Time Text
We're experiencing a shift in mindsets as it relates to the enforcement of the law.
Laws like AB 109, Prop 47 and 57 are in place, and I believe the public had the best of intentions when they voted for these things, but were severely misled, and I knew they were about to be misled.
Prop 47 was called the Safe Neighborhoods and School Acts, and I ask people right now, do you feel safe right now?
Most people say no.
What that law did was it turned certain serious crimes and turned them into non-serious crimes.
As a matter of fact, most people tell me they regret voting for it, But I couldn't believe that a couple years later, they voted for Prop 47's evil stepcousin, Prop 57, which turned certain violent offenses into nonviolent offenses, which pulled another level to deliver to release more people into the streets.
Because of that, we're arresting people still.
We're still doing the best we can to fight crime and protect people.
But they're out before the ink drives on our reports.
And the message that gets sent to the criminal element is, you know what?
There's no consequences.
I can do what I want.
If you give the criminal element one ink, they're going to take three yards.
