[00:00:00]  We now have a $14 billion budget for a city that's only 49 square miles in size.
[00:00:05]  It's a huge budget, right?
[00:00:07]  Huge budget, and the city hall has become a hiring hall.
[00:00:10]  It means we have 34,000 city employees, and if you add the temporaries, We're up to 39,000 employees.
[00:00:17]  That was outrageous.
[00:00:18]  When I first came into city government, I had a huge deficit.
[00:00:21]  I said, we're going to look at all the positions we have.
[00:00:24]  We want essential services and emergency services.
[00:00:27]  So I went from 27,000 down to 25,000.
[00:00:30]  Now today, it's 34,216 plus the temporaries.
[00:00:35]  I got up to 39,000.
[00:00:36]  Let's look at that.
[00:00:37]  Do we really need all this?
[00:00:39]  59 nonprofits working with 70 hotels and working with the homeless issues in terms of outreach and housing.
