[00:00:02]  So let's put the statistics out of the way.
[00:00:04]  If you ask the average San Franciscan living in this city today, is crime on the uptake?
[00:00:10]  He's gonna look at you and think you're crazy.
[00:00:12]  It's gone wild.
[00:00:13]  To the point where the average person is now afraid to go downtown.
[00:00:17]  So yeah, crime is out of control.
[00:00:20]  This isn't the tenderloin of the ghetto anymore.
[00:00:22]  You could be downtown in Union Square, some of the most wealthy districts, and get mugged.
[00:00:26]  You can be accosted by people on the street that are either on drugs, on alcohol, or mentally unbalanced.
[00:00:32]  It's just too commonplace.
[00:00:34]  All you have to do is drive downtown and look at the storefronts that are boarded up.
[00:00:38]  It's astonishing, it's alarming, is what it is.
[00:00:41]  If we don't turn things around, we're going to become another Detroit.
[00:00:45]  And if you ever mention that to a San Franciscan 20 years ago, they'd say it's impossible.
[00:00:50]  But we're on our way.
