Epoch Times - How Andy Ngo Was Almost Killed by Antifa Aired: 2025-10-18 Duration: 08:10 === Near-Death Encounter (07:30) === [00:00:01] I had never had that type of feeling of dread before. [00:00:05] And I was just wishing and praying in my head that law enforcement were nearby or undercover or around the corner. [00:00:14] I'll see a police car, something, please. [00:00:18] And I kept walking and I, it was dark. [00:00:20] This was 10 p.m. on a Friday night. [00:00:23] So the shadows are casted long from the light lamps. [00:00:26] And I could see as I was walking away, trying to remain calm. [00:00:31] I was still in black block, covered up, masked, my eyes were covered. [00:00:35] I could see the shadows of the group behind me. [00:00:37] They were pursuing me. [00:00:42] Every business was basically closed. [00:00:44] This was a year after the riots that ravaged downtown. [00:00:49] I mean, that finished off any businesses that weren't finished off from COVID already. [00:00:54] The hotel that was open that I went to, the front doors were locked. [00:01:00] Vagrancy had become such a big problem at that point that the hotels in downtown didn't unlock their doors. [00:01:09] So the person at the front desk didn't open it for me. [00:01:15] And the group caught up. [00:01:16] And in one swoop, one of them grabbed at my head and pulled off the sunglasses that I had. [00:01:26] The ski goggles, actually, and the balaclava. [00:01:30] And I was completely exposed. [00:01:32] And I took off running. [00:01:33] And this video I have shared. [00:01:36] It's compiled from multiple surveillance cameras in the city. [00:01:41] And you can see me running for my life. [00:01:42] I never ran that fast before. [00:01:44] I didn't know I could run that fast. [00:01:45] And I'm running through downtown, sprinting, screaming for help. [00:01:52] And nobody helped. [00:01:53] There were people walking around. [00:01:55] This was a Friday night, 10 p.m. [00:01:56] It's not that late. [00:01:59] Cars were in the middle of the road. [00:02:01] I ran in the middle of the cars in the streets at the red light, pounding on like windows and cars, asking for help. [00:02:10] And when the light turned green, they drove off. [00:02:12] And you can see in the video that the group caught up to me and they tackled me to the ground. [00:02:20] In that, my weight plus the weight of the person on top of me just shredded the skin on my leg. [00:02:30] And then as I tried to get up, some other person ran up in black block and just kept punching me until I fell to the ground. [00:02:38] And then that person held me in a chokehold really hard. [00:02:43] And it was seconds in the video. [00:02:45] It felt much longer in my mind. [00:02:47] Maybe from lack of oxygen, I'm not sure. [00:02:50] But that was my one near-death experience. [00:02:54] And I was just thinking about, I was thinking about my family and those I cared and loved. [00:02:58] It was like flashing out almost like almost how you would see it maybe in a film. [00:03:04] Like one person after another. [00:03:06] And I was like, I'm so sorry that I let you down, that I go out this way. [00:03:12] You know, and I could hear like the rest of the anti-film mob catch up. [00:03:16] They were running because I sprinted really fast. [00:03:18] So they were just catching up. [00:03:20] I knew if I go unconscious and I'm unconscious on the ground there, that group will kill me. [00:03:27] They were wanting my blood for months from all the reporting I did in 2020, all the mugshots I released, all the names, all the charges. [00:03:36] They wanted me dead. [00:03:39] And before I passed out from being choked, some journalists ran up. [00:03:44] They caught up with the group. [00:03:46] And the person who was holding me in that chokehold, he held me so tight, by the way, that the blood vessels in my eyes burst. [00:03:58] I was able to get out of that chokehold and I ran to the next thing I saw, which was the Nines Hotel. [00:04:04] And the door I saw was open. [00:04:06] So I just ran in and I was like a madman, barely had my breath. [00:04:12] I was just trying to say the words, call police, call police, call police. [00:04:16] That's all I could say. [00:04:17] And the staff inside the hotel tried to kick me out to the street. [00:04:22] And when they said you have to get up, I said no. [00:04:26] And I sat on the ground. [00:04:29] The only way they were going to get me out was they would have had to carry me out. [00:04:32] I was not going to go back out there because the mob now were amassing outside this hotel, trying to get in. [00:04:39] And the hotel staff refused to call police. [00:04:43] And they said, you need to wear a mask. [00:04:46] They actually pulled out from their drawer a black COVID mask and said, you need to put this now on. [00:04:51] So I'm bloody. [00:04:53] I'm out of breath. [00:04:54] I'm screaming. [00:04:55] Call police. [00:04:57] I was so lucky. [00:04:58] I looked on my body. [00:04:59] I had my phone still. [00:05:01] I thought that it fell out of my pocket when I was tackling on the ground. [00:05:04] I still had it. [00:05:05] So I used that to call 911. [00:05:09] And the mob gathered outside the hotel were pounding on the windows, trying to break in. [00:05:14] Nazi, stop! [00:05:17] You see my face, Andy? [00:05:19] Andy! [00:05:20] You see that face? [00:05:22] You see? [00:05:58] If I didn't escape that area and they got in, they would have finished what they were trying to do. [00:06:05] And so there was a hotel guest who was going up the elevator. [00:06:10] He was like, I'm getting the hell out of here. [00:06:11] There's like this mob outside. [00:06:12] And I ran in after him. [00:06:14] And I said, please let me go up with you. [00:06:16] It was one of those hotel lifts where it requires a car to go up. [00:06:20] So I couldn't just push numbers. [00:06:22] He said, okay. [00:06:23] I went up and I hid in the hotel. [00:06:28] And eventually, finally, a Portland police officer came up to me, escorted me out through this back entrance exit that staff used for the hotel. [00:06:37] So the mob wasn't by there. [00:06:40] There was an ambulance there. [00:06:41] There was a police car by ambulance. [00:06:42] And then the police escort behind took me to the hospital, the same hospital that I was treated two years earlier. [00:06:49] And in there, I saw online in real time all the ANSIFA accounts because they were live streaming outside the hotel. [00:06:57] One of the ANSIFA members, she was, you could see in the video, Andy's in there, Andy's in there at Nines Hotel right now. [00:07:06] And she was threatening me. [00:07:10] And so they knew I left in an ambulance and they were trying to find out which hospital. [00:07:14] So I very narrowly escaped that. === Leaving the U.S. Behind (00:54) === [00:07:18] I left Portland immediately the next day on a flight and went from safe house to safe house to safe house until I couldn't arrange where I would go next. [00:07:26] And the death threats continued. [00:07:31] Nobody was ever arrested over the assault I just described or the 2019 one or any of the death threats. [00:07:42] And I couldn't stay in the U.S. anymore. [00:07:48] I was on borrowed time. [00:07:51] You know, even when I traveled to other places, I had been recognized before by hostile people. [00:07:58] So I couldn't live in hiding anymore and it pained me a lot to leave the country that my parents found refuge in. [00:08:08] It was a very weird thought in my mind.
