Docs Reveal Fauci Gave 4 Scientists Who Pushed ‘Natural Origins’ Narrative $50M in Grant Funding

Good evening.
Just yesterday, a New York Supreme Court judge issued a court order officially blocking the governor's mask mandate here in the state of New York.
He struck it down because, according to him, the mask mandate was not constitutional.
Meanwhile, according to government documents that we here at the Epoch Times were able to get our hands on, it turns out that four prominent scientists, Specifically, scientists who helped to shape the public narrative that COVID had natural origins, well, they received substantial increases in their grant money from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is, of course, the agency run by Dr.
Anthony Fauci.
Let's go through it all together.
This is your daily Facts Matter update, and I'm your host, Roman, from the Epoch Times.
And now let's begin today's discussion right here in the state of New York, where, just yesterday, a judge struck down the New York state mask mandate for being illegal.
Now, in case you live in a state that does not have such things, and maybe you even forgot that masks were a thing, Well, here in New York, Governor Kathy Hochul, she recently reinstated the statewide mask mandate.
That's right, on the 10th of December, so about a month and a half ago, Governor Kathy Hochul, she issued a new mask mandate which forced masks to be required in all public places, as well as public venues, unless those businesses have a vaccine mandate requirement.
Meaning that in the state of New York, businesses had essentially two options.
Either mandate that their customers and their employees show a vaccine card, Or that their customers and employees must wear a mask.
And as she made that announcement, well, here's what she said in a statement back in December.
We are entering a time of uncertainty.
We can either plateau here or our cases can escalate beyond control.
We are heading in an upward direction that I find is no longer sustainable.
I have warned for weeks that additional steps could be necessary.
And now we are at that point based upon three metrics.
Increasing cases, reduced hospital capacity, and insufficient vaccination rates in certain areas.
And indeed, the mask mandate went into effect.
Here in New York City, people were once again hassled by pretty much every establishment if they were not wearing a mask.
And so you had supermarkets, you had stores, you even had corporate buildings forcing people to wear masks in their lobbies.
However, the measure that she put into place back in December was only supposed to remain in effect until January 15th, at which point she said that the state of New York would reevaluate the order based on the situation with the number of COVID cases and the hospitalizations at that time.
And on that front, here's what Governor Kathy Hochul said, and this is potentially one of my favorite quotes from her.
She said this back in December.
It is a temporary measure as long as people follow it.
And frankly, for anyone who has been following the situation for the past, let's say, two years, well, that statement was about as believable as 14 days to slow the spread.
That's because even though visually you can see that most people did follow the guidelines, well, the mask mandate was extended anyway until February, at which point the governor said that she would once again reevaluate the situation then.
However, it looks like there will be no need for her to reevaluate.
That's because, as I mentioned a moment ago, just yesterday, a New York Supreme Court judge ruled that the governor's mask mandate was actually unconstitutional, and he declared that it is null, void, and unenforceable.
Specifically, Judge Thomas Rademaker, he released this order right here, in which he wrote that the governor does not have the authority to impose such a mandate, and that if she would actually like to have such a thing put into place, well, it will require the state legislature to pass a new law.
Here's what the order says in relevant part.
Quote, Here's what he wrote on this front.
Quote...
There can be no question that every person in the state wishes, wants and prays that this era of COVID ends soon, and they will surely do their part to see that it is accomplished.
But enacting any laws to this end is entrusted solely to the state legislature.
While the intentions of Commissioner Bassett and Governor Hochul appear to be well aimed, squarely at doing what they believe is right to protect the citizens of New York State, they must take their case to the state legislature.
The judge then said that the mask mandate was null, void, and no longer enforceable.
Which is kind of amazing if you think about it because according to this order, the state government cannot compel businesses to force their customers to wear masks.
That's unconstitutional.
But at the very same time, to this very day, the city of New York, it still has their vaccine mandate in place.
And that mandate, it has the local city government forcing local businesses to force their customers to either get the shot or get out.
I guess there is a different logic between New York State and New York City.
Regardless though, after this ruling was issued just yesterday, Governor Hochul released a statement saying that she was not all too pleased with it.
Here's what she said.
Now, I just wanted to pause here for a quick moment.
It is the case that after she issued the mask mandate, COVID cases went through the roof here in New York.
So even though the mask mandate was put into place, there was a significant rise in Omicron cases.
Now, did the masks help to prevent more cases?
Would it have been even worse without the mask mandate?
Well, I'm not sure, but I thought that is at least worth mentioning because it's not such a clear-cut relationship between having a mask mandate in place and saying that COVID cases have declined.
Regardless, here's how Governor Hochul ended her statement.
Quote, Now, I know what most of you are probably wondering.
Does this injunction apply to the second mask as well?
And thus far, that's not clear.
We have not gotten clarification from either the state or from the court.
Now, I'm of course kidding, but there is something else worth discussing.
Which is that even though the injunction is now in place, meaning the law of the land, according to the latest update in the court battle, is that neither businesses or schools can deny access to students or customers who choose not to wear a mask, it seems that some people are choosing otherwise.
For instance, House Rep Elise Stefanik She's a Republican House Representative from New York State.
She is saying that she's getting calls from her constituents saying that students are not being let into schools unless they're wearing a mask.
Here's in fact what she wrote on Twitter just earlier today, quote, My office is answering calls from constituents, specifically parents who are informing us That their kids are being kept from entering schools unless they are wearing masks.
This is illegal.
There is no stay on this court ruling.
And that is, in fact, the case because even though the state government has appealed the court's decision, that appeal will take some time.
And until anything happens with that, the injunction, meaning the block, is the law of the land.
And so this mask mandate cannot be enforced.
And so if these schools are doing, in fact, what the parents say they're doing, Well, they are indeed in the wrong.
They're doing something illegal.
Now, we have reached out to Governor Hochul's office as well as to the court for comment on the matter, but we have yet to hear back.
As soon as we hear from either source, I'll let you know right away.
Until then, Roman in the studio, back to you.
And so, if you happen to live in New York, you should know that starting today, if a business forces you to wear a mask, well, that is that business doing it themselves.
They're doing it out of their own volition because they are no longer being forced by the state government.
If you'd like to read more about this mask mandate, including the judge's ruling, I'll throw a link to both an article as well as the PDF of that court order.
It'll all be down there in the description box below this video.
And all ask in return is that you take a super quick moment to smash, smash, smash that like button for the use of algorithm.
And now, let's move on over and discuss the massive funding boost that Dr.
Fauci provided to several scientists who helped to shave the narrative around COVID. What happened there was...
Sorry.
What's this?
Well, that's a great question, Roman.
And it is today's sponsor, which is an awesome messaging and email service provider called Secure.
And it's awesome if you're the type of person that actually cares about their privacy.
Because, I mean, it's no big secret that these big tech companies are mining and remining our data all the time.
In fact, in the year 2020, it was found that over 155 million Americans, likely including you and me, have suffered some form of data breach.
And by the way, that's only what's publicly known.
However, what's happened in the past?
Well, that can stay in the past because with Secure, Your data and your messages can remain private.
And that's because Secure has all of their data centers located over in Switzerland rather than in the US or in China.
And the reason that's so important is that Switzerland has some of the strictest data privacy laws in the entire world, and they are not subject to the intrusive Cloud Act.
And if you want to know what the Cloud Act is, head on over to Secure.com and watch their video on the homepage or on the video tutorials page, which is under their support section.
Now, the thing that I personally love the most about the Secure app Is the privacy aspect of it.
They don't mine my data.
They don't mine my phone number.
They don't mine the phone numbers or data of my friends and family who I chat with.
But best of all is that if your friends and family don't actually use the secure app themselves, it doesn't matter.
Because the way that it works is that when you use their secure send email technology, all of your emails and your messages route to Switzerland, and then the recipient can reply using their secure reply technology.
And so everything remains private no matter what.
And the same actually goes for their messaging app as well.
And they're always coming up with new features.
In fact, the most recent one they told me about, they sent me an email here, was that they're coming up with a new feature called text to chat by invite.
So they're an innovative company and they really do care about your privacy.
And so what they're doing doesn't work with your existing big tech email account.
So check them out.
You can head on over to secure.com.
I'll throw the link into the description box below.
And when you use promo code Roman, you can get 25% off.
And the rates are not even that expensive to start with, by the way.
It's only $5 for the messenger and $10 for the email and messenger combo.
And they even offer a seven-day free trial.
So head on over to their website.
Again, it'll be linked in the description box below.
Use promo code Roman to save some money.
And now, Roman in the studio, back to you.
And now let's move on over and talk about Dr.
Fauci's funding.
According to government documents that we here at The Epoch Times were able to get our hands on, it turns out that four prominent scientists, Specifically, several scientists who played instrumental roles in shaping the public narrative around the natural origins of COVID, well, they received substantial increases in their grant money from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, otherwise known as the NIAID, which is, of course, the agency run by Dr.
Anthony Fauci.
Meaning that the scientists who actually helped to push the narrative that COVID did not come out of a lab, well, they received substantial increases in the amount of funding that came from Dr.
Anthony Fauci's agency.
Now, this entire story is a lot like a giant jigsaw puzzle, and with every new piece, we begin to more and more see the full picture.
And so, let me just briefly set the stage for you.
On February 1st of 2020, Dr.
Fauci organized a rather secretive teleconference in order to discuss a response to the increasing number of questions that the general public had about the origin of the virus.
And on that teleconference, there were three prominent scientists, specifically Christian Andersen, Robert Gary, as well as Michael Farzan.
And according to emails which were later released under a Freedom of Information Act request, these three scientists, during the teleconference, they told Dr.
Fauci, as well as the other scientists who were present, that according to their opinion, at least, they were between 60 to 80 percent sure that COVID had leaked from a lab.
But here's where things get a little bit weird.
Because on the very same day that these scientists were explaining to the teleconference attendees that they were between 60 to 80% sure that the virus had come out of a lab, they also completed the first draft of a paper called Proximal Origin.
And as you might assume, since during the teleconference these scientists were saying that the virus had likely come out of a lab, it would make sense that the scientific research paper that they were working on would say the same thing.
However, according to newly released emails, which just came out about a week and a half ago, what wound up happening was that the initial draft of this proximal origins paper was sent to Dr.
Fauci, as well as to his boss, Dr.
Francis Collins.
And this is where things get very murky, because we as the public, we don't actually know what the original draft of that paper looked like.
However, what we do know is that after Dr.
Fauci and Dr.
Collins had a chance to edit the paper, well, it was published in Nature magazine, and that final published version of that study, it promoted the natural origins theory, and it dismissed the lab leak theory.
Meaning that somehow, the scientists who claimed on that teleconference that they were 60-80% sure that the virus had come from a lab, they published a paper which said the exact opposite.
Which then naturally leads to the next question.
Why exactly did they change their minds?
And thus far, that question has not been answered.
However, the new piece to the puzzle that we were able to find is that after this Proximal Origins paper was published, these scientists, they got a major bump in the grant money that they got from the NIAID, which of course is the agency that's run by Dr.
Anthony And besides these three scientists, by the way, who were responsible for the Proximal Origins article, well, there was a fourth scientist who received a major bump in funding as well.
And that scientist was Dr.
Peter Daszak, who runs the EcoHealth Alliance.
And if that name sounds familiar to you, well, that might be because previously, Dr.
Fauci's agency funded gain-of-function coronavirus research over at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through EcoHealth Alliance.
It's amazing how all the pieces start to fit together.
Now, let's take a look at the actual funding amounts that these four scientists received.
And to start with, it's worth noting where this funding was actually coming from.
Documents show that on August 27th of the year 2020, the NIAID formally announced a new initiative called the Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases, We're good to go.
And so just to give you a visual picture of how this all breaks down, you have the NIH, which is the National Institutes of Health, run by Dr.
Francis Collins.
Under that, you have the NIAID, which is the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, run by Dr.
Anthony Fauci.
And under that, you have this new initiative called CREED, otherwise known as the Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases.
And in terms of the funding, well, Dr.
Anthony Fauci's agency provided 11 grants totaling $17 million of new funding in the first year, and then $82 million in total funding spread out across five years for this new initiative.
Now, one thing that's really notable in terms of the funding is that even though the CREED initiative as a whole was made public on August the 27th, several of these scientists were actually awarded their grant money in May and in June, so several months before the whole thing could actually be scrutinized by the public.
And the reason that's so significant will be made clear in a second.
So let's dig into the individual grants.
So to start with, Mr.
Peter Daszak, who is the leader of the EcoHealth Alliance, he was awarded a relatively hefty $7.5 million five-year grant in order to study emerging diseases in Southeast Asia.
And there's something very, you can say, interesting about the timing of his particular grant.
Because when you look on the application, on the actual application of the grant, you see that it was awarded, at least the part that says award notice date, was on June 17, 2020.
And the reason that is so significant is because back in April of 2020, when the news came to light that Peter Daszak had all these connections to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, well, it was at that time that President Trump Actually took the step, he revoked the earlier grant that Peter Daszak had received from the NIAID. And so think about that for a quick moment.
In April, when the connections between Peter Daszak and the Wuhan Institute of Virology became public knowledge, President Trump went in and he cut the earlier funding that Daszak had received from Fauci.
However, away from the public spotlight, so before the entire initiative was made public, Dr.
Fauci, he went ahead, he set up this initiative, and he granted Daszak an additional $7.5 million.
That was not made public until many months later.
So you can see that's some very interesting timing.
Now, that grant was said to be disimbursed over the course of five years, and so thus far, here is what the research has shown.
Quote, Peter Daszak received a total of $1.5 million in both 2020 and 2021.
Unlike either Anderson or Gary, the other two scientists, proceeds from his Creed grant make up the entirety of his listed NIAID grants in both years.
By way of comparison, Daszak had received approximately $662,000 in NIAID grant money in 2019.
Put another way, Daszak's post-pandemic funding increased by approximately 130%.
And then, let's dive into some of the other scientists.
For instance, you have Dr.
Anderson.
He was one of those four scientists that we listed.
And on January 31st of 2020, he privately...
We know this through the emails that have come forward.
He privately told Dr.
Fauci that the virus looked, quote-unquote, engineered.
And then the very next day, on February 1st, during that teleconference, he claimed to be 60-70% sure that the virus came from a lab.
However, he later then recanted his stance and actually worked to spearhead Dr.
Fauci's narrative that the virus had a natural origins.
And then subsequently, the amount of grant money that he received went up considerably.
Here's specifically what the research says in terms of his grant money.
Quote, Dr.
Anderson received a total of $7.4 million in funding in 2020 as compared to $4.5 million in grant proceeds in 2019.
Anderson's total grant funding increased to nearly $9 million in 2021.
The new CREED grants, co-ewarded with Gary, which is another scientist, accounted for approximately $1.9 million of his 2020 grant proceeds and $2 million of his grant proceeds in 2021.
And so then, let's actually get into Dr.
Gary as well.
During the teleconference on February 1st, he said that, quote, He really can't think of a plausible natural scenario where you can get from the bat virus to SARS-CoV-2.
And then he further cited the remarkable sequences of mutations that would have to occur for SARS-CoV-2 to naturally arise, telling the group, quote, I just can't figure out how this gets accomplished in nature.
And then furthermore, Dr.
Gary noted that a lab-created virus would easily explain the virus data that he was seeing, and he told the group that, quote, in the lab, it would be easy to generate the perfect 12-base insert that you wanted.
Furthermore, Dr.
Gary, who is one of the co-authors of the Proximal Origins Theory paper, he was once interviewed by The Intercept, which is a pretty good publication, and he stated specifically that he was advised during that teleconference to not discuss a lab leak when writing the Proximal Origin paper.
Here's specifically what he told The Intercept, quote, The major feedback we got from the February 1st teleconference was 1.
Don't try to write a paper at all.
It's unnecessary.
Or 2.
If you do write a paper, don't mention a lab origin as that will just add fuel to the conspiracists.
And indeed, not only does it appear that that's exactly what they did, but also it looks like Dr.
Gary suddenly received a boon of funding afterwards.
Specifically, according to the documents that we were able to peruse, Dr.
Gary received, quote, $7 million in NIAID grants in 2020, as compared to $5.7 million in 2019.
Gary also received $6.6 million in grants in 2021.
The new Creed grant, co-ordered with Dr.
Anderson, accounted for approximately $1.9 million of his 2020 grant proceeds and $1.8 million of his grant proceeds in 2021.
And then lastly, you have Mr.
Michael Frazan, who likewise changes views from believing that the virus came from a lab to then later saying that he agrees with the notion that it came from some kind of recombination between a bat and a pangolin.
And he likewise was granted a significant amount of funding afterwards.
Here is what the research showed that Mr.
Mr. Farzan got, quote, Michael Farzan received $9.9 million in grants from Fauci's NIAID in 2020, followed by another $7.9 million in 2021 and an additional $919,000 at the start of 2022.
By comparison, Farzan had received $3.8 million in grant money from NIAID in 2019.
Although Farzan received substantial increases in grant funding, none of that money appears to have come under grants provided by the CREED initiative.
Now, I think it relatively goes without saying, at least at this point, that there is no real known connection between the scientists pushing the natural origins theory and then getting such a large increase in the amount of funding that they were granted from Dr. Farzan.
Fauci's agency or from that sub-initiative under his agency.
However, these documents, they do raise, you can say, sort of the natural and obvious question, which is, out of the many thousands of scientists who would be very interested in this grant money, I mean, think about it, that's 11 grants totaling what?
That's 11 grants totaling $83 million from this CREED initiative.
How is it that three of the individuals who were chosen happened to be the same people who were promoting Dr.
Fauci's natural origins theory, as well as, of course, Dr.
Peter Daszak, who had all those connections to the Wuhan Institute of Virology?
That is interesting.
You know what?
At the very least, what it does is, even though the connections aren't exactly clear, nothing has been laid to bear yet, these documents do offer at least another piece of the puzzle that can give us a clearer picture on what is actually happening behind the scenes.
But that is, thus far, all we know.
And so, you know, I don't want to speculate.
I just want to present you with the facts, then you can make up your own mind as to what you believe.
And now, let's head back to the studio.
If you'd like to read more about this Dr.
Fauci funding, or more generally about how this whole natural origins narrative came to be, well, I'll throw the links to several articles into the description box below this video for you to check out.

Here's a trailer for that episode.
Nearly every mode of information has been co-opted, whether it's Wikipedia online, fact checkers, the news.
In an era of weaponized information, Conspiracy theory, quackery, anti-vaccine.
Anybody who asked a logical, rational question about the safety of a medicine for an individual was suddenly portrayed as anti-vaccine.
Today I sit down with five-time Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist Cheryl Atkison.
She's a host of Full Measure and author of Slanted, how the news media taught us to love censorship and hate journalism.
That crazy thing that they say is a conspiracy theory may well have some truth in it.
