Epoch Times - Will SCOTUS End Race-Based Redistricting? | Governor Jeff Landry Aired: 2025-10-17 Duration: 02:11 === Chief's Quest for Colorblind Constitution (02:10) === [00:00:00] The justices spent two and a half hours yesterday peppering the lawyers on that. [00:00:08] That's a long time for those justices to spend on a case. [00:00:12] They could have decided this case in the summer. [00:00:14] They did not. [00:00:15] They chose to put it back on the docket. [00:00:19] It's not something that they do often. [00:00:21] We see them only doing that when they're poised to make a big change at the court. [00:00:27] This case is about fairness. [00:00:30] This case is about equal protection. [00:00:32] This case is about a colorblind constitution. [00:00:37] And I think the chief understands that. [00:00:39] I think for 20 years, the chief has been trying to untangle the court out of redistricting. [00:00:46] And yet, instead of that, he's placed the court deeper into redistricting at each and every one of the cases that the court has decided. [00:00:56] So it's like this web. [00:00:58] They keep trying to get out of the web. [00:01:00] And every time they took a case, they only ended up further entangled. [00:01:04] This is the case that could entangle it. [00:01:06] Justice Roberts had a quote that I've been using throughout many interviews many years ago on a redistricting case. [00:01:15] And he said, the best way to stop discriminating based upon race is to stop discriminating based upon race. [00:01:23] And so that's the trick bag that the court has consistently placed themselves in. [00:01:27] And each time Roberts has tried to maneuver the court away from redistricting cases, it's only further entangled them in it. [00:01:37] And so I think that the chief is really looking for an opportunity to free the court's docket of these redistricting cases because I believe that he believes what I believe in that the equal protection clause of the Constitution is a powerful clause and that the Constitution is a colorblind constitution today. [00:01:58] And so I think that this case is important to the chief and that's why you saw him take a more measured approach. [00:02:08] I think he knows where he wants to land this case.
