Epoch Times - What is So Rewarding To Be A Firefighter? #californiainsider Aired: 2023-11-13 Duration: 00:51 [00:00:00] I was a young firefighter. [00:00:01] We were responding to a young man who had a bee sting and went into anaphylactic shock and was in full arrest. [00:00:07] So I told my partner, I said, we don't have time for an ambulance. [00:00:10] You drive to the hospital. [00:00:11] I'll take care of it. [00:00:12] I'll give CPR. And we took this young child to the hospital. [00:00:16] We ended up saving his life. [00:00:17] Fast forward 20-some years, came to the station, knocked on the door. [00:00:22] I was a battalion chief at the time, and he said, you don't know me, but remember that call on, and he named the street, and you saved my life. [00:00:30] And he's now an attorney. [00:00:32] So those are the things that are so rewarding. [00:00:34] You help a lot of people. [00:00:35] They have chronic medical conditions that you respond on a lot. [00:00:39] You respond on them sometimes twice a week, three times a week. [00:00:42] They become your family, too, and they're happy to see you when they're in distress. [00:00:46] They know it's comforting for them to know that you're there to help them. [00:00:50] The reward, yes.
