Epoch Times - How I Got from Hating the Police to Joining the Police #californiainsider #police Aired: 2023-10-21 Duration: 00:52 [00:00:00] I hated law enforcement officers. [00:00:01] I was guided to the thought as an African-American male that the police were inherently my enemy. [00:00:05] I was racially profiled a couple of times that left a negative taste in my mouth. [00:00:08] So I hated police officers. [00:00:10] I really did. [00:00:11] And a friend of mine and an uncle who was a police officer said, why don't you join the police force? [00:00:15] We're looking to hire African-Americans. [00:00:16] They're like, what? [00:00:16] That police force? [00:00:17] Are you kidding me? [00:00:18] Oh, hell no, right? [00:00:19] That was me. [00:00:20] You know, I'm not going to do that, you know. [00:00:22] So... [00:00:22] I ended up joining the police department begrudgingly. [00:00:25] You know, I put my name in so many different hats. [00:00:27] I wanted to be everything but a cop. [00:00:29] And out of all the jobs I applied for, the only one that called me was the police department. [00:00:33] My only goal was to join the police department for three years, make a little money, save a little money, and find something else and get the hell out of here. [00:00:39] But I ended up falling in love, and I discovered that 90% of what was being said about police officers was absolutely false. [00:00:44] I worked with officers from all walks of life, black, white, Hispanic, and they were all just decent people doing a tough job. [00:00:50] They weren't all inherently racist.
