[00:00:00]  There's been a concerted effort to deny the increase in crime in California, but we know that homicides increased significantly nationwide by 30%.
[00:00:07]  We now know that homicides have increased in California's largest cities by 17% in the year 2021, and we know that property crimes have increased by 7% in major cities in California as well.
[00:00:18]  That's just the official number.
[00:00:20]  There's good reason to think that crime has actually increased significantly more than that.
[00:00:24]  And the reason for that is that there's just a very large number of people that report that they no longer report crimes, particularly property crimes, car break-ins, shoplifting, because the police don't respond.
[00:00:35]  And the police aren't responding for two reasons.
[00:00:37]  The first is that the police forces themselves have been absolutely decimated.
[00:00:41]  And the other issue is, of course, that the district attorneys are not prosecuting many crimes.
[00:00:46]  And so we've seen a significant rise in crime officially.
[00:00:49]  We've also seen a decline in reports, and we've seen a decline in arrests.
[00:00:53]  So people are not imagining things.
