| Good evening, and a very happy New Year. | |
| To start with, four days ago, it was revealed that over 200 Marines have been kicked out of the service for refusing to take the COVID vaccine. | |
| However, that is not the full picture, because when you actually go in and you crunch the numbers, there are still several thousand Marines that are in danger of getting fired due to the vaccine mandate that's being pushed by the Pentagon. | |
| Meanwhile, over at the FDA, they have once again bypassed their own vaccine advisory panel and they authorized the Pfizer COVID booster shot for children between the ages of 12 and 15. | |
| And this, by the way, came just a few days after the FDA issued a separate document which contained a warning for those Pfizer COVID pills saying that they may cause life-threatening reactions when used alongside many common medications. | |
| Let's go through it all together. | |
| This is your daily Facts Matter update, and I'm your host, Roman, from the Epoch Times. | |
| And now let's begin today's discussion by talking about children. | |
| And to start with, three days ago, Dr. | |
| Fauci made a very, you can say, interesting statement. | |
| He said that American hospitals are now over-counting COVID cases in children because children are being automatically tested when they are admitted to a hospital. | |
| Let me just repeat that. | |
| Dr. Fauci said that hospitals are over-counting cases of COVID within the children population because as soon as a child enters the doors of a hospital, he or she is tested for COVID. | |
| Meaning that, for instance, if a kid goes to the hospital because he has a broken ankle, well, as soon as he enters the doors, the hospital will check him for COVID. | |
| And then if he happens to test positive, well, that will then be registered as a hospitalized COVID case. | |
| And if all that sounds familiar to you, well, that is because for the last year, skeptics of the media narrative surrounding hospitalizations have been saying the very same thing in regards to adults. | |
| However, they have been typically dismissed as being some kind of fringe or a conspiracy theorist. | |
| Regardless, though, that is exactly the reasoning that Dr. | |
| Fauci claimed was leading to such a spike in the number of hospitalized children. | |
| Now, the reason that Dr. | |
| Fauci even came out and made such a statement is because at this very moment, there are several news outlets throughout the country which are reporting that hospitalizations among children, children with COVID to be specific, have been increasing over the last several days. | |
| And as a response to that, here's what Dr. | |
| Fauci said in this regard when speaking to a host over on MSNBC. If a child goes in the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID, and they get counted as a COVID-hospitalized individual, when in fact, they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that. | |
| So it's over-counting the number of children who are, quote, hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID. Now again, if you have been following this story for any length of time, then that statement by Dr. | |
| Fauci might be a little bit jarring to you. | |
| In fact, that is very much a significant change in the narrative that's coming out of the U.S. government around the issue of hospitalization in regards to COVID cases. | |
| Because, as you likely know, over the last year, skeptics have repeatedly made the same claims about COVID hospitalization numbers, that they were inflated because everyone who goes to the hospital... | |
| Well, they have to get a COVID test regardless of what they came there for. | |
| However, those skeptics over the past year, they have been largely dismissed as being either fringe people or conspiracy theorists. | |
| And yet, this is now the very same stance that's being taken by Dr. | |
| Fauci. | |
| And in fact, it's not only Dr. | |
| Fauci. | |
| Because likewise, Dr. | |
| Rochelle Walensky, who is the director of the CDC, she also came out and in a separate interview, she said that most children are not being hospitalized because of the virus. | |
| Instead, she said that they are being hospitalized with separate health issues and are then incidentally testing positive for COVID. Here's specifically what she said during a phone call with reporters. | |
| Many children are hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID. However, regardless of the government's shift in narrative, just yesterday the FDA once again bypassed their own advisory panel and they authorized the Pfizer vaccine booster shots for children between the ages of 12 to 15 years old. | |
| That's right. | |
| After reviewing data from Israel, which is one of the most vaccinated countries in the entire world, the FDA came to the conclusion that the benefits of the booster shot for children outweighs any of the potential risks. | |
| Here's specifically what the FDA said as a part of their statement. | |
| The data shows there are no new safety concerns following a booster in this population. | |
| There were no new cases of myocarditis or pericarditis reported to date in these individuals. | |
| Now, the data set from Israel that the FDA was looking at included information on about 6,300 children between the ages of 12 and 15 years old who had received a booster shot. | |
| And as the FDA noted in their statement, they claimed that there were no new cases of heart inflammation among the children who received the booster. | |
| However, there are two things worth mentioning here. | |
| The first is that it's worth noting that at this very moment, the FDA has not released any of the actual documents about their decision. | |
| And so all we have is that statement from them that I read to you earlier. | |
| And second of all, as we mentioned earlier, in making this decision, the FDA has once again bypassed the FDA's own Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, which is a group of experts that serve as the FDA's advisory body on the topic of vaccines. | |
| And you may remember that late last year, in September of 2021, the FDA bypassed this advisory panel for the first time when they decided to authorize the booster shot for people above the age of 16. | |
| And now they are once again bypassing this panel a second time in regards to children aged 12 to 15. | |
| And so, you might imagine, the repeated decision by the FDA as a whole to ignore their advisory committee is starting to draw some real criticism from members of that committee. | |
| For instance, here's what Dr. | |
| Paul Offit, who is a member of this FDA's advisory panel on vaccines, here's what he told us here at the Epoch Times. | |
| The reason we said no back in September was we didn't see the need, a clear benefit, and because myocarditis is always a risk in a younger male age group. | |
| Furthermore, Dr. | |
| Offit told us that in his opinion, the initial two-dose vaccine treatment is still holding up well in protecting people against severe disease. | |
| Meaning that in his opinion, even though the two-dose vaccine treatment is not able to protect as well against infections, it is still able to protect against severe symptoms. | |
| And therefore, if you authorize a booster shot for everyone, everyone aged 12 and above, Then the FDA will just be causing confusion among the population. | |
| Here's what Dr. | |
| Offit told us once again here at the Epoch Times. | |
| People would think, I'm not going to be protected against this disease at all unless I get a third dose. | |
| And that's certainly not what people are seeing in hospitals. | |
| Regardless though, now that the FDA has officially recommended the booster shot for children, it will now be up to the CDC to make the final call. | |
| And so, likely within the next week or so, we will know whether the CDC will recommend boosters to everyone above the age of 12. | |
| And then subsequently, we'll have to wait and see whether the government will then begin pushing the booster shots using mandates in the same way that they pushed the initial two doses. | |
| I guess only time will tell. | |
| Although, by the way, just as a super quick aside, while some people are wary of these types of vaccine and booster mandates being pushed upon their children, well, to be frank with you, that's actually not the worst thing that can happen. | |
| What do I mean by that? | |
| Well, three days ago, here in New York, a woman was arrested after allegedly injecting a child with the vaccine on New Year's Eve. | |
| Let me just repeat that. | |
| A 17-year-old boy was over at a 54-year-old woman's house on New Year's Eve when, without the consent of his parents, this woman injected the young boy with what is believed to be the COVID-19 vaccine. | |
| The boy then went home. | |
| He told his mother. | |
| The mother was shocked. | |
| She alerted the police, who then arrested this woman. | |
| Here's what the local county's police office said in the statement. | |
| Now, frankly, there are still a lot of questions in this particular case, such as, what was the boy doing at this woman's house? | |
| How did she even get the COVID vaccine in the first place, given the fact that she was not a nurse or a medical professional? | |
| And generally, what were the circumstances surrounding this whole case? | |
| There are still a lot of things that are unclear. | |
| We here at the Epoch Times, we actually did reach out to the local county police office for comment, but we have yet to hear back. | |
| Regardless, though, the woman was charged with unauthorized practice of a profession, and she is scheduled to appear in court on January the 21st. | |
| And so we might find out more about this case when she actually appears before a judge. | |

| And now let's move on over and talk about the COVID pill. | |
| And to start with, you might remember how late last year, prior to receiving any form of authorization, the Biden administration signed a $5.3 billion contract with Pfizer, agreeing to purchase 10 million treatment courses of Paxlovid. | |
| Paxlovid is the name of the COVID pill. | |
| And if you do the math on that, if you divide 10 million treatments by $5.3 billion, that would mean that each of these Pfizer COVID pill treatment courses is roughly $529, although that is just what they charge the U.S. government. | |
| Here's what the Department of Health and Human Services said regarding that $5.3 billion contract. | |
| Pending emergency use authorization, the U.S. will receive doses starting in 2021 and throughout 2022 as part of a contract agreement with Pfizer. | |
| And indeed, just a few weeks after signing that deal with the Biden administration, the FDA granted Pfizer emergency use authorization for the Paxilvid COVID pill, meaning that the $5 billion sale to the U.S. government can in fact now go through. | |
| Here's what the FDA said in announcing their authorization. | |
| According to Pfizer, the way that this COVID pill actually works is that it's to be taken twice per day for five days in combination with another drug called ritonavir. | |
| And they say that this combination, this two-drug combination, This breakthrough therapy, which has been shown to significantly reduce hospitalizations and deaths and can be taken at home, We'll change the way we treat COVID-19. | |
| And indeed, according to research that was sponsored by Pfizer, this new pill treatment is able to reduce the risk of death or hospitalization from COVID by up to 89% if it's taken shortly after symptoms appear. | |
| Although again, that was Pfizer's own research, so take it with a grain of salt. | |
| You should probably read through it yourself. | |
| I'll throw a link to it in the description box below. | |
| Regardless though, not everything is rosy regarding this new Paxilivit treatment. | |
| Because according to a PDF fact sheet that the FDA released regarding this new drug, they wrote that Paxilovid can potentially cause severe or even life-threatening effects when it's used in combination with several common medications, including some anticoagulants, antidepressants, some cholesterol-lowering drugs, some HIV medication, some hepatitis C antivirals, some antipsychotic drugs, certain types of contraceptives, certain types of sedatives, and so on. | |
| The list is relatively long. | |
| And then furthermore, in that same fact sheet, the FDA also noted that they do not recommend Paxilivid for people with either severe kidney or liver disease. | |

| Now, let's move on over and talk about the U.S. military. | |
| Four days ago, it was reported that the Marine Corps has kicked out 206 active-duty Marines because those Marines refused to take the COVID vaccine. | |
| Although, when you actually look at the numbers, these 206 Marines might only represent the first wave of personnel who gets kicked out. | |
| Why? | |
| Why? | |
| Well, the deadline for the active duty Marines to get fully vaccinated was November the 28th, while the deadline for reserve units to get fully vaccinated was December the 28th. | |
| And so, if you take a look at some of the numbers that came out of the Pentagon, here's what you find. | |
| There are approximately 180,000 active duty members of the Marine Corps at present, and then there are another approximately 35,500 reserve units. | |
| And according to official data from the Department of Defense, as of those two deadlines that we mentioned earlier, 95% of all active duty Marines had received at least one dose of the vaccine, while for the reserve units, that number was 86% who received at least one dose. | |
| Meaning, based on these numbers, that around 8,000 active-duty Marines, as well as 5,000 Marine Reserve units, face the prospect of being fired for refusing the COVID vaccine. | |
| Although you might look at those numbers and say, wait a minute, hold on a second, Roman. | |
| Maybe those people are just in the process of getting some kind of religious exemption. | |
| And perhaps they are. | |
| Here's in fact what Captain Andrew Wood, who is a Marine Corps spokesperson, here's what he said in regards to this matter. | |
| The Marine Corps is still tracking 1,007 approved administrative or medical exemptions. | |
| Although, given the Marine Corps track record on this particular issue, it is highly unlikely that these individuals will be given any form of religious exemptions. | |
| In fact, according to an official statement, as of today, the U.S. Marine Corps has denied 3,115 of the 3,247 religious exemption applications that they have received. | |
| Which, when you actually do the math, that means that they have denied about 96% of the applications that they have received. | |
| And the remaining 4% have not been accepted. | |
| Instead, they are still under review. | |
| In fact, as of today, no branch of the U.S. military, not a single branch, has granted one exemption to the COVID vaccine. | |
| Not even one. | |
| Religious exemption at least. | |
| Meaning that these remaining religious exemption applications will be likely denied as well. | |
| Now, some of the unvaccinated Marines are not seeing this as a medical issue, but rather they are saying that this is more of a political purge. | |
| Here's in fact what one major within the Marine Corps, who's been in the service for 17 years, here's what he told Fox News under the condition of anonymity. | |
| There's something fundamentally wrong at this point with our nation's leadership. | |
| However, as all this is happening, the new year brought a bit of irony to the situation. | |
| Because on January the 2nd, so just two days ago, Mr. Lloyd Austin, who is the U.S. Defense Secretary, and he's the one who's actually been pushing all these mandates on the armed forces, well, he tested positive for COVID. | |
| That's right, Mr. Lloyd Austin, who is fully vaccinated, who has received a booster shot three months ago, he tested positive for COVID, and he is currently quarantining at home. | |
| Here's what he said as a part of a statement back on Sunday. | |
| In that same statement, he also noted that he has not been in contact with Joe Biden, and that the last time he was actually at the Pentagon was on Thursday, where he met briefly with a few members of his staff while he was wearing a mask. | |
| Now, according to Mr. | |
| Lloyd Austin, he was told by his personal physician that the booster shot which he received three months ago, quote, rendered the infection much more mild than it would otherwise have been. | |
| And then, to finish off his statement, he also added this. | |
| The vaccines work and will remain a military medical requirement for our workforce. | |
| I continue to encourage everyone eligible for a booster shot to get one. | |
| This remains a readiness issue. | |
