that?

That's why everybody's freaking out because they don't want any of these things.
None of the elites want those things.
A sovereign republic?
No, no, no.
He's laying out we want the world's strongest military, but also the world's strongest economy and the world's strongest spirit.
And without that, this policy says nothing else holds.
And that's true.
And you know it's true.
It says the era of mass migration is over, not slowing it, not managing it, but ending it.
We know that's true.
It says the government's job is to protect God-given rights.
Okay, where do you get that idea?
I don't know.
The Declaration of Independence.
Why is that controversial?
It's not to manipulate elections.
It's not to police speech.
It's not to hide behind bureaucratic language while crushing dissent.
All of that is found in the Bill of Rights.
It's not controversial.
It demands allies actually act like allies and pay their fair share.
Controversial?
Doesn't seem like it.
It promises reindustrialization.
Did we learn anything from COVID?
Is it a bad idea to have everybody else make our stuff and then we wait for boats?
Energy dominance.
A national defense industrial base that's built for the world we actually live in, not the world our think tanks wish existed.
And then it turns outward.
Then it begins to look outward to Europe and the rest of the world because the rest of the world is shifting under our feet right now and nobody's willing to say it.
In the Western hemisphere, we should return to something that we should have never abandoned in the first place.
And that's what Raisin Kane was just talking about, the Monroe Doctrine.
Call it the Trump corollary.
But the principle is timeless.
This hemisphere is ours to secure.
And hostile powers will no longer get a free pass to set up shop in our backyard.
How is that controversial?
Cartels, it outlines, will become a national security target.
Manufacturing comes home.
Partnership replaces dependency.
Then it talks about Asia.
And the message is really clear.
We'll compete with China economically, technologically, and militarily.
And we'll do it from a position of strength, not by pretending that Beijing is suddenly going to go, you know what?
We're just giant friendly teddy bear.

We're going to do it by accepting the reality and prepare accordingly.
But we'll still work with you.
Just don't become an enemy of ours and we won't become an enemy of yours.
That means that we have to rebuild industry.
It means we have to secure the minerals.
We have to dominate the technologies of the future.
It means that we ensure that no single power controls the Indo-Pacific waterways that keep the global economy alive.
Hello, China, Taiwan, Japan.
Then it gets to Europe, which, you know, of course, we have colonial eyes on.
Oh, my gosh.
All this document says is what European leaders won't even dare whisper.
Europe is dying.
The entire continent is dying.
Not just economically, but as a civilization, the Western civilization is dying.
Declining birth rates, uncontrolled migration, censorship, loss of identity, regulatory suffocation.
We would like Europe to be strong again.
Europe to be Europe again, stable, sovereign, confident.
Peace in Ukraine, stability with Russia, revival at home.
That's what America would like because it would be good for us, but it would also be good for Europe.
Because if Europe collapses into chaos, the entire Western world will pay the price and it will be a very heavy price.
But they don't like that.
Oh, no, you can't say that.
Oh, Europe is pissed at us for saying that.
Gang, we all know.
Look at Europe.
They're dying.
They're dying.
It won't be long.
And if they don't change their ways and they do fall, this document also says something else.
We're not going to honor NATO for any country that falls.
You become a Muslim country.
You're not a NATO country.
You fall and you're some other country.
You're not a NATO country.
We're not defending you.
Now, in the Middle East, this document says the forever wars is over.
We declare them over.
How is that not a good thing that we should all be celebrating?
And not because the region suddenly became peaceful, but because America is finally strong enough strategically, diplomatically, militarily to shift from a constant crisis management to long-term stabilization.
Iran has been weakened.
Israel has been backed.
The Abram Accords, the Abraham Accords are expanding.
Energy dominance has returned to the U.S. What does that do?
Well, that reduces the old chains that kept us entangled in every sand dune from Syria to Yemen.
We're out.
Finally, Africa.
Oh my gosh, what we have done to Africa with our State Department and USAID, all we do is export ideology instead of opportunity.
He says, Trump says in this national security document, that's over.
We're flipping the strategy.
Trade, minerals, energy, peace deals.
No more lectures, no more nation building, no more endless aid with no accountability.
Does any of this sound scary to you?

It's saying everything that seems common sense to me.

I read these freakouts and I honestly, I think, my gosh, am I living in a, I'm living in some weird parallel world where I read all of these newspapers and magazines and everything else with their commentary today about the national security and they're all freaking out.
Saying this is the worst thing he could do.
He's going to tear the whole country and the whole nation and the whole world apart.
No, he's just stating what people feel and not just Americans.
Go talk to the people in Europe.
Ask them, take this document and make it about England and see if all the people in England don't feel exactly the same way.
And if you put a name attached to it, it wouldn't get that person elected.
It would.
It would.
Because everybody's feeling the same way about their own country.
I don't have a problem with the rest of the world, but it's time for us to concentrate on us.
It's time to concentrate on saying, you know what, there's something special about us.
England can say that.
They brought us the Magna Carta.
They are now torching the Magna Carta.

The things that make France, France, I don't know, the whining and everything else.
I mean, that is unique to France.
Italy, Germany.
It's unique to them.
I want them to be those guys.
I don't want them to be another version of us.

But I don't want anything to do with whatever they do, they do.
Same thing with Israel and Saudi Arabia.

We're going to do us.
When we can get together, we will.

Now, the question is, do we want it?
And will the people actually back it?
Because strategy on paper, that's only words.
Until a nation finds the courage to believe in itself again and saying, that's what we must do.

And hopefully Elon will win on this because there's some other things going on.
Starmer is not only arresting people for freedom of speech violations, but also now talking about getting rid of trial by jury.
Does he know what the Magna Carta is?

Let's get back to the table.
So let me just start here because there is another story that is out in our newsletter today that talks about how people of college age are freaking out.
After Charlie Kirk's death, they don't want anything controversial on campus.
I mean, that's the reason why colleges and universities had protection of free speech in the first place was to be controversial, to be able to say the things that nobody wants you to say.
And it's really important.
But let me first remind people of what the Magna Carta is.
It's 1215.
The Magna Carta is Latin for the Great Charter.
And this wasn't some magnanimous gift from the king.
The king, King John of England, he was losing a battle.
France was just cleaning England's clock.
The barons and all the lords and the ladies and everybody was like, you know, this king sucks a lot.
King sucks a lot.
And we got to stop him because he's destroying everything.
And he had lost most of the land to France.
And then he started just imposing huge taxes on everybody.
And because nobody in the lower class had any vote, this all happened with the lords and the ladies.
And they were like, enough, You're abusing your royal power.
Well, nobody had ever said that before.
That just didn't happen.
What do you mean?
He has a divine right.
He's the king.
But in England, they said, no, you still have to be moral.
You have certain laws and you can't just do these things.
And so what they did is they got him to agree to the great charter, the Magna Carta.
And it placed the king under the law.
Before that, the king was the law.
So now king is under the law.
It created the principle of due process.
Never before did we have that.
You can't be imprisoned, punishment, or stripped of property except by the lawful judgment of your peers or the law of the land.
So this creates jury trials.
It creates habeas corpus, protection from arbitrary arrest, all of these things.
The government now has to justify itself in a court of law.
That's revolutionary, okay?
It also limited taxation without consent, which we interpreted later as no taxation without representation.
Rule of law, jury trials, rights of the accused, limits on government, protection of property, accountability of leaders.
All of that comes from the Magna Carta.
Okay.
That gave birth, 500 years later, to us and our ideas.
Now, England, the birthplace of the Magna Carta, is now thinking about getting rid of jury trials and arresting more than 12,000 people every year for what they call speech crimes.
12,000.
Now, I want you to think about that.
In Russia, in the same year this stat came out, the latest year that we have, 2023, in 2023, Russia arrested 4,000 people for speech crimes against the Russian military for Ukraine.
4,000 in Russia, 12,000 in England.
The number I saw, and we don't have all the numbers, but the number I saw that were arrested for speech crimes in China was 120.
Okay?
Not for violence, not for theft, not for treason.
12,000 in England for words.
Okay.
Now, while that's going on, now the prime minister is floating the idea of eliminating, if not most, many jury trials.
It'll only be for murder, manslaughter, oh, and something else like that.
Okay.
So in other words, if you're like, I believe you should be able to read the Bible in your own language in your own home, Tinsdale, you don't get any help.
You don't get a jury trial.
You get the court.
You get the king trying you, not a jury of your peers.
This goes against the Magna Carta, the lawful judgment of your peers.
That is the safeguard that stands between you and an out-of-control state.
This is the first and ancient firewall against tyranny.
It is what makes England England.
And if England of all places tosses that aside, what does the word free mean anymore?
Okay.
What does it mean?
You can't speak and you have no jury trial of your peers?
Wait, what?
First of all, understand this.
A nation that polices speech is not free.
A nation that dissolves juries is not just unfree.
It's prepping for something worse.
Because the entire architecture of the Western world, the liberty that we have, rests on a single radical belief.
The truth does not need a king.
The truth shall set you free.
Who is it?
Not what.
Who is the truth?
Okay?
No king but Christ, because Christ is the truth.
That's the Western world.
A person's conscience does not need a permit.
Speech does not need a bureaucrat's approval before it leaves your lips.
That's the West.
That's what built the world, what took it from darkness to today.
Freedom is not granted by the state.
Freedom pre-exists government.
Government's only legitimate job is to protect it.
Now, here's a dark little secret that every single tyrant and every politician knows today.
If you control speech, you control thought.
If you control thought, you control people.
If you control people, you don't ever have to worry about controlling the government because no one will ever challenge you again.
This is why it is so essential for any side to go, you can't talk to them, don't talk to them, don't listen to them, don't question, you can't hear that.
No, they can say whatever they want, but I have a right to refute it.
That's why free speech has to be absolute, not mostly free.
Not free unless it makes, you know, Billy over there crying uncomfortable.
No, sorry, Billy, you don't like it.
Refute it.
Freedom that depends on somebody else's free feelings is not freedom.
Freedom that requires government approval is not freedom.
Freedom that can be revoked because a bureaucrat doesn't like your tone is not freedom.
Once speech becomes conditional, everything becomes conditional.
Your rights, your property, your conscience, your place in society, because you only live by permission, never by principle.
We live by principles, not people.
Who is actually free?
Who is actually free?
The England that once declared the king himself to be subject to law?
Or the England that now arrests a man because he's posted the wrong meme?
12,000 people.
Can't find one in 2023 that was arrested for that in America.
Now what?
The England that gave us John Locke?
The philosopher of natural rights?
Is that person free?
Or the England that now warns citizens that context doesn't matter if their words cause someone, anyone, emotional harm?
Britain is about loss, but this is not just a British problem.
This is the canary in the coal mine for the entire West because these are the people that came up with it.
When the mother country forgets its own legacy, jury trials and freedom of speech, when the land that once stared down monarchs now cowers before hashtags and activists and speech tribunals, then somewhere deep inside the Western soul, a light is flickering.
We must remember here before that same darkness reaches our source because it's already coming on to our beaches.
It's already there.
There is no such thing as partial liberty.
Freedom of speech is the First Amendment for a reason.
It is the guardrail for every other right.
If you lose the First Amendment, you've lost freedom.
And if you lose the Second Amendment, you've lost the ability to defend that first freedom.
It's number one for a reason.
You must be allowed to speak, to gather, to have a free press, to question your government.
You must have those abilities.
You must be able to say, especially about government, the worst things about your government and question them and demand answers to petition them.
That's all in the First Amendment.
It is the pressure valve that prevents societies from blowing itself up.
The more we contain speech, the more we say don't talk about, don't talk about, don't talk about, can't say that, can't say that, can't say that, the more the pressure builds up, the more likely it is we blow ourselves up.
It's the mechanism where the powerless can speak to the powerful.
It's the shield that protects dissenters, unpopular thinkers, prophets, reformers, and yes, even the offensive.
Look, there's, you know, there are quote-unquote historians now who are giving you all kinds of bullcrap about Hitler and everything else.
None of that's true.
I don't want to silence them.
They have a right to say it.
I have a right to say you're wrong and show you the evidence and what makes them wrong.
That's the way it works.
England is about to forget all of this.
They are truly the birthplace of these kinds of ideas.
And those ideas led to our idea of real freedom, no king.
If they forget this, we cannot, we cannot, because there won't be anywhere else in the world to go.
The lesson of history, the lesson that history whispers quietly at first, then louder, and then finally, and we're about at this point with a scream, is that when a state decides which words are allowed, it will eventually decide which thoughts are allowed, which beliefs are allowed, which citizens are allowed.
In the end, in the end, the prisons don't need bars.
The cell will be in your own mind.
Do you understand that, America?
Do your kids understand that?
We don't even know what it means to be free.
I thought this weekend a lot about, and the truth shall set you free.
Thought about a lot.
In fact, maybe I'll talk to you about it here in a minute or so.
Because I don't think people understand what it means to be free.
We think everybody in the world is free.
They're not.
And you're about to really find that out.
You want to be free or do you want to be safe?
Because you cannot have both.
When safety is defined by those who fear your liberty, it's over.
We used to be people who would explore.
We were people that crossed the oceans when everyone said we couldn't.
We went to space when everyone said it's impossible.
We crossed mountains that no one had ever crossed.
We forged a nation of really different people and lived side by side for so long.
Yes, with bloodshed from time to time, but generally in ways nobody had ever done before.
Freedom.
Freedom is grand, but it's really dangerous.
It's messy.

Freedom offends you a lot.
Get over it.
Real freedom, real freedom is the only thing that has ever allowed the human spirit to rise above a king, above a tyrant, above the mob, above the bureaucrats.
Real freedom that belongs to you, given to you by God.
And that's what they're about to lose in England, the Magna Carta, the simple idea, no man, not even a king, no man is above the law.
Do we have that here?
Do you think no man is above the law?
Or do you think there is a class up in the political range somewhere that if you're on the right side, don't worry about jail?
That's what the Magna Carta tried to stop.
That's what we've forgotten even.
And they're about to get rid of it entirely.
The modern West is drifting into far more sinister creed.
No man is above offense.
And that is how civilizations fall.

So yesterday I was at church and somebody said something along the truth which I set you free.
And I thought, I don't even know if people know what the truth is anymore.
You know, the truth will set you free.
I mean, it's been reduced to a bumper sticker.
You know, a slogan that, you know, we stitch onto pillows or hang on our walls with a little kitty cat.
Hang in there.
Truth will set you free.

Jesus spoke those words the first time.
And he was issuing a warning.
He wasn't comforting.
He was confronting people.
He spoke those words to people who believed, absolutely believed that they were already free.
Let me ask you this.
Are you free?
Most Americans, most people in the West will say, yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Children of Abraham, keepers of tradition, moral guardians of our age.
You're not free.
You're not free.
Because when Jesus was talking to those moral guardians of his age, he was saying it to them.
You're not free.
You're slaves and you don't even know it.
This is the tragedy of the human condition.
Once you lose the narrative of where these things came from, you no longer understand what the words even mean.
Okay?
Our chains are not chains that rattle.
Okay.
It's not the same kind of chain, but it is a chain in every way there is a chain.
Ours are quiet.
They're internal.
They're self-forged, most of them.
But because they're invisible, we treat the bondage that we're in like normal life.
Christ, when he said those words, he names that bondage plainly.
So I just want you to listen to this because I just want you to hear, we're all struggling.

I don't know.
I don't know.
I ask that question all the time.
How do I know what's true and what's not?
I don't know, but it is my job to find it.
And sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't, but every day I struggle with it.
But that's not the truth.
The truth shall set you free.
It's not politics.
It's not Rome.
It's not Washington.
It's not your circumstance.
It's thin.
The unyielding gravitational pull inside of all of our hearts that just bend us away from what's true, what's good, what's holy, what's sacred.
When Jesus was saying this, he named the jailer lies.
Okay, lies about what?
Lies about who we are.
Who are you?
Once you answer that, and maybe this comes before answering that, why are you here?
Who sent you?
What difference does your life make?
Do you have a soul?
Who are you?
Lies to you every day about what matters most.
Lies about what or who will save us.
Whole civilizations are built, ours included, are built on lies because lies are comforting.
Rome, remember, promised peace.
They were crucifying people by the thousands, and yet they were the ones saying peace.
The Enlightenment promised perfect human reason.
You can't have perfect human reason and ignore the broken human heart.
You can't.
Our hearts are all broken.
We don't even recognize it anymore.
We are so empty.
We're so lost.
And we're all struggling for what is true.
How do I know?
I got to follow that guy.
I got to listen to that guy.
You don't listen to that guy.
You're an enemy.
What are you talking about?
You don't even begin to know what truth is.
Because we live in a time right now where we're promising ourselves the truth is whatever we feel right now.
Whatever I deem the truth is.
You don't agree with the truth, then you're an enemy.
But if truth is subjective, then freedom is an illusion.
And freedom is only illusion when lies root our world.
Because every lie is a leash.
And the moment you believe it, we hand that leash to somebody else, some other power to pull it.
So what does Jesus even mean when he says the truth will set you free?
And this is so important because if you understand this truth, everything else falls into place.
It'll take you a while, but it will.
He's saying this.
Freedom begins the minute your illusions die.
The moment the masks are ripped off.
The moment you stop defending that lie that keeps you comfortable.
Look, I'm a recovering alcoholic.
You know what the hardest part was?
First part was to admit I was an alcoholic, that I had a problem.
Because alcoholics are wino.
They're living in the street.
That's not true.
That's not true.
That's a lie I told myself to stop me from stopping drinking.
I'm not an alcoholic because that's what an alcoholic is.
That's a lie.
An alcoholic is whatever you are if you're drinking and you can't stop.
And then when I had to put my life back together, because first just admit the problem, then look at the problem, and then admit you're powerless over it, and then just vomit it all out.
Get all those lies out of you.
And the minute you start vomiting those lies out, you're like, but there's nothing left because my whole life is built on that lie.
The moment you stop pretending that the prison cell is actually a sanctuary, you're free.
I know I've lived it, but it doesn't help you necessarily know what's true in politics and everything else.
It just gives you perspective.
And that's what we've lost.
This is the part we forget.
Truth is not an idea.
Truth is not a philosophy.
Truth is a person.
I am the truth.
Not I carry the truth.
Not I teach the truth.
I am the truth.
That's what he says.
Which means the truth is not something you discover like a treasure in the dirt.
It is someone you meet.
And when you finally meet him, you begin to see reality as it actually is.
And everything else that you thought was important is you realize that's a lie.
None of that is important.
And believe me, when that happens, you become very dangerous.
Not to society, not to your neighbors, but to tyrants, to liars, to manipulators.
Anyone who depends on keeping you confused, ashamed, and afraid.
You have total freedom and you scare the living bat crap out of them.
Because the man who has met truth cannot be blackmailed by lies.
Why do you think tyrants need to stop religion first?
They couch this every single time.
And well, it's religion that is keeping you down.
No, it's not.
Not if you are following the truth, him, because he frees you from those lies.
And when you're freed from those lies, you know what to stand up for.
You know the big right and wrongs.
You may not know the policies, but you know the big ones.
And you can't be intimidated by a threat.
You can't be enslaved by shame.
You have nothing left to hide, nothing left to prove, nothing left to fear.
That's freedom.
Not, I can go out and say things and not be offended.

Glenn, can I hit you up quickly here before the end of the hour on this Henry Coyar pardon situation with the president?
Yeah.
I find it to be fascinating.
You know, he, if you didn't follow this, Henry Cueyar is a Democratic congressman, has occasionally been like a little sane on a couple of issues like the border.
Occasionally.
Occasionally, but like he's still a Democrat.
And President Trump comes out and says he's going to pardon Coyar.
He's dealing with some corruption charges and stuff.
Pardons him.
And then a couple of days later, Coyar says, all right, I'm running for my seat in Congress.
And then the president gets very upset and says, wait a minute, I pardoned you.
Kind of insinuating we had kind of had a deal or an understanding that if I didn't pardon you, if I pardoned you, you wouldn't run.
Now, I don't know what the background of that all was.
But what is your reaction to that?
And are you on board?
Would you support a constitutional amendment at this point to either completely change the pardon power or get rid of it completely?
Because I will say no.
I would say limit it towards the end.
I would say limit it to the end of the term.
I don't like this constant pardoning of stuff.
I don't like it.
I mean, I believe that the president should have it because injustice can be done.
But I just don't like the fact that the last president did 5,000 in one sitting and we just seem to be pardoning.
And I certainly don't like it for tit for tat.

If it's an injustice, pardon.
If not, no.
President Trump, honestly, like President Trump and to some, there's a lot of questions about the way that Biden won went down.
So I'll leave a little bit of room there.
But generally speaking, you can kind of do what you want with the power.
So none of them are necessarily breaking the law.
It's just one of those things where, I mean, they're talking about, you know, with it, Obama that like just basically pardoned an entire class of criminals.
It's like, that's just you making the law.
You're just overturning what Congress has done.
I know.
I just don't need it.
I think it needs to be reformed.

But I do, I mean, it was one of the first things that was put in with the president.
The president has always had the power.
But we've always had restraint on some of these things.

So I'm reading some really exciting stuff.
Three dozen Democrats and Republicans introduced a proposal to end the taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidies, which is really great.
And it was spearheaded by Josh Gottenheimer, a Democrat from New Jersey, and Ken Kiggins, a Republican from Virginia.
And it's a measure that's going to extend and reduce the tax credits in a two-step process, requiring two separate votes from Congress.
Okay.
So the first vote would extend the tax credits for a year with some modifications, including the addition of a new income limit.
Okay.
And then the second vote, which will definitely happen, would implement what the group described as more significant reforms.
Okay.
Don't worry.
I mean, they're just putting it into a two-step process, not because they think the second step will fail, but because they just want to make it simple for people.
And it's always easier to take two steps than one.
You see what I'm saying?
Now, here's a New Jersey congressman, self-declared conservative.

No, I'm sorry.
I do not like the Affordable Care Act.
It's fraught with all kinds of problems.
There's a lot of corruption.
But that's not the point today.

These subsidies haven't been good.
But ladies and gentlemen, we have a responsibility right to stop things that aren't good and are full of corruption.
One might say, but he doesn't.
So I believe we have two responsibilities.
One, to have a bridge for the American people that will allow them to keep their health insurance.
The second is a responsibility that we have to do much, much better with health care.
Okay.
Well, those aren't vague.
Stu I'm standing on, I'm standing, let's say, in front of a body of water, and I'm going to build a bridge.
What would I be assuming?
I'm standing on a cliff and in front of me is a body of water and I want to build a bridge.
What's the question that comes to mind?
A bridge to what?
What?
A bridge to where?
What's on the other side?
What are you building the bridge to?
If I said, if I'm standing on a cliff and it's the Pacific Ocean and I say, I want to build a bridge here, you would logically say, can't be done.
Too far.
Where are you going?
Hawaii, Australia, China, Russia?
Where are you building the bridge?
Might not be able to do that.
It's, quote, a bridge too far.
Or you might just say, there's no way you can build a bridge here.
What are you going to do?
You're building one to Russia?
Cause all kinds of new problems.
Okay.
All right.
Nobody's asking that question.
What are you building a bridge?
You're building a bridge for the American people.
What's on the other side of that bridge?
What is your plan after they get to the middle of the bridge?
Because assuming you've got them to the middle of the bridge, there's going to be something on the other side.
Or is it just they get to that cliff where the bridge has been built, there's still no land to get onto.
What do you say then?
We need a bridge to get people from here.
And do we build another bridge to nowhere?
We just keep tacking these bridges together until finally we arrive somewhere.
These are excellent bridge-related questions, Glenn.

Bridge-related.
We're keeping it in the bridge-related family.

This is a show, I would say, mostly known for its architecture talk.
Yeah, our architecture, engineering, engineering.
We're big with engineering.
Right.
So when this was created in 2021, these subsidies.
Yes.
They were a bridge to 2022.
They were a bridge to 2022.
And then what was interesting that happened is in 2022, they built yet another bridge to 2025 with the expectation that we should all understand that in 2022, we wouldn't need that bridge anymore.
And also in 2025, we wouldn't need that bridge anymore.
And now they're saying we desperately need a bridge to 2027 or 2028, depending on who you're listening to.
I think it's 2027.
Okay.
I think it's 2027.
2027.
But we're not going to need.
We're not going to need another bridge after that.
And what's fascinating about building a bridge, Glenn, is the expectation of that bridge is it's going to last a very long time.
You don't temporarily build bridges all that often.
Maybe the military, they're in the middle of a war, they'll build a temporary bridge over a bottle of water.
That's possible.
There are some uses for temporary bridges, but most bridges are actually designed to last forever or as long as they could possibly exist until a new bridge is built after them.
And that seems to be what we're doing here with this, which is just slowly building temporary bridges that we're calling temporary, but actually are permanent and continue to grow.
They seem to, we seem to have several bridges across the same river already.
And now we want more bridges over the same river.
We should have bridges to the other bridges.
Oh, that's the way to do it.
That's government efficiency in action.
If you have bridges to other bridges that aren't finished or going anywhere, then you have Washington in a nutshell.
Then you have something really to brag about.
Now, he also went on to say that he was upset that the GOP has not been working on this problem for the last 43 days.
And I would tend to agree with that, except I would say, I don't know, where have you been since 2009?
Where?
Why haven't you been working on this since 2009?
Every time you have an election, you're like, we're going to get rid of Obamacare.
We're going to fix that.
We're going to fix it.
It's really not that complex to fix.
You get government out of the way.
You take down all of the stupid, stupid rules between the states where you can't let anybody compete from one state to another.
Get rid of all those things.

With a leadership driver so slippery and bland, I knew in a moment they had no real plan.
More rapid than progressives, their excuses all came.
They whistled and shrugged and they shifted the blame.
Now tax cuts, now budgets, now spending to galore.
On omnibus, on bailouts, on debt, here's some more.
To the edge of disaster, let the treasury fall.
Now charge away, charge away, charge away all.
Like money that flies into DC's furnace flies, they burn through our future with pork-stuffed supplies.
So up to the debt ceiling, skyward it flew, with a sleigh full of nonsense and excuses too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the hill the whispers of justice that gave me a chill.
Indictments, investigations, I leaned in to browse.
Are they really cleaning house?
No, they were spying on you and your spouse.
The CIA, FBI, and DOJ too had wrapped secret programs in media view.
Their webs spun like garland through the bureau and press, a tinsel of treachery, a deep state, Christmas mess.
But the GOP stood there, all timid and meek, not drawing a line, not even a squeak.
Not at Nazis, those socialists vile.
Yes, socialist kids read a book once in a while.
They claim to love markets, the founders, the laws, yet cave every time when confronted with flaws.
Their words are like snowflakes that melt when they land.
No principle strong, no backbone at hand.
I spoke not a word, but went straight to my list.
A party that means what it says.
Did I miss?
A repeal of Obamacare.
That isn't pretend.
A budget that cuts more than taxes, my friends.
I signed it with hope, though the odds seemed quite slim.

House Republicans and the Treasury Secretary just now talked about a link to terrorism, a possible link.
He said they're just now beginning to look into it.
How confident are you that that's a false claim?
I'm pretty confident at the moment because there are people who have been prosecuted and who have been sentenced.
If there was a linkage in the money that they had stolen going to terrorism, then that is a failure of the FBI and our court system in not figuring that out and basically charging them with these charges.
And so I do know that for many years, this sort of like alarm that there is money being transferred through the airport in bags and going to terrorism has all that accusation has always existed.
There's never been here and there in those accusations.
Wow.
That's not really what the administration is saying.
The administration is saying remittances.
You send your money over to Somalia.
Al-Shabaab takes a cut of all money coming into the country.
That's the way it works.
So you don't have to be sending it like, hey, I'm marking this one to blow up my local library.
You're not doing that.
You're not marking it al-Shabaab.
Everything's sent over in remittances.
This is the claim that Al-Shabaab takes, I don't know, 10% or whatever.
They take a percentage of it.
That's how terrorism is being funded.
So you're in some ways seeming to describe a situation where you wouldn't get the best analysis on international terrorism funding from the eye candy of a Maroon 5 video.
Is that really your claim?
I want to make sure.
I don't.

She might not be the best source.

I find it very, very interesting the way all of this is playing out because it's not like her assumption there seems to be that when a crime is committed, it's law enforcement's fault for not catching it immediately.
Like that's that's the no, I think she's saying because they didn't they didn't charge them with fundering funding terrorism.
They charged them with fraud.
So if they didn't charge them with funding terrorism, then it's their fault.
See, actually, the people funding the terrorism are the ones mainly at fault.
It's not to say that there's no problem with not charging them.
In fact, they didn't get charged for any of this stuff when Biden was in office, or at least a lot of it.
But yeah, I mean, I would say, like, if someone were to, let me give you another just random example.
If, let's say, a black man walks up to a white man and stabs them, right, just in the street.
And then after that, that white man calls the black man a racial slur.
Now, I think we can agree that you should not use racial slurs and using a racial slur is suboptimal, right?
Suboptimal.
the other part of this though when you're analyzing the entire situation who would you put most at fault in that particular i'd put the white man that after he was stabbed by the black man calling him uh name i would say that guy is the real villain you should work on elan omar's staff then because uh really by the way that situation is a real situation uh It happened in Portland.
And the person, the black man was acquitted because after the stabbing, the white man called him a name.
A bad name, but called him a name.
Now, that's my understanding.
It was the Sticks and Stones part of the Constitution does not cover that exactly that way.
But what would I know at this point, Glenn?
I think that was our mother's constitution.
Okay, okay.
I don't think that was.

I was looking quickly just like YouTube.
There is a version of this that if you remember when that song came out, it played for a few years, and then some listener made an animation of the song.
And then that animation was uploaded to YouTube 17 years ago, and they called it a classic.
Like this is an animation of Glenn Beck's classic Christmas song.
So it's been a long time.
I don't know exactly how many years, but a lot of them.
But it was before really the woke thing was even a thing.
I mean, what we were talking about was the precursor to the woke thing, which has now gone through so many different variations where you had, gosh, we don't want to be politically correct.
We should be able to say what we want.
And then you weren't able to say anything.
And then you had like the George Floyd era where he like you went to prison if you said anything.
And then now we're on the other side of that.
And it's like now everyone's saying everything sometimes to an extent that isn't necessarily necessarily appropriate.
Example of that from over the weekend was the Cinnabon story.
Did you see this at all, Glenn?
No, I didn't.
Woman working at Cinnabon apparently has, I may think maybe Somalis come into the Cinnabon.
I don't know.
They get in some sort of argument.
The phone turns on.
They're filming her as she tells them that She calls them the n-word multiple times and says that she's proud of being a racist.
And, you know, you might not be shocked to hear that Cinnabon fired her for that.
But see, I don't think that's canceled culture.
So we can be clear.
No, that's not canceled culture.
No, I'm pretty sure it's difficult to employ someone calling customers of the store the N-word repeatedly while working at the store.
And proud to be a racist.
And proud to be a racist.
No, that's different.
We lose track of these terms sometimes.
And of course, now she's gone on to like, you know, one of these sites.
You know, I don't know if it's GoFundMe, but it's one of them.
And people have put up like, oh, gosh, she's been canceled.
Please help her.
And she's raised $100,000.
It's like, you know, you should not be rewarded for $100,000 for saying the N-word at Cinnabon.
No, you should give that to rappers.
Yes.
They're the ones that should get the money for using the N-word.
We've learned that many times.
Yes, exactly.
We've learned that.
How many times?
I just, I feel like we, you know, sometimes when society makes a really bad call over a long period of time, people get angry and want to push back against that appropriately.
And then that just keeps extending itself until it is no longer an appropriate pushback against that bad thing.
It's just its own bad thing.
And I don't know.
Maybe we should realize that.
When's the last time that you watched a Charlie Brown Christmas?
That's a great question.
I mean, it's probably last year or the year before.
I haven't watched it this year yet.
Yeah.
I watched it last night with my eldest daughter, Mary.
And we watched it.
We've been talking about watching.
We've been talking about watching it for a while.
We watched it last night, right before dinner.
And you think that, oh, simpler times, simpler times.
Look at the gospel of Luke is in that, right?
You know, doesn't anybody know the real meaning of Christmas?
I do, Charlie Brown.
That was, that was not, nobody thought that that special was going to work.
Did you know this?
Yeah.
The Charlie Brown Christmas, they thought was slow, boring, and way too sad.
And no child was going to was going to embrace it.
Coca-Cola went to CBS and said, You want to talk about, it's all a giant syndicate, you know.
Coca-Cola went to CBS and said, we want a Christmas special to advertise in.
And so they went to this guy, Lee Mendelssohn, who had just done a documentary on Charles Schultz and had become friends with Charles Schultz.
And he said, you know, would you do a Christmas thing?
And he said, I don't know.
I'll do it.
And so they went back and forth.
And the animator said that we have to have real children's voices.
And I want to use a really sparse soundtrack.
I just want to, I just want to make the music really important.
So he went to the jazz band to do the Charlie Brown Christmas stuff.
And Charles Schultz said, I'll only do it if we include the Gospel of Luke.
And CBS was like, you can't put the Gospel of Luke in there.
I mean, that's just, that's a bridge too far.
Back in 1965.
So the year, I think it's a year after I'm born, it airs.
So they're making this while my mom is pushing me out.
They're making the Charlie Brown Christmas.
Okay.
And it was controversial back then to put the Christmas story in.
They finish it.
They expect it to last one year.
Everybody at CBS is like, just don't tell Coca-Cola.
nobody's going to watch this thing.
And it turned out to be a huge, huge blockbuster.
It ran for, I think, 35 years every single year.
They only played it once.
I remember as a kid, tonight is Charlie Brown.
Tonight's Charlie Brown.
Don't forget.
Tonight is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman.
And so you would make your, as a kid, it was the, that's all you talked about.
on those days on Christmas, in the Christmas season.
You would say, how many days until Charlie Brown?
When is this going to play?
Don't forget, watch it tonight.
And we watched it for 35 years and on CBS.
Then it, in 2001, it moved to ABC and now it's on Apple TV and they have all of the peanut stuff.
But I was thinking as I was watching it last night, I thought, how much money has this thing made?
And who has all that money?
Who got all that money?
Who are they still paying for these?
Because it had to be a fortune.
A fortune.
Every penny, though.
Like, think about it, like, that is, you know, the exposure to, like, you're rooting for the kid talking about God.
What is that?
I know.
I mean, what an incredible dynamic that played out.
It is unbelievable watching it and how out of place that particular thing feels in a way, because, you know, as you note the sort of sparseness of the production of it, the whole thing just stops.
And there's like that long walk to the stage before he goes into the speech.
Like it is really like, it totally draws your attention.
It was too slow in the 1960s.
Yeah.
They say it was too slow in the 1960s.
So imagine, I mean, that's why we feel it today.
Imagine what our kids think about this.
They're like, oh, God.
I watched three TikTok videos by the time Linus said there was something and he said, turn on the lights.
It was like, it's crazy.
It really is amazing.
And it has a way of just drawing your attention in.
Like it's so sparse and so almost like the pacing of it's so awkward, especially in that moment that you can't help but kind of lean in.
You know, you're like, wait, what's he about to say?
And it's, and then he just goes into like reading the Bible.
It is a, it's an amazing moment in American television history.
And thank God it exists.
I mean, it is something that has probably introduced a ton of kids to this stuff for the first time.
You know, I mean, there's probably tons of kids that just like generally Christmas that watch an enjoyable Christmas thing and learn about the real story of Christmas as it was intended.
Back in just a minute.
