[00:00:01] Today we're joined by the most punctual black comedian in America. [00:00:05] An easier to break down Shannon Sharp's future. [00:00:07] He shares some insane stories of living with one of LA's most dangerous gangsters who's currently serving life in prison. [00:00:14] He reveals a private conversation he had with OJ Simpson and how Charlamagne and I played a key role in his very public divorce. [00:00:22] That's my goal for 2019. [00:00:23] 16 years. [00:00:24] How long have you been faithful? [00:00:28] Give it up right now for the legend himself, Gary Owen. [00:00:32] Gary is a legendary comedian. [00:00:35] Absolutely hilarious. [00:00:36] There's no special. [00:00:37] No S is available at mintcomedy.com. [00:00:40] Make sure you go check that out. [00:00:41] It's Gary Owen. [00:00:42] No S. You hear that? [00:00:45] We know that. [00:00:46] There's one person on the couch that might not be that. [00:00:49] Black people love the letter S. Shrimps. [00:01:02] Shrimps. [00:01:03] Do Latinos do that too? [00:01:04] Do they pluralize? [00:01:06] I don't know. [00:01:06] Yeah, you don't know. [00:01:07] I don't know. [00:01:07] I don't have that. [00:01:10] Yeah, I didn't know it was just my friends until Kanye said, Prince Williams ain't do I write if you ask me. [00:01:15] And I was like, Prince William? [00:01:16] How the fuck do you get Williams? [00:01:18] It's not a last name. [00:01:19] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:01:20] Black people love that letter. [00:01:21] Is it really Serena William? [00:01:26] I never Googled that. [00:01:27] I don't know. [00:01:28] That's crazy. [00:01:30] Anyway, you're a big football fan, right? [00:01:32] What did you make of the Shador Sanders thing? [00:01:35] Do you care about college ball at all or are you just Bengals? [00:01:37] I think we made a lot of nothing. [00:01:40] It's not the first guy to drop. [00:01:42] Five rounds is crazy, though. [00:01:44] There was really only like five or six teams looking for a quarterback in the beginning. [00:01:49] It wasn't like 32 teams. [00:01:50] Like the Bengal was not going to get him. [00:01:53] You know what I mean? [00:01:53] The Ravens were not going to get him. [00:01:55] So they act like all 32 teams. [00:01:57] I go, really, we all knew it was five or six teams. [00:02:00] It was the Giants, the Saints, the Titans. [00:02:03] They went and got Cam. [00:02:05] Wars, they were out. [00:02:06] Right. [00:02:07] Literally, every round, you were looking at four teams. [00:02:09] That's right. [00:02:10] You already got a quarterback. [00:02:11] You're not even picking it up. [00:02:12] Here's where I disagree. [00:02:12] I think there's five or six teams not looking for a quarterback. [00:02:15] The Bengals, because they got Burrow. [00:02:17] The Ravens, because they got Lamar. [00:02:18] The Bills, because they got Josh Allen. [00:02:20] A couple other teams. [00:02:20] If your quarterback isn't that tier, the Chiefs, Smalls, you're looking for a quarterback. [00:02:25] If you're Dak, if you're the Cowboys, you got Dak Prescott. [00:02:27] He's old. [00:02:28] He's coming off the season ending injury twice in the past three years. [00:02:31] Draft a fucking quarterback. [00:02:32] Most teams, your quarterback's not good. [00:02:34] So you might as well draft a guy, take a chance in the third, fourth round, and just see what happens. [00:02:38] Well, I'm also thinking next year is supposed to be quarterback heavy. [00:02:41] So do you want to bring him in now? [00:02:44] You're not going to win. [00:02:44] Like, you know what? [00:02:45] Let's hold off, get this D-linem. [00:02:47] Get this. [00:02:48] And what's the ball thing? [00:02:48] If you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks. [00:02:50] Yeah, and the Browns got five. [00:02:54] But he's got a shot. [00:02:55] He's in the perfect situation now. [00:02:56] So explain. [00:02:57] Yeah, because the expectations are low. [00:02:59] Very low. [00:03:00] Only exceed expectations. [00:03:01] And they're building a new stadium. [00:03:02] If he comes in balls, they're going to be in a dome next year. [00:03:05] Oh, wow. [00:03:05] I mean, he's going to be comfy. [00:03:07] Yeah, he's going to be, that's what they keep saying. [00:03:09] He's in the cold. [00:03:09] I go, no, he's not. [00:03:10] Yeah. [00:03:11] He's got no weather to worry about after next year. [00:03:13] That's great. [00:03:14] Yeah, it was weird. [00:03:15] It's like, I don't understand if GMs or if NFL GMs are like the most open-minded people or they're racist because it's like, if you beat your wife, they'll be like, they expect that, but he knew. [00:03:32] Oh, my God. [00:03:33] There is. [00:03:34] You should have went on the pivot. [00:03:37] Come on. [00:03:40] That's my point. [00:03:40] I watch it happen with a black quarterback every year. [00:03:42] Justin Field went to a bad situation. [00:03:44] He wasn't good, but Fields? [00:03:46] Fields. [00:03:49] They got down to questioning everything. [00:03:51] I fell for no reason. [00:03:53] Lamar Jackson fell out of the first round. [00:03:54] It's always, I don't see this happen with white quarterbacks very often. [00:03:57] What are you talking about? [00:03:57] Tim Couch won the Heisman at Nebraska. [00:03:59] They drafted him and said you got to switch positions because he sucked. [00:04:03] Somebody can say the same thing about Shador. [00:04:07] Tim Count played in like a wishboard. [00:04:11] This is good. [00:04:12] I like this. [00:04:12] Smarts and racism collide. [00:04:20] I'm a very proponent of black quarterbacks. [00:04:22] Okay, come to see me. [00:04:25] You know what I mean? [00:04:26] The white ones. [00:04:29] I've been seeing some white people at your shows recently, bro. [00:04:32] Yeah, it's starting to happen. [00:04:33] I've been seeing some fucking white people at your shows. [00:04:36] And gays, I saw that clip with the gays. [00:04:38] Dude, I did a gay guy sat in the front. [00:04:42] Bro, the moment there was like five of them. [00:04:44] Well, that's that's what I was getting to. [00:04:45] There was a gay guy that sat in the front in Ontario. [00:04:48] And we got it. [00:04:49] It just, the stars aligned, it was perfect. [00:04:52] He laughed at every joke. [00:04:53] He was open everything. [00:04:55] He had like my boyfriend tastes better shirt or something like that. [00:04:59] Posted that. [00:05:00] It did great on the internet. [00:05:02] And then I come to Houston and now there's a line of gay guys. [00:05:05] Like, yeah, we saw the video. [00:05:06] I was like, oh, shit, this might be the audience. [00:05:09] I didn't even know. [00:05:10] So this whole time. [00:05:14] They love S's. [00:05:20] You're going to get Gary No R for sure. [00:05:23] That's pretty fucking awesome. [00:05:27] That was good. [00:05:28] That was good. [00:05:29] You're doing a fucking cracker. [00:05:32] So you got white people showing up to your shows. [00:05:34] Gays showing up to your shows. [00:05:35] This is crazy. [00:05:35] You're like 20-something years into how many years? [00:05:39] 25. [00:05:40] Seven? [00:05:40] So 28? [00:05:41] 28 years into your career. [00:05:43] Wow. [00:05:44] Harlem. [00:05:44] White people found you. [00:05:46] They did. [00:05:46] You started posting on YouTube, Instagram. [00:05:49] White people find you. [00:05:50] The gays find you. [00:05:51] Now, how does the black community feel about this? [00:05:53] They've held you down for 28 years. [00:05:56] I've got enough equity in the community. [00:05:58] Then it's fine. [00:05:59] They're good. [00:05:59] So they're just, they don't feel like the white people are taking the thing that they started. [00:06:04] No, no. [00:06:04] Well, got to buy their tickets sooner. [00:06:08] White people buy it in advance. [00:06:10] I ain't going to lie. [00:06:11] That shit happened to me too. [00:06:13] Because you know, for years, my audience was only black, right? [00:06:15] Like, people knew me from Geico and they knew me from Brilliant Idiots. [00:06:19] And so I do clubs around the country. [00:06:21] And like the owners would say, which I'm sure they said to you initially, they were like, you look the way you look and your audience does. [00:06:26] Like, what exactly is going on? [00:06:27] They didn't understand it. [00:06:28] And it was funny. [00:06:30] Like, once I did Rogan and like white people started finding out about me, them white people buy tickets in November for a show. [00:06:35] And 80% of them. [00:06:37] They are early on that. [00:06:38] Yeah, yeah. [00:06:40] MSG would have been sweating bullets. [00:06:44] What is going on? [00:06:45] Another Cassidy? [00:06:47] Welcome to Hugh. [00:06:47] Trust me. [00:06:48] Now, I heard a rumor, and I don't know if it's true, but maybe DL can D.L. Hughley can confirm it one day. [00:06:54] But when he got the Hughleys, it really crossed him over in the mainstream. [00:06:59] And the rumor was. [00:07:00] That's why he got the neck tattoos. [00:07:02] He was like, I got to keep these white people. [00:07:04] The rumor was he would tell the comedy clubs, this show don't sell in advance because they were all white people's buying so far in advance. [00:07:13] He goes, like, the late show Saturday, we're not putting that on sale yet. [00:07:17] That was the rumor I heard. [00:07:18] That's cool. [00:07:19] That's awesome. [00:07:20] Yo, Gary, here's a good question, right? [00:07:22] Both of us have done Uncle Shannon's podcast. [00:07:26] Yeah. [00:07:27] This is really why we wanted you to be on here. [00:07:29] Outside of your special being out, you having this prolific career, being one of the most successful touring comedians in American history. [00:07:35] You've been doing this shit 28 years. [00:07:36] Yeah. [00:07:37] Okay. [00:07:37] A lot of people don't realize that. [00:07:38] People have little bumps and blips, but 28 years is not a game. [00:07:42] You go on Shannon's podcast. [00:07:44] Almost immediately afterwards, some little white girl sues him for a horrible thing. [00:07:51] Did you introduce? [00:07:52] Did you? [00:07:53] I introduced the show. [00:07:56] You know that. [00:07:58] That's completely out of my wheelhouse. [00:08:01] You're trying to bring her back, guys. [00:08:03] I've said it numerous times. [00:08:05] I ain't had white pussy since white pussy had me. [00:08:07] No, wait, you haven't had a little. [00:08:10] One, 1996. [00:08:11] No. [00:08:12] That's her husband. [00:08:13] Met her at TJI Fridays. [00:08:15] That's what I was. [00:08:16] That's crazy. [00:08:17] Whoever you are, you ruined everything. [00:08:19] It was off Highway 8 in San Diego. [00:08:21] I remember. [00:08:22] It was bad. [00:08:23] No, It must have been bad if you never went back. [00:08:26] No, she was a white girl that only liked black dudes. [00:08:30] And she picked up on me. [00:08:32] And we both said, we're just going to try. [00:08:34] She tried to interact. [00:08:34] Let's just see what happens. [00:08:36] We both made a consensus decision. [00:08:38] You know what? [00:08:38] Bucket list? [00:08:39] Check. [00:08:41] Like a gay and lesbian hooking up decision. [00:08:45] Just to try. [00:08:46] Look at my feet. [00:08:47] Just to try this real quick. [00:08:49] I didn't realize that didn't sound good. [00:08:51] Okay, so wow, you never and you never. [00:08:53] Were you never into white girls or were they not into you or what was it? [00:08:56] A little bit of both. [00:08:58] Because literally it's both. [00:08:59] It was like, even when I was in the Navy, we go out of state of San Diego and we go out to Pacific Beach. [00:09:04] It's all beach bars, white people. [00:09:06] There'd be one black girl. [00:09:08] And at the end of the night, my boys would be like, how does this happen every night? [00:09:12] I just be in the corner. [00:09:13] I don't know why. [00:09:14] I don't know. [00:09:15] Just, they like me, I like them. [00:09:18] So we just went with it. [00:09:19] And have you been like the first white guy for a lot of people? [00:09:22] Oh, so many. [00:09:24] So many. [00:09:26] If I hear this shit one more time. [00:09:28] Also, the myth ain't true. [00:09:30] Let's go, Gary. [00:09:32] Let's go, Gary. [00:09:36] Okay, what myth? [00:09:37] What myth? [00:09:39] Certain myths. [00:09:41] Thank you so much. [00:09:41] So you're the first. [00:09:42] Now, knowing you're the first white guy. [00:09:45] Okay. [00:09:46] Knowing you're the first white guy, do you ever, are you ever like, let me just do some like wild shit and then just blame it on being white? [00:09:52] Like, do you ever do that? [00:09:54] No, I'm actually, I'm probably a little more apprehensive. [00:09:56] I'm not really a talker. [00:09:58] Oh. [00:09:58] So, you know, it makes you uncomfortable when, because Gary is not the best name in the bedroom. [00:10:04] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:10:05] You know, are you beating this pussy up, Gary? [00:10:12] There's certain names like Rodney sounds like you can put some shit down. [00:10:18] Rodney Morning. [00:10:19] It's got Rodney in it. [00:10:20] Rodney's a name that looks like you can put it down the bedroom, but ain't going to pan out in life. [00:10:28] If you grow up in a Rodney, at some point you will get this phone call as an adult. [00:10:31] And you hear what happened? [00:10:32] Rodney? [00:10:34] It falls apart. [00:10:35] It falls apart in 1718. [00:10:37] Rodney's a beast. [00:10:38] He was a beast of a fullback. [00:10:43] But do you feel pressure as the great white hope? [00:10:47] You're representing all of us, bro. [00:10:49] If you're in someone's first time with a white guy, there's probably a lot of black girls that fuck another white dude after you because you represented us well. [00:10:57] So there's a lot of white dudes that got black pussy that might have never gotten it because of you. [00:11:02] You're welcome. [00:11:04] You're welcome, folks. [00:11:06] Yep. [00:11:06] And then after that, they probably never did it again. [00:11:09] So they went two times. [00:11:11] Yeah. [00:11:12] It's probably happened. [00:11:13] Yeah. [00:11:14] But you don't care. [00:11:15] No, it's funny. [00:11:16] Like, there's a couple. [00:11:18] Once you go away, you give it one more night. [00:11:19] There's a couple X's. [00:11:22] What's crazy? [00:11:22] A couple X's from my past. [00:11:25] And then... [00:11:25] Was this while you were married? [00:11:29] Can you bring up that clip? [00:11:30] No, We gotta bring up this clip. [00:11:32] Give it ice coffee immediately. [00:11:36] This is one of the greatest clips in internet history. [00:11:38] This is one of the greatest clips in internet history. [00:11:40] You need to get this clip up. [00:11:41] It's a brilliant idiot. [00:11:42] I'm starting to sweat. [00:11:44] You're gonna start from the beginning, beginning, though. [00:11:46] That's the thing. [00:11:46] You gotta put the volume all the way up. [00:11:47] It's been reposted everywhere. [00:11:50] You might be a black comic. [00:11:53] This is the one I didn't know. [00:11:54] I didn't know you could pull this up. [00:11:55] I thought there was copyrights enough, and it was yours. [00:11:58] Okay, let's go. [00:11:59] This is while Gary is happily married. [00:12:01] I'm going to get you back to cheating, bro. [00:12:03] This year, that's my goal. [00:12:03] That's my goal for 2019. [00:12:05] 16 years. [00:12:06] How long have you been faithful? [00:12:13] Don't laugh. [00:12:14] Don't laugh. [00:12:14] You can't laugh. [00:12:16] Labby's incriminated. [00:12:18] Gary a towel. [00:12:19] Somebody get Gary a tambour towel. [00:12:21] Get him a shirt. [00:12:22] Get him. [00:12:22] That's not that's going to show that. [00:12:24] Let's get some AC on in here. [00:12:26] That came up in court, bro. [00:12:27] No, it didn't. [00:12:28] Oh, my gosh. [00:12:29] No, it didn't. [00:12:30] This is your fault. [00:12:31] No, it didn't. [00:12:32] You ruined his marriage. [00:12:33] You know, I came up with it. [00:12:34] We settled, but it came up in court. [00:12:36] So that's it. [00:12:37] Gary, Gary's been coming on brilliant idiots throughout the entire destruction of his marriage. [00:12:43] And it probably started in that moment where he couldn't swallow coffee while trying to pretend to be faithful. [00:12:49] I was like, why is this coming to me? [00:12:51] Here's the funniest shit. [00:12:54] How big was the ice cube in your throat? [00:12:57] You'll appreciate this being a sports fan. [00:13:01] Randomly, I pressed follow to follow Max Crosby, the DN for the Raiders, right? [00:13:06] Yeah. [00:13:07] All of a sudden, he sends me a voice memo on IG, like, bro, you're a legend, man. [00:13:13] I'm thinking about to do one of my specials. [00:13:15] He goes, dude, the funniest shit ever. [00:13:18] When they asked you if you were faithful. [00:13:21] And you started choking, bro. [00:13:24] That was legendary. [00:13:25] I'm like, this. [00:13:26] All the shit I've done, Max. [00:13:28] That's what you know me for. [00:13:30] That's in the comic. [00:13:33] Does films show? [00:13:36] That's what the motherfucker knows me for. [00:13:39] I mean, he was dying. [00:13:40] Like, oh my God, bro. [00:13:42] That's the funniest shit. [00:13:43] I feel like Marlon Wayne. [00:13:46] Marlon sweats on every podcast. [00:13:50] Wait, how did your lawyer defend the clip? [00:13:52] No, no, no. [00:13:53] It wasn't. [00:13:54] My ex, she said, she goes, I just saw a video. [00:13:58] I've never seen it before. [00:13:59] I guess when everything came out, people started sending her shit. [00:14:02] They said, you should have known. [00:14:03] I was like, this. [00:14:05] So then she brought it up. [00:14:06] Okay. [00:14:07] So you went, you had this. [00:14:08] I didn't know. [00:14:08] No. [00:14:10] That was crazy. [00:14:11] You were crazy for that. [00:14:12] Like, why didn't you just swallow? [00:14:13] What was happening? [00:14:14] What? [00:14:17] I need to play by play that. [00:14:18] I didn't know it just got sick. [00:14:20] Yeah. [00:14:21] I was just going to say, yeah, and it just came out right. [00:14:24] Yeah. [00:14:24] I don't know what happened. [00:14:26] But the question was: how many years have you been faithful? [00:14:28] Yes, Gary. [00:14:33] Don't commit a crime with Gary. [00:14:35] Let's get back to my special. === The Truth About My Divorce (07:33) === [00:14:41] Look at that. [00:14:42] Look at Mike. [00:14:42] God damn, that was funny. [00:14:44] Hilarious. [00:14:45] All right, so you're so organic. [00:14:47] Yeah. [00:14:47] You had a crazy, you had a you had this crazy divorce. [00:14:50] It's sad, but it's over now. [00:14:51] Everything's fine. [00:14:52] That's funny. [00:14:53] And I'm still watching this. [00:14:56] No, it's PTSD. [00:14:58] It's like silent divorce. [00:15:01] You know what? [00:15:01] It's him. [00:15:02] He's the strongest mouth. [00:15:04] It's like Kobe gameplay. [00:15:07] Who's the guy? [00:15:08] Who's the guy? [00:15:09] Oh, it's Jean Tang. [00:15:10] Jeep. [00:15:10] Yeah. [00:15:12] Jeep Tang. [00:15:13] That's a heavy punch. [00:15:15] Yeah, I know. [00:15:18] I first saw the little thing. [00:15:20] That's so good, dude. [00:15:21] Actually, it's good. [00:15:22] Bro, I don't want to point this out. [00:15:24] This is how you know Gary's a black comic. [00:15:25] Is that you still have lotion in your ear a little? [00:15:28] No, don't worry about it. [00:15:29] Don't like it all. [00:15:29] I swear, do you see it? [00:15:32] I'm so sorry. [00:15:33] Lotion out of the middle. [00:15:34] I'm sorry about that. [00:15:35] But it is better. [00:15:36] I couldn't believe it. [00:15:40] He's like, there's, oh, you're at a Marriott property? [00:15:44] That's definitely a Maryotype. [00:15:46] I guess you could. [00:15:47] That's the Marriott lotion right there. [00:15:50] I'm sorry for pointing it out, but I couldn't. [00:15:53] It was like gaunt in his ear, bro. [00:15:56] Sweat bullets. [00:15:58] Watch him. [00:15:59] Why am I watching? [00:16:03] Why are you looking at my son? [00:16:08] Why are you crazy? [00:16:14] You ain't been around this man white people in 40 years. [00:16:22] There's two of you. [00:16:23] Stop laughing, man. [00:16:26] I didn't want to do this podcast. [00:16:29] Oh, my God. [00:16:31] Oh, my God. [00:16:33] I'm dying here. [00:16:34] Also, guys, tour dates, June 19th and through 21st. [00:16:38] I'm going to be in Salt Lake City at Wise Guys. [00:16:46] I'm coming to Charleston, South Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, Stroudsburg, PA, Hoboken, Indianapolis, Buffalo, and a bunch of other dates. [00:16:52] You can get them at Mark Agnon Live. [00:16:53] I'm bringing you my debut tour, one hour of stand-up comedy, no more, no less. [00:16:57] I'll see you guys at the show. [00:16:57] Suck his day. [00:16:58] Yo, what happened to your hand, by the way? [00:17:00] Oh, yeah, fucking. [00:17:02] Pickleball? [00:17:04] Oh, yeah, Gary. [00:17:05] Pickleball. [00:17:06] Paddle. [00:17:07] No, that's funnier. [00:17:08] Yeah. [00:17:09] I don't play. [00:17:10] Pickleball. [00:17:10] No, I played paddle. [00:17:11] A lot of people confuse it. [00:17:13] Yeah. [00:17:16] I didn't whoop you. [00:17:17] I spanked you. [00:17:21] Different sport. [00:17:22] Is it different? [00:17:23] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:17:24] How? [00:17:25] Well, it's basically, I love talking about this one day. [00:17:28] Thanks, I just want to let you know. [00:17:29] So pickleball is just like tennis, like you're standing on a ping-pong table. [00:17:33] Paddle's like squash and tennis put together. [00:17:35] So there's like... [00:17:35] I don't know what squash is. [00:17:36] It's basically there's walls on all sides. [00:17:38] So you can use the walls. [00:17:40] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:17:41] I don't know. [00:17:41] Squash. [00:17:42] Squash. [00:17:42] Yeah, yeah. [00:17:43] So there's walls on all sides. [00:17:44] So you can use the walls. [00:17:45] And there's like fence and you can hit the ball off the walls. [00:17:47] The ball's always in play. [00:17:49] Paddle? [00:17:49] Where's the wall? [00:17:50] That wall is in the back, that like clear glass. [00:17:52] Oh, it's glass. [00:17:53] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:17:55] The scoring's the same. [00:17:56] Say again? [00:17:56] Scoring is the same? [00:17:57] I've never played pickleball, so I wouldn't know. [00:18:00] He said that like it was cool. [00:18:04] But what happened in your head? [00:18:05] Is it okay? [00:18:05] No, I just scratched. [00:18:06] I just scratched it. [00:18:07] This is really like, I wish there was something funnier about this story, but it's not. [00:18:11] Damn. [00:18:12] Yeah. [00:18:13] I noticed you have a wedding ring on again. [00:18:14] Yeah, why would you get back on? [00:18:15] Like, why would you do that again? [00:18:17] It was really tumultuous. [00:18:18] You're a divorce. [00:18:19] That's the thing that's shit off the internet. [00:18:22] I know. [00:18:23] I know. [00:18:24] It's a giant diamond. [00:18:26] Diamonds. [00:18:27] It's down here. [00:18:30] Are you... [00:18:32] How long have you been faithful to this girl? [00:18:34] Shut up. [00:18:36] Only once. [00:18:40] Let's see. [00:18:40] Let's see. [00:18:41] You're not answering. [00:18:42] How long have you been faithful? [00:18:44] It's a different relationship. [00:18:47] Nice. [00:18:48] That was a big reason for the original divorce, though. [00:18:51] Like, we just stopped being fidelity. [00:18:54] Yeah, we stopped being in on it. [00:18:55] You guys stopped having sex. [00:18:56] Oh, I think the last six years, three times. [00:19:00] Whoa. [00:19:00] Whoa. [00:19:02] Only one of them stopped. [00:19:03] So when I was on your podcast, that was deep in the six. [00:19:06] That was deep in the six. [00:19:07] God. [00:19:08] But now let's now just out of because you brought this up. [00:19:10] I didn't bring this up. [00:19:12] Was that when you started, you know, kind of seeking other holes? [00:19:18] Extramarital relationships. [00:19:19] Yeah. [00:19:19] I mean, it had a big part of it. [00:19:21] Right, right, right. [00:19:22] You know what I mean? [00:19:23] You're not sleeping with your wife, isn't it? [00:19:25] Were you trying, though? [00:19:25] Are you trying? [00:19:26] No. [00:19:27] That's trash. [00:19:27] You weren't even trying. [00:19:28] She wasn't either, though. [00:19:29] Neither of us. [00:19:29] We went through COVID and just never touched. [00:19:33] It was like... [00:19:34] We're watching Walking Dead and All-American. [00:19:37] That was COVID. [00:19:38] So you're literally, I was watching All-American like it was a real team. [00:19:42] I'm like, yo, how's he going to leave Beverly High for Compton? [00:19:45] I did this with Friday Night Lights. [00:19:47] I remember that. [00:19:47] Like, I actually cared about if they were going to win. [00:19:49] Yeah. [00:19:50] So, I mean, that's really what it came down to. [00:19:52] Yeah, no, so that was COVID. [00:19:53] This clip is from well before COVID. [00:19:55] So I'm just curious on the timeline of all of it. [00:19:58] Yeah, I've been, we've been, what, it's been five years? [00:20:00] So we're separated. [00:20:02] Gary, I feel like you're getting back into the iced coffee moment. [00:20:06] Like you're slowly walking ourselves back in. [00:20:08] I feel like you are. [00:20:09] And we don't even want to be there, but you are walking back into it because you have a beautiful new marriage right now. [00:20:14] You have twins, right? [00:20:15] Yeah. [00:20:15] That's amazing. [00:20:16] I'm sure it's exactly what you wanted. [00:20:26] You got to go down to 55. [00:20:30] Immediately after this, not working. [00:20:32] Bro, this divorce was so tragic, but also so the way that you describe it, you came on brilliant and you were breaking it down. [00:20:39] Dude, I was fucking crying laughing. [00:20:41] Do you remember some of the process server? [00:20:43] The process server. [00:20:44] Can you just break down that story a little bit? [00:20:47] Okay. [00:20:48] If you feel comfortable. [00:20:49] No, no, no. [00:20:50] It's in the past. [00:20:50] Yeah, it's all cleared. [00:20:51] This, okay, go. [00:20:52] So the process server. [00:20:54] Can you break down the process server too? [00:20:55] This thing. [00:20:56] When you file for divorce, you want to, this happens a lot when you want, when you got houses in two different states. [00:21:04] So we had a house in Ohio and a house in California. [00:21:08] So I filed for divorce in Ohio. [00:21:12] Reason being, obviously, financially, usually it's better in Ohio. [00:21:17] But we were registered voters in Ohio. [00:21:18] We pay taxes in Ohio. [00:21:20] But the real reason is because if you divorce in California, you're fucked. [00:21:24] That too. [00:21:25] But we can't file in California because if it goes down, then they're going to come after us for tax evasion and voter fraud. [00:21:34] So I didn't do it out of just California. [00:21:38] I was like, no, we are registered voters. [00:21:41] Before we built the house in California, I asked my accountant, I go, I don't want to pay California taxes. [00:21:46] How can I get a house in California? [00:21:47] He goes, long, you spend less than half the year. [00:21:50] I'm on the road every year. [00:21:51] So I'm on the road half of you. [00:21:52] I was like, no problem. [00:21:53] And you got to keep a residency somewhere else. [00:21:55] Boom. [00:21:55] Ohio. [00:21:56] So even if you looked, it was funny. [00:21:57] If you looked at our neighborhood in California, all the license plates was Nevada, Arizona. [00:22:02] None of them were California. [00:22:03] Everybody was doing the same shit. [00:22:05] So that's really why I filed in Ohio. [00:22:07] And then as soon as I tried to do the somewhat respectful thing, I said, hey, I'm not happy with a divorce. === Avoiding California Taxes (15:16) === [00:22:14] And I said, so if there's a knock on the door, just so you know, it's probably a process server. [00:22:19] You said that to her. [00:22:20] Yeah, yeah. [00:22:21] And she was, she was also trying to serve your ass. [00:22:23] That's when, that's when she's like, she went left. [00:22:26] I was like, oh, this ain't going to be good because I heard the door knocking. [00:22:29] The guy was knocking and she wouldn't answer. [00:22:31] I go, I think the door's knocking. [00:22:32] She goes, nah, it's probably Amazon. [00:22:34] I go, fuck. [00:22:35] Oh, wow. [00:22:36] She knows. [00:22:36] Like, she's about to do something. [00:22:39] And so she didn't answer the door. [00:22:40] And then like two days later, the TMZ shit came out where she filed in LA against me. [00:22:46] And now I was like, wait, we don't live in LA. [00:22:48] We lived in the Bay. [00:22:49] And so that started off a like three-month cat and mouse game of avoiding a process server. [00:22:57] I went to my boy's house in West Virginia. [00:23:00] I was off the grid. [00:23:01] I wasn't using credit cards, cash. [00:23:03] Like, they're not going to find me in this dude's house. [00:23:05] Like, it was damn near deliverance. [00:23:08] I mean, it was, it was. [00:23:09] You were hiding at the comedy clubs. [00:23:11] Comedy clubs. [00:23:12] I would stay in the hotels. [00:23:13] I'd be under Muhammad Shabazz. [00:23:17] Because I'm ordering bacon for breakfast. [00:23:22] Literally, the groove service guy's like, oh, this is a Muslim. [00:23:26] I don't need that turkey shit. [00:23:28] So I was at, I remember the four seasons in Baltimore for two weeks. [00:23:33] I never left my room. [00:23:34] And then I would go to the shows and then they'd pick me up like underneath the hotel. [00:23:42] And it was like, we'd drive over. [00:23:43] And my opener was at this other hotel under my name. [00:23:48] So he was hoping to like mislead them. [00:23:50] Yeah. [00:23:51] You know, and then let me see. [00:23:57] They almost got me in Colorado Springs. [00:24:00] So I had my normal opener, and he's a bulldog, but he didn't go with me. [00:24:04] And I said, I got a bad feeling about next week, man. [00:24:06] You're not with me. [00:24:07] And we weren't in Colorado Springs five minutes. [00:24:09] I'm crossing the road. [00:24:10] I'm getting to the club like two hours early. [00:24:13] And this guy goes, Hey, Gary. [00:24:15] And I looked and I saw him pulling the paper out of his back. [00:24:19] And I, motherfucker, I turned into Ricky from Boys and Girls. [00:24:24] And he started chasing me and he threw the texture view it's on, right? [00:24:28] Yeah, he threw it. [00:24:30] It didn't hit me, right? [00:24:31] And one of my guys, I had two guys with me, and they both got fired after this weekend because I told him, I said, your one job is to not let him come. [00:24:38] He, the dude walked right between them. [00:24:40] Just right between them. [00:24:41] They looked, I go, I don't want you to fight nobody, but stop him. [00:24:45] And then the one guy started looking at the paper as I go, don't fucking touch that. [00:24:50] Because if they touch it, I can be surprised. [00:24:53] So I'm, then I go in the dressing room, and now I'm turning into Cuba Gooding. [00:24:58] He's swinging on the air shit. [00:25:01] You know, this money's going to cost me. [00:25:03] And it did. [00:25:04] It was, it was, it was six figures. [00:25:07] I'm going to say how much for jurisdiction. [00:25:10] Just going to court. [00:25:11] Now I had to hire a lawyer in California to fight it, fight jurisdiction. [00:25:15] That was just, it was just a big waste of time. [00:25:17] But ultimately, we got in Ohio. [00:25:20] And we settled. [00:25:21] We got her. [00:25:23] That's what we said. [00:25:24] Oh, yeah, we got her at a Panera Bread. [00:25:25] I go, what happened? [00:25:26] I go, we got her. [00:25:28] We got her at a Panera Bread in Antioch, California. [00:25:30] And it was crazy how it happened. [00:25:32] Like, I had hired a process server and I said 24-7 surveillance on the house. [00:25:37] And they just said, she doesn't come out. [00:25:40] She's not leaving. [00:25:41] I go, I got a feeling this, this service company ain't got 24-7 on the house. [00:25:46] Then they hit me with like a huge bill. [00:25:48] And I go, well, I'm not going to pay until you get her served. [00:25:52] I hired a process server out of Cincinnati. [00:25:54] Me and her flew into town and we had her within an hour. [00:25:58] Wow. [00:25:58] Like we flew from Cincinnati to Sacramento because he said, don't fly into Oakland or San Fran because if somebody sees you, they could tip her off here in town. [00:26:06] We flew into Sacramento, got her rent a car. [00:26:09] We were driving through my neighborhood. [00:26:11] And right before we get to my neighborhood, there was a grocery store. [00:26:13] I looked to my left. [00:26:14] I swear to God, I saw our SUV. [00:26:16] I was like, that looks like ours. [00:26:18] And then we went to the house. [00:26:21] She wasn't there. [00:26:21] I still had the garage door opener. [00:26:23] So the garage came up and the car was there. [00:26:24] I go, let's go back to the grocery store. [00:26:26] It was her. [00:26:27] She was pulling out. [00:26:28] We followed her for about 15 miles on the highway. [00:26:30] And she pulled into a Panera Bread and she went through the drive-thru. [00:26:33] She got stuck. [00:26:35] And that's where we got her. [00:26:36] Wow. [00:26:36] The lady came out and I had to get on the other side and film it to video it. [00:26:40] So she never saw me. [00:26:41] She was so focused on the driver's side. [00:26:42] I'm right there, like filming the whole thing. [00:26:45] And then I got back in the car. [00:26:46] I was like, we freaking got her. [00:26:47] We freaking got her. [00:26:48] And then she goes, you got to get out of here because you can still get served today. [00:26:53] So I had to immediately go to the Oakland airport and I just walked in. [00:26:58] I'm literally walking down. [00:26:59] Southwest had a flight. [00:27:00] I was like, I just was walking down. [00:27:03] I would have been on spirit that day. [00:27:06] I just walked down. [00:27:06] Anybody got a flight out? [00:27:07] And I'm like, I didn't care where we went. [00:27:09] I didn't get out of California. [00:27:10] Yeah. [00:27:11] Southwest had a flight and just got on, dipped out. [00:27:13] And now things are okay. [00:27:15] What do you mean? [00:27:15] Like between you two? [00:27:16] Is that you're fully divorced? [00:27:18] Oh, yeah. [00:27:19] That's been over two and a half, three years. [00:27:21] Talking at all? [00:27:22] Not like that. [00:27:23] No. [00:27:24] No, no, no. [00:27:25] But my son's talking to me. [00:27:26] Yeah. [00:27:27] I was hesitant to ask because I know that was. [00:27:29] No, no, he's good now. [00:27:31] Oh, good. [00:27:31] He's been out to see the twins. [00:27:33] No way. [00:27:34] Oh, okay. [00:27:35] Makes me feel good. [00:27:36] Yeah, he's doing good. [00:27:37] Was that stressful when you were following her on the highway? [00:27:39] Were you nervous? [00:27:41] No, here's what's funny. [00:27:42] So I'm, the process server's driving, and she goes, you got to get in the back seat. [00:27:47] She might see you. [00:27:48] It was, it was, it was freaking a slate. [00:27:50] It was a bulldog. [00:27:52] So now I'm in the back. [00:27:53] I don't think you see me. [00:27:53] She goes, get down. [00:27:55] Get down, right? [00:27:56] So I don't know where we're at. [00:27:57] I'm just looking up. [00:27:59] She goes, she goes, I think she sees us. [00:28:01] I think she sees us. [00:28:02] I go, Shane, Shane, looking in the back for this Nissan Rogue. [00:28:08] So that's when we went to, we came to the stop. [00:28:12] She goes, all right, I need you to get up. [00:28:14] Get your phone out. [00:28:15] And then that's, I didn't even know where we was at. [00:28:16] I just got up and I was like, oh, Red Panera. [00:28:18] And boom. [00:28:19] See you laying down. [00:28:20] No disguise or anything? [00:28:21] I would have done like a mustache or something, right? [00:28:24] No, but if she, that was too much. [00:28:28] You got to catch my bar. [00:28:30] It's funny when you go through this for four months, though, you're always looking like, how is this going to end? [00:28:34] Because I remember when I was in West Virginia, I'd be walking around like, how does this end? [00:28:39] Did they get me? [00:28:40] Do I get her? [00:28:41] And then it was funny because I'm in West Virginia for a couple weeks at one point. [00:28:45] And I just was having like Stockholm Center. [00:28:48] I got to do something. [00:28:49] So I went through an Orange Theory. [00:28:50] Yeah, you know, in like Huntington, West Virginia, Orange Theory. [00:28:56] I was in the best shape. [00:28:57] I'll put it like that. [00:29:01] I just remember the lady saw my ID and then she, I'm trying to keep a low profile. [00:29:08] I'm thinking I'm good at this orange here. [00:29:09] The whole time she goes, you don't work out like this in California. [00:29:13] California ain't like that. [00:29:15] I was like, why the fuck are you keep saying my name is? [00:29:17] I'm trying to have a horror hair. [00:29:19] She looked like Olivia Newton John mixed with John Travolta. [00:29:25] She's real rough. [00:29:26] I'm sure she didn't have a boyfriend. [00:29:27] Oh my gosh. [00:29:29] The way you describe it almost sounds fun. [00:29:31] I'll be honest. [00:29:33] You want to serve? [00:29:34] Yeah, like I kind of want to do this. [00:29:36] It wasn't adventure. [00:29:36] Sounds like a Mr. Beast video. [00:29:39] You never get served first loses. [00:29:41] It is wild, though. [00:29:42] And I will say, it was very a male bonding experience because every guy that had been through a divorce reached out, like in my business. [00:29:51] Anthony Anderson reached out. [00:29:53] Kevin reached out. [00:29:54] Shaq reached out. [00:29:55] I feel like I'm named dropping, but they had all been through messy divorces. [00:29:58] And one of them said, I don't know if it was Shaq or Anthony because, you know, when you go through it, you're thinking, I'm about to be broke to hear all these horror stories. [00:30:07] I'm about to be working the rest of my life for somebody else. [00:30:10] And then one of them said, they said, look, if you get a chance to settle, settle. [00:30:16] Your talent won't allow you to go broke. [00:30:19] And I was like, it was very profound. [00:30:21] Yeah. [00:30:22] I was like, oh, then I was really ready to settle at that point. [00:30:25] But I also understand that feeling. [00:30:27] Like, you've worked your ass off for almost 30 years. [00:30:29] You've made a bunch of money. [00:30:31] And now you're faced with this dilemma. [00:30:32] You're like, I might have to pay all this money to an ex-wife. [00:30:36] And there goes my security blanket. [00:30:38] Now I'm back hustling. [00:30:39] Now I have to do this because I got to pay bills, not because I want to do it. [00:30:42] That changes everything. [00:30:43] Comedy is what? [00:30:44] 15 years before you start making money, 10, 12, whatever. [00:30:46] It's like, you're broke before that. [00:30:47] Also, alimony, like imagine you're paying something off the top. [00:30:51] You're paying 30%, whatever it is, before taxes. [00:30:54] Oh, we have some other stuff I didn't find out about until later, too. [00:30:57] What? [00:30:58] The IRS was coming, baby. [00:31:00] Oh, no. [00:31:01] I had no idea. [00:31:02] For her. [00:31:03] For her. [00:31:03] For we're married. [00:31:04] Oh, she's joint. [00:31:06] I was like, oh, I didn't know this was happening. [00:31:09] That's what scared me more than anything. [00:31:11] Yeah. [00:31:11] I was like, well, I got to work for the IRS and her. [00:31:14] Were women upset at you during this whole thing because it was public? [00:31:18] And I imagine a lot of them had went through similar things. [00:31:21] No, I think internet women, but real life women at the shows, they were sympathetic to you. [00:31:27] Best thing I ever heard was I had gone like a week and a half, two weeks. [00:31:30] I'm just reading the internet. [00:31:31] I'm holed up at that four seasons in Baltimore. [00:31:34] Terrifying. [00:31:35] My first show out the box. [00:31:37] I'm on stage about 45 minutes in, and the lady in the back goes, I love you, little cheating ass. [00:31:44] I'm going to end to hear that. [00:31:47] That was the only time I was nervous walking on stage in probably about 15, 20 years. [00:31:51] I didn't know how they were going to react to me. [00:31:53] Yeah, you thought the internet was real. [00:31:55] Yeah. [00:31:55] So you were going to walk on stage social media. [00:31:56] I'm thinking like food and garage. [00:31:58] Or you're going to see the dudes sympathetic and the women are like. [00:32:01] No. [00:32:02] I was like, oh, the internet is not real. [00:32:05] Why? [00:32:05] Why do you think that was? [00:32:06] Just because you're literally by yourself and you don't know who to trust. [00:32:10] Like you're getting. [00:32:13] She's finding shit out. [00:32:14] I'm like, how is she finding this out? [00:32:16] Yeah. [00:32:17] There was some shit she found out that only two or three people knew. [00:32:21] You got a mole, bro. [00:32:22] Yeah. [00:32:23] I found all of them out. [00:32:24] No, for real? [00:32:24] They're all right. [00:32:25] One of my openers was telling her shit. [00:32:27] Yeah. [00:32:27] Get the fuck out of here. [00:32:28] Yeah. [00:32:29] That's crazy. [00:32:30] Yeah. [00:32:31] How did he, how did she convert him? [00:32:34] I had already fired him the year before this came out. [00:32:38] And then he was like, okay. [00:32:39] So after the divorce came out, then they got in touch and he started giving her like all this shit. [00:32:44] Was she paying him to do it or he was just doing it off the strength of I hate you? [00:32:47] Yeah. [00:32:48] I don't know. [00:32:48] Damn. [00:32:49] I don't know. [00:32:49] But you can find him at a coffee shop. [00:32:53] You know what I mean? [00:32:54] Like, I still follow him. [00:32:55] Just be like, just to see where his life is. [00:32:58] How's that? [00:32:59] Damn. [00:32:59] How's that Gregory's coffee at 3 p.m. on a Sunday brunch show? [00:33:04] Bitch. [00:33:04] Well, it's good to know you're not vindictive. [00:33:08] I love it. [00:33:09] I love it. [00:33:10] You said it in a specialty. [00:33:10] You should like those posts. [00:33:16] You said in a special that after it got out to TMZ, that the DMs were crazy. [00:33:21] Yeah, that was a little nuts. [00:33:23] Wait, girls were sliding at DMs. [00:33:24] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:33:25] Once they knew that you were single? [00:33:26] Well, I don't know. [00:33:27] I guess it was a lot of people shooting their shot. [00:33:30] And it was all over the place. [00:33:31] Did you have ugly, pretty... [00:33:33] But did you have some fun once you got single? [00:33:35] Like, now you're married. [00:33:36] You're obviously a good, faithful husband. [00:33:38] I was having fun when I was married. [00:33:43] His throat's clear now. [00:33:44] I mean, just to be honest, it was very compartmentalized. [00:33:47] The road was the road, and home was home. [00:33:49] Bro, it was fun. [00:33:49] And so funny. [00:33:50] Bro, the way that you would do it was just so funny, bro. [00:33:54] I remember once we did a pod. [00:33:56] You remember back? [00:33:57] I know you're going. [00:33:57] You know, this was so... [00:34:01] This is when I found out Gary's not a white guy at all. [00:34:05] Because we did this pod. [00:34:06] He was telling me about his whole life. [00:34:07] It was beautiful. [00:34:08] It was inside jokes. [00:34:09] So we were doing it. [00:34:09] But it was a one-on-one really at that restaurant. [00:34:12] Yeah, Gillis Gillis. [00:34:13] And it was awesome. [00:34:14] And then I was like, you want to go grab a drink? [00:34:15] He's like, yeah, sure. [00:34:16] Let's go grab a drink. [00:34:17] I think, did you come as well? [00:34:18] Yeah, I think we went to go grab a drink. [00:34:20] And then Gary pulled up with a fine ass chick out of nowhere. [00:34:25] But didn't even give us a shit. [00:34:27] Didn't even mess me. [00:34:28] Yo, by the way, keep this low. [00:34:29] So now I'm sitting down like, is this his assistant? [00:34:31] Like, who is this fine ass girl? [00:34:33] She's like touching his shoulder. [00:34:35] I'm like, Gary, what the fuck did you just, you made me a liar? [00:34:38] Why are you going to make me fake you, but don't make me become sweat? [00:34:44] Bro, like, no heads up, nothing. [00:34:47] Like, I'm supposed to know. [00:34:48] Like, we all cheaters. [00:34:51] Bro, I should have given you a heads up. [00:34:52] Not even a text message. [00:34:54] Oh, man. [00:34:54] She's doing good now. [00:34:57] That was his assistant. [00:34:59] Assistant. [00:35:00] Yeah, it's fine. [00:35:01] She's like, what matters is that he's doing the weather in Detroit. [00:35:04] Bro. [00:35:08] I remember that too. [00:35:09] I was like, well. [00:35:10] Was there any part of you was like, I should probably just let Schultz know I'm a piece of shit? [00:35:15] No part of you at all. [00:35:17] I'm like, fuck it. [00:35:20] You're at that place where you, I've heard it and I didn't believe it. [00:35:23] You almost want to get caught. [00:35:25] Yeah. [00:35:26] Just to like, fucking, let's just end this. [00:35:28] Yeah. [00:35:29] So you get a little reckless towards the end. [00:35:31] And, you know, that was, I think that was like 2019. [00:35:33] That was early, yeah. [00:35:35] So I want to date it. [00:35:37] Well, the shit, the shit hit the fan in 2021 for me early. [00:35:41] So I never believed it, but I look at my behavior and I was like, yeah, I wanted to get caught. [00:35:47] I was, I was, I wasn't like PDA and I wasn't out there at parties bringing people, but I was like, I wasn't hiding it either. [00:35:55] Yeah. [00:35:55] Yeah. [00:35:55] So it was almost like, yeah. [00:35:57] I'm also curious, is there like an like a like an OG comic thing? [00:36:00] I feel like comics that were on the road in like 80s, 90s, because it was before social media, there was a little bit of a dual life that a lot of comics would do that you can't really do now. [00:36:09] I don't think it's just comics. [00:36:11] I think it's entertainers. [00:36:12] Yeah, I think that's pretty fair. [00:36:13] Like the rat pack? [00:36:14] Jesus. [00:36:14] But specifically, like comedians are on the road every single weekend. [00:36:18] So you have a life on the road and then you got a life at home. [00:36:21] And I think a lot of these guys before camera phones, before the internet, you know, before social media, you can kind of do whatever you wanted. [00:36:27] Yeah. [00:36:28] And there was girls in every city and you would go back to those cities and those girls were still there. [00:36:32] Yeah. [00:36:33] So yeah, you could see how that would definitely happen, especially if like things at home weren't great. [00:36:37] Yeah. [00:36:37] Comedians, man, you know, you get on the road in the beginning and you're getting attention, you're tapped in socially, and you've never had that before. [00:36:47] And you're just like, oh, I don't even have to talk to girls. [00:36:49] They're talking to me. [00:36:50] Yeah. [00:36:50] You know? [00:36:51] Yeah. [00:36:51] So it's, it's. [00:36:53] Why do you think that's not happening now? [00:36:55] I think it's still probably going on. [00:36:56] It's just, it's just easier to get caught up. [00:36:59] Yeah. [00:36:59] A girl posts on social media. [00:37:00] She's with you. [00:37:02] You know, she's tagging you in a picture. [00:37:04] Your girl's going, who the fuck is this bitch tagging you in a picture? [00:37:08] I think also part of it, I think that's mainly it, but a smaller part, a lot of times now comedians are making more money before they get on the road. [00:37:14] Whereas before, that's all you had. [00:37:15] So you had to only take you. [00:37:16] Now you can afford to take your boys. [00:37:18] So you're kind of just hanging out and you're not as inclined to go out and chase the night. [00:37:22] Where it's like, well, I'm with my homies, so I don't have to. [00:37:24] Otherwise, it's just you in some random fucking city in Toledo or wherever. [00:37:29] And it's like, what am I going to do? === Comedians Making Money Early (04:38) === [00:37:31] I'm just here alone. [00:37:32] Yeah, facts. [00:37:33] What do you think happens to Shannon, man? [00:37:35] Have you spoken to him since you guys close? [00:37:37] And we're cool, but not. [00:37:39] It's just, it's so weird. [00:37:40] Like, they know he's coming back in September. [00:37:43] Bro, I was shocked at how many people like immediately came out and shitted on him and shit on him. [00:37:48] It's kind of like, like, what do you think that's about? [00:37:51] I'm trying to wrap my head around that. [00:37:52] Because usually when there's an accusation from an OnlyFans girl, it's like, oh, this is some fake shit. [00:37:57] She just wants some money. [00:37:59] But with Shannon, the immediate response from like big media figures was, hey, what the hell are you doing? [00:38:06] You're fucked up. [00:38:07] Why are you doing this? [00:38:08] I don't listen. [00:38:08] I'm the last person to comment on someone's personal life. [00:38:11] Yeah, but also the best. [00:38:14] I've got experience here. [00:38:15] Yeah, I don't want to be the hypocrite. [00:38:17] No, you're not. [00:38:17] You're not. [00:38:19] Why do you think he's not getting more support? [00:38:21] That's what I'm saying. [00:38:22] I'm not. [00:38:22] Think about it. [00:38:23] It's very similar to stand-up. [00:38:24] Like, why do the guys that sell the most tickets, people like they shit on? [00:38:31] Like, as many people shit on Kevin. [00:38:33] And if you know Kevin, he's like, so literally one of the nicest guys on the planet. [00:38:36] Yeah. [00:38:37] And then you guys just shit on him. [00:38:38] And you're going, what is that? [00:38:40] That's because humans just, we have an issue with us. [00:38:42] That's what he's saying about it. [00:38:43] You kind of want that spot. [00:38:44] So Shannon was viewed as, but then there's people like, I saw Stephen A. Smith kind of talking shit. [00:38:51] And Stephen A. Smith is at the top. [00:38:53] Yeah, I don't know. [00:38:53] Did you see that? [00:38:54] But I think he wants to be the top top. [00:38:57] So he doesn't want even anybody second or third. [00:39:01] That's hate. [00:39:02] That's hating them. [00:39:03] Because if there is a human instinct, there's like jealousy and competitiveness, right? [00:39:08] And sometimes it clouds our judgment. [00:39:10] And we see it happen a lot. [00:39:11] You know, like you said, people hate on Kev when he's literally like the nicest, most supportive guy. [00:39:15] Yeah. [00:39:16] But if you're above somebody and hating on someone and like being super critical of somebody below you when they're not even convicted, that feels like hate right there. [00:39:24] Like, why are you even worried about what's happening? [00:39:26] I thought Shannon's pod was more successful. [00:39:27] So maybe he's like looking at him as but it's also clicks. [00:39:31] It's also like you talk about Shannon. [00:39:33] You're gonna like definitely clip it up. [00:39:36] You're gonna get numbers. [00:39:37] And I wonder if that was the guy, especially in that John, like, you know, Stephen A wants to comment on, you know, I don't know. [00:39:45] The Pope dying is not going to get the numbers of the Shannon Sharp scandal. [00:39:50] I think part of it is he's angling for president and he's got to be Tim A. Smith. [00:39:54] Yeah. [00:39:54] He's not getting the president. [00:39:55] No, he wants to run. [00:39:57] He wants to run. [00:39:57] You can tell he wants to run. [00:39:58] So if you want to run, you got to morally be like, how could you? [00:40:02] I also think that Shannon's show was. [00:40:04] You need a clean record to run nowadays. [00:40:06] Yeah. [00:40:07] But I also think like Shannon's show by design was like very clicky and like in a lot of ways toxic. [00:40:16] Like Shannon? [00:40:17] Yeah, Shannon's show. [00:40:17] Like you did the show. [00:40:19] It was crazy how the show was sports-based, but the comedians get the biggest numbers. [00:40:23] Oh, yeah. [00:40:24] Because comedians out here talking shit. [00:40:25] Yeah. [00:40:26] But like, I even remember when I was doing it, and I love Shannon. [00:40:28] Like, the team was brilliant the way they put it together. [00:40:30] It was like really boom. [00:40:31] There's a guy CJ's producing it. [00:40:32] They're like, they are fucking smart. [00:40:34] But like, there were moments where they stopped the interview and then CJ would hand him a card with questions that were going to be clickable videos and be like, here, just ask him these questions. [00:40:43] Shannon's reading a question. [00:40:44] He don't even know who he's talking about. [00:40:48] So it's like the show is designed to be clipped up and put on social media for those type of like more, let's call them messy, messy clips. [00:40:58] Yeah. [00:40:58] So I wonder if like you are promoting messiness when you're messy, people are less inclined to defend you. [00:41:07] Does that make sense? [00:41:08] I know what you're saying. [00:41:09] Kind of like Jerry Springer. [00:41:11] Yeah. [00:41:11] He's like, yo, if Jerry did some fuck shit, people are like, yo, why did you feel so bad for you? [00:41:16] You made a lot of money on people's fuck shit. [00:41:17] Yeah, Jerry wrote that. [00:41:18] He wrote the check to the hooker. [00:41:21] Oh, the bounce. [00:41:22] Oh, yeah. [00:41:22] When he was like mayor of Cincinnati. [00:41:24] Yeah, Cincinnati. [00:41:25] He was his mayor. [00:41:25] Yeah. [00:41:26] When I was growing up, every time we went, it was Jerry Springer everywhere. [00:41:29] When I grew up in Cincinnati, Jerry Springer was our mayor and George. [00:41:33] And George Clooney's dad was Channel 9 News. [00:41:37] He was the newscaster, Six O'Clock News. [00:41:39] I was like, This who knew? [00:41:43] And then Carmen Electra was the big booty chick. [00:41:47] No, Carmen Electra was the big booty chick with the bad teeth that used to dance at this place called Caddy's on Sunday. [00:41:53] Teenage Nightclub. [00:41:55] Prince came in town, scooped it. [00:41:56] She was gone. [00:41:58] And then, like, six months later, she's in a Prince video and her teeth were fixed. [00:42:01] I go, oh, shit. [00:42:02] She got her teeth fixed. [00:42:03] Aaron, I knew her. [00:42:05] Two of you had teeth? [00:42:07] These are, yeah, these aren't the first two. [00:42:09] But the rest are. === Teenage Nights In Cincinnati (03:05) === [00:42:10] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:42:10] Everybody got veneers now, huh? [00:42:12] This, well, this got knocked out in fifth grade. [00:42:14] Oh, no. [00:42:15] So this is fake. [00:42:16] Damn, what happened? [00:42:17] Last day of school. [00:42:19] Extra recess. [00:42:20] You were cheating on your girlfriend. [00:42:27] We ain't got enough equity in this relationship, bro. [00:42:35] I'm going to tell you what a dim hold opener, right? [00:42:39] I got to be serving chai soon. [00:42:44] That masha hour. [00:42:46] No. [00:42:47] They said, we got an extra recess last. [00:42:49] I went hauling ass like, yeah. [00:42:52] You know, those doors, the gym doors? [00:42:54] I didn't know it was locked. [00:42:55] No. [00:42:56] No. [00:42:57] And I had buck teeth. [00:42:58] They were like this. [00:42:59] You know, I did the joke. [00:43:01] Like, I went, I used to go to Catholic Church and the priest never messed with me. [00:43:05] And then I finally was messing with all the little boys. [00:43:07] And I was like, damn, you never fucked with me once. [00:43:10] I'm not letting that mouth hit my shit. [00:43:13] But once he lost the teeth, then he was like, that was an open goal. [00:43:19] That dude flew out. [00:43:21] All right, guys, let's take a break for a second. [00:43:23] One of the most unpatriotic things that I've ever seen is people that refuse to eat cereal outside of breakfast. [00:43:32] This is bullshit. [00:43:33] This is nonsense. [00:43:35] It is communism. [00:43:36] It's what our forefathers were fighting against. [00:43:40] It's not about tea. [00:43:41] It's about the ability to have a delicious bowl of cereal. [00:43:45] Ideally, highly packed with protein, zero sugar. [00:43:48] You know, the nice good things about modern-day Magic Spoon cereal. [00:43:54] Having that at any time of day is crucial to the American identity, to the American experience. [00:43:59] Okay. [00:44:00] Now, I know some of you are like, well, where am I going to get milk midday? [00:44:03] You don't need that because they have high-protein granola as well. [00:44:07] You could take with you. [00:44:08] Okay. [00:44:08] True to the Magic Spoon promise. [00:44:09] It's packed with protein. [00:44:11] It's so crunchy. [00:44:12] It's absolutely amazing. [00:44:13] Okay. [00:44:14] Okay. [00:44:14] Well, I don't want to carry a little thing of granola around. [00:44:16] Sure, they have the treats. [00:44:17] Magic Spoon's high-protein treats are crispy, crunchy, airy, and easy way to get 12 grams of protein on the go. [00:44:24] So now there's no excuses for you to live like a communist. [00:44:28] What you can do is be a proud American because they come in mouthwatering flavors like marshmallow, chocolate, peanut butter, and dark chocolate, things that don't exist in Europe. [00:44:36] You can't even find a marshmallow in Europe. [00:44:38] You can't find a dark chocolate in Asia. [00:44:41] Definitely not. [00:44:42] The point I'm trying to make here is Magic Spoon's brand new granola packs, 13 grams of protein and zero added sugars. [00:44:48] This is something the European mind could not even conceptualize. [00:44:52] Okay, don't even get me started about the rest of the world. [00:44:54] They come in delicious flavors like dark chocolate, almond, honey almond, and peanut butter. [00:44:59] Peanut butter is indigenous to America. [00:45:01] Did you know that? [00:45:02] Is that true? [00:45:03] Yeah, it is true. [00:45:04] Get $5 off your next order at magic spoon.com/slash flagrant or look for Magic Spoon on Amazon or in your nearest grocery store. [00:46:30] Could you tell the story about when you were filming your special and Floyd showed up? [00:46:35] Oh, yeah, yeah. [00:46:36] That was this is crazy. [00:46:38] 2011. [00:46:39] This is your first big Showtime. [00:46:42] Yeah, this is the one. [00:46:43] This is the one you've been working on. [00:46:44] I was like, all right, this should do well. [00:46:46] So let me let me set this up a little bit. [00:46:47] You're already percolating. [00:46:48] You're getting a lot of attention. [00:46:50] You have the man, we just got done filming it. [00:46:53] So think like it wasn't out yet. [00:46:54] But it's not out yet. [00:46:55] But even before that, you had some like big appearances. [00:46:57] Was it Deaf Comedy Cham? [00:46:58] No, no, no. [00:46:59] Mike Ebb's Life from the Nokia got a little buzz going again about it. [00:47:05] But you had some real buzz. [00:47:06] You had this opportunity to do a special with Showtime. [00:47:09] Right. [00:47:09] And this is at the time where like you either it was HBO or Showtime. [00:47:13] There was also a time where code black came out of nowhere and did the Shaq all-star comedy Kevin up. [00:47:20] That's yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:47:21] So code black hotspot. [00:47:24] It was a time where Def Jam was gone, Comic View was gone. [00:47:28] There was a lull. [00:47:29] The internet wasn't what it is now. [00:47:31] So there was people were like, where do we find stand-up? [00:47:33] So the Shaq show comes. [00:47:35] The Shaq shit blew Kevin out the water, basically, right? [00:47:39] And even though Cedric was on it, D-Ray was on it, Aries Pears was on it, but Kev was the one that really benefited the most off of that. [00:47:46] And so I was like, I remember I opened up for Mike in Houston. [00:47:50] Epsy? [00:47:51] Mike Epps in Houston. [00:47:53] And he goes, after the show, they go, hey, we're filming this thing Friday. [00:47:57] This is like Saturday. [00:47:59] Can you come in? [00:48:01] And I go, what is it? [00:48:02] And they go, we're doing this DVD that's going to be released and all the best spies and all that stuff. [00:48:07] And I go, all right. [00:48:08] And I go, well, how much? [00:48:11] And he was like, well, it's $2,500. [00:48:13] That's it. [00:48:14] There's no back end. [00:48:15] There's no hotel. [00:48:16] There's no flight. [00:48:17] Wow. [00:48:17] I was in Columbia, South Carolina. [00:48:19] I canceled it. [00:48:20] And all they said was, is Jeff Clan going to be there? [00:48:23] Because he was running Code Black. [00:48:25] He now, I think he runs Kevin's shit now. [00:48:27] So I was like, is he going to be there? [00:48:29] And then I go, if you promise me he watches my set, I'm in. [00:48:32] They go, we got you. [00:48:34] I get there. [00:48:36] I get there on a Friday. [00:48:37] People don't know that there was 10 acts. [00:48:39] They only aired like five of them. [00:48:41] Oh, wow. [00:48:42] Five got cut. [00:48:43] And so we're backstage and everybody's like arguing over who's going to go last. [00:48:48] And I go, I'll go last. [00:48:50] And everybody looked, I go, I'll go last. [00:48:52] I knew. [00:48:53] That's a great. [00:48:54] I knew I had, I never did the black church joke yet, which kind of like the black and white church. [00:49:00] I go, this, I've been doing it at clubs, but it hasn't been aired. [00:49:04] It was like bringing the house down. [00:49:06] Like one of my strongest problems. [00:49:07] So you had something in your pocket right there. [00:49:09] And the Tiger Woods shit just happened. [00:49:11] Where his wife beat me. [00:49:13] I had a fucking strong Tiger. [00:49:14] I said, if nothing else, they only want me to do 10, 15 minutes. [00:49:17] I think he ended up doing 20 because I went last. [00:49:20] I knew I had like eight that was just going to bring the roof down in the beginning and end. [00:49:26] So you could pick up. [00:49:27] Boom. [00:49:27] So I walk on the stage. [00:49:29] And you're kind of refreshing because you're probably the only, like you said, probably the only white guy there. [00:49:32] Yep. [00:49:33] So they've been seeing Black Dude Black. [00:49:34] And then this white dude pops up and you're kind of waking back up like, oh, shit. [00:49:38] It wasn't just that. [00:49:38] That was different. [00:49:40] It was nine comics doing dick pussy jokes. [00:49:43] And then I came out like, hey, you know, and what set the whole set off was Morris Chestnut was in the front row. [00:49:51] So I walked out. [00:49:52] I see Morris Chestnut and I go, hey, I go, oh, literally, I go, Morris. [00:49:57] And I go, hey, you guys ever watch Boys in the Hood and think Ricky's going to live? [00:50:01] And I said, you know, I said, I get so mad at you. [00:50:03] Every time I watch it, I go, you die every die. [00:50:07] Just so I'm like, stop eating the Twinkie, bro. [00:50:11] So you passed the test. [00:50:13] You're going in the army. [00:50:15] So resets the whole room. [00:50:16] Do live in the moment. [00:50:18] Right there. [00:50:18] Right, right, right. [00:50:19] And so Klan again saw me. [00:50:21] And then they sent me to Japan first. [00:50:24] He wasn't familiar. [00:50:25] So the Shaq was doing the tour. [00:50:27] So they was like, yo, they want to send you to Japan first to do a show. [00:50:32] And I go, so I went to Japan. [00:50:33] I think it was me, Mark Curry, Lunel, a couple other people. [00:50:35] Mark Curry. [00:50:36] Dude, Mark Curry is so fucking funny about that. [00:50:38] Oh, he's so good. [00:50:39] And then I guess the word got back. [00:50:41] No, he's solid. [00:50:42] He's got it. [00:50:43] Because he only saw 20 minutes. [00:50:44] Yeah, of course. [00:50:45] So then they put me on that Shaq tour of 2011. [00:50:49] And then they said, we're going to give you a special. [00:50:52] We got to deal with Showtime. [00:50:53] Okay, on the Shaq tour, who is your group that's going? [00:50:57] It was D-Ray, Michael Blackson, Corey Holcomb, me, and Capone. [00:51:05] I mean, five killers. [00:51:06] Absolutely killing. [00:51:07] Where are you going up in the show? [00:51:09] Right for Corey. [00:51:10] Corey closed it. [00:51:11] D-Ray hosted. [00:51:13] And then Michael Blackson and Capone flip-flopped. [00:51:15] Yeah. [00:51:16] Half the tour. [00:51:16] One would go first, one would go second. [00:51:18] And then I would go fourth, and then Corey would close it. [00:51:23] Yeah, strong. [00:51:24] So that was the great show. [00:51:25] Yeah. [00:51:26] It was a solid show. [00:51:27] And all of us kind of did our own thing after it ended. [00:51:29] And then, so they gave me the special. [00:51:32] So I'm in Vegas. [00:51:34] I mean, we stopped filming Think Like a Man like two weeks before I'm filming this. [00:51:38] It's at the Mandalay Bay. [00:51:40] And I just remember I'm on stage. [00:51:42] It's sold out, but there's literally in the front two empty rows. [00:51:47] And I'm going, why aren't they filling this? [00:51:49] Keep in mind. [00:51:50] This is a theater. [00:51:50] So rows are 20, that's 10, 20 seats. [00:51:53] So just easy. [00:51:54] Easy. [00:51:54] Mandalay Bay in the big theater there. [00:51:56] I'm like, why is this so weird? [00:51:58] Why aren't they filling this in? [00:51:59] I don't know. [00:52:00] Floyd has called and said, I'm coming. [00:52:02] I don't care if there's a special. [00:52:04] Floyd shows up. [00:52:05] Floyd's the champ at this point. [00:52:06] Yeah, he runs Vegas. [00:52:08] He runs Vegas. [00:52:08] He's bringing a billion dollars every single time he does a fight. [00:52:11] I'm on stage and I see I'm 30, 40 minutes in. [00:52:16] And a commotion happens. [00:52:18] It's like, there's like all these people just, I thought a fight happened. [00:52:21] Like, what was going on? [00:52:22] And then it starts coming towards me. [00:52:23] And I'm going, what the fuck is happening? [00:52:25] You know, Floyd's a little guy. [00:52:26] Yeah. [00:52:26] He's in the middle of these big body cards. [00:52:28] And I'm going, what's going on? [00:52:31] And then I see Floyd, oh, Floyd. [00:52:33] And then I just started talking to him and his entourage for about 15 minutes. [00:52:37] And then they kept like five of it in the special. [00:52:39] That's great. [00:52:39] That's all. [00:52:40] Which is completely in the middle of it. [00:52:42] I'm like, all right. [00:52:44] But it worked out. [00:52:45] A lot of people who haven't taped something don't know. [00:52:47] Like when you're taping anything, it could be a 10-minute set. [00:52:49] It could be an hour set. [00:52:50] Like, you're kind of in like performance mode, right? [00:52:53] It's hard to do. [00:52:54] You're an autopilot. [00:52:54] You're an autopilot, right? [00:52:55] You're just like, I need to make sure I get these jokes right. [00:52:57] And every time you do a joke, it doesn't go as good as it did in fucking Portland. [00:53:01] You're like thinking about it and editing in your head. [00:53:03] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:53:03] And then 20 people walk in 40 minutes into your phone. [00:53:07] First, 40 people walk. [00:53:08] Sorry, 40 people. [00:53:10] To stay in the moment is very ballsy, but like that's a really a lot of people just ignore it. [00:53:16] Yeah. [00:53:16] And try to muscle through. [00:53:19] That's a courageous thing to do. [00:53:20] But you do it because you got chops. [00:53:22] That's the thing. [00:53:22] Like you've done a lot of shows where people are walking in in the middle. [00:53:25] Yeah. [00:53:26] You know what I mean? [00:53:26] Like if you go in that shack tour, if you went up first or second slot, people are still walking in. [00:53:31] Yeah, yeah, true, true, true. [00:53:32] You know what I'm saying? [00:53:33] And that's the first time I met Floyd. [00:53:35] That's the crazy part. [00:53:36] Oh, that's not that he told you he was coming. [00:53:37] No, I didn't. [00:53:39] They told me he's coming, but at any time he's going to come in the middle of my set, the promoters are like, yo, well, we got the call, Floyd's coming. [00:53:47] Yeah. [00:53:48] I was like, oh, hey, there it is. [00:53:49] Look at all them people. [00:53:50] Did you see it? [00:53:53] Metal and special. [00:53:55] They're just taking, it took over. [00:53:57] I mean, yeah, that's like a nightmare scenario. [00:53:59] Look at that. [00:54:00] Nightmare. [00:54:02] And they're all in the front. [00:54:04] It is a nightmare, but it's also an amazing look. [00:54:06] Right? [00:54:07] To have Floyd Mayweather co-sign you. [00:54:09] If you're watching this at home and you're like, oh, who's this Gary Owens guy? [00:54:12] You know? [00:54:12] And then all of a sudden they see Floyd walk in and sit down. [00:54:15] You're like, oh, shit. [00:54:16] Why is he doing S on there? [00:54:18] Because it's Gary Owens. [00:54:20] That's what they're thinking. [00:54:21] But then just have Floyd sit down and start laughing. [00:54:23] Like, I mean, that's right. [00:54:24] That's something people don't know. [00:54:25] Yeah. [00:54:26] Right on the other side, Wiki Wright was there. [00:54:28] Oh, so then Wiki was there, and then Floyd came in too. [00:54:31] In the moment, did you know, oh, this is going to play amazing, or were you a little no? [00:54:35] You're just kind of going with it. [00:54:37] Okay. [00:54:37] You're just kind of winging it. [00:54:38] Were you roasting him at all? [00:54:40] I just told him about the Grand Rapids. [00:54:42] I said, I appreciate bringing all the Grand Rapids. [00:54:44] You know what I mean? [00:54:45] Oh my God. [00:54:46] I said, if you're in Grand Rapids right now, commit some crimes. [00:54:50] There's no store owners. [00:54:52] There's no police officers. [00:54:54] Does he have a good sense of humor? [00:54:55] Yeah. [00:54:56] Here's a good thing about Floyd. [00:54:57] I'll tell you this. [00:54:58] If I'm in Vegas and he's in town, there's no phone calls made. [00:55:02] He always comes and he buys tickets, as far as I know. [00:55:05] I don't get the phone call saying Floyd's coming. [00:55:07] Can you leave tickets? [00:55:08] Wow. [00:55:08] Wow. [00:55:08] He's there. [00:55:09] Or I know for a fact when I did SLS, he bought them because I was on a door deal and we put the show together on like three weeks' notice and it was not sold out. [00:55:23] So when I got the ticket counts, I go, We had a hell of a walk-up. [00:55:26] And then I was like, oh, there's Floyd again coming through the club. [00:55:29] That's great. [00:55:29] Did he talk to you after this? [00:55:30] Yeah, he came backstage. [00:55:32] That's where we met. [00:55:32] And what was the vibe? [00:55:34] Like back to the bus. [00:55:34] He was real quiet. [00:55:35] He was real quiet. [00:55:36] Can I get a picture? [00:55:37] Was pretty much it. [00:55:38] Wow. [00:55:39] But he's been cool ever since. [00:55:40] So he turns it up. [00:55:41] He likes turns it on when the camera's on, in other words. [00:55:44] Oh, well, then we started Think Like a Man 2 the next year in Vegas. [00:55:49] And that's where I got to know him because he asked me to come by. [00:55:53] They were going to go out one night and he asked me to come by the house. [00:55:56] Like, all right. [00:55:57] Me being the white guy, I literally showed up at the time he told me to come. [00:56:01] And nobody there, bro. [00:56:03] Like, it's me and me and two of my boys. [00:56:06] Like, why are we here so early? [00:56:07] Floyd was getting a massage, bro. [00:56:09] But he was on the massage tables. [00:56:11] And he's like, it was just how you think of Floyd Manywither for his reason. [00:56:14] The girls just massage his shit. [00:56:17] And he's like, hey, what's up, G? [00:56:19] I go, hey, how are you doing? [00:56:20] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:56:21] He says, yeah, yeah, it's me, West Sit, right here. [00:56:23] Midwest shit. [00:56:25] Still talking. [00:56:26] I'm like this. [00:56:28] What is happening? [00:56:29] Then he got a haircut. [00:56:31] I think it's the haircut. [00:56:33] And the girl's kind of like, we're way too early. [00:56:38] But here's the best part. [00:56:39] This is a pretty woman moment. [00:56:41] We're there, and then it gets crowded. [00:56:43] Then an hour later, it's crowded. [00:56:45] And then everybody's going to the palms to go to some nightclub. [00:56:48] And Floyd doesn't drink. [00:56:49] So people think he's out partying. [00:56:51] He might be out, but he's partying. [00:56:53] It's all water. [00:56:55] And I'm not exaggerating. [00:56:57] 10 limos pull up and people just start getting in the limos. [00:57:00] And we're all going to this nightclub. [00:57:02] And we get in limo with like me and my boys just having to get a limo with like three girls that just jumped in that barely spoke English. [00:57:10] So now we're sitting there and they're not talking to us. [00:57:14] They're not trying to entertain us. [00:57:15] And we're trying to be nice. [00:57:17] Yeah. [00:57:17] And then nothing. [00:57:19] We get to the party. [00:57:20] We can't get in. [00:57:21] It's too crowded. [00:57:22] One, it was off. [00:57:23] It was like a Saturday. [00:57:24] It was in Vegas already. [00:57:25] And then Floyd's coming with 150 people. [00:57:27] Yeah. [00:57:28] We're not getting it, even though we're with Floyd. [00:57:30] I said, let's go to another spot. [00:57:31] So the girls, we looked at her, said, You want to go with us? [00:57:33] And they're like, no. [00:57:35] And it was very apparent. [00:57:36] No, we're not. [00:57:37] We're going to fight our way and we will eventually get to Floyd tonight. [00:57:41] Right? [00:57:42] Monday, we're on set of Think Like a Man 2. [00:57:45] They're extras in the movie. [00:57:47] We had a pool scene and they hired these pretty girls to be around the pool. [00:57:51] I looked at them. [00:57:52] I go, oh shit. [00:57:54] You know, I walked by. [00:57:55] How you doing? [00:57:56] You got my trailer where it's cooler than this studio where I can sweat in private. [00:58:06] Have fun in this 110-degree weather, motherfucker. [00:58:09] Wow. [00:58:10] I want to know early tour stories. [00:58:12] Like, yeah, the first 10 years that you're in the game. [00:58:15] Like, are you, are you? [00:58:19] How early? [00:58:19] Are you ever with like some of the goats? [00:58:23] Okay, when I started in San Diego, I was doing two different circuits. [00:58:28] I had the black circuit and then I had the mainstream circuit. [00:58:30] The mainstream was Bobby Lee. [00:58:32] Yep. [00:58:32] Darren Carter. [00:58:33] I remember Bobby Lee Star. [00:58:36] Yeah, me and Bobby Lee used to sit at Denny's and he'd always have the notebook and he's writing, writing, writing. [00:58:41] I don't believe that. [00:58:43] I don't believe that. [00:58:44] And then he was the first one out of the open mic crew at the comedy store that got the break, so to speak. [00:58:52] Paulie came. [00:58:53] Paulie Short came down. [00:58:55] His mom was with the Mitzi and they, and all of a sudden, Bobby went to Vegas with Polly. [00:59:01] He came back down and we're waiting. [00:59:03] Like, what's it like? [00:59:04] What's it like? [00:59:05] And then Bobby goes, he tells this whole fucking lie I found out 20 years later. [00:59:09] He goes, oh my God, dude, I was doing Paulie. [00:59:11] And then afterwards, Missy says she's going to make me a paid regular at the comedy store. [00:59:15] He goes, and then I met these two girls and we went back to my room and they handcuffed me to my bed and they robbed me. [00:59:22] He goes, I go, what? [00:59:24] So he said they tied him up and he was naked and the clean ladies had to let him go. [00:59:30] The clean ladies came in the next day and got him. [00:59:32] I believed this story for 20 years. [00:59:34] Then I went on a tiger belly. [00:59:36] He told me it was a lie. [00:59:36] I go, you motherfucker. [00:59:39] No, he had us at Denny. [00:59:41] He's like, I've put the grand slam down, bro. [00:59:46] So the girls, they just fuck you like that. [00:59:49] Fuck it like that. [00:59:50] That's what I was thinking. [00:59:51] Like, oh my God, I got to really, I got to get on the road. [00:59:56] And then, but on the black side, it was Nick Cannon. [01:00:01] He was doing all the roads because Nick was in a rap group called Bomb Squad. [01:00:05] Okay. [01:00:06] And so I didn't. [01:00:07] He had to describe his comedy group perfectly. [01:00:09] Jesus Christ. [01:00:10] That's so wrong. [01:00:12] That's so wrong. [01:00:14] I'm glad you did. [01:00:17] He's a good guy. [01:00:21] He's put a lot of people on. [01:00:23] Yes. [01:00:23] I was all winding up. [01:00:24] That's why we would make these jokes. [01:00:25] He wouldn't care. [01:00:26] That's why I feel good. [01:00:28] We need to turn off the AC or something. [01:00:30] Go on. [01:00:32] So Nick was in a rap group. [01:00:34] And I remember Magic Johnson had the talk show called The Magic Out. === Nick Cannon And Comedy Groups (14:20) === [01:00:37] Yes. [01:00:38] And Magic's people saw me at the comedy store one night. [01:00:43] And he went back to Magic and said, I just saw the funniest white guy on the planet. [01:00:46] Magic Johnson said that. [01:00:47] His guy said that. [01:00:48] So Magic came to see me the next week. [01:00:51] Fat Tuesday, people don't remember. [01:00:52] Fat Tuesday put so many people on back in the Tuesday night guy Tori's spot. [01:00:56] Like people were getting discovered on it. [01:00:57] You bombed my dick off in that room. [01:00:59] Did you? [01:00:59] Totally. [01:01:00] Wait a minute. [01:01:01] Oh, dog, this happened to me so many times early on. [01:01:03] I'm like halfway through bombing and then one guy just comes up there, runs the show, walks on stage, he just goes, give me the mic. [01:01:09] And I was like, hey, okay. [01:01:12] That's where I got more shit up there. [01:01:15] It was comedy store. [01:01:17] The man of it. [01:01:18] He had the Fat Tuesday. [01:01:20] P-H-A-T. [01:01:21] Those tripping on Tuesday. [01:01:21] So it was tripping on Tuesday when I got it. [01:01:23] They changed it. [01:01:24] And then it went back to Fat Tuesday. [01:01:25] Crazy, it was Fat Tuesday. [01:01:26] Yeah, I got it. [01:01:27] That's where Jamie Fox saw me and got me an audition for Held Up. [01:01:30] Oh, wow. [01:01:31] I was there. [01:01:31] And Aries might say that didn't happen. [01:01:35] I was there. [01:01:36] I saw the set that got Aries Mad TV because they were there. [01:01:40] The Fox people was there. [01:01:41] Oh, wow. [01:01:41] The execs. [01:01:42] Yeah. [01:01:43] So I saw Leslie Jones go up when Chris Rock saw her and ripped that night. [01:01:48] I was like, you look back, you're like, I was there for some like historical moments. [01:01:52] The set that Aries gets mad TV. [01:01:54] Yeah. [01:01:56] I remember the joke that killed it. [01:01:57] He had a Michael Jackson joke where he was in a wheelchair. [01:02:00] And he said, what if, you know, Michael Jackson's in a wheelchair and he does the whole, he imitates him so good. [01:02:05] And then he'd be like, and then he flips over, act like he turned the chair this way and this way, but he's still performing. [01:02:10] I'm fucking up the joke. [01:02:11] Sure, sure, sure. [01:02:12] But that's the joke that he closed with every night. [01:02:15] Every time he did a show, he was going to close with that. [01:02:17] It killed. [01:02:17] He's wildly talented. [01:02:19] Yeah. [01:02:19] Aries is wildly talented. [01:02:21] Yeah, his imitations. [01:02:22] Unbelievable. [01:02:24] So Nick, I'm literally, I'm doing, I got, I'm at my apartment and I'm dubbing VHS tapes to try to give the Magics people because I got nothing. [01:02:35] I don't have any, I don't have any clips. [01:02:36] Yeah. [01:02:37] I'm not on TV yet. [01:02:38] Yeah. [01:02:38] So it's like bad audio, bad video. [01:02:42] And I'm trying to clip this five-minute set to give the Magics people. [01:02:47] And Nick shows up with his manager at the time. [01:02:51] His name was Samir Tomah. [01:02:52] I remember Sam. [01:02:54] And then Nick goes, what are you doing? [01:02:55] I go, Magic Johnson saw me, bro. [01:02:57] I said, I might get it on his talk show. [01:03:00] And I'm all fired up. [01:03:01] And Nick goes, man, I should do stand-up. [01:03:05] And I go, you should. [01:03:06] Yeah, you should. [01:03:08] And then the next week, we have this place called Mr. O's on Wednesday night. [01:03:12] It was a big urban black comedy night. [01:03:14] And Nick went up there and did nothing but comic view jokes. [01:03:18] And I go, Nick, you can't do that. [01:03:20] That's somebody else's joke. [01:03:21] He goes, yeah, I saw it last night. [01:03:22] It was funny. [01:03:24] He just didn't know. [01:03:25] It wasn't like he was out and out stealing. [01:03:27] He did not know. [01:03:28] I said, no, no, you got to do your own jokes. [01:03:30] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:03:31] Then less than a year later, we went up to Oakland for the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition, and Nick had like a solid six, and that's all you got. [01:03:41] And he was clean, he was young, good-looking dude. [01:03:45] And that's when the all that people saw him. [01:03:50] He either got the semifinals or the finals. [01:03:53] And then, you know, he kind of was doing a warm-up. [01:03:56] This is a time before the internet. [01:03:58] Like now, the internet is used to like search for talent, right? [01:04:01] Like you almost kind of wait for a comic to prove themselves on the internet. [01:04:04] But before you had to see somebody live, so there was all this tension when like somebody special was in the room because your whole career could change in seven minutes. [01:04:12] Yeah. [01:04:13] At the mercy of somebody else. [01:04:15] Simple as that. [01:04:15] Somebody likes you and like, I'm going to go with him. [01:04:17] But so the anxiety, just imagine that. [01:04:19] Like it's already nerve-wracking, I'm sure, when you go up at like a big club on a big night when there's a full crowd. [01:04:24] You want to do well. [01:04:25] But imagine you go up and you know that, shit, Damon Waynes is in the or Keenan Ivory's in the audience. [01:04:33] You're like, that's it. [01:04:33] My career is dead. [01:04:34] I'm in movies now. [01:04:35] I'm in TV shows. [01:04:36] They'll develop something around me. [01:04:37] Yeah, it's crazy how it happens. [01:04:40] I had a TV deal with Quincy Jones and it was like the, it was like the best six months of just sitting back listening to like a historian tell stories about Frank Sinatra, Orson Welles, Billy Holiday. [01:04:53] He was there. [01:04:54] And he's not lying. [01:04:55] Yeah. [01:04:56] And we had a TV show that didn't go anywhere. [01:04:59] It didn't go. [01:05:00] Oh my God. [01:05:01] I remember we went to the ABC office and we're waiting in the lobby to go in and pitch this TV show and Quincy starts talking about strip clubs in France. [01:05:09] And that was the conversation. [01:05:10] He goes, yeah. [01:05:12] And then usually when they say, all right, you guys want to come back? [01:05:14] Usually most people stop the conversation and now we're in the pitch of TV show mode. [01:05:17] No, Quincy's still telling me the story as we walk into the room. [01:05:21] Both execs at ABC are gay as shit. [01:05:24] And I'm going, and then Quincy Leary, he's ignoring them. [01:05:27] He goes, yeah, it's like, friends, different, they like the jazz. [01:05:31] The girls strip the jazz. [01:05:33] And then he goes, he goes, you guys ever been to strip clubs in France? [01:05:36] They were like, no. [01:05:37] Oh, I love this. [01:05:38] And then he was like, they were like, I got it. [01:05:39] I love this. [01:05:40] We're not getting this show. [01:05:42] We pitched that show to this nothing. [01:05:45] Usually when execs say no, it's a day or so. [01:05:49] I wasn't at my car. [01:05:51] They're like, my manager already calling, yeah, they're passed. [01:05:54] And I go, big shock. [01:05:57] That means we left and they go, we're done. [01:05:59] I knew it was over with the minute he said you've been to strip clubs in France. [01:06:03] 2000? [01:06:03] 2000. [01:06:04] So you're like, go ahead. [01:06:05] What about like horror gigs? [01:06:06] Did you, because you got success quite early? [01:06:10] Did you ever go through that stretch where you're doing the $1,500 weekends? [01:06:16] Oh, yeah, yeah. [01:06:17] First rogue gig I ever got was a comic strip in El Paso. [01:06:21] And they paid me 500 bucks and I had to get there. [01:06:24] And it was like Wednesday through Sunday. [01:06:25] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:06:26] So I was in the Navy. [01:06:28] So I drove from San Diego to El Paso. [01:06:32] And it was the easiest drive ever because I was like, oh, shit. [01:06:35] Because that's this a time you had to mail your headshot in, send a VHS tape, fax over a fake resume that I made up. [01:06:44] I had nothing. [01:06:45] I remember I said I opened up for Jim Carrey for a cancer benefit. [01:06:50] Everything was a lie. [01:06:53] You know what I mean? [01:06:54] And then, so I get to El Paso and it said they got a comic condo thing where all three comics are in the same thing. [01:07:00] I took the big bedroom, not knowing the headliners coming, do that headliner show. [01:07:04] He goes, bruh, get out. [01:07:06] I was like, oh, shit, sorry. [01:07:07] So I go in the other room. [01:07:08] I didn't have a lot of money. [01:07:10] So this is how I survived. [01:07:11] I went to the grocery store. [01:07:12] I got cocoa puffs and a gallon of milk. [01:07:16] That's breakfast for the week. [01:07:18] Arby's had the $2 beef and cheddars. [01:07:21] So that was lunch. [01:07:22] And then you eat at the comic club and you bring it back for your late night food. [01:07:25] I was like, dude, I was $20 in food. [01:07:28] I came back to the good. [01:07:29] I remember thinking, oh my God, how do these comedy clubs make money? [01:07:36] I remember my first comedy club headline gig after Comic View. [01:07:41] I remember with my agent's office. [01:07:44] He goes, Yeah, we got something club in Dayton. [01:07:47] They're paying you $4,000. [01:07:49] I go, Holy shit, man. [01:07:52] I was like, this club might shut down. [01:07:56] How do you pay me? [01:07:57] He's like going out of business. [01:07:59] That's crazy. [01:08:00] It was 4-4. [01:08:01] It was $4,000 and $400 for travel. [01:08:04] I was like, what? [01:08:06] Yeah. [01:08:06] Four hours for a flight? [01:08:08] Yeah. [01:08:08] Holy shit, bro. [01:08:10] What about any guys that you open for that, like to this day, you're like, I've never seen anybody kill like that? [01:08:16] Or any guy you've been on the road? [01:08:17] And they don't have to be big famous guys. [01:08:19] They can be. [01:08:20] The guy when I first started in LA and was open mic and was Pablo Francisco. [01:08:25] Just destroyed. [01:08:26] No, I wanted to follow that dude. [01:08:29] I'd seen him do the Latino night, the white knight, the black knight, and he was the only guy that killed all of them. [01:08:38] Impressions. [01:08:39] Well, he had the movie voice. [01:08:40] He could do the movie voice to Arl Schwarzenegger at the time where he was like little tortilla boy. [01:08:45] And it was the same bit. [01:08:47] Still waited to see it. [01:08:49] It was like, oh my God. [01:08:50] Impressions have that longevity. [01:08:52] It's like a, in a way, it's almost like you're watching magic, right? [01:08:55] Because it's like, and that is sometimes the downfall is like, if you're really good at impressions, like you don't actually have a joke. [01:09:01] We're kind of just laughing. [01:09:02] You're like, oh, yeah, you sound like that famous guy. [01:09:04] You look like that. [01:09:05] But the guys that can do it with a joke. [01:09:07] That's what made Eddie so impressive. [01:09:09] He could do everything. [01:09:09] Eddie could write the bit that even if he didn't do the impression, you'd still laugh at. [01:09:13] And he just was so amazed by Eddie. [01:09:15] He was like 21. [01:09:16] He was 21. [01:09:17] He was a kid. [01:09:18] Yeah. [01:09:19] And in the one special, we ended with the burger, the burger joke, like how his mom made the burger with the peppers in it. [01:09:25] I go, that's your closer? [01:09:27] Yeah. [01:09:27] Look back on that. [01:09:28] You're like, usually the closer is like kind of raw, rugged, something. [01:09:31] No, it's just putting peppers in a burger. [01:09:34] I'm like, what the fuck was that? [01:09:36] No, that would have been my first joke. [01:09:37] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:09:39] Okay. [01:09:39] So you're going through this. [01:09:41] You're getting success. [01:09:41] You're starting to make some money. [01:09:42] And then you're headlining on your own. [01:09:44] You're not really opening for other guys. [01:09:45] Like, it was pretty quick assessment. [01:09:47] Yeah, I didn't headline. [01:09:48] I didn't, I didn't have the traditional feature for people because I was in the Navy when I started. [01:09:54] I was on BET and in the Navy at the same time. [01:09:57] Wow. [01:09:57] So how it happened was I was starting to stand up. [01:10:00] I knew that's what I wanted to do. [01:10:02] I was going up like six days a week. [01:10:05] Anywhere that, I mean, I was making, there was a karaoke night at a place called El Torito. [01:10:10] I would go up and not sing. [01:10:12] I do jokes. [01:10:13] It got to the point where people knew to get quiet when I walked up because they go, oh, this is the funny dude. [01:10:17] He's about to tell some jokes. [01:10:18] No way. [01:10:18] The first couple weeks, it was rough because they were paying attention, but I just wanted to get on stage and I didn't know where to go. [01:10:24] So I go, wait, if they got a microphone, they got a little stage. [01:10:27] I'll just start telling jokes. [01:10:28] And then it got to the point where literally the host of the car goes, ah, y'all, you know, he's here. [01:10:34] It was like that type of vibe. [01:10:35] And then karaoke is very the same people every week. [01:10:38] Yeah. [01:10:38] So it really helped me because I had to kind of do new shit every week, too. [01:10:42] Of course. [01:10:43] So it was kind of a dope thing. [01:10:46] But I'm driving in my truck and they say, we're looking for the funniest black comedian in San Diego. [01:10:53] So I called in and I didn't say I was black or I wasn't black. [01:10:57] I just, I put a little bass in my voice. [01:11:00] What's up? [01:11:01] This is the contest? [01:11:02] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:11:03] I want to enter that shit. [01:11:05] They were like, what's your name, Gary? [01:11:08] So I entered, I won. [01:11:10] And then that's actually where I met Nick because he rapped. [01:11:14] He rapped on the show. [01:11:15] His manager got him on there. [01:11:16] And that first place got you an audition for Comic View. [01:11:20] Got it. [01:11:20] So I auditioned for Comic View. [01:11:22] I got on. [01:11:23] I'm still in the Navy. [01:11:25] So they used to film the whole season in a week. [01:11:28] It was Monday through Friday. [01:11:29] They did three or five episodes a day. [01:11:32] So, and it was a contest. [01:11:33] You just kept moving on. [01:11:35] So, I just kept moving on every day. [01:11:37] I took a week's leave. [01:11:38] I won my rounds. [01:11:41] Like, so I got an hour special. [01:11:43] So, I had been on stand-up less than a year, and I had this hour special. [01:11:47] Wow. [01:11:47] And I wish they would replay it because I know it's got to be brutal because you only had to do 44 minutes with commercials. [01:11:54] Yeah. [01:11:55] And it was so slow and pace because I didn't have four minutes. [01:11:58] You got 24 minutes. [01:12:00] I waited until every last and then had to be silent. [01:12:06] I was so paced. [01:12:08] Yeah. [01:12:09] That clock just was moving so slow. [01:12:12] Holy shit. [01:12:13] I got two jokes. [01:12:14] I've got a 28. [01:12:15] So they call me. [01:12:17] They call me like six months later. [01:12:19] Curtis Gatson was the head of BET at the time. [01:12:22] He goes, He's like, Curtis Guess wants to meet with you. [01:12:24] I drive back up to LA and he goes, Yeah, we make it. [01:12:27] We want to make you the host. [01:12:29] And I went, What? [01:12:30] So they want me to make me the host of Comic View. [01:12:32] I'm still in the Navy. [01:12:34] Wow. [01:12:34] So BET doesn't know I'm in the Navy. [01:12:36] Obviously, the Navy doesn't know I'm doing stand-up, but it was a funny thing because I don't have cable and so I don't know I'm airing. [01:12:43] So I'm on the base waving cars on the base and a brother would be like, Motherfucker, would you on TV last time? [01:12:50] Yeah, yeah, have a good day, man. [01:12:52] So I'm like, wait, am I on TV? [01:12:55] And then I would go out to like, you know, Burger King or something. [01:12:58] And someone be like, were you on TV? [01:12:59] I had no idea I was airing. [01:13:02] And I was like, kept getting stopped. [01:13:03] I was like, why would you want to fucking stop me? [01:13:05] What was it like back in the day when there were fewer channels and you had something pop on TV? [01:13:11] Dude, you make me sound 18 as fuck right now. [01:13:15] I'm not trying to make you sound old because I remember like Geico days when there were just fewer things to watch. [01:13:21] Yeah. [01:13:22] So when people were watching a show, you felt it on the street. [01:13:25] Yeah, for real. [01:13:26] Like I remember just walking around certain areas, especially like tourist areas in New York City. [01:13:29] If you're in Times Square, it was like, it felt like every person within an age demographic had watched the show. [01:13:35] Yeah. [01:13:35] With the internet now, it's different. [01:13:37] Like with the internet, there's little echo chambers. [01:13:40] So you'll be walking down the street. [01:13:41] Somebody recognizes you. [01:13:42] Somebody's like, I don't even know who the fuck that is. [01:13:43] It's divided. [01:13:44] But back in the day, it was like, if you watched comedy and you watched BET, you watched Comic View. [01:13:51] Yeah. [01:13:52] So you didn't miss it. [01:13:53] Yeah. [01:13:54] So you would instantly feel it. [01:13:56] Yeah. [01:13:56] Does that make sense? [01:13:57] Yeah. [01:13:57] I went from like never be on the road to being asked to headline immediately. [01:14:03] So I didn't have the grind of featuring for somebody. [01:14:06] Yeah. [01:14:07] Like I was kind of just thrust into it. [01:14:09] That was kind of similar to my journey. [01:14:11] Like I didn't have a long time where I was going and featuring for you. [01:14:14] Yeah, I did. [01:14:15] I mean, that's the beauty of stand-up. [01:14:17] You ask 100 comics, everybody, they're going to give me 100 different stories. [01:14:19] Yeah. [01:14:20] You know, I just had to get out of the Navy. [01:14:23] Did anyone? [01:14:23] I couldn't go on the road. [01:14:24] Did any of them know, like any of your close Navy friends know that you were doing stand-up? [01:14:27] Like on the side? [01:14:28] Yeah, I mean, that's how I got to do all the quote-unquote black rooms. [01:14:31] I'd be telling people like on the base, like, I'll do stand-up. [01:14:34] And the black guys would be like, you can go here or you can go here. [01:14:36] I don't care. [01:14:37] A lot of white comics didn't want to go there because it wasn't a bad area. [01:14:40] But I was like, I just want to tell jokes. [01:14:41] Did it cause any tension once it premiered and once it aired and everyone knew? [01:14:45] BET? [01:14:46] Like with the Navy, like where they're like with your superiors or what you can't be doing, dude. [01:14:50] I had good thing I had black chiefs, black bosses that were watching it. [01:14:55] These motherfuckers looked out. [01:14:57] They loved it. === Leaving The Navy For Stand-Up (03:34) === [01:14:58] Yo, when I tell you, my last three months, I wasn't showing up for work. [01:15:03] All they said was you got you show up Monday morning. [01:15:05] Yeah. [01:15:06] Don't get nothing pierced. [01:15:08] Keep your hair cut. [01:15:09] And we're going to, they, they, what they did is they put me on a part of the base where you were, I was supposed to be like graying papers, basically. [01:15:18] It was a guy they were running. [01:15:20] I don't know. [01:15:20] It was some guys that weren't, I was a cop in the Navy, right? [01:15:24] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:15:24] So it was like guys that were trying to be temporary police officers for their command. [01:15:30] Oh, yeah. [01:15:31] No, Andrew, I let everybody go. [01:15:32] I was the best guy. [01:15:34] Dude, when I say let everybody go, everybody goes. [01:15:37] That's why we lost the war on terror. [01:15:40] I would have been the peacemaker. [01:15:42] But they had me like in some part of the base that I only had to report to this one old dude and he knew what the deal was. [01:15:50] So I'd see him Monday morning. [01:15:51] I'd check in and be like, I'm out. [01:15:54] And that was the last three months. [01:15:56] Wow. [01:15:56] And then I remember the paperwork came in like that. [01:16:00] It's a good cause. [01:16:01] The government subsidized a good one. [01:16:02] You know what I mean? [01:16:03] Like, I'm down with that. [01:16:04] But then the paperwork came in that kind of hurt a little bit because I was still getting paid. [01:16:07] So then the paperwork came in like, yeah, you're out. [01:16:10] I'm like, fuck. [01:16:11] Like, you got dishonorably discharged? [01:16:13] I dishonored. [01:16:13] I'm like, I was honorable. [01:16:14] Okay. [01:16:15] That's my time. [01:16:16] And then I was like, fuck. [01:16:18] I remember it was in January. [01:16:19] I was like, damn, I ain't got that check coming in every two weeks. [01:16:23] So now I'm in LA trying to make it. [01:16:24] You know what I mean? [01:16:25] But I wasn't broke or anything. [01:16:27] That's why I don't have the whole, I didn't know where my next meal was coming from. [01:16:32] I went to LA even. [01:16:33] I wasn't in the hole. [01:16:35] Right. [01:16:35] And I didn't have any money. [01:16:36] So when you're single with no kids, you don't need a lot. [01:16:39] You know what I mean? [01:16:40] Even my first roommate in LA, we had no living room furniture. [01:16:47] So if he was to break in our apartment, you'd have been like, nobody lives here. [01:16:50] I had my bedroom. [01:16:51] He had his bedroom. [01:16:52] I ain't buying accounts for you. [01:16:54] Nobody for you. [01:16:55] And then I ended up living like OnlyFans girls. [01:16:59] Guys, I think it's very important to note that while we're recording this, the Knicks, the New York Knicks are currently up 3-1. [01:17:07] Okay. [01:17:07] That's right. [01:17:07] They're currently up 3-1. [01:17:09] I believe by the time this episode comes out, we have already closed out the Detroit Pistons. [01:17:13] We are on our way into the second rounds. [01:17:16] Okay. [01:17:16] This is, to me, an absolute no-brainer. [01:17:19] The Knicks dominating. [01:17:20] These are easy games. [01:17:21] We like to keep it closer ratings because it's a city that understands entertainment. [01:17:25] It's very important to us. [01:17:26] You are welcome. [01:17:27] Everybody, oh, the Knicks, this call, that call. [01:17:30] Yeah, you're welcome. [01:17:30] Okay. [01:17:31] You stayed. [01:17:31] You watched that game. [01:17:32] You were allowed to do it because for some reason, your wife is okay with you watching sports, but not anything else or not scrolling your phone. [01:17:38] Why is that? [01:17:38] Let's not ask questions. [01:17:40] The point I'm trying to make here, okay, is that this NBA playoffs is shaping out to be absolutely fantastic. [01:17:46] Okay. [01:17:46] Outside of watching Boston play, which is like watching paint dry. [01:17:50] I can't believe a team so good could be so fucking boring to watch. [01:17:53] It has been fantastic. [01:17:55] Absolutely fantastic. [01:17:57] What are we going to do? [01:17:58] Are we going to put some money up? [01:17:59] Yes, we are. [01:18:00] And when we put that bread up, we're going to do it over at Stake. [01:18:03] Stake is the leader of global betting in U.S. social casinos, bet on top sports political events. [01:18:07] Use the promo code Flagrant for your welcome bonus. [01:18:10] We've got some big ones coming up. [01:18:12] Okay. [01:18:14] Is LeBron going to do it? [01:18:15] Is he going to pull it off? [01:18:17] Is he going to come back once again from 3-1? [01:18:20] Or is he going to pass the baton to the next man that's going to carry the league on his shoulders for another decade? [01:18:26] Who knows? [01:18:27] Who knows? [01:18:28] You can bet on it and you'll do it over there at stake. [01:18:31] Anyway, let's get back to the show. === Betting On Sports With Stake (15:32) === [01:18:32] Crazy part of my first year in LA, I end up moving in with like this big, big drug dealer. [01:18:37] And I didn't know. [01:18:39] He was like the dude in LA. [01:18:42] And he had a roommate? [01:18:44] He had a fucking mansion in Bel Air. [01:18:46] He wanted me to house sit. [01:18:47] He needed a white guy. [01:18:48] I found out later to be the face of the neighborhood because we had these parties and the cops would get called and I'm the one going up to the end of the driveway because you had to walk to get to the house. [01:19:00] You couldn't see it from the street. [01:19:02] So if cops would show up, he'd always be like, yo, G. [01:19:05] They at the gate. [01:19:06] You had no idea something comes up. [01:19:08] We're just trying to know what I'm wrong, bro. [01:19:10] You don't. [01:19:11] I'm from Ohio. [01:19:12] I get to LA. [01:19:15] I'm showing up now at these LA parties and I'm seeing houses I've never been in before. [01:19:21] So I don't know. [01:19:21] In LA, you know, everything's kind of fake it till you make it type deal. [01:19:25] Okay, okay. [01:19:25] So I don't know. [01:19:26] I really was naive. [01:19:28] I thought he threw parties. [01:19:29] I thought he was a bodyguard. [01:19:31] And I don't know what anything runs. [01:19:33] I don't know what these houses run for. [01:19:34] So I'm kind of clueless. [01:19:36] You were a terrible cop. [01:19:40] So he literally, I don't know. [01:19:43] You know, it's still my dude. [01:19:44] He's in prison now. [01:19:44] I still go visit him. [01:19:46] Really? [01:19:46] He's still my guy. [01:19:47] He got life. [01:19:48] I don't think he's getting out. [01:19:49] I hope he does, but I'm not going to say what he did. [01:19:52] Yeah. [01:19:52] Because I want him to get out. [01:19:54] Yes. [01:19:55] But that's still my dog, man. [01:19:58] But I just remember we came. [01:20:02] I came home one time and I had never seen that many drugs in a house. [01:20:08] Like I walked in and there was just like the weed, the blocks was up to my calf and it filled. [01:20:16] It would fill this whole studio. [01:20:18] And I'm going, and then like five SUVs pull down the driveway, these suburbans, and these brothers look like they was off the grid. [01:20:25] They didn't smile. [01:20:26] They didn't say hello. [01:20:27] They opened the door and just started loading the shit up in the back of these SUVs. [01:20:31] And I had one of my buddies, one of my buddies was there. [01:20:35] And he goes, is this weed? [01:20:37] And my boy goes, yeah, what do you mean? [01:20:40] He goes, you want some? [01:20:41] He was like, I can have some of this. [01:20:43] He goes, if you want something, take some. [01:20:45] He went like this, tried to take a pinch. [01:20:48] You won't get it. [01:20:49] Get it. [01:20:51] I saw the glow from the last dragon. [01:20:54] He goes, oh my God. [01:20:56] So then he does the dumb shit. [01:20:57] He goes, yo, I got some boys, man. [01:21:00] I got some boys out buy some weed. [01:21:02] He goes, give my number. [01:21:04] And then it ended up going bad because he's like, yo, your boys are bullshitting, man. [01:21:08] Don't send them by my way up. [01:21:09] They bullshitting. [01:21:10] He like snapped on my boy because he tried to be like, if you guys are going to buy some shit, this is like another level. [01:21:17] Like they were running this shit. [01:21:19] Like, I don't want to give everything away, but they were running through different states. [01:21:23] Was there any concern during that time that you're like, okay, I have a promising career? [01:21:26] That's why I got out. [01:21:27] That's why I told him I got to move out. [01:21:28] And how did that combo go? [01:21:30] I literally told him, I said, bro, I'm a comedian. [01:21:33] I can't be around this shit. [01:21:34] What'd he say? [01:21:36] I get it. [01:21:37] And then shout out to my ex-wife. [01:21:40] She calmed him down because there was a point he got a little angry. [01:21:44] What happened? [01:21:46] I'm going to leave that off the air. [01:21:48] Okay, fair enough. [01:21:48] But he got a little angry and she had to go have lunch with him and calm him down. [01:21:51] Be like, you know what? [01:21:52] Gary loves you. [01:21:53] Like, he would never do anything to you. [01:21:55] So he was worried that you could potentially snitch and then he would be fucked up. [01:21:59] I don't know. [01:22:00] I would be worried. [01:22:01] I don't know. [01:22:01] Trust one white guy. [01:22:04] I'll tell you a cool story. [01:22:05] You get life in prison the second he moves out of your house. [01:22:14] Elaine while he goes and visits right now. [01:22:16] Nah, we're cool. [01:22:17] He knows they had nothing to do with me. [01:22:19] But I'll tell you a cool story. [01:22:22] So I just started headlining and we're still living together. [01:22:26] And I come home and there's two girls in my room, right? [01:22:30] We had like a four-bedroom in the house. [01:22:32] And then there's two girls in my room. [01:22:33] And I'm going, I walked in. [01:22:35] I go, what the fuck? [01:22:36] So I go to his room. [01:22:38] Yo, there's like, there's two girls in there. [01:22:39] He goes, oh, shit, I thought you was getting back tomorrow. [01:22:41] He's my bad, bro. [01:22:42] I get him out. [01:22:43] So the girl's like, oh, we're so sorry. [01:22:45] You got a room. [01:22:46] And he tells me, he goes, yeah, these are some of my girls from Vegas, man. [01:22:49] I was looking out for him this week. [01:22:51] They were like drop dead gorgeous. [01:22:53] They looked like they were made in a lab, right? [01:22:55] They were hookers that he brought to LA to, they were like going in the Palisades and everything. [01:23:03] And he's the one that would drive them, sit outside, make sure they got their money. [01:23:07] He was getting broke off a little bit too, right? [01:23:08] Yeah, pimping is what we were going to do. [01:23:09] He could be. [01:23:11] I know. [01:23:11] I knew you were going there. [01:23:16] A visual. [01:23:17] I was going with that. [01:23:17] This was the visual. [01:23:19] He was probably giving them a little bit of a drink. [01:23:21] They come out of my rubber. [01:23:23] They leave me. [01:23:24] He got into a life in prison. [01:23:25] He was probably really earnest with those girls. [01:23:29] I deserved it. [01:23:30] They leave my room, and I'm going, first I was pissed. [01:23:33] I go, no, fool's in my room, but I can't be foolish because I'm staring at my roommate. [01:23:38] They can't be mad. [01:23:39] So it's this internal. [01:23:41] And then I looked around my room. [01:23:42] I go, our room's really fucking clean. [01:23:45] And I was like, they washed my clothes. [01:23:47] I was like, everything, I opened my drug. [01:23:49] This shit is folded beautifully. [01:23:51] To be in my room, it never smelled that good. [01:23:55] Like, all my shit was pressed. [01:23:56] I was like this. [01:23:57] Oh, that wasn't a bad deal than being in a room. [01:24:00] Then he goes, yo, G, I mean, they here. [01:24:04] Like, if I want to do something, I was like, no, I'm good. [01:24:08] Like, if they would have called me when I was on that podcast with you and Charlamagne, I was too, like, freaking out. [01:24:17] Like, no, no, I'm good. [01:24:18] Yeah. [01:24:19] I'd never seen a guy pull pussy like him, though. [01:24:23] Really? [01:24:23] In my life. [01:24:24] Wait a minute, the drug kingpin and pimp and girl? [01:24:29] I mean, exactly. [01:24:30] We're doing robots. [01:24:31] That's crazy. [01:24:34] Gary, are you telling me the drug dealer Kingpin Pimp that has a mansion in Bel Air was good at off the air some of the women and you won't believe me? [01:24:45] Oh, really? [01:24:46] Yeah. [01:24:47] Like famous girls. [01:24:48] Wow. [01:24:49] Just at the house. [01:24:50] Same one name we believe. [01:24:51] Nope. [01:24:52] But like I got the movie held up. [01:24:54] Hallie Barry. [01:24:55] Why I was living with him. [01:24:56] No, no. [01:24:57] Why I was living with him. [01:24:58] I got the movie Hello. [01:24:59] Shit. [01:25:00] I said no. [01:25:02] But you said no kind of yet. [01:25:08] Andrew. [01:25:09] No. [01:25:10] Tell me not. [01:25:11] No. [01:25:12] Yeah, yeah. [01:25:12] So I'm leaving the next day to go shoot Held Up. [01:25:16] So he goes, he goes, he goes, yo, my boy's coming picking up this one. [01:25:20] Everybody had the Lincoln Navigators. [01:25:23] I said, no, they're going to have a car serve. [01:25:24] He goes, motherfucker, you ain't going to your first movie in a fucking sedan, he said. [01:25:31] He goes, no, I got my boy coming. [01:25:32] We're going to take you right. [01:25:33] Like in the Navigator. [01:25:34] How do you even connect with this guy? [01:25:36] Like, where does he? [01:25:38] He used to always be at the comedy clubs. [01:25:40] And how I started hanging out with him was it was Thanksgiving. [01:25:45] This before cell phones. [01:25:46] Yeah. [01:25:47] I was doing all the black rooms in LA. [01:25:49] So Tuesday night was the comedy store. [01:25:51] Monday night was the improv. [01:25:52] Sunday night was Laugh Factory. [01:25:53] It's Monday night at the improv. [01:25:55] Mobile. [01:25:56] Mobet Monday. [01:25:57] Mobile better Monday. [01:25:57] We're out there. [01:25:59] D-Ray was the host of them. [01:26:00] D-Ray wasn't even on the scene back then. [01:26:02] This is like 98. [01:26:03] So I'm out front. [01:26:04] Everybody's hanging out in the shit clothes. [01:26:07] And he goes, he goes, yo, G, what you do with Thanksgiving? [01:26:09] I go, nothing. [01:26:10] He goes, come by the house. [01:26:12] All right, what's the address? [01:26:13] This is for cell phones too. [01:26:15] Writes the address down. [01:26:16] Thursday comes. [01:26:17] Motherfucker Gary shows up in Compton to his mom's house. [01:26:22] I knocked on the door. [01:26:23] The motherfucker asked the door and goes, you came? [01:26:26] You invited me. [01:26:27] On time? [01:26:28] He just killed me. [01:26:30] He just kept stared at me. [01:26:31] I was like, what are you staring at? [01:26:32] He goes, yo, I never have no white boy in my house. [01:26:35] I go, my boys wouldn't believe there's a white boy in my house around. [01:26:38] My mama's house. [01:26:39] He was literally tripping that I showed up. [01:26:41] You're like a celebrity. [01:26:43] And I knew to hang with the women. [01:26:45] Don't hang in the backyard with the dudes. [01:26:48] Don't play domino. [01:26:49] If you went with the women, you good. [01:26:50] Tell me, tell me, tell me. [01:26:52] What's the... [01:26:52] Because if they vouch for you, we like him. [01:26:55] He cool. [01:26:56] They're going to vouch for you quick. [01:26:58] But the dudes are going to be more suspicious. [01:27:00] Probably white guy was a criminal. [01:27:02] I stayed in the kitchen all Thanksgiving. [01:27:04] Motherfucker, I was mixing sweet potato pie. [01:27:08] I was putting cheese in the macaroni cheese room. [01:27:12] I was in that bitch. [01:27:16] This fucking crushes pumpkin. [01:27:20] I think I started crying when I ate it. [01:27:21] Oh my god. [01:27:23] Thank you so much. [01:27:24] This is so flavorful. [01:27:26] Okay, see, but I got in good. [01:27:28] That's what started the relationship. [01:27:30] Yeah. [01:27:31] I showed up and then he hired me. [01:27:36] I thought he hired me to go to Utah to host this thing for Brian Russell. [01:27:40] This is when the jazz had Carl Malone, John Stockton. [01:27:42] So Brian Russell was playing for the jazz at the time. [01:27:46] So he was real cool with Brian, right? [01:27:48] They knew each other from San Bernardino back in the day. [01:27:50] Okay. [01:27:50] So they said, yo, I'll never forget. [01:27:53] They go, Casey and Jojo and Rolls Royce, we got a concert Brian's doing. [01:27:57] Will you host it? [01:27:59] I said, yeah. [01:28:00] So they fly me out to Salt Lake. [01:28:03] I go there. [01:28:04] It's funny. [01:28:04] Casey and JoJo doesn't show up. [01:28:07] I just remember it was like a junior college gym and it's packed, but it was all fucking Samoan looking people. [01:28:13] Oh, yeah. [01:28:13] And I was like, oh, this ain't my audience. [01:28:16] And I hadn't really been on TV at all. [01:28:18] So I'm a no-name about to go up. [01:28:20] Casey Jojo didn't show up. [01:28:22] They just like, they lied. [01:28:24] They said they missed a flight. [01:28:25] And then Brian goes, all right, I'm going to try to private. [01:28:27] Where you at? [01:28:27] And they were like, and they were lying. [01:28:30] They just weren't going to show up. [01:28:32] And so the concert got canceled. [01:28:34] Yeah. [01:28:35] But it really got me in with like Brian Russell, my roommate, because they were close. [01:28:40] And then I remember went to the game the next night against Portland. [01:28:43] Hold on. [01:28:43] What happens with the show? [01:28:45] They just, everybody left. [01:28:47] The show was canceled. [01:28:49] That was it. [01:28:49] I stayed backstage the whole time. [01:28:51] And they still paid me. [01:28:52] I showed up. [01:28:53] I mean, whoa. [01:28:54] Wow. [01:28:54] That's kind of be embarrassing for a guy like that. [01:28:56] Yeah, he was hot. [01:28:57] He was hot. [01:28:57] He was like, no show. [01:28:59] They're not coming. [01:29:00] Their band was there. [01:29:02] Casey Jill didn't show up. [01:29:04] The band was there. [01:29:05] The Rolls-Royce was the open act. [01:29:07] They were there. [01:29:08] I was there. [01:29:08] The only two people who didn't show up was Casey and Joe. [01:29:10] So everybody's prepared to do the show. [01:29:12] Yeah. [01:29:12] And then they bail. [01:29:13] And then they was like, why didn't they say their aunt died or something like that? [01:29:16] I don't know. [01:29:16] But I think they weren't expecting Brian to be like, yo, I'm about to send a private. [01:29:21] Yeah. [01:29:21] No, they were like, and then they pulled it. [01:29:23] Yeah. [01:29:23] Yeah, they pulled their trunk card, so to speak. [01:29:26] So that's what got me cool with them. [01:29:29] And then we just became friends after that. [01:29:33] And then he asked me to house sit. [01:29:34] He said, yo, I'm about to leave town for a couple months, man. [01:29:38] Can you house sit? [01:29:39] And I was like, well, let me see the house. [01:29:41] I'm in this fucking two-bedroom rundown apartment in North Hollywood off Lancersham. [01:29:46] I went to his house. [01:29:47] I'm like, what the fuck? [01:29:49] Indoor pool on the inside and the outside. [01:29:52] Like, it was just the most beautiful home with nothing in it, by the way. [01:29:57] There's no pictures, no TV, no refrigerator. [01:29:59] There's nothing in this bitch. [01:30:00] His door had a padlock on it. [01:30:02] You couldn't get in his room. [01:30:04] And then I just remember, I said, I got a house sit here. [01:30:08] And then I asked him, I said, can I put pictures of me up on the wall? [01:30:11] He's like, I don't give a fuck what you do. [01:30:13] I was bringing girls back there. [01:30:14] They thought it was my shit. [01:30:16] I said, what do you do? [01:30:17] I'm a comedian, man. [01:30:20] That's when comedians had TV deals. [01:30:22] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:30:22] ABC, CBS, Television. [01:30:24] I'm big. [01:30:25] I'm big in Germany, baby. [01:30:27] I got steak sauce in that bitch. [01:30:29] So you were living good while you're in LA, even though at the beginning of your career. [01:30:33] I can honestly say my first year in LA, the 98 year, I got to wait with Jamie Foxx. [01:30:40] I got the role with Jamie. [01:30:42] I'm going to keep that shit off the air. [01:30:44] Because, you know, Jamie, man, Jamie can go. [01:30:47] Like, parties-wise. [01:30:48] Jamie's parties are legendary. [01:30:49] Yeah. [01:30:50] So I'm hanging out with Jamie. [01:30:52] I got the big ass house in Bel Air that people think it's mine that it's not. [01:30:55] I go, I'll just put like this. [01:30:57] I lived what everyone thinks the Hollywood life should be for one year. [01:31:02] And that was enough. [01:31:04] I'd be dead. [01:31:04] Really? [01:31:05] If I kept that going. [01:31:07] Yeah, I'd be dead. [01:31:08] Fuck. [01:31:09] We had some parties. [01:31:10] We had a July 4th party in 98. [01:31:12] Kobe showed up. [01:31:14] Nobody knew. [01:31:15] He was just got done with his rookie year, right? [01:31:17] My buddy from San Diego's there, and he fucked it up the intro because they go, yo, Kobe's here. [01:31:23] And I was like, oh, there was a lot of other celebs there, too, right? [01:31:26] You know, Kobe was like, I don't know. [01:31:29] He's like, he just didn't go out. [01:31:31] Yeah. [01:31:32] So for him to show up, it was a day party. [01:31:34] Yeah. [01:31:34] I said, my buddy, keep in mind, everybody's acting like it's my house because he doesn't want anybody to know it's his. [01:31:41] So when everybody comes, I'm getting introduced to everybody. [01:31:44] So I'm like, hey, Kobe's here. [01:31:45] I go out to say hi, Kobe. [01:31:46] My fucking buddy is like within earshot. [01:31:49] He keeps walking around. [01:31:50] He goes, Kobe Rat. [01:31:51] I can't wait. [01:31:51] Kobe Brad's here. [01:31:52] Jenny Bean's son. [01:31:53] Kobe, Kobe. [01:31:54] I was like, dude, shut the fuck up. [01:31:57] But he's standing there. [01:31:59] Kobe, baby. [01:32:00] Kobe. [01:32:02] He goes, I can't leave. [01:32:02] Kobe's here. [01:32:03] K to the O to the B to the E. [01:32:06] And you can tell Kobe's like shaking my hammer going, The fuck is this weirdo? [01:32:10] But he just kept walking around us. [01:32:13] Like, what are you doing? [01:32:14] Like, I pulled him, what the fuck are you doing? [01:32:16] Bro, he goes, man, that's fucking Kobrat, bro. [01:32:18] That's Kobe Raph. [01:32:21] So Kobe's 19 at this point. [01:32:23] Yep. [01:32:24] Wow. [01:32:24] He wasn't drinking or nothing. [01:32:25] No, I'm not checking out. [01:32:26] He was there for probably. [01:32:29] He was probably there less than an hour. [01:32:30] Wow. [01:32:31] But he came, hung out, had some handler bodyguard with him. [01:32:34] He was real cool, though. [01:32:36] Yeah. [01:32:36] Real, real cool. [01:32:37] But there was like, at that time, I bet you half the NFL was at that party. [01:32:41] Holy shit. [01:32:42] Wow. [01:32:42] It was a bad. [01:32:43] That party was so epic. [01:32:45] I would be at like a Gold's Gym in Pasadena and somebody like, yo, you have another party? [01:32:53] So you were in a lot of ways the man a year into comedy. [01:32:58] In LA. [01:32:59] In LA. [01:33:01] Yeah, you're in San Diego first, and then you moved to LA. [01:33:03] I'm a white guy doing all the black shit. [01:33:05] Yeah. [01:33:05] So I was the only one really doing it. [01:33:07] Doing it very recognizable. [01:33:08] Early 20s. [01:33:10] I'm at that age where you're going out and you're all that stuff. [01:33:13] So it was, I don't, that was, that was one of the funnest years of my life. [01:33:17] I really got to live the LA experience for one year. [01:33:21] Okay, you're so popping at this time, and all these people are coming to your house and it's the party. [01:33:25] Are you like believing the hype? [01:33:27] Are you hitting on like famous chicks? [01:33:29] Are you? [01:33:30] I had no problem hitting on famous chicks. [01:33:31] And was it successful? [01:33:32] Huh? [01:33:33] Couple. [01:33:34] Really? [01:33:35] Not no A-listers. [01:33:36] Well, you know, a couple classmates from a different world. [01:33:42] I don't mean regulars. [01:33:43] I mean one episode. [01:33:50] We were Shorty sisters. [01:33:56] Okay. [01:33:57] When you move out. [01:33:58] Is it a reality check? [01:34:00] Well, I had to go. [01:34:02] That was when the shit was hitting the fan, bro. === Adjusting To Crazy Reality (04:44) === [01:34:05] Yeah, yeah. [01:34:05] Like, I'm seeing shit I shouldn't see. [01:34:07] No, I know, but then you have to adjust your lifestyle. [01:34:09] Yeah, now you're back. [01:34:10] No, but, but, no. [01:34:13] This all happened like over the course of six, seven months. [01:34:18] So in that six, seven months, I got the hosting job on BET. [01:34:22] So I'm on TV now. [01:34:23] But your new house doesn't look like that, I imagine. [01:34:25] No, there has to be an adjustment period. [01:34:27] And like, are all these people that were, you know, kind of, you know, living the good life around you, then they see your new house. [01:34:33] Are they looking at you differently? [01:34:34] Do they think? [01:34:36] I don't think it was like that. [01:34:37] I was like, I just, I ended up moving in with my ex. [01:34:41] And she had a nice little, it was, it was complete opposite. [01:34:45] It went from party, party, party. [01:34:47] Now I'm living in a nice townhouse in Glendale. [01:34:51] Right, right. [01:34:52] And so it's, it's very quiet now. [01:34:54] Yeah. [01:34:54] You know what I mean? [01:34:55] So it was, you know, it was an easy transition. [01:34:57] Wow. [01:34:58] Did you ever have interaction with Kobe after that party? [01:35:00] Nope. [01:35:01] It's one and only. [01:35:02] Wow. [01:35:03] My boy fucked that all up. [01:35:04] I still like it to this day. [01:35:05] I was like, dude, what the fuck? [01:35:07] He thought that was my house. [01:35:11] He just, I'll never forget his fucking cheesy ass. [01:35:15] I can call it out. [01:35:16] Scott King, motherfucker from Dayton, Ohio. [01:35:19] God damn it, Scott. [01:35:20] He fucked that all up. [01:35:22] And every time the cops came, were you able to smooth it over? [01:35:24] Every time. [01:35:25] There was never a moment where. [01:35:26] What did you say? [01:35:26] Did you play the military card? [01:35:27] What did you say? [01:35:28] No, like, so we had, there wasn't neighbors close by, but they were in the vicinity. [01:35:34] And all they see is like a line of cars and black people getting out, you know? [01:35:38] And I'm talking like, you're talking like Nate Dogg type people, right? [01:35:42] You're not looking at Wayne Brady's getting out. [01:35:44] You know what I mean? [01:35:46] So they're like, black people. [01:35:48] And, you know, they're hearing music and we're partying. [01:35:51] We never had late night parties. [01:35:52] That was always, July 4th was like noon to seven. [01:35:56] And then we weeded everybody out and then we let maybe like 30 people stay late. [01:36:02] And it was always good odds. [01:36:03] It was 10 dudes and like 20 girls. [01:36:06] You know what I mean? [01:36:06] And is that by design? [01:36:08] Like, are you. [01:36:09] What's that? [01:36:10] The freak off. [01:36:10] So the freak off. [01:36:12] Like this. [01:36:15] I've never heard of that. [01:36:16] Hold on. [01:36:17] There is a story I can't share. [01:36:18] So the same night, the July 4th party, afterwards, we're in a jacuzzi and there's like 10 people in the jacuzzi and we're all just kind of sitting. [01:36:27] Keep in mind, I'm still young in the game and everything's just, I'm just soaking everything in like a sponge. [01:36:32] We had a sauna and this guy started fucking this girl in the sauna. [01:36:38] So everyone's just talking. [01:36:39] Let's say we're talking about the Lakers or the Clippers or something. [01:36:41] And this, all they see is this girl's ass cheek in the steam. [01:36:46] And he's just pounding it and he's got her up and nobody's acknowledging it. [01:36:50] I'm going, are we not going to talk about the bitch getting fucked? [01:36:56] I don't care that Carl Malone fucks Jack in the playoffs. [01:37:01] This dude is fucking a girl right here. [01:37:04] So the whole time we're talking here, I'm going to like this. [01:37:07] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:37:10] It never got acknowledged. [01:37:12] And then they just came out like, how y'all doing? [01:37:14] It's like, oh, LA's different. [01:37:16] For real. [01:37:17] LA's different. [01:37:18] So you live like what people assume is the wild LA life. [01:37:23] Yeah. [01:37:24] I didn't observe it. [01:37:25] You observed it. [01:37:26] I don't want to put anything bad on you, but like when people do talk about Hollywood and these freak offs and these parties, there is a version of that which kind of exists. [01:37:33] Oh, I don't doubt anything after that first year I saw. [01:37:36] That gets as crazy as everybody says, even crazier than what you saw. [01:37:40] I think it gets way crazier than what I saw. [01:37:42] I saw a minor version of it. [01:37:44] Like when people talk about the Diddy shit, are you like 100% some weird things were happening? [01:37:48] I think they 100% of those parties. [01:37:49] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:37:50] Wow. [01:37:51] Like shit that ever made you feel uncomfortable or did he ever ask you to deliver them together? [01:37:56] Nothing illegal. [01:37:57] No, no, nothing illegal in that way, but like so debaucherous that you're like... Gay, you're saying gay. [01:38:02] No, no, no, no. [01:38:03] I'm not saying that. [01:38:04] I'm not saying that. [01:38:05] I mean, like, so debaucherous that you're like, yo, what are we even doing here? [01:38:08] Like, fucking fun, but. [01:38:10] No, no, I never saw nothing that would make me uncomfortable. [01:38:16] I would say that. [01:38:17] Yeah. [01:38:19] I never saw no gay shit. [01:38:20] Even after that one year, did you ever like, because you're in the industry, you think like a man massive hit, think like a man two comes out. [01:38:28] Are you getting invited any of that shit that they're like, yo, this is weird? [01:38:31] And I don't feel comfortable. [01:38:32] You got the freak offs. [01:38:33] No, no, no. [01:38:34] I never went there no freak. [01:38:34] You meet Harvey Weinstein in a hotel room. [01:38:36] No, None of that. [01:38:38] That first year was the most I'd seen probably in my life to this day. [01:38:42] Okay. [01:38:43] Honestly, it was the age I was at. [01:38:45] It was the time of that time in LA. [01:38:48] Yeah. [01:38:48] You know what I mean? === No Gay Shit At Century Club (04:23) === [01:38:49] And it was just, it was just the stars aligned, so to speak. [01:38:52] Like everything was happening. [01:38:54] I got the host job on Comic View. [01:38:55] I'm a white guy on a black show. [01:38:57] I get a movie of Jamie Foxx, which is huge that time, right? [01:39:00] Held up. [01:39:01] Oh, yeah. [01:39:02] So we shot up in Canada. [01:39:04] So I was kind of, Jamie was feeling me out. [01:39:06] Like, is Gary cool or not? [01:39:08] You know what I mean? [01:39:09] So it was just, it was just, honestly, I wouldn't say anything. [01:39:11] It was great. [01:39:12] Wow. [01:39:13] And the thing is, I'm still cool with the dude. [01:39:16] After it all hit the fan, I still go back. [01:39:19] Man, I've visited that dude and I visited him in San Quentin in Folsom. [01:39:26] He's somewhere else now. [01:39:27] I'm probably going to go see him in a couple weeks when I'm up in the Bay. [01:39:30] You know what I mean? [01:39:31] He's still my guy. [01:39:32] He didn't never do me wrong. [01:39:34] You know what I mean? [01:39:35] And I literally told him, like, when I had to move out, I go, dude, I can't be around this shit, bro. [01:39:40] Yeah. [01:39:40] I mean, I'm seeing, I'm not seeing like I'm not seeing anybody rob anybody. [01:39:46] I'm not seeing anybody overdose, but I'm going, Jesus. [01:39:50] The one story that I was like, oh, this is different. [01:39:53] It used to be the Key Club in LA. [01:39:54] Yeah. [01:39:56] So, and the Century Club was Sunday night in LA. [01:39:59] Okay. [01:40:00] The Century Club is a better story. [01:40:02] The promoter for the Century Club at the time, I don't know who he was. [01:40:05] I'd always go there with my guy, right? [01:40:08] We always got in, we always walked in. [01:40:09] Nobody stopped us, right? [01:40:10] One night I went out by myself and I told him, I said, bro, I'm going to go with the Century Club. [01:40:14] He goes, all right, I'm just going to chill the house. [01:40:16] All right. [01:40:17] So I go. [01:40:18] The promoter wouldn't let me in. [01:40:20] So I'm sitting there. [01:40:20] I was like, and he literally asked, he goes, yo, where's the little boy? [01:40:24] I was like, oh, he didn't come. [01:40:26] And he was like, all right. [01:40:26] And just let me stand out there. [01:40:28] Go, oh. [01:40:28] So I just got my truck and drove back home. [01:40:30] So I'm home like an hour later. [01:40:31] He goes, I thought you was going to Century Club. [01:40:32] He goes, yeah, your boy wouldn't let me in. [01:40:33] He goes, I'll handle it. [01:40:35] That's all he said, right? [01:40:37] That July 4th party, right? [01:40:40] He goes, Gee, come here. [01:40:41] I said, what? [01:40:42] He's got the dude in the closet at the house. [01:40:45] Holy shit. [01:40:45] So he opens the closet and the dude's there. [01:40:47] And he goes, Hey, tell me what the fuck happened. [01:40:50] And I was like, I don't know what you're talking about. [01:40:51] He goes, Did you go to Century Club? [01:40:53] Yeah, he goes, so the guy's like in the closet and he goes, Yo, you let my boy in when he's with me. [01:40:59] When he's not with me, he goes, He's me, blah, blah, blah. [01:41:02] And I'm going, What the fuck is about to happen? [01:41:04] And I go, Hey, man, I think it was just a misunderstanding. [01:41:08] When I said that, that fucking promoter goes, That's all it was. [01:41:11] Misunderstanding? [01:41:12] Misunderstanding. [01:41:15] Wait a minute. [01:41:16] Why is this motherfucker in the closet? [01:41:18] And he's like, This is some different shit. [01:41:22] You know what I mean? [01:41:24] That'll stop my boy, right? [01:41:26] Crazy shit. [01:41:27] We went to the key club one time on Sunset. [01:41:29] That's so dope. [01:41:30] That stresses me out. [01:41:32] This gives me so much anxiety. [01:41:34] So we went to the key club one night in LA and we usually just walked in. [01:41:39] And this one big, big old red-headed white bouncer grabbed him by the arm. [01:41:46] You let people know when someone's white. [01:41:51] Listen, most white people just never say the color of skin if it's a white person. [01:41:58] But you're around so few white people that you have to point it out. [01:42:01] Red-headed white dude. [01:42:03] You know who you are. [01:42:04] The bouncer. [01:42:10] So we would have got it with redhead. [01:42:13] He's like, Goddamn, big red bow. [01:42:17] Go on, go on, go on, go ahead. [01:42:19] He grabbed him by the arm. [01:42:20] Did nothing wrong. [01:42:21] Like, if it's your first day at the nightclub, you're supposed to stop people from walking in. [01:42:26] Yeah. [01:42:26] Motherfucker. [01:42:28] He grabbed him and he was like, all of a sudden, he freaked out. [01:42:32] Like, he goes, he goes, he looked at him and he was going to his car. [01:42:36] And I was like, oh, shit. [01:42:37] Is he about to grab something? [01:42:39] Yeah. [01:42:39] You know? [01:42:39] Yeah. [01:42:40] So I'm following him down sunset. [01:42:42] I'm going, bro, bro. [01:42:43] They did see. [01:42:43] He goes, no, fuck that shit. [01:42:45] I'm like, stopping me, bitch. [01:42:46] I was like, oh, what the fuck's about to happen, right? [01:42:48] We come back. [01:42:49] The promoter for the key club the night is now following him. [01:42:52] He goes, bro, he ain't no. [01:42:53] He ain't no. [01:42:54] And then he goes, he goes, him or me. [01:42:56] The motherfucker went back and goes, you're fired. [01:42:58] Wow. [01:42:59] Fired the bouncer. [01:43:00] Like that. [01:43:01] Wow. [01:43:02] The bouncer was like, what the fuck I do? [01:43:03] The bouncer got lucky, to be honest with you. [01:43:06] So this was a real dude. [01:43:07] That's no, no, this motherfucker was no joke, bro. [01:43:09] I'm giving you like the PG. [01:43:11] Yeah, we got life in prison for you. === Following A Suspect Down Sunset (03:42) === [01:43:13] Yeah, of course, but still. [01:43:15] I mean, I'll not say his name for a reason. [01:43:17] Yeah, I don't want to say that's my dog. [01:43:21] But off air, I'll pull him up. [01:43:23] I'll show you. [01:43:24] Yeah. [01:43:24] I mean, what? [01:43:25] He was a big dude, too. [01:43:26] He was like six, seven. [01:43:27] He wasn't a small dude. [01:43:28] Does life get more boring after that for you? [01:43:31] Like you get married, you have a family, which is not boring at all. [01:43:34] Obviously, it's incredible, but like you're living this insane movie for about six or seven months. [01:43:39] Yeah. [01:43:40] And then you go to have a very kind of traditional home. [01:43:44] You're on the road. [01:43:44] You have success. [01:43:46] Like, what is happening in your brain at that point in time? [01:43:49] Are you like less anxious? [01:43:50] Like, you must be a little nervous. [01:43:51] You're living with a drug dealer. [01:43:52] He's throwing parties. [01:43:54] Boy, girls, doing your time locked up. [01:43:56] I go, yeah, that was a good move. [01:43:57] That was, yeah, that was a good move. [01:43:59] Getting out of there. [01:43:59] Because you could have got caught up in like a Rico, right? [01:44:02] I don't know if I don't know. [01:44:04] Or what is it called? [01:44:05] When you're aware of what's going on, you're standing in a bedding or something. [01:44:09] Yeah. [01:44:09] I was purposely not asking questions. [01:44:11] I think that's why he hung out with me. [01:44:13] I never asked a fucking word. [01:44:16] So it's just like, yo, let's have fun. [01:44:17] We're hanging out. [01:44:18] But I will say, I never paid for a drink. [01:44:22] I never, I never had no problem getting into clubs. [01:44:26] And if anybody's like, will watch this and be like, Gary bullshitting, if you know who I'm talking about, yo, the motherfuckers know. [01:44:34] All right, guys, let's take a break for a second. [01:44:35] You see the lighting. [01:44:36] You already know what time it is. [01:44:37] Okay. [01:44:37] It's hot out there. [01:44:38] Sundress season, right? [01:44:39] I know sundress season's hitting. [01:44:41] You're like, shit, I don't need any performance-enhancing drugs. [01:44:44] This dick is rock. [01:44:45] Oh, yeah. [01:44:46] Oh, yeah. [01:44:46] Well, it could be rocker. [01:44:48] That's a fact. [01:44:49] It could be rocker. [01:44:51] How are you going to make it rocker? [01:44:53] You're going to chew it up. [01:44:54] You're going to chew it up. [01:44:54] You're going to chew it out. [01:44:55] Simple as that. [01:44:56] Blue chew. [01:46:57] Do you think that that played a part in your acceptance in the community outside of just in LA specifically? [01:47:08] Oh, 100%. [01:47:09] I was with the guy. [01:47:10] So you're with the guy, and it's like you're this white dude that you're in, you're in the black comedy circles, but which at some point in time when you start to get success, there might be like some pushback. [01:47:20] I'm sure you've experienced that in your career. [01:47:22] Like you've had massive success as a white dude in black comedy. [01:47:26] But do you think at that point in time, it was like, nah, he's cool. [01:47:28] He's with him. [01:47:29] There was this cosign. [01:47:30] Do you think that was helpful in the beginning? [01:47:32] I think in LA, it just got me in the rooms. [01:47:34] Like, people was like, you know what I mean? [01:47:36] Do you know Scroncho? [01:47:39] Yeah. [01:47:40] Okay. [01:47:40] Scroncho knows who I'm talking about. [01:47:42] Yeah. [01:47:42] Scrancho was running this same group with him, right? [01:47:47] Scroncho one night accused me of stealing one of his jokes. [01:47:51] Have you seen my act and Scrancho's act? [01:47:54] Okay. [01:47:54] It's literally like Bill Maher said, I'm trying to steal politically incorrect or something. [01:47:59] So Scrancho and Scroncho was being cool. [01:48:02] Scrancho was not being an asshole. [01:48:04] We're outside the improv, and he was like, Yo, gee, my boy said you took something. [01:48:09] I go, What? [01:48:11] What they here's what they said, I took Scrancho used to bring somebody on stage or something for a bit. [01:48:19] And then one night I'm messing around. [01:48:22] I brought somebody on stage. [01:48:23] But it wasn't planned. [01:48:23] You're just trying to ref in it. [01:48:25] Yeah. [01:48:25] And Scrancho knew. [01:48:26] And this is not an indictment on Scratch. [01:48:28] He was cool as fuck. [01:48:29] We were outside. [01:48:29] We're talking, but his boys was like, they're hyping him up. [01:48:35] They're like hyping him up to hit me, right? [01:48:37] I go back. [01:48:39] Scroncho. [01:48:39] I go. [01:48:40] Hold on. [01:48:40] That's not a guy. [01:48:41] Yeah. [01:48:42] I go back and tell my guy. [01:48:44] I said, yo, fucking Scrancho and his boys, man. [01:48:47] He goes, huh? [01:48:48] I'll handle it. [01:48:49] Oh, jeez. [01:48:49] We see Scrancho. [01:48:51] I'll handle it. [01:48:55] And Scrancho next Tuesday, we see him at the comedy store. [01:48:58] Scrancho pulls me aside. [01:49:01] My boy sees Scrancho in the same dudes. [01:49:03] Yeah. [01:49:04] Pulls aside and told Scrancho, man, hey, somebody said, Gary stole your shit. [01:49:09] And Scrancho, like, nah, he was misunderstanding. [01:49:11] My fucker said this. [01:49:12] And, you know, it ain't like that. [01:49:14] He goes, all right. [01:49:14] And he looked at his boys. [01:49:16] He was like, he looked at the boy. [01:49:18] He goes, you never speak to him again. [01:49:20] And he got to say, Gary, you say to me. [01:49:22] And they're like, all right, all right. [01:49:24] It's like, what the fuck? [01:49:27] Yeah, that's crazy. [01:49:28] You know, he was like, don't you ever speak to him again. [01:49:30] Whatever you say to him, you say to me. [01:49:32] What happened? [01:49:33] Like, how do you guys think you developed that? [01:49:35] He really seems to care for you. [01:49:36] He really seems to look out for facts. [01:49:38] And where does that come from? [01:49:41] He just said, I don't know. [01:49:42] He always said, like, I never asked questions. [01:49:45] I never. [01:49:46] Do you think that you're like the one person in his life that just made him feel like a regular guy? [01:49:51] Maybe. [01:49:52] He's this incredibly powerful, feared human being from the stories you tell me. [01:49:56] Right. [01:49:57] And you got to carry that weight every single interaction you have. [01:50:00] Like, he doesn't get led into a club. [01:50:02] He has to make it known that you can't do that to a person like him. [01:50:07] Not him. [01:50:08] And at every point in time, I imagine he's thinking about like how he exists within the hierarchy of humans he's around. [01:50:13] That bouncer gets fired. [01:50:15] That gets sent around. [01:50:16] Hey, don't mess with this guy. [01:50:17] It's constantly, don't mess with this guy. [01:50:19] And then when he's hanging out with you, maybe he feels like he can kind of let that ego go a little bit. [01:50:24] But he used to love the comedy clubs, bro. [01:50:26] He was there. [01:50:27] But outside of the comedy clubs, I'm trying to understand why he's so protective of you and why you become a representation. [01:50:31] Yeah, when you guys were hanging, just the two of you, were you making him laugh? [01:50:34] Like, were you cracking him up? [01:50:35] Yeah. [01:50:35] Like, he was silly when it was just y'all. [01:50:37] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:50:37] Was he like, was he also joking out? [01:50:40] Did you see a different side of him? [01:50:41] Yeah, I saw a different side of him. [01:50:42] And what was that side? [01:50:44] I don't know. [01:50:44] I saw him. [01:50:45] He kind of let his guard down. [01:50:46] Yeah. [01:50:47] Yeah, yeah. [01:50:47] And what is it about? [01:50:48] What is it about you that allows him to do that? [01:50:51] I don't know. [01:50:52] It's a weird thing. [01:50:53] It was like complete opposites just hanging out. [01:50:56] Like, I wonder if you're like, oh, here's a funny story. [01:50:58] I came up one time and he was in my room and he was asleep on the bed, but he had the gun in his hand, right? [01:51:08] So, you sleep like this, and I'm doing this. [01:51:11] I'm trying, I'm going, hey! [01:51:14] No! [01:51:16] Trying to wake him up and not get shot. [01:51:18] No! [01:51:19] My guy! [01:51:21] I'm yelling his name, yeah! [01:51:22] And then he looks at him, he goes, What the fuck are you doing? [01:51:25] I was like, I want you to wake up and fucking go. [01:51:31] Then he looks at me like, Oh, look at safety. [01:51:34] But I don't know, yeah, of course. [01:51:35] Around that world, like, yo, yeah, my guy, yeah, were you ever like careful making jokes around him? [01:51:40] Because I'm sure with everyone, you're like ribbing people, you know, roasting, whatever. [01:51:43] I never roasted him. [01:51:44] Were you intentional about that? [01:51:45] Like, oh, I don't want to cross a line with this guy. [01:51:47] Yeah, not intentional, I just didn't feel the need. [01:51:50] Yeah, you know, I didn't feel the need. [01:51:53] Yeah, why are you so comfortable in that kind of environment? [01:51:56] Like, growing up in Ohio, you don't know any better. [01:51:58] That's I'm naive. [01:52:00] I just got to LA, bro. [01:52:02] He's like really taking care of me. [01:52:04] Like, as far as like, you know, I'm getting in the spots. [01:52:08] I'm in the mix. [01:52:09] You know, he had money, so I was never paying for shit. [01:52:13] Right. [01:52:14] I wonder if you being an outsider, not just you being a white guy, but you just not being involved in his world at all allows him to let the guard down. [01:52:25] Because if he's like getting vulnerable and telling some random person in his crew things that make him nervous or he's afraid of, that starts to go around. [01:52:34] And then all of a sudden, people start to think, yo, he's actually scared or he's vulnerable. [01:52:39] But with you, you're this outsider. [01:52:40] It's like you almost get to be like Tony Soprano's therapist. [01:52:45] He doesn't have to prove he's hard. [01:52:46] He doesn't have to constantly prove he's hard all the time, which is probably like a very relaxing moment in someone's life. [01:52:52] I didn't think about that. [01:52:53] Yeah. [01:52:54] No? [01:52:54] Yeah. [01:52:54] You're just laughing, making him laugh. [01:52:56] Y'all are just goofing around. [01:52:57] It's like it's such a break from the rest of his life. [01:52:59] Yeah. [01:53:00] I mean, just I can't imagine the pressure of every interaction in your life. [01:53:04] You have to let everybody in that room know that you are the baddest motherfucker on the planet. [01:53:09] That's stressful to even consider. [01:53:12] Yeah, I'm with him. [01:53:13] The fact he doesn't get let in the club and he has to go. [01:53:16] I'm sure on some level, he's just like, fuck, if I don't make a thing out of this, they're going to think. [01:53:20] I still don't know what was going to happen. [01:53:22] He was going to make a situation? [01:53:24] It seemed like it, yeah, but I was like, what is going on right now? [01:53:27] You know what I mean? [01:53:28] I still have no idea what would happen that night. [01:53:30] Fuck. [01:53:32] Yeah. [01:53:32] So then you leave that, you go on the road. [01:53:35] And at this point in time, are you just selling tickets? [01:53:37] Like the road is kind of easy to fill up? [01:53:39] Or no, I wasn't. [01:53:41] I think people got this misconception that I got on BET and I was just selling out everywhere. [01:53:45] Yeah. [01:53:45] That didn't happen for me. [01:53:46] Where's the horror stories? [01:53:48] Yeah, what is that period between Bel Air and 2011 Mike Epps IKEA event? [01:53:55] What is that time like? [01:53:56] When are you doing the comic strip in Edmonton for 40 people? [01:54:00] Well, yeah. [01:54:01] Yeah, I don't have a lot of those stories. [01:54:03] Interesting. [01:54:03] That's great. [01:54:04] That's all. [01:54:05] I don't have the because I was, I just, I got the job on BET. [01:54:10] I was headlining and I wasn't that great. [01:54:12] Right. [01:54:13] But I was selling a decent amount of tickets that I always got put on the ensemble shows at theaters. [01:54:17] You know what I mean? [01:54:18] You're doing those type of things. [01:54:19] And I was always like. [01:54:21] You were always comfortable. [01:54:23] I never had to worry about the club not bringing me back. [01:54:27] Did you ever build close relationships with any of these guys? [01:54:30] Any of like any of the comedians that we would know? [01:54:33] Like, who are you closest to? [01:54:34] Or were you kind of your own man on an island? [01:54:36] Yeah, I was kind of on an island. [01:54:38] Nobody that you really got close to? [01:54:41] Because I've seen you around these spaces. [01:54:43] Honestly, the friendships usually come from grinding like your boat, like you, Bobby Leith, a little bit, but like, you're only knowing. [01:54:50] I don't think I swear I never thought about that. [01:54:53] I don't think I have any like super close. [01:54:55] So you got on kind of quickly. [01:54:56] And you're by yourself. [01:54:57] Yeah. [01:54:58] Well, catch your opener. [01:54:59] Yeah, it's low. [01:55:00] You're seeing, like I said, when I met him, I was like, I always see you on the flyers coming. [01:55:04] Yeah, yeah. [01:55:04] Or you just left. [01:55:05] You know what I mean? [01:55:06] He's coming or leaving. [01:55:07] That's usually how you get to know people like they're coming or going, but I don't have any like people I call all the time stand-up-wise. [01:55:14] I'm trying to think. [01:55:16] Um, no, I mean, I'm still, I probably talked to Joe Coy a lot. [01:55:22] Interesting, he's great. [01:55:23] You know, he was around in the beginning. [01:55:24] Yeah, we met, I think we met we really met at the University of Alabama one night at a college show together, and he still brings up how I fucked him one night at the uh comedy store. [01:55:36] I switched the lineup and I put him up after a guy that was really strong, and Joe just was starting, and it was the black knight, yeah, and he fucking ate dick, and he still blames me. [01:55:49] I go, dude, I'm so sorry, yeah, like and I didn't do it with no malicious intent. [01:55:53] I don't to this day, I don't even remember why I switched the lineup, but it literally was my call, yeah, and he still like remembers it. [01:55:59] It's funny, the fucker's about to do so-fi with Gabriel Glas, and he's still like, You're fine. [01:56:08] Who's your hardest follow? [01:56:11] Oof, back in the day when I first started, um, nobody wanted to go after Craig Robinson, Craig, yeah, because he had a fucking joke with his piano that brought the goddamn house. [01:56:27] That's the one front that he did on Def Comedy, Jim. [01:56:29] He goes, Can I see your booty? [01:56:32] He does this whole song, and then he goes like this: He does this whole bit there. [01:56:36] He goes, He goes, You know, Can I see your booty? [01:56:39] And then he comes and goes, See that girl? [01:56:40] Everybody wants to see your booty or something like that. [01:56:43] I was like, Every time you see him on the little lineup, you'd be like, Fuck, dude, I gotta go after this bitch, yeah, because you know he's gonna destroy. [01:56:51] So, Craig, nobody wanted to follow Cat back in the day when you were when we were open micing, yeah, he was cat in the hat because he had the biggie bit, the one he accused Cedric of stealing. [01:57:01] He had that biggie bit where the car broke down. [01:57:04] That brought the house down, so you're like, fuck. [01:57:06] But I think the strongest back when I first got to LA was Earthquake, really. [01:57:12] Nobody, Earthquake had a fucking closer, and it was one of those runs that went for like five minutes. [01:57:21] And it was like, I was dating this girl, and she had a baby adult, and it was like this. [01:57:25] He played, he acted like this baby was in the crib with real fucking problems, you know what I mean? [01:57:32] And going off like in baby talk, and I was like, in the crowd, just and then earthquake, you know, earthquake, y'all. [01:57:40] Like, you know, like a big sin out, they're in the middle of fucking chaos. [01:57:43] He goes, Earthquake, y'all, and dips. [01:57:45] And I was like, oh my fucking God. [01:57:48] That's where I learned: don't watch stand-up, especially before you go up. [01:57:52] Because if I know I'm following back in the open mic day, if I'm going after Quake, Cat, Craig, and those dudes, I'm outside the building. [01:58:01] So I don't hear this shit. [01:58:03] And I'm making sure I got loud conversations. [01:58:05] Hey, I can see it again, Andrew. [01:58:08] I don't want to hear that shit. [01:58:09] So when I go in, I'm not psyching myself out. [01:58:11] You know what I mean? [01:58:12] But Quake had the strongest closer in the late 90s, I think. [01:58:16] Really? [01:58:16] Yeah. [01:58:17] I'd be like, man, that motherfucker bring the house down with that shit. [01:58:20] Wow. [01:58:20] I want to find that bit. [01:58:21] I've never heard that. [01:58:22] Yeah. [01:58:22] It's dated because I remember something, something had to do with a pager. [01:58:27] Did you use my code on my pages and shit like that? [01:58:29] So it's data down. [01:58:31] Yeah, I would say Quake was the one-up I wanted to follow back then. [01:58:34] Any this is a bad question, but there's part of me that's like, is there any set that you had that was just like absolutely destructive and that somebody that was big, big, big just could not step into afterwards? [01:58:51] Yeah. [01:58:52] We don't have to name names. [01:58:53] I don't want to name names. [01:58:54] But like they, it happened at the um, it happened at the Bay Area Black Comedy Composition, same one that Nick won. [01:59:01] Oh, really? [01:59:02] I had a, I don't know what I said, but the guy that went after me did really bad. [01:59:09] And it was, they used to like call the bombs his name for a minute. [01:59:15] Like, you know, like, he had a, like, if you bombed at me, I go, oh, you had an Andrew? [01:59:18] You know what I mean? [01:59:20] I can't remember the guy's name, though. [01:59:23] Oh, I remember, I just remember he had a pink, the only thing I remember he came after me. [01:59:27] He had a pink sweater with the big white lapels coming out afterwards. [01:59:31] It just was really bad that night. [01:59:33] I don't like the shit on comics. [01:59:34] Yeah. [01:59:35] I really can't remember his name, though. [01:59:36] Because better not to do that. [01:59:38] Yeah, but not to do that. [01:59:41] That was a rough one for him. [01:59:42] Yeah. [01:59:43] You know what I mean? [01:59:44] I'm curious. [01:59:44] Like, so many of the stories is you obviously having so much acceptance within the black community specifically. [01:59:49] I'm curious, was there ever any issue being a white dude in that space that caused you problems or you lost opportunities purely just because of, you know, what you look like? [01:59:58] No. [01:59:59] I think I didn't. [02:00:01] I think it's one thing to be a white guy and you're acting like you want to hang out with black people when you're ingrained in the culture. [02:00:07] Like, like I said, they saw me at the black spots when I got to LA. [02:00:11] I wasn't doing the comedy store all night. [02:00:14] I was going to Maverick's flat. [02:00:15] I was going to the Comiac Theater. [02:00:17] I was going to all the black shit. [02:00:19] And not the ones in Hollywood. [02:00:20] I'm talking with the ones in Compton and on the other side of the 10. [02:00:25] You know what I mean? [02:00:26] So I don't think, I never saw that. [02:00:28] Most of the comics was cool. [02:00:30] It's so weird how like I saw that in New York too. [02:00:32] Like we would do the black rooms in New York when we were coming up and I just didn't understand why it was so divided. [02:00:39] Especially like. [02:00:40] You're talking about the black comedy world? [02:00:42] Yeah. [02:00:43] No, like why comics? [02:00:44] White and black? [02:00:45] Yeah, there'd be like these white comics that would be doing open mics. [02:00:47] They'd be trying to get up at the clubs and they would do these open mics that were horrible. [02:00:51] And the black rooms, this is what I'll say about the black rooms. [02:00:54] If you show up and you want to get up, they'll get you up. [02:00:57] That's why I started doing it. [02:00:58] They're way more accepting than the clubs. [02:01:00] They're not going to make you sit on a tape, go do this whole fucking rigger roll. [02:01:03] And then the open mics in the city are just literally that. [02:01:05] It's just comedians there. [02:01:06] There's no regular audience member. [02:01:07] So in my mind, I was just like, well, I want to go up wherever. [02:01:10] It's not like weird to perform for black people. [02:01:11] I grew up in New York City, but what I saw is like mostly the non-black comics in New York would not even venture to the black rooms. [02:01:20] Which is crazy because you figured. [02:01:22] Don't you want to go up in front of people? [02:01:23] Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. [02:01:24] And you want to push yourself. [02:01:27] Like, I want to make sure these jokes are, they go over wherever I'm at. [02:01:30] Yeah. [02:01:31] And also, one thing that I think really taught me in the black rooms is like the black rooms, they were not there for you to try your little misdirection math problem. [02:01:43] Do you know what I mean? [02:01:44] Like, the white audience sometimes will entertain. [02:01:48] They'll be like, oh, I see what you did there. [02:01:50] Yeah. [02:01:50] Like, oh, I got it. [02:01:51] And the black room's like, oh, yeah, okay, good, whatever. [02:01:53] Oh, so you didn't kill him? [02:01:56] So I stabbed him. [02:01:58] Oh, I guess you stabbed him. [02:01:59] You know what? [02:02:00] It was important that you acknowledge that we're in this room. [02:02:04] And I want to go back to that moment where like Floyd comes back in. [02:02:08] Floyd walks into your special taping. [02:02:11] You have to be present in the room. [02:02:12] That's something I learned in the black rooms. [02:02:14] You have to be present in the room. [02:02:15] If you are not present, they immediately will just check out on you. [02:02:18] They're like, are you going to pretend I'm not here? [02:02:20] The emotion has to be real. [02:02:21] You have to be present. [02:02:22] Like, if something weird is happening, you have to call it out. [02:02:24] And I think it's something that's really helped me in my career that I don't think I would have developed in the white rooms at all or like the whatever you call them, the mainstream rooms. [02:02:31] Mainstream rooms, yeah. === Being Present In The Room (03:58) === [02:02:32] And it's like, because they'll give you a little bit of leeway. [02:02:35] Like you're like, the joke will go over and you'll be like, oh, I guess that one didn't go over. [02:02:39] And then they'll be like, all right, well, what's the next one? [02:02:41] Yeah, yeah. [02:02:42] There's this like politeness that exists, right? [02:02:45] And, but yeah, it's interesting. [02:02:48] Like you developed this like really important tool for comedy, which is being able to stay present in the moment. [02:02:54] Not every show is going to be polite where people are like, they waited two weeks to get it to get that ticket to go to the cellar and they're ready to go and they're waiting with their hands clasped like this. [02:03:03] Yeah. [02:03:03] You know, it's, yeah, I wish more, I wish more comics, especially when they're younger, would go into the black rooms. [02:03:08] I think they learned a lot more. [02:03:10] I think I've only been to the cellar once. [02:03:12] Really? [02:03:13] Do you are you scared to do white rooms? [02:03:15] No, not at all. [02:03:16] Do you remember the first time? [02:03:18] I'm begging. [02:03:18] I literally keep begging my agent, and he'll tell you this: get me on Salt Lake, please. [02:03:23] I just want to go. [02:03:25] I want to experience everything. [02:03:27] Yeah, because I don't think you wouldn't cross over. [02:03:29] Yeah. [02:03:30] I think it'd be very easy. [02:03:31] Like this latest special, and it was on purpose, and somebody would be like, Don't listen to haters and stuff. [02:03:36] The one on Mint right now, there's no race jokes. [02:03:41] And that was a purposeful thing on my part. [02:03:43] But why I don't think that there's not one mention at all. [02:03:47] And I was just like, you know what? [02:03:48] Because how this special came out was the last special I had, Broken Family, we did that on Friday. [02:03:57] And I woke up Saturday morning and I went, I told my manager, I said, I think I got another hour. [02:04:01] Did we get it last night? [02:04:02] Because we did two shows. [02:04:03] She was, yeah, we're clean. [02:04:04] I go, I'm going to do a different hour tonight. [02:04:06] So we sat there at the coffee shop and we wrote down bullet points. [02:04:10] And I just remember there were 12 bullet points and it was like one or two words. [02:04:14] And we taped it to the stage. [02:04:17] Wow. [02:04:17] So I could glance down. [02:04:18] And I didn't want a choppy special. [02:04:21] I was going to try it. [02:04:22] I needed the flow. [02:04:23] So we did it in the flow of things. [02:04:25] And it came out good. [02:04:27] And then when I wrote, I looked at, I said, look, there's no race jokes in this. [02:04:30] I was like laughing about it. [02:04:32] And then when I saw it, I go, all right. [02:04:34] Yeah. [02:04:35] I don't think again, I'm curious. [02:04:38] You know, obviously I want it to be successful just because I love you. [02:04:40] But like, I don't think that staying away from race jokes would change any dynamic. [02:04:45] I actually think going on pods and stuff will communicate to more people that at the end of the day, you're a storyteller. [02:04:52] And like, you know, especially when you live in a drug dealer in LA. [02:04:55] White people are interested in that shit. [02:04:56] White people watch The Wire. [02:04:57] You know what I mean? [02:04:59] So to me, it's just about an education process. [02:05:02] You're a storyteller at the end of the day. [02:05:04] White people have probably seen you in these black spaces and then they might go, oh, maybe he's a comic for black people and not for me. [02:05:10] White people are a little concerned about that shit. [02:05:11] They want to watch black shit from afar, but they don't want to be in it a lot. [02:05:15] That's the reason why Roots was like the number one show on TV in the 70s when that miniseries came out. [02:05:21] Because white people are like, I don't, I want to watch this shit. [02:05:24] No, who the biggest consumer of hip-hop music is white people, right? [02:05:26] I mean, there's like, you know, population things. [02:05:32] I want to watch on TV. [02:05:32] I just, I don't know if I want to go to the concert or not. [02:05:35] But there is a little, there is a little concern. [02:05:36] And also, like, to defend white people, sometimes there also is like a shame. [02:05:40] It's like, am I appropriating this? [02:05:42] There's like a, there's sometimes a slap on the wrist if white people do get too interested. [02:05:46] They're like, oh, you're going to take this shit from us, which I understand from black perspective as well, which is like, they have seen that happen. [02:05:52] Like white people putting cornrows in and all of a sudden trying to make it some white shit. [02:05:55] So I understand both sides of it. [02:05:56] But like, there is a thing with white people is like they want to like comfortably watch something that they have nothing to do with. [02:06:02] They really aren't. [02:06:02] White people are really interested in that kind of shit. [02:06:05] But, but I think the stories that you tell, especially the ones from today, like my assumption is people are going to love this. [02:06:11] And they're going to be like, I want to go check out Gary. [02:06:13] He's like, that what the stand-up is like? [02:06:15] So I'm like, that's way better. [02:06:20] I do Coke on stage. [02:06:23] Yeah. [02:06:24] I stole Key from him. [02:06:27] I do one line in his memory every fucking show, bro. === Stealing Keys From Eddie Murphy (15:40) === [02:06:31] Now you've been asleep since fucking February. [02:06:35] That's why I was sweating. [02:06:35] You got to snort it for the homies sometimes. [02:06:37] Do you see how the Coke came out of my system? [02:06:39] Yeah, Row for a detox. [02:06:40] This is crazy. [02:06:41] You've got to fucking count on it. [02:06:43] That wasn't lotion. [02:06:44] It was blow. [02:06:46] The first 20 minutes of this was rough. [02:06:49] What happened, dude? [02:06:50] You were boring. [02:06:50] Yeah, then it just stopped. [02:06:51] Yeah, that happened. [02:06:52] 90 degrees. [02:06:54] That happened on Think Like a Man, the first one. [02:06:56] Oh my god, the first time we all sat in the bar together and we're in the scene, I started leaking just like I was on here, and I didn't know why. [02:07:06] I'm not nervous, I'm amongst friends. [02:07:08] I go, Why the fuck am I sweating? [02:07:10] And I know my body, I'm like, just get adjusted, get adjusted. [02:07:13] And then one of the producers go, Jesus Christ! [02:07:18] That didn't help, bro. [02:07:20] Because I'm doing the same thing. [02:07:21] Like, I know, do they see it? [02:07:23] Yeah, they see the shit. [02:07:26] I don't think they see it. [02:07:27] I go, because everybody's just doing their shit. [02:07:29] Nobody's acknowledging. [02:07:29] No, they're actors. [02:07:30] And as soon as that producer goes, Jesus Christ, then the floodscape has been open. [02:07:35] Dude, this guy's like Samuel Jackson in a time to kill. [02:07:40] They kept calling me Sweaty Jackson the whole shoot. [02:07:42] I go, what the fuck, bro? [02:07:45] And I leaned up and it looked like I got shot. [02:07:48] They were just sweating in the back. [02:07:49] But you got to realize it wasn't, it was warm. [02:07:52] It was July. [02:07:54] We were in a bar and they had to shut off the AC and they didn't show up the fans. [02:07:58] So as soon as they said we're ready to roll, it just went up like 20 degrees. [02:08:02] And my body just takes a minute to adjust. [02:08:05] It was fine the rest of the day. [02:08:07] We were in that booth all day, but that first 30 minutes was like this shit. [02:08:11] Yeah, yeah. [02:08:12] That goddamn producer. [02:08:13] Yeah. [02:08:14] Jesus Christ. [02:08:17] And that's, you don't want to do that in fucking Kevs right there. [02:08:20] It was, it was attack mode right there. [02:08:22] Bro, I've been there. [02:08:24] Can I ask a question sort of based on that? [02:08:26] You were in Daddy Daycare. [02:08:28] What was it like meeting Eddie Murphy for that movie? [02:08:31] That's like one of my weirdly favorite movies from a childhood. [02:08:33] Yeah. [02:08:34] So I wanted to ask. [02:08:35] Daddy Daycare is weird how it came about. [02:08:37] I was preparing all week for an audition for an Eddie Griffey movie called My Baby Daddy. [02:08:44] So they call me in the morning and they go, hey, we got an audition like an hour for this Eddie Murphy movie called Daddy Daycare. [02:08:51] And I go, no, no, it's Eddie Griffin. [02:08:54] They go, Eddie Murphy. [02:08:55] I said, Eddie Griffin, it's in three o'clock. [02:08:57] I'm arguing with this lady that's not my agent on the phone. [02:09:00] They go, Gary, you haven't auditioned like an hour for this movie with Eddie Murphy. [02:09:06] We know about the other one. [02:09:07] I go, oh, really? [02:09:08] So I drive to the Fox Lot. [02:09:10] I go in. [02:09:11] It was one line. [02:09:12] That's why I didn't have to really prepare. [02:09:13] It was, hey, boys, you got a brand new cereal Veggios, boys and girls. [02:09:16] So I'm looking at it and I go, the fuck am I doing this? [02:09:19] And they, I was, it was all the kids was auditioning that day. [02:09:22] So the whole the waiting room was all these kids. [02:09:26] So when I walked in, I said, hey, can I ask this mom? [02:09:28] I go, can I bring your son into the audition? [02:09:31] So I walked this kid in who has no idea who I am. [02:09:34] And I read for some dad first. [02:09:36] And they said, all right, read, read for the Carrot and the Broccoli. [02:09:39] So I grabbed the kid and I sat him down. [02:09:41] I started snaking around him and started dancing. [02:09:43] And that's when I did the B-R-O-C-C-O-L-I. [02:09:47] I just made that up in the audition room. [02:09:49] And that's the only audition where they go, you got it. [02:09:52] Really? [02:09:52] So I did the song. [02:09:54] They said, you got it. [02:09:55] And I go, oh, no fucking way. [02:09:56] I just the moment you got it. [02:09:58] Yeah, like they were like, you got it. [02:09:59] They was like, Steve Carr was like, bro, where are you from? [02:10:03] Why don't I know you? [02:10:04] He goes, you just killed that shit. [02:10:06] He goes, you're good. [02:10:06] This never happens, by the way. [02:10:08] And I've never had that happen. [02:10:09] I've never heard a story where someone just gives someone the role. [02:10:12] And usually you have to get producers' approvals. [02:10:14] Well, I was in with the producers. [02:10:16] I skipped all the other steps. [02:10:18] I was in with everybody. [02:10:19] The director and producers is there. [02:10:21] Yeah, okay. [02:10:21] So they tell me I got it. [02:10:23] Great. [02:10:23] Then we go to shoot. [02:10:25] Eddie doesn't go to the table reads. [02:10:27] Eddie's not at blocking. [02:10:28] Eddie's not another rehearsal. [02:10:29] So the first time I see him, I'm in this fucking carrot outfit. [02:10:33] Comes around the corner. [02:10:35] And I'm literally this close to his face. [02:10:38] And I'm just like, and I, first, I got stunned. [02:10:41] I go, fuck's fucking Eddie Murphy. [02:10:43] Yeah. [02:10:43] I'm looking like, that's his nose. [02:10:45] He ain't got lotion in his ears. [02:10:47] I'm looking at all his features like this close. [02:10:50] And then he goes, hey, man, I didn't know you were in this. [02:10:53] He bats me up. [02:10:54] He knows who you are. [02:10:55] Yeah. [02:10:55] And I go, whoa. [02:10:56] And he goes, he goes, I love that joke. [02:10:57] I heard he knows stand-up. [02:10:58] Yeah, apparently. [02:10:59] He said, I love that joke about Eminem and Tiger Woods. [02:11:02] And that was a time. [02:11:04] I never knew if he was at the comedy store or not. [02:11:06] He just sit in the back. [02:11:08] So this bit was not on TV. [02:11:10] So clearly he saw the comedy store. [02:11:12] That was a time when I said the world's upside down because the number one golfer is black, the number one rapper is white. [02:11:18] Basic joke. [02:11:19] But he knew it. [02:11:20] And then, so I was like, oh, it kind of felt validated a little bit. [02:11:23] Yeah. [02:11:24] And then we go to do the scene where I'm supposed to do the song. [02:11:30] I don't do the song. [02:11:30] I'm scared now because Eddie's there, right? [02:11:33] So I just start doing it. [02:11:34] Hey, boys and girls, you got a brand new serial videos. [02:11:36] And the director goes, cut. [02:11:37] He goes, where's the fucking song? [02:11:39] And I go, what do you mean? [02:11:40] He goes, the song, the B-R-O-C-L. [02:11:43] I go, oh, I know if you want it. [02:11:44] He goes, that's how you got the part. [02:11:47] So do the song, right? [02:11:49] B-R-O-C-C-O-L-I. [02:11:52] I am the Broccoli and don't know why. [02:11:56] Is Eddie in the room while you're filming the scene? [02:11:58] He's on the other side of that glass thing. [02:12:00] I don't know if he's there or not. [02:12:01] I don't know. [02:12:01] Got it. [02:12:02] It's in a different room. [02:12:03] Great movie. [02:12:04] But we go to the premiere and they blocked off all this shit in Westwood. [02:12:09] They had like a kids' carnival and stuff. [02:12:11] It was dope. [02:12:12] Then Eddie was being so cool that day. [02:12:14] And there was a line of people to get pictures with Eddie. [02:12:16] Yeah. [02:12:17] I'm literally next. [02:12:19] There was a fucking comic that wasn't in the movie. [02:12:21] He was just an aggravating guy. [02:12:23] Like every time you saw him around town, he's just aggravating. [02:12:26] He goes up to Eddie right before I'm going to get a picture with him. [02:12:30] Oh, geez. [02:12:30] And he grabs him and he grabs my back of his hand. [02:12:33] And he started, you could tell he was in his ear going, Motherfucker, you inspiration. [02:12:37] You got to do this shit. [02:12:38] But Eddie was like, bitch, get away. [02:12:39] Like, I got a line. [02:12:41] Huh? [02:12:42] Yeah, if you're Eddie, you're just like, who are you? [02:12:44] Yeah, I got a line. [02:12:44] I go, I'm not next. [02:12:46] Yeah, yeah. [02:12:46] He just fucked it. [02:12:47] Eddie was gone five minutes later. [02:12:49] Yeah. [02:12:49] He just left the whole party. [02:12:50] I go, dude, fucked it up. [02:12:51] I still have a picture with him this day. [02:12:53] It's another Kobe guy, dude. [02:12:54] Yeah, no, the Kobe guy went his back. [02:12:56] He didn't touch him. [02:12:56] This motherfucker touched him. [02:12:59] Back of the head and was like, oh, in his ear, like, motherfucker, I could, you could tell what he was saying. [02:13:03] You know, he did it. [02:13:05] I think Eddie did everything right. [02:13:06] I think there's a lot of times like comedians look at Eddie and they're like, oh, why don't you get back on stage? [02:13:11] Everybody wants to see you on stage. [02:13:12] Or Eddie, why aren't you doing this? [02:13:14] Eddie, why aren't you doing that? [02:13:15] Why? [02:13:16] For me, I look at Eddie and I'm like, okay, he has a huge compound where his entire family can live on it. [02:13:22] He has all these kids. [02:13:23] He wants to spend time with his kids. [02:13:24] And then for a day job, he goes and makes a movie for $10 or $20 million. [02:13:28] And it's only in like the comedian's mindset where we're so yearning for more, we're never satisfied, that we look at Eddie Murphy's career and go, why doesn't he still do it? [02:13:40] Yeah, no, no, he figured it out. [02:13:41] Yeah. [02:13:42] He did it all. [02:13:42] And now he gets to hang out with his family, which is what we should fucking do. [02:13:46] That's who Shannon Sharp should call. [02:13:48] That's how you fuck white women. [02:13:51] And don't get any scandals. [02:13:54] Eddie Murphy does it better than anybody. [02:13:57] Shannon, call Eddie, baby. [02:14:01] He's popping the mixed bags down. [02:14:02] Nobody's paying attention to their coffee beans. [02:14:05] Every fucking week. [02:14:06] With that new blonde. [02:14:07] I'm like, this guy's the person. [02:14:08] He figured it out. [02:14:09] Yeah, he figured it out. [02:14:11] No problem. [02:14:11] No, serving. [02:14:12] Call him, Shannon. [02:14:14] Fuck. [02:14:15] Poor Shannon. [02:14:16] What do you think? [02:14:17] How do you think Shannon comes back from this? [02:14:19] I mean, I think it'd be all right. [02:14:20] Yeah. [02:14:21] There's nothing criminal. [02:14:22] Text messages, huh? [02:14:23] He loses that bag. [02:14:24] 100 million, apparently, he's on the table. [02:14:26] I don't think he's going to lose it. [02:14:28] Yeah. [02:14:29] They did something behind closed doors. [02:14:32] From what I know, the text, they were just into some wild shit. [02:14:35] Yeah. [02:14:35] And you're allowed to be into wild shit. [02:14:37] Yeah. [02:14:38] The weird thing is that a lot of people seem to be almost hoping that it happened. [02:14:43] That's the thing that I never like. [02:14:44] No, I like Shannon. [02:14:46] I like Shannon. [02:14:46] And like, an accusation is an accusation at the end of the day. [02:14:49] It's like innocent until proven guilty. [02:14:50] So, this is an innocent man, and you want to hope that these things didn't happen. [02:14:54] We should all want her to be lying. [02:14:56] Yeah, because if she's lying, that means a woman wasn't assaulted. [02:15:00] We should all hope women are not assaulted. [02:15:03] Yeah, right? [02:15:03] Like, that should be where our minds are, at least. [02:15:05] Yeah, he is an innocent man right now. [02:15:07] And if the girl is not doing a criminal suit, she's just suing for money. [02:15:12] I'm a little suspicious. [02:15:13] Especially anybody that's everyone on this podcast, it had to benefit you. [02:15:18] Yeah, you know what I mean? [02:15:19] So, it's like, how do you want to go back? [02:15:22] Yeah, you know what I mean? [02:15:23] Yeah, I want guys like that that are giving comics like platforms. [02:15:27] Yeah, I want those guys to maintain a clean image. [02:15:30] You're psycho. [02:15:31] You want that girl to not have been for you? [02:15:36] That's one way to look at it. [02:15:38] Listen, man, you're fucking up the bag, bitch. [02:15:40] I never heard that before. [02:15:43] You fucking up my bag, bitch. [02:15:45] My numbers went to the roof after I got my shit, dude. [02:15:49] What are you talking about? [02:15:51] I got it with the Peace Skill New York. [02:15:52] Crush. [02:15:53] I never heard a Peace Skill in my life. [02:15:57] But I did have a lot of people like though, more and I've done the last like two years. [02:16:03] It was people will come up with the meet and greets and like saw the Shashi interview. [02:16:07] Wow, really? [02:16:08] It benefits. [02:16:09] I mean, I'm sure they summon other shit, but that's the first thing that comes out of their mouth. [02:16:12] Yeah. [02:16:13] You know what I mean? [02:16:13] I mean, you crushed that one. [02:16:14] That was really funny. [02:16:15] It was a good one. [02:16:16] The confidence from Shannon in his video saying, drop the tape. [02:16:20] Did you see it? [02:16:21] Oh, yeah. [02:16:22] He goes, drop the drop. [02:16:23] Wow. [02:16:24] I need to preview that. [02:16:26] Submit it. [02:16:26] I was thinking that the 30 seconds are going to drop like this. [02:16:30] The fact that you want 10 out there? [02:16:31] You're crazy. [02:16:32] You got a strong set. [02:16:33] That's worth it. [02:16:35] You edited that wrong. [02:16:40] Bro. [02:16:41] Dropping the tape is crazy. [02:16:42] I think we should all learn: don't film yourself. [02:16:44] Yo, what? [02:16:45] Don't film yourself. [02:16:46] That is the thing. [02:16:47] I don't have the time. [02:16:49] I don't have the wherewithal. [02:16:51] I have no idea. [02:16:51] That's about to happen. [02:16:52] Yeah. [02:16:52] You know what I mean? [02:16:53] That's a different level of confidence, though. [02:16:55] To film it? [02:16:56] To film it and want it out. [02:16:58] Because usually you film something, you watch yourself. [02:17:00] You're like, oh, man, I look way different in my head. [02:17:05] Dude, he's like, whoa. [02:17:06] Yeah. [02:17:07] Do some squats. [02:17:08] I have hair there. [02:17:12] I need to trim my armpits. [02:17:14] What the fuck is going on over here? [02:17:16] Yeah, he said, drop the tape. [02:17:18] Yeah, bro. [02:17:20] We don't all look like Shannon. [02:17:21] That's a good point. [02:17:22] Yeah, he's small. [02:17:24] That's a big motherfucker. [02:17:26] You think you have a good set, and you listen back to it? [02:17:28] You're like, oh, I kind of bombed. [02:17:29] You know what I mean? [02:17:29] Like, that's how I feel like the tape would go. [02:17:31] You're like, oh, drop it, then you see it, and you're like, scrub it. [02:17:35] But yeah. [02:17:36] Free Shannon, man. [02:17:38] I hope he's okay. [02:17:39] Yeah, because I need to get on Club Shashay. [02:17:43] Is he still doing E's? [02:17:45] No, I don't know. [02:17:46] He's still doing my cap. [02:17:47] I think he's still doing his stuff. [02:17:49] He's just not doing the ESPN. [02:17:51] He dropped one with. [02:17:51] I mean, obviously it was tape, but he dropped one with Terrence Crawford and somebody else since all this shit came out. [02:17:55] So episodes are still dropping. [02:17:58] Yeah. [02:17:58] What do you think about what do you think about Kanye's new song, man? [02:18:01] Are you? [02:18:02] Did you listen to that at all? [02:18:04] No? [02:18:05] Don't know any lyric. [02:18:10] I mean, it's on Twitter and it's, I think. [02:18:13] Some of the cousin shit. [02:18:14] Oh, what is that one? [02:18:16] Something about his cousin. [02:18:18] What's his cousin or some shit? [02:18:19] I think he was giving a Fallatio to his cousin. [02:18:23] I see that was someone. [02:18:24] Like Blood Cousin? [02:18:28] Yo, that's a good anti-cousin. [02:18:30] That's a great point. [02:18:31] Is it blood? [02:18:32] Not that it matters. [02:18:33] It shouldn't. [02:18:34] That does matter. [02:18:35] Well, yeah, it does. [02:18:36] Your mom can't be sisters. [02:18:38] Also, minorities just call friends cousins sometimes. [02:18:41] Yeah, no. [02:18:42] That's the point he's making. [02:18:43] It's really aggravated about it. [02:18:45] A bunch of us were assuming that it was blood cousin, but you're right. [02:18:48] Just be a friend of his, and they were just sucking each other's dicks at a young age, which is great for me. [02:18:52] It's still odd. [02:18:53] That is odd. [02:18:54] That is odd. [02:18:56] Yeah, there's that. [02:18:56] That is, are we going to listen to it? [02:18:58] It's some shit. [02:18:59] You just take it to the grave. [02:19:01] Yeah. [02:19:02] Yeah. [02:19:02] Like, Kanye should watch this interview and realize I was very careful. [02:19:06] Yeah. [02:19:06] Like, you didn't say his name the entire interview. [02:19:09] Yeah. [02:19:09] And it was tough. [02:19:10] A couple times it almost came out. [02:19:11] Really? [02:19:12] Yeah. [02:19:12] Yeah. [02:19:13] So hanging with my cousin reading dirty magazines. [02:19:18] All right. [02:19:19] That's enough. [02:19:20] Yeah, we can tell you guys. [02:19:22] I got the gist of it. [02:19:22] I did see a meme that someone said Kanye got his jaw wired shut so he'd stop sucking his cousin. [02:19:33] Here's the crazy story about Kanye was like before the song came out through the wire. [02:19:37] I was in this long time I was in Brooklyn and I was at some like little house party thing. [02:19:43] There was like 30 people there and somebody that had something to do with that video put it on the TV. [02:19:48] I didn't know what the fuck it was. [02:19:49] I didn't know who he was. [02:19:50] And they go, yeah, this dude's going to blow, man. [02:19:52] Literally, you know, this guy's about to. [02:19:55] And it was like some videographer that was helping him with the video. [02:19:58] And then it was like, fucking six months later, he was through the roof. [02:20:02] And the only reason I remembered it is because he had D-Ray in the video. [02:20:05] Oh, that's right. [02:20:07] And so when I watched it, I go, I go, is that fucking D-Ray? [02:20:10] And it's only remembered it because it wouldn't have resonated. [02:20:12] And I wouldn't put two and two together. [02:20:14] But he'd show me it like right before he blew. [02:20:16] Yeah, it was like the arm in the sling joke or something. [02:20:19] He was like doing a joke with him. [02:20:21] And then I'll tell you another crazy story, Eminem's story. [02:20:25] His second video is called Role Models. [02:20:28] So I'm in it, but I'm basically an extra. [02:20:30] But I wasn't an extra when we recorded it. [02:20:32] I was in that bitch. [02:20:34] So Philip Atwell directed all Dr. Dre's videos. [02:20:37] Somehow he got wind of me and was like, yo, calls me on Left Field. [02:20:42] Yo, we got this new rapper, man. [02:20:44] Some said he went out yet. [02:20:46] No one knew who he was. [02:20:48] He goes, we got this white rapper out of Detroit, man. [02:20:50] He's, you know, he's got this shit coming out. [02:20:51] He goes, we're about to do this video, man. [02:20:52] We need somebody to make it funny and punch up a little bit with us. [02:20:56] So I go on this hangar in Santa Monica and we shoot. [02:20:59] And I don't know who he is, right? [02:21:02] And nobody does. [02:21:04] You got to be 20, early 20s at this point. [02:21:06] Yeah, this was right when I'm on BZ and shit. [02:21:09] Right when I got on there. [02:21:10] So I go to the video. [02:21:11] If you pull up role models, I'm an extra in the background. [02:21:13] I'm a cop in the background. [02:21:15] Wow. [02:21:16] I don't even think I've seen this. [02:21:18] Yeah, it didn't pop like the other ones. [02:21:20] He's in a that's me. [02:21:23] There I am. [02:21:24] Wow. [02:21:26] And then so in the video, they had, they go, hey, this guy's getting busted with weed. [02:21:31] And what are you guys going to do? [02:21:32] And so I went to craft services and I had cookies in my pocket, right? [02:21:37] So we were supposed to arrest him. [02:21:39] And then there was, we were laying on top of the cop car. [02:21:42] And the scene was, you think we're arresting him. [02:21:44] And then the three of us are all getting high together on top of the cop car. [02:21:47] So we're looking up at the sky and it's me, the criminal, and then Eminem. [02:21:53] So they passed the weed. [02:21:54] And after they passed the joint, I pulled the cookies out of my pocket. [02:21:57] He started cooking. [02:21:58] And I passed them there. [02:21:59] And it went over well. [02:22:00] Everybody ate cookies. [02:22:01] And then when the video came back, I go, man, they took the cookie party. [02:22:05] Did M ever hit you after you did the even after the joke with Eminem and Tiger? === Arresting Mark Wahlberg Allegedly (05:11) === [02:22:11] No, And he didn't know me. [02:22:13] I didn't know him. [02:22:14] Was he cool? [02:22:14] When you guys were on set, was he nice? [02:22:16] He's funny. [02:22:17] He was just kind of, he was in the wild mode, Eminem, right? [02:22:21] Oh, really? [02:22:22] It was all new. [02:22:23] He was just, he was cutting up with his boys and shit. [02:22:26] And I remember Dre was there. [02:22:27] And I remember Dre just kept after we got there. [02:22:30] She goes, man, you two together. [02:22:32] That'd be some shit. [02:22:33] That'd be some shit. [02:22:34] You two together. [02:22:34] And Dre knew of you at the time, for sure. [02:22:36] I guess. [02:22:37] I don't know. [02:22:38] But I was like this. [02:22:39] I go, yeah, I would. [02:22:40] Would after the fucking Eminem video came out, I go, I hope they call me back one day. [02:22:44] But yeah, that was kind of cool. [02:22:45] It's like before it happened. [02:22:47] You know what I mean? [02:22:47] It's kind of cool to be there. [02:22:49] Whoa. [02:22:50] Did we ever get to the bottom of who Kendrick was talking about? [02:22:53] Oh, yeah. [02:22:54] Wasn't he talking about you? [02:22:55] And then, yeah, I feel like I ran with it. [02:22:57] I go, fuck it. [02:23:00] Oh, that's what we're doing. [02:23:01] People are like, you clout chaser. [02:23:03] I go, that's what we do. [02:23:04] Stand up. [02:23:06] Cloud, clout. [02:23:06] Do all the retention. [02:23:07] The fucking entertainment is clout. [02:23:09] Nobody wants to be an anonymous comedian. [02:23:11] Yeah. [02:23:12] It's just stupid. [02:23:13] Are you clout chasing no fucking Kendrick? [02:23:15] Duh. [02:23:17] That's exactly why I did it. [02:23:20] Comment on Kumo D. [02:23:21] To his credit, you said in your latest special there are no race jokes. [02:23:25] So you did listen to him. [02:23:26] I did. [02:23:26] You did. [02:23:27] This was before the song came out. [02:23:29] So that is the profound effect that he has on white comedians. [02:23:32] There it is. [02:23:32] I stopped. [02:23:33] He stopped immediately. [02:23:35] Dude, I'm so different now. [02:23:36] Yeah. [02:23:41] I learned. [02:23:42] Yeah. [02:23:44] I'm going to be like Mark Wahlberg. [02:23:48] Just get up at 4:30 and eat protein shakes and doing no black shit no more. [02:23:52] Jesus Christ. [02:23:57] Crazy thing about Mark Wahlberg. [02:23:58] That's the first celebrity I ever saw. [02:24:01] I was. [02:24:02] Was he living that entourage life? [02:24:04] It was Marky Mark. [02:24:05] Yeah. [02:24:05] And I was in the Navy and I was in Cincinnati and I was flying back to DC. [02:24:12] And this was before 9-11. [02:24:13] So you could go up to the gate and just hang out. [02:24:15] So I'm hanging out with two of my buddies waiting to see me off. [02:24:17] And then like four black guys, huge black guys are walking across the planet and go, the fuck? [02:24:21] Who's coming off? [02:24:23] And then Mark Wahlberg was in the middle of them. [02:24:25] This is when he just had the good vibration song. [02:24:27] It was always song. [02:24:29] And then he had very, I just remember he was really short. [02:24:31] His calves was huge. [02:24:33] And I just remember it just popped out. [02:24:35] I go, oh, fuck, Marky Mark. [02:24:37] Why I said that? [02:24:38] I don't know. [02:24:39] It just popped out. [02:24:39] I go, Marky Mark. [02:24:42] And then, but that was the first celeb I ever saw in my life, 18 years old. [02:24:47] I think he was doing a concert in Cincinnati that night, some summer series. [02:24:51] But that was the first celeb I ever just saw. [02:24:53] Wow. [02:24:54] At this point, are there any celebrities that come to the show that you might not be familiar with, but your kids are more excited that you met than you are? [02:25:01] Oh, that's a good one. [02:25:03] That's a good. [02:25:05] I'm thinking, dang, that's a really good question. [02:25:13] I don't know. [02:25:14] Because I've heard this happen where it's like, oh, like, I met so-and-so, and my kids were going crazy because they, you know, oh, it's Mr. Beast. [02:25:20] And you're like, who's Mr. Beast? [02:25:21] Bro, you've never had a young kid come up to you like, dude, my dad is the biggest fan. [02:25:24] All the time. [02:25:26] All the time. [02:25:27] That's the only white fucking God, dude. [02:25:29] You know, I know all the coaches in the NFL now. [02:25:33] I know all the coaches, and I'm older than them. [02:25:34] I'm like, what the fuck happened? [02:25:36] You know what I mean? [02:25:37] Like, I'm cool with all the coaches now. [02:25:39] Like, I don't know any players. [02:25:40] Look at the players. [02:25:41] I'm like, I don't know what the fuck. [02:25:42] Yeah, I have a hard time. [02:25:42] Like, I used to really hate a player, this and that. [02:25:44] And now I'm like, this is a cheese. [02:25:46] It's a baby. [02:25:47] Yeah, facts. [02:25:48] OJ came to my show when you're in Miami. [02:25:50] No, Jay Simpson. [02:25:51] And as soon as I started talking to him, I go, I get why people fuck with you. [02:25:54] Why? [02:25:55] Why? [02:25:55] He is the most, he was the most charming person. [02:25:58] I forgot some certain people. [02:26:00] Yeah, yeah, yeah, allegedly. [02:26:01] Allegedly, allegedly, allegedly. [02:26:03] It's the coldest shit he did. [02:26:04] I ain't never seen nobody do this. [02:26:05] He came with two white girls. [02:26:06] Yeah. [02:26:07] And a dude. [02:26:08] Left with zero. [02:26:11] He tells the host, he goes, look, host goes, they said, OJ's here. [02:26:15] And, you know, they bring me out to say hi to him. [02:26:17] And then he goes, yo, give me a, let me know if you're going to announce me that I'm in a room, right? [02:26:22] This is when a Coconut Grove improv was upstairs. [02:26:25] Yeah. [02:26:25] And so the host goes, all right, I'm going to tell this joke. [02:26:28] And I was like, OJ's in the room, right? [02:26:31] So he tells the joke. [02:26:32] He goes, Yeah, we got a big celebrity in the room tonight. [02:26:34] OJ Simpson, this motherfucker moved seats and was sitting between two black girls. [02:26:38] Wow. [02:26:38] He moved over. [02:26:39] He stands up and goes, and the fucking crowd game was standing up, right? [02:26:43] And I was like, did that fucker move away from the white ground? [02:26:46] And as soon as it calmed down again, the fucking went back with the white girl sitting back. [02:26:49] And then afterwards, I'm sitting at the bar. [02:26:51] He starts bullshitting for like 20 minutes. [02:26:54] And the whole time I just want to be like, oh, fuck, did you do it? [02:26:57] But he's just going, where are you from, man? [02:26:59] I was like, oh, that was the coldest game I played in my career. [02:27:02] You know, I played in Buffalo. [02:27:04] We were to Cincinnati man. [02:27:05] I said, man, I ain't never experienced cold like that. [02:27:07] He just started talking about old football games and shit. [02:27:09] I'm 20 minutes in before I went, wait a minute, this fuck OJ Simpson. [02:27:14] I'm just talking football there. [02:27:15] I lost track of everything. [02:27:17] I go, oh, this guy's good. [02:27:18] He's good. [02:27:19] God fucking goddamn. [02:27:21] I lived there like I liked him. === Heat With Special Needs Community (07:51) === [02:27:22] Yeah. [02:27:22] All right, man. [02:27:23] See you later, man. [02:27:24] In that documentary, they were saying when he would like beat him, Nicole, cops get called over there. [02:27:27] And then they just end up being friends with OJ. [02:27:29] I can see why. [02:27:31] You know what? [02:27:31] Hey. [02:27:32] I completely experienced that side of him. [02:27:35] I can see why. [02:27:36] So he charmed you. [02:27:37] Completely. [02:27:37] Celsiopath, dude. [02:27:38] Yeah. [02:27:39] Completely charmed me, bro. [02:27:40] I was like, oh, I'm sitting there talking about Bengal shit and shit. [02:27:43] You know what I mean? [02:27:43] You like Carson Paul? [02:27:45] I think he's pretty good. [02:27:47] You know, just regular shit. [02:27:50] Wow. [02:27:50] I'm curious. [02:27:51] Like, people always talk about how comedy changed from like late 90s into the 2000s. [02:27:55] And today, obviously, it's very different. [02:27:56] In your experience with your audience, have you felt the same change? [02:28:00] You just grow with your audience. [02:28:01] Yeah. [02:28:01] You just grow with them. [02:28:02] So it's the same thing. [02:28:03] How do you feel like the audience has grown or changed? [02:28:06] Or you have grown and changed. [02:28:08] You know what I found? [02:28:09] Like, I know we do. [02:28:11] We talk about me being big with the black community, but a lot of military come out too. [02:28:15] A lot of ex-military come out. [02:28:17] Because I get that a lot. [02:28:18] You get the coins. [02:28:19] Yeah. [02:28:19] Or you get like, dude, you know, they saw a joke wrestleman being military police and shit like that. [02:28:25] So I get that a lot. [02:28:26] So I would say, as far as like what I've noticed, a lot of ex-military be coming out. [02:28:32] You've had your audience for decades. [02:28:36] There was a time, which I don't think is currently happening where like there's a little more sensitivity around comedy. [02:28:42] But when you have your own audience, they understand you. [02:28:44] So you don't feel like you have to change your jokes at all. [02:28:47] Well, you broke it down. [02:28:47] I think you, Shane Gillis, guys like you, you just kind of paved the way a little bit, showing like, look, I'm going to just do me. [02:28:58] You want to be offended? [02:28:59] That's on you. [02:29:00] I'm going to do me. [02:29:01] So I got a little bit of heat with the special needs community back in 2016. [02:29:05] It's the only time I felt like I backed down. [02:29:08] I was really upset about it. [02:29:09] I was like, joke, what was the joke again? [02:29:10] I got a special needs cousin named Tina, and she got an STD. [02:29:14] Yeah. [02:29:15] And when the whole fan was like, Tina got an STD, I was like, Tina's fucking? [02:29:21] To me, that was the bigger deal. [02:29:22] I was so happy. [02:29:25] She ain't missing out. [02:29:26] You know what I mean? [02:29:27] I was so excited for her. [02:29:28] But in my special, I said the word retarded. [02:29:32] I didn't say special needs. [02:29:33] I didn't get the email blast. [02:29:35] Oh, it was just for saying retarded? [02:29:37] Yeah. [02:29:37] Saying the word. [02:29:39] That's all it was. [02:29:39] It had nothing to do with his joke. [02:29:41] And then they came after me to the point where I had just got my reality show, Greenlit, on BET. [02:29:51] They were threatening to go after sponsors like McDonald's and shit like that. [02:29:55] We're going to tell them not to run the ads. [02:29:57] Basically, they were like, we're going to go after you for your TV show. [02:30:01] So I had to literally fly to DC and meet with four special needs people that were telling me how to write my jokes. [02:30:07] And what did they say? [02:30:08] How did they say it? [02:30:12] That's what they did. [02:30:15] And they made sure they had the gamut, bro. [02:30:18] They had a black woman, a black man, a white woman, a white man, and it was the whole gamut. [02:30:24] It was MS. It was the guy that looked like Corky from Life Goes On. [02:30:30] It was the lady that you couldn't tell. [02:30:32] They made sure I was cooking. [02:30:34] Yeah, yeah, yeah. [02:30:34] When that motherfucker told me, I said, well, what am I supposed to do? [02:30:38] And what did they say? [02:30:38] Like, what were they saying? [02:30:40] I said, well, what's funny? [02:30:42] Okay. [02:30:44] Wait, you said that? [02:30:46] You tell me this. [02:30:48] I was like, this. [02:30:51] I go, see it? [02:30:56] So you learned your lesson. [02:30:59] Literally, you can look it up. [02:31:02] Gary meets with the special Olympics. [02:31:04] Last week, we were the darling of the Olympic media. [02:31:07] This week, Gary's doing retard impressions. [02:31:12] This is what Aries does. [02:31:14] This is what God does. [02:31:16] They're good at celebs. [02:31:17] I'm good at special needs. [02:31:20] So there you go. [02:31:20] So you're just telling us a story. [02:31:22] So they're telling you how to tell the joke to make it more. [02:31:25] I told them, I said, I don't blame these four people. [02:31:29] They all had people behind them that were like their people. [02:31:31] I said, I blame you. [02:31:33] I said, you don't want them to be made fun of, which to me says I'm better than you. [02:31:38] If I don't make fun of you, I feel sorry for you. [02:31:41] If I make fun of you, we're the same. [02:31:42] We're making fun of me. [02:31:43] I agree. [02:31:44] They would literally, they couldn't fathom, you know, blah, blah, blah. [02:31:49] I think a lot of times it's protective parents or loved ones, and they just, they see somebody who obviously is going through something very difficult. [02:31:54] And they're like, I just want to protect them from the evils of the world without realizing that maybe they would laugh at it as well. [02:32:00] That part. [02:32:01] I think that's one of the beautiful things of the Love on the Spectrum show, to be honest. [02:32:04] I don't know if you've seen it, which is like you, they showcase how funny they are intentionally and unintentionally, and they show the family also laughing. [02:32:12] And it gives you this kind of like freedom to be like, hey, okay, as long as we're not bullying these people. [02:32:16] Yeah, it's funny. [02:32:17] It's funny. [02:32:17] They do funny shit. [02:32:18] Showcasing the joy is like the most beautiful part. [02:32:20] Yeah. [02:32:21] I think the biggest issue what I learned from it was, especially if you're a parent of a special needs kid, where do you direct your anger? [02:32:30] If I was, I'm with my wife, and I didn't cheat. [02:32:36] I've been faithful to her. [02:32:38] I have a good job. [02:32:39] I've done everything right that you say you're supposed to do in life. [02:32:42] And now I have a special needs child. [02:32:44] Who am I mad at? [02:32:45] I can't be mad at God. [02:32:46] I can't be mad at the child. [02:32:48] There's this comedian that's just told a special needs joke. [02:32:50] So I'm mad at him. [02:32:52] That's where my anger is directed. [02:32:54] And I think that's where it comes from. [02:32:56] It's not. [02:32:57] There it is. [02:32:57] There's the four. [02:32:58] Well, the one girl wouldn't get in the picture. [02:33:00] But the little white dude told me how to tell my jokes. [02:33:04] I need to. [02:33:07] All my stories can be validated. [02:33:09] I've told some doozies a day, but none of them are lies. [02:33:11] I'll tell you that. [02:33:13] Wow. [02:33:14] So you there with George Wallace, Michelle Obama, Shane Gillis, Sam J. George Wallace, Sam Jay, and Corky from Life Goes Off. [02:33:26] It was a fucking, it was a day. [02:33:28] It was a day. [02:33:32] Yeah, they flew me to DC. [02:33:33] Wow. [02:33:34] And I had, and Showtime took it out of my special. [02:33:36] They took that joke out. [02:33:37] But it was too late. [02:33:38] It was already out there. [02:33:39] Wow. [02:33:40] Wow. [02:33:40] That kid is adorable, to be honest. [02:33:42] And I literally was like, they was like, Don't you know? [02:33:44] People are like, don't take it out. [02:33:45] It's fucking art. [02:33:46] I go, I go, bro, nobody's going to notice. [02:33:49] It's already out there on the internet. [02:33:50] If Showtime takes it off their website, if it's going to get my TV show. [02:33:56] It is what it is. [02:33:56] So you were able to do the show because of it. [02:33:59] Yeah. [02:33:59] That was the thing because Showtime had my back, I will say. [02:34:01] But it was like, whatever you want us to do. [02:34:03] I said, sometimes we want to fight just to win. [02:34:07] Yeah. [02:34:07] And sometimes I'm like, I was like, I don't give a shit. [02:34:10] There's a place. [02:34:12] This is what I told him in the room. [02:34:13] They didn't like this joke. [02:34:14] I said, yo, it's 2016. [02:34:16] That special came out in 2013. [02:34:18] And you're calling them slow. [02:34:22] Fuck you been, bitch. [02:34:23] Special been out for three years in that year, man. [02:34:26] But they're the slow one. [02:34:27] You're the slow one, bro. [02:34:28] And they're not even watching it. [02:34:29] There's no way the three of them will watch that special. [02:34:32] No, one person watched it, made a blog or something, and then it just caught wildfire. [02:34:38] There were actors. [02:34:39] Tom Arnold kept DMing me, wanting to talk to me. [02:34:41] I guess he has a special needs son. [02:34:42] Oh, no. [02:34:43] There was another actor that I really liked. [02:34:45] He's in all these action movies. [02:34:46] I guess he's, and they just go on these rants and they just, you know, I'm going, oh my God, dude. [02:34:52] Yeah. [02:34:53] You never saw the joke. [02:34:54] Yeah. [02:34:55] You know, Gary, we love you, man. [02:34:58] We appreciate you. [02:34:59] Everybody, go check out Mint Comedy. [02:35:01] Check out Gary's new special, No S. Gary Owen, no S. Gary Owen, no S. Black people put an S on everything. [02:35:09] Yes. [02:35:09] God bless you, man. [02:35:10] Thank you so much. [02:35:11] Yeah. [02:35:12] This is awesome. [02:35:13] Thank you, guys. [02:35:13] Thank you, man.
