Epoch Times - Larry Elder Debunks Hater’s Comment on Denzel Washington Viral Video | Larry Elder Aired: 2021-02-08 Duration: 10:14 === Underfunded Schools & Neighborhoods (05:54) === [00:00:03] You know, the video we did on Denzel Washington's positive attitude about America is now approaching two and a half million views. [00:00:10] But this gentleman was not happy. [00:00:13] Rubbish. [00:00:15] Black people live in underfunded neighborhoods and schools that are underfunded. [00:00:20] Then you ask them to compete with better educated kids. [00:00:23] These black conservatives never criticize white conservatives their master. [00:00:29] He, I'm assuming he's referring to me, he has only strength for black people. [00:00:33] He is just a paid mouthpiece for whites who surrounds himself with white women as usual, end of quote. [00:00:40] Goodness, another satisfied customer. [00:00:43] I guess I'm not in the will. [00:00:44] Let's start with his last comment first. [00:00:46] Surrounds himself with white women? [00:00:48] What is the relevance of my personal life to my views? [00:00:54] But let's play that game. [00:00:55] Surrounds himself with white women as usual, meaning conservatives surround themselves with white women and liberals don't. [00:01:03] Tell that to Van Jones. [00:01:05] He's now divorced. [00:01:06] But what about Don Lemon? [00:01:09] No, he wasn't married to a white woman. [00:01:12] He's married to a white man. [00:01:14] We're going to take a hot second to congratulate our friend, John Lemon, who just got engaged to his long time. [00:01:19] Welcome to Malone! [00:01:21] Woo! [00:01:22] Congrats! [00:01:23] Very handsome couple. [00:01:24] They're both, as far as I know, hard, hard lefties, so... [00:01:28] Underfunded neighborhoods. [00:01:30] I have no idea what that even means. [00:01:32] Are you saying that taxpayers should give poor neighborhoods more money because they're black? [00:01:39] What are you saying? [00:01:40] The gentleman also said underfunded schools. [00:01:44] It's not true. [00:01:45] In order to get the true cost of an education, you need to add in all the expenses school districts typically leave out. [00:01:52] Houston School District offers a pretty straightforward example of how districts obscure school spending from parents and taxpayers. [00:02:01] Houston's stated per-pupil spending comes from the general fund alone. [00:02:04] That excludes 16 other education funds from debt service payments and capital expenses to health insurance and athletics. [00:02:13] When we add that spending back in, per-pupil spending is $12,500. [00:02:18] That's 50% more than the district claims. [00:02:21] We've also looked at the District of Columbia, where spending is anything but straightforward. [00:02:26] DC doesn't even publish a per-pupil spending figure. [00:02:29] It took dozens of phone calls and emails over the course of a month to get an official figure. [00:02:35] They say they spend about $17,500. [00:02:38] All capital expenditures are excluded from that figure, as if children don't need classrooms and buildings to learn it. [00:02:45] When you add that, along with all the other education items, back into the budget, you get $28,000 per student. [00:02:52] There is no more prominent left-wing think tank than the Brookings Institution. [00:02:58] And they looked at this and they were surprised. [00:03:01] It turns out urban schools are better funded than suburban schools. [00:03:06] Do school districts spend less money on poor and minority students? [00:03:12] Quote, we find that on average, poor and minority students receive between one to 2% more resources than non-poor or white students in their districts, equivalent to about $65 per pupil, end of quote. [00:03:29] As mentioned, Brookings was surprised. [00:03:34] We hypothesized that wealthier districts would under-allocate resources to poor and minority students. [00:03:40] We reasoned that parents with greater resources could more effectively navigate the local political system, making it easier to secure a greater share of school spending for their children. [00:03:51] Reasoning similarly, we also expected To find that in districts with greater income inequality and segregation, poor and minority students would receive a smaller share of school resources. [00:04:06] In many cases, however, we find just the opposite. [00:04:10] In richer districts, poor and Hispanic students receive more school resources relative to their non-poor and white peers in the same districts. [00:04:21] Districts with more segregation, whether socioeconomic or racial, tend to spend more on poor and minority students relative to non-poor and white students, end of quote. [00:04:35] These black conservatives, he said, never criticize their white conservative masters. [00:04:45] Master? [00:04:47] Slavery has been abolished since 1865? [00:04:53] 13th Amendment? [00:04:54] Maybe you heard about it? [00:04:55] So if a black person has a point of view who's conservative that you disagree with, he is therefore doing his master's bidding. [00:05:05] Do liberals do the bidding of their masters or do liberals not have masters? [00:05:11] I'm confused. [00:05:13] And here's another one I got from a gentleman who said, Larry, you keep saying there's no racism. [00:05:18] At that point, it's difficult for me to finish reading the sentence because Larry has never said there's no racism. [00:05:24] Here's what Larry has said. [00:05:26] Back in 1997, what's that, 23 years ago, Time and CNN did a massive survey of black teens and white teens. [00:05:35] And they asked them whether racism was a major problem in America. [00:05:38] Not too surprisingly, both black teens and white teens said yes. [00:05:41] But then they asked the black teens the following questions. === Sandy Koufax's Complaints (03:46) === [00:05:46] Is racism a big problem? [00:05:47] A small problem? [00:05:49] Or no problem in your own daily life? [00:05:51] 89% said racism was a small problem or no problem in my own daily life. [00:05:58] In fact, more black teens than white teens said, failure to take advantage of available opportunities is a bigger problem than racism, end of quote. [00:06:09] That was 23 years ago, before the election and re-election of Barack Obama. [00:06:15] Larry, who was your favorite baseball player growing up, somebody asked me. [00:06:18] That's simple. [00:06:19] Sandy Koufax. [00:06:21] He found an empty seat behind home plate and began to roll. [00:06:25] For decades, the film sat forgotten in a closet. [00:06:29] Now recently uncovered and restored, a glimpse of Sandy Koufax on a night that maybe got himself created specially for his own left arm. [00:06:53] Batter after batter, Koufax was pitching with mastery, precision, concentration, and a fastball that split the night. [00:07:02] *music* With his handheld camera, the Dodgers trainer was capturing history. [00:07:10] Till there were two out in a third. [00:07:13] And Bill Buehler ran out of film. [00:07:16] Sandy Koufax was amazing. [00:07:18] He had a period of maybe five, six years that were better than any pitcher, I think, in Major League history. [00:07:26] And my first thing I ever wrote was a poem about Sandy Koufax. [00:07:29] It got published in our little publication we had in the seventh grade. [00:07:34] Fast forward several years later, I meet Sandy Koufax at a black tie affair in Beverly Hills. [00:07:41] And I was with a publicist who knows everybody. [00:07:43] And I said, is there any way you can get me to just Introduce me to Sandy Koufax. [00:07:49] Is that possible? [00:07:50] He said, I'll find out. [00:07:51] Goes away, comes back a few minutes later, comes back and says, follow me. [00:07:54] We walk down to the front table where Sandy Koufax was. [00:07:58] Koufax stands up to greet me. [00:07:59] And I said, Sandy, I've always been an admirer of yours. [00:08:02] I mean, I was so nervous. [00:08:04] And I said, the first thing I ever wrote was about you. [00:08:06] He said, really? [00:08:07] I said, yeah, I wrote a poem about you. [00:08:08] Let me just give you the first stanza. [00:08:10] Koufax is on the mound. [00:08:11] The game has just begun. [00:08:13] He gets a sign from the catcher and swish! [00:08:15] Strike one. [00:08:16] Sandy Colfax put his arm on my shoulder and said, don't quit your day job. [00:08:22] A few months ago, I got a letter from somebody I had completely forgotten about. [00:08:26] Years ago, when I lived in Cleveland, a friend of mine has a sailboat and he invited a couple of people to come on the sailboat. [00:08:32] So we're all sailing on Lake Erie. [00:08:35] And this guy happened to be white. [00:08:36] He's about 35 years old, was complaining and complaining and complaining about his job. [00:08:40] Hated his job, hated his boss. [00:08:42] And I listened and I listened and I listened and I said, what are you going to do about it? [00:08:47] And he said, what do you mean? [00:08:48] I said, are you going to sit here and just moan and whine about your job the rest of your life or are you going to do something about it? [00:08:55] And that was about it. [00:08:57] And I completely forgot about it. [00:09:00] I get this letter. [00:09:02] A few months ago, dear Larry, don't know if you remember me, but years ago when you lived in Cleveland, we were on a sailboat and he recounts the story. [00:09:09] And he told me that he started his own business. [00:09:12] He now has 20 people who work for him. === America's Advantage (00:59) === [00:09:14] He's now extremely successful. [00:09:15] And he thanked me for giving him the prod that he needed in order for him to get off the couch and stop whining and do something about his life. [00:09:24] But as I said, he was white. [00:09:27] Everybody needs a boost. [00:09:30] Everybody needs encouragement. [00:09:31] Everybody needs support. [00:09:33] Nothing to do with race. [00:09:34] This is the greatest country God ever created. [00:09:38] You can go from nothing to something faster in America than any other country in all of human civilization. [00:09:43] Let's take advantage of it, okay? [00:09:46] Guess what just happened? [00:09:48] We've been demonetized by YouTube. [00:09:50] That's right, Epoch Times channels have been demonetized. [00:09:54] But I've got some exciting news. [00:09:55] It means we must be doing something right, frankly. [00:09:58] I'm amazed it took them so long.
