[00:00:00]  California and San Francisco sort of think of themselves as progressive policy leaders.
[00:00:05]  The homeless population in California is greater than the next five states combined in the country.
[00:00:10]  Since I moved there in 1992, there were always more homeless folks in the Bay Area and in San Francisco than other places, but it's quite different now.
[00:00:18]  There are people literally dying on the street.
[00:00:20]  There are people using open-air drug markets on the streets.
[00:00:24]  When you are walking your children to the playground, that's what you're dealing with.
[00:00:28]  In my last few months there, three times I called 911 because I thought somebody was dead on the street from having shot up.
[00:00:35]  I mean, you could see the hit right there.
[00:00:36]  That's not humane, not for the person using, not for the families that live there.
[00:00:41]  There is no justifiable reason to have a policy that allows that kind of human suffering.
[00:00:46]  And yet, it just keeps getting worse and worse.
[00:00:48]  I don't know why anybody is following the lead of San Francisco and California more broadly, but they are.
