Epoch Times - Is Moving People Into 15-minute Cities A Bright Idea? #californiainsider #15minutecity Aired: 2023-10-23 Duration: 00:51 [00:00:00] The concept of the 15-minute city, which I thought when I first heard about it was some kind of conspiracy theory, but no, they're serious about this. [00:00:07] The ideal is you can do everything you need to do in your life within a 15-minute walk. [00:00:12] You can work, you can recreate, you can go to the restaurant, you can go to the grocery store, everything within 15 minutes. [00:00:18] But what's really interesting is that happened organically in Hungary because after World War II, the housing stock in Hungary was wiped out by the war. [00:00:26] So they came in and they built this high density in the cities and they moved the people in. [00:00:29] And over time, it was too harsh on the human spirit. [00:00:32] It came to be known as brutalism. [00:00:34] It does something to you. [00:00:35] It makes you lose confidence. [00:00:37] Your world becomes much smaller. [00:00:39] You have a low self-image. [00:00:40] And now when you go to Hungary, the remnants of this high density is where only the very, very poor people live. [00:00:46] And they're trying to move people back out into the villages and rebuild into the villages.
