America's First Mask Mandate for Private HOMES Goes into Effect in Santa Cruz County | Facts Matter

Good evening, and I hope that you had a lovely and government-approved Thanksgiving.
And specifically, I'm referring to the people over in Santa Cruz, California, who were ordered by their local government to wear masks in their very own home.
Hope you guys complied with that order.
Meanwhile, as the Biden administration is pushing vaccine manufacturers to increase their production, it's worth considering the state of several highly vaccinated countries across the globe.
For instance, both South Korea and Ireland, they both have over 90% of their adult population fully vaccinated.
And yet, both countries are currently seeing a spike in COVID cases.
And it's exactly this reality which had Dr.
Fauci recently come out And announce that the federal government is considering changing the definition of fully vaccinated to include booster shots.
And all the while, if you're wondering whether all this COVID infrastructure, like the mandates and all these passports, whether they'll be used for something else, well, over in Canada, for the first time ever, a woman was just diagnosed with having climate change.
Let's go through it all together.
This is your daily Facts Matter update, and I'm your host, Roman, from the Epoch Times.
And now let's begin today's discussion over in California.
More specifically, over in Santa Cruz County, which has just issued a mask mandate for all indoor settings, including in people's We're good to go.
Now, of course, many of us, specifically those of us who live in big cities, we are already, quite frankly, used to these types of orders.
In fact, I was in Los Angeles just earlier this week, and pretty much every single shop that you go into, they require a face mask while you are indoors.
However, this order from Santa Cruz, it definitely takes it up a notch.
Just listen to what this order says.
Quote, masks must be worn in private settings, including your home, when non-household members are present.
To help assure compliance, all businesses and governmental entities must require employees to wear masks and post signage that is clearly visible and easy to read at all entry points for indoor settings, informing the public of the mask requirement.
Those working in a closed room or office alone or with members of their household do not have to wear a mask, and masks are not required during indoor activities where they cannot be worn safely, such as eating, drinking, swimming, showering in a fitness facility, or obtaining medical or cosmetic services.
Now, they did mention showering in a fitness facility, but they did not clarify whether showering in your own home requires a face mask.
Now, regardless, though, I'd like to reread the first sentence of this paragraph.
Quote, Masks must be worn in private settings, including your home, when non-household members are present.
What's interesting to note is that Santa Cruz County was initially, at least, the first county in all of California to drop their mask mandate.
However, as this notice makes crystal clear, they are now not only reinstating the mask mandate, But obviously, they are taking it up a notch as well.
Now, the reason for this, according to the county's health commissioner, is due to the rise in COVID cases within the county.
Here's specifically what Dr.
Gail Newell, who is the local head of the Agency of Health in Santa Cruz County, here's what she said in the statement, quote, As we look forward to spending time with those we love during the holidays, it is important to protect vulnerable friends and family members by wearing a mask indoors.
Everyone who has not been vaccinated should get their first dose as soon as possible and anyone who was vaccinated more than six months ago should seek out a booster.
Now, to pause here for a moment, you might be asking yourself, how in the world is the government going to enforce a mask mandate within my own home?
Because again, you would imagine this is just a suggestion, right?
However, the way that this document is actually laid out, the way that it's written, it's actually clearly in the form of an order.
Because again, right here at the very top, it says, quote, Again, the key words there are order and requiring.
And then if we go down the statement a little bit, that same sentence that we read a few times, it says that masks must be worn in private settings.
It doesn't say that they are suggested to be worn.
It's not that they are recommended to be worn.
It says that they must be worn.
So you might be asking yourself, how is this exactly going to be enforced?
Well, it's not exactly clear because although they do lay out how in order to help assure compliance, All businesses and governmental entities must require their employees to post signs in order to tell people that this is now mandated.
In private settings, it is not exactly clear how they will enforce this compliance.
Although, if you think about it logically, there are only a few options.
Either people will use the honor system.
Government officials could scan people's Facebook pages to see whether there are any photos of people without masks.
Or, just like you had in the Soviet Union, you could have family members report each other to the government.
And according to this op-ed here in The Atlantic, that is exactly what some people are pushing towards.
Specifically, in that article, which is titled, Deprogram Your Relatives This Thanksgiving, here's what the author had to say.
Maybe you'll even change a heart or a mind.
Maybe you'll bring down the temperature just a tiny bit.
Or maybe you'll need to report a relative to the FBI. Either way, it's something to do besides just eat.
It looks like a certain strain of authoritarianism might be alive and well.
Regardless, though, let's get back to this order and discuss a different aspect of this letter.
The health office of Santa Cruz, they specifically required everyone to wear masks, but also, in regards to getting vaccinated, here is what Dr.
Gail Newell, who is again the health officer of the county, here's what she wrote.
Everyone who has not been vaccinated should get their first dose as soon as possible, and anyone who was vaccinated more than six months ago should seek out a booster.
Now, when you actually go on over to the county's official health website, you can find that, as of today, about 72% of the people who live in Santa Cruz County have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine, while 67% have become fully vaccinated.
However, in this letter, the health commissioner, she suggests that people who have become fully vaccinated more than six months ago, they should seek out a booster shot, which is, of course, a tacit acknowledgement that the efficacy of the vaccine, the original treatment of the vaccine, wanes over time.
In fact, there were two stories that I just read over the weekend that illustrate this point very succinctly.
One came out of South Korea.
Now, in case you don't know, South Korea has one of the highest vaccination rates in the entire world.
In fact, according to their own official government figures, 78% of all Koreans have been fully vaccinated.
And then when you only look at the adult population, meaning that everyone above the age of 18, 91% of South Korean adults have been fully vaccinated.
Think about that.
91%.
That's almost everyone.
And for your reference, by the way, America, we're currently at 59% fully vaccinated.
And of course, the Biden administration is currently ramping up vaccine production in order to get that number higher.
In fact, if they can get the number all the way up to 91%, just like over in South Korea, I would imagine they would tout that as a huge achievement.
However, and this is the very crux of the issue that I'm trying to highlight here, which is that despite being over 90% vaccinated, South Korea is at this very moment currently seeing a surge in COVID cases.
Again, they are almost universally vaccinated, but then they are also seeing a surge in COVID.
And then likewise, the Republic of Ireland, they are likewise an extremely vaccinated country.
According to their official government estimates, just like over in South Korea, a full 90% of Ireland's population is fully vaccinated.
However, despite that fact, they are seeing such a huge COVID surge right now that they are once again reimposing their COVID restrictions.
Again, despite the fact that they have 90% of their adults fully vaccinated.
And so these two different examples shed some light on what is happening in our country, in America right now.
Because obviously, the federal, state, and different local governments throughout the country, they are pushing very hard to get more and more people vaccinated, to the point where tens or even maybe hundreds of thousands of people are getting fired from their jobs with the rollout of these different vaccine mandates.
However, given the examples that we're seeing out of these other countries, like Korea and Ireland, it's not necessarily the case that if we achieve 90% vaccination here in America, things will just magically go back to normal.
Because consider something for a moment.
America is currently about 60% fully vaccinated.
And this is at a time when the vaccines are free.
Some cities, like New York, they're actually even paying people to get the vaccine.
The media outlets across the country are touting the benefits of the vaccine 24-7.
And in many places, it's becoming less and less convenient to be unvaccinated.
And yet, still, only 60% of the U.S. population has chosen to get the shot.
And so, the government is imposing stricter and stricter mandates, limiting people's ability to work, to travel, to shop, to eat, to watch movies, etc., in order for them to get the shot.
And yet, even with these restrictions, the number sits at about 60%.
And so in this environment, to go from 60% to 90% here in America would, I imagine, require some very, very heavy-handed government mandates.
In fact, many people would have to very likely be heavily coerced in order to consent to getting the shot.
However, let's say that actually happens.
Let's say the government goes extremely heavy-handed and it breaks the resistance of an additional 30% of Americans so that they get the shot.
And so then America went from 60% to 90% vaccinated, which sounds great.
However, just as we saw with the examples over in Ireland and South Korea, that might likely not be the end of it.
Because like in those countries, we might still see surges in COVID. And therefore, what will likely happen is that the definition of being fully vaccinated will change.
And by the way, that is just not me saying it, but rather it is Dr.
Fauci himself.
And I'll tell you about what comments he made in a quick moment after a super quick introduction of today's sponsor.

And now let's move on over and talk about Dr.
Fauci.
Five days ago, Dr.
Fauci said that if the data supports it, the definition of being fully vaccinated could be changed at the federal level to include doses of the booster shot as well.
Here's specifically what Dr.
Fauci said during an interview over on ABC. We are going to take a look right now at what the durability is of the booster.
We're going to follow people who get boosted.
People should not be put off by the fact that as time goes by and we learn more and more about the protection, that we might modify the guidelines.
That's what we've been saying all along.
Our agency will just follow and let the data guide our policy and let the data guide our recommendations.
Furthermore, during that same interview, Dr.
Fauci hinted at the fact that there might be more booster doses on the way, meaning that if the booster doses display the same waning efficacy rate as the original vaccine doses, well, here's specifically what Dr.
Fauci said.
If the data shows we need to do it more often, then we'll do it.
But we want to make sure we get the population optimally protected and you do whatever you need to do.
Now, what's really interesting to note here is that the comments that he made over on ABC seem to be in direct contradiction to other comments that he made just earlier this year.
During the 2021 stats summit, here's what Dr.
Fauci said.
A booster is not an add-on, and a booster is a part of what the original regimen should be, so that when we look back on this, we're going to see that boosters are essential for an optimal vaccine regimen.
And so, depending on which interview of Dr.
Fauci's you listen to, Dr.
Fauci's either considering changing the definition of fully vaccinated, but he's still not sure, or he's always known that booster shots would be necessary for the optimal vaccine regimen.
Regardless of which option it is, we're already starting to see this play out in the real world.
For instance, the governors of both New Mexico as well as Connecticut, both of whom are Democrats, they recently stated publicly that they will change the definition of what it means to be fully vaccinated to include booster shots.
Here's in fact what the governor of New Mexico said in a recent statement: "We are analyzing what we can do to create those incentives and potentially mandates for making sure that people are fully vaccinated, which means three vaccines." Likewise, you have countries like France and Israel, which actually deactivate their vaccine passports six months after a person gets their second dose.
Meaning that if the person would like to continue going to gyms, restaurants, and movie theaters, they need to get the booster shots or else their pass deactivates.
However, having said that, it is worth mentioning that a lot of people are expressing concern about the amount of power that the government is grabbing in the name of a health crisis.
Because, think about it, if the government can mandate that you wear a mask inside your own home, if the government can threaten your livelihood if you don't get the shot, or if the government can issue you a health pass that deactivates when you haven't gotten your most recent booster, Well, who's to say that this will only be used to fight COVID? And in fact, along the line of what this might be used for later, just last week over in Canada, for the first time ever, a woman was diagnosed with climate change.
That's right, a doctor over in Canada, he diagnosed his patient as suffering from climate change.
What happened was that over in Canada, there was a heat wave over the summer, and a woman in her 70s, she was admitted to the emergency room because she was suffering from diabetes as well as heart failure.
The doctor on call, he said that her generally frail condition, it was worsened by the heat wave, and so therefore, he put the words climate change onto the patient's chart.
Here's specifically how the doctor in question explained his decision to local media.
If we're not looking at the underlying cause, and we're just treating the symptoms, we're just going to keep falling further and further behind.
Now, what was specifically happening in Canada at this time was that the combination of the heat wave as well as that summer's wildfires and the smoke that came from them wound up killing about 500 people.
And this doctor, being exasperated by the situation, he officially attributed this woman's condition to climate change.
Here's again what the doctor said during an interview.
It's hard to see people, especially the most vulnerable people in our society, being affected.
Furthermore, this diagnosis in Canada comes on the heels of an article that was published in the Lancet Medical Journal within just the last month, wherein over 100 doctors, as well as health experts, they warned that climate change was posing the greatest global risk to human health in this century.
However, in that very same article, those doctors, they also said that climate change presents, quote, the greatest opportunity to redefine the social and environmental detriment of health.
And then think about it.
What better way to capitalize on this particular opportunity than through government mandates as well as government health passports Although, frankly, we'll have to just wait and see.
Only time will tell whether that's what actually will happen.
