Why Trump Likely Won't Be Impeached, and You Can’t Impeach Him After Leaving Office | Facts Matter
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
Good evening.
President Trump has been kicked off of almost every major platform that's out there.
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, even Snapchat.
So what is he even up to right now?
Meanwhile, another BLM activist was confirmed to have been arrested at the U.S. Capitol on January the 6th, and he was in possession of firearms.
Meanwhile, over in the House, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are pushing through a second impeachment, although it's likely to fail once reaching the Senate.
And lastly, Parler, which is a competitor to Twitter, has been kicked off of Apple, Google, and Amazon because they refused to censor their users.
They are now seeking legal action.
Let's go through these stories together.
This is your never-ending 2020 election update, and I'm your host, Roman, from the Epoch Times.
Now, I wanted to start today's discussion by going through this quote.
Take a listen to it and see if you can figure out who said it.
It doesn't matter what the press says.
It doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say.
It doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.
Republics are founded on one principle above all else, the requirement that we stand up for what we believe in no matter the odds or consequences.
When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, Your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world, no, you move.
So that was extremely powerful.
And it was said about 100 years ago by Mark Twain.
And it was made famous when it was adopted by Captain America.
That might have been where you heard it from before.
And the reason that I wanted to bring up this quote right here is because about 21 years ago, we here at the Epoch Times, we made a decision.
We planted this organization like a tree beside the River of Truth, and we have been exposing the communist subversion around the world ever since.
And right now, right now is the culmination of decades of socialist and communist subversion in this country.
It's playing out right in front of our eyes.
And I would implore you to not lose heart, to not give in to the mob, and to instead take the solemn and weighty responsibility upon yourself to speak the truth no matter what.
The gloom that's in this world right now, it seems to mask the fact that there's so much to be thankful for.
But you know what?
That gloom is but a shadow that will vanish with the light of truth.
And dawn is almost at hand.
Now let's talk about some of the ramifications that have come about since January the 6th.
To start off with, two days ago, the U.S. Capitol Police have confirmed the off-duty death of one of their officers, a man by the name of Howard Libbingood.
In their statement, the department said, He was assigned to the Senate division, and he has been with the department since April 2005.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
His specific cause of death has not been released yet, and it's still unclear whether his death is related to the unrest that took place at the Capitol.
However, if it is the case, then he would be the second police officer to die in connection with the breach of the Capitol building.
Now, President Trump ordered American flags across the country to be flown at half-mast until this upcoming Wednesday as a sign of respect for the service and sacrifice of United States Capitol Police officers Brian D. Sicknick and Howard Libbingood, and all Capitol Police officers and law enforcement across this great nation. and all Capitol Police officers and law enforcement across this Now, on the other side of the protest, a federal investigation has been opened into whether excessive force was used against Ashley Babbitt.
She was, of course, the young Air Force veteran who was shot and killed inside of the Capitol building by the police.
In order to get more details about this investigation, as well as to get a little bit more clarification around the details surrounding her death, we here at the Epoch Times, we actually reached out to the U.S. attorney over in D.C. for comment.
But I've yet to hear back.
We also reached out to the FBI for comment, but neither have gotten back to us.
I'll let you know if we hear anything.
Now, in terms of the other protesters, a number of them have been either arrested or charged in the last few days, including the man from Arkansas who posed for photos while sitting at a desk in Nancy Pelosi's office, a lawmaker from West Virginia who filmed himself entering the U.S. Capitol building, A man from Florida, who is photographed carrying the Speaker of the House's podium, as well as this man here, with the horns and the hat.
You might have seen him in photos all across the internet.
He's become somewhat of the face of this whole break-in.
In total, thus far, several dozen people have been arrested, and 53 of them are facing charges.
Now, there are two things about these arrests that are interesting and worth mentioning, and I'd like to discuss with you.
First of all, not everyone who got arrested was a Trump supporter.
Some were actually anti-Trump.
For instance, a 25-year-old man named Logan Grimes was arrested in Washington amid this protest.
According to his family, he is not a Trump supporter, and he has actually been active in the BLM movement.
So why was he arrested?
Well, according to the public arrest records, he was booked on charges including carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a large-capacity ammunition feeding device, and possession of unregistered ammunition.
So what was this anti-Trump BLM activist doing at the parade with live ammunition?
Well, here's what his father had to say.
We are a very progressive liberal family.
If there's any reason my son was even present, it's because of his stand against what a lot of those folks who did horrible things yesterday.
Now, Logan Grimes was not the only confirmed BLM activist who was arrested on that day.
As we discussed in our previous episode last Friday, another left-wing activist named John Sullivan was also arrested for breaking into the Capitol.
Now, since then, we found a video online that was posted on his YouTube channel showing him entering the Capitol building with a group of other Trump supporters.
And he's heard on video encouraging others and convincing Capitol Police to let the trespassers through at several impasses.
So what was he doing there at the Capitol?
Well, he claims that he was just there in a reporting capacity.
He was just there to take a look around.
Going there to document what was happening.
When others pressed him online on the fact that he was egging people on, he claimed that it was part of blending in, so I don't get beat up.
And this is, among other reasons, why I say that it is still unclear who actually instigated the break-in of the Capitol building.
We're still looking into it.
We're still investigating all of the details surrounding it, as well as the footage from that day.
Now, the other thing that I wanted to highlight in regards to all these arrests was this.
The fact that these people are getting found, charged, and arrested is not surprising to me.
I mean, their photos are everywhere and the FBI has extensive resources.
But in my opinion, what is surprising is how easy it was for these protesters to breach the Capitol building in the first place, especially at a time when every single lawmaker, both all of the senators, all of the House members, as well as the vice president, were inside.
To me, it seems almost unfeasible.
I mean, take a moment to consider our priorities as a country for a moment.
We spend over $700 billion on defense every year, but where does that money even go?
I mean, we of course purchase the greatest helicopters, the greatest fighter jets, the greatest weaponry that money can buy, but our capital, our U.S. Capitol building, can be overtaken in a matter of just an hour by unarmed protesters.
Now, along this line, three days ago, a bipartisan group of senators announced that they're launching a probe into these security failures.
Among the things that they'll have to investigate are two that I'd like to highlight with you.
First of all, three days before the protest, the Pentagon asked the Capitol Police if they needed the National Guard.
But they turned it down.
And second of all, as the building was being stormed, in the middle of it, the Justice Department reached out to the Capitol Police and offered to provide them with several FBI agents as backup.
Why?
I'm not sure.
Thus far, it's not been made publicly known.
Likely, it'll have to be investigated by the Senate.
Now, just for your reference, these two points above about the Capitol Police turning down help came from a report in the Associated Press which interviewed unnamed senior defense officials.
So take it what it's worth.
We're here at the Epoch Times.
We actually reached out to the Capitol Police, the Defense Department, as well as the Justice Department for comment, but none of them got back to us thus far.
If they do, we'll let you know.
Now, if you'd like to read more about what we discussed thus far about all of these investigations and arrests, then those links will be in the description box below this video for you to check out for yourself.
And while you're down there looking for those links, take a quick moment to vote with your finger and smash that like button.
Because you already know that tech platforms like this, like this, as well as almost every tech platform, is censoring honest voices, voices that talk about the truth of what's happening in this country as well as in this world right now.
But when you smash that like button that's below this video, you are forcing the YouTube algorithm, the exact same algorithm that censors us, to push this video out to potentially thousands of more people, letting the truth be known far and wide.
Now let's talk about the possibility of a second impeachment.
As I'm sure that you're already aware, most media, some lawmakers, former officials, and a lot of critics have pinned the blame on what happened at the riot in the Capitol building on President Trump.
Earlier today, Democrats in the House have formally introduced an article of impeachment against President Trump, charging him with incitement of insurrection, and they will be voting on it probably as early as Wednesday.
And if they get a simple majority to vote in favor of impeachment, then it'll go to the next step, which is a trial in the Senate.
Now, how likely is all of this to actually succeed?
Well, it's not very likely.
Even if the House moves to successfully impeach and is able to push it through expeditiously, it's likely going to die in the Senate before January the 20th.
That's because right now, the Senate is actually in recess and is only holding pro forma sessions every three days until January the 19th.
And so, according to Mitch McConnell, So you see, even if the House votes for it, unless all 100 senators agree to it, there is not going to be a Senate trial, at least until January 19th, which is the same as not doing it at all, right?
Because then the end of the term is January 20th, and you can't get anything done in a single day.
But notice something really cool, at least in my opinion.
Even though this whole thing basically has no chance of going through, no one is talking about election fraud any longer.
In fact, no one is talking about almost anything else any longer other than impeachment.
It seems to be the front page headline of every single newspaper.
It's kind of cool how that works.
Regardless, if you'd like to read more about the second impeachment attempt, those links will be in the description box below this video for you to check out for yourself.
And now, let's talk a little bit about censorship.
As I'm sure you've already heard, President Trump has been kicked off of practically every platform that's out there.
Although I should probably use the word platform in quotation marks, because they seem to be acting more as publishers in recent days.
But let's focus specifically on Twitter for a moment.
Three days ago, Twitter moved to permanently ban President Trump's account, saying that his recent tweets were in violation of the glorification of violence policy.
Okay, so those tweets must have been pretty bad.
They must have been glorifying violence pretty hard in order to get the leader of the free world kicked off of his primary communication channel.
So let's take a look at them ourselves.
Here's the first one.
The 75 million great American patriots who voted for me, America first, and make America great again, will have a giant voice long into the future.
They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape, or form.
Then later after that, President Trump tweeted, Now that was the last tweet from President Trump before his account was removed.
Now, in front of me here, I have the statement that was released by Twitter explaining the rationale behind their moves.
Let's go through it together.
So their assessment, it determined that Trump's last two Twitter posts were highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January the 6th.
And now they said that they came to this conclusion based on a number of factors.
Let's go through some of them together.
They actually put them here for us in five bullet points.
So their first point says that President Trump's statement about not attending the inauguration is being received by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was not legitimate and is seen as him disavowing his previous claim that there would be an orderly transition on January the 20th.
Now, to me, that seems highly speculative and open to interpretation, but okay, let's move on.
In their second point, Twitter says that President Trump's statement may also serve as encouragement to those potentially considering violent acts that the inauguration would be a safe target, as he will not be attending.
Again, that could be the case, but that's highly speculative and open to interpretation.
But let's continue.
The third point, and in my opinion, this is my favorite point in terms of the mental gymnastics, is that President Trump's use of the words American patriots to describe his supporters is also being interpreted as support for those committing violent acts at the U.S. Capitol.
In their fourth point, Twitter claims that when President Trump said that his supporters will have a giant voice long into the future and that they will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape, or form, that is being interpreted as further indication that President Trump does not plan to facilitate an orderly transition.
In short, they are basically saying that President Trump didn't actually threaten violence, but that his words can be interpreted to perhaps be an incitement to violence.
Interpreted by whom?
Well, they didn't really say.
If you've been following this whole censorship debate for a while, you already know how it goes.
In my view, the way it works is basically that there is one group of people which can constantly talk about doing violence to their opponents and have it be brushed off as being just a metaphor, while you have another group of people that can't even talk about their points of view without it being called a dog whistle.
Here's an example of it.
It took me about a minute to find because these types of examples are everywhere.
This is from People4Bernie.
It's a verified account on Twitter.
And they wrote, Don't let them escape it?
Antifa has been brutally beating people up, and they've even killed at least one person over the last year at least.
That is a threat.
But it won't be interpreted that way.
It will not be taken down very likely.
Because it's just a metaphor, right?
It's all open to interpretation.
So you see, when you begin to have the power to ban people based on interpretation, that's so dangerous.
In my opinion, at least, the people who advocate for this type of censorship, they actually typically have good intentions.
They want to help the world.
They just don't realize that when you open up Pandora's box like this, when you let the genie out of the bottle, when you allow censorship to take place in this world, it won't always work in your favor.
You might be censored yourself in the near future.
Regardless, that Twitter ban was only the opening salvo.
A lot of people don't know, although more people know now, that Twitter has a competitor named Parler.
And after President Trump was banned off of Twitter, and at the same time a lot of other conservatives were also getting kicked off of Twitter as well, Parler saw a huge surge in traffic.
They have guidelines in place that are in line with federal laws, but they don't go further than that.
They don't politically censor.
In fact, I had a chance to sit down with Parler's CEO a few months ago, and here's how he described his platform.
So we have a legal basis for every rule, which means that you can express your political opinion without worry of censorship.
Now, of course, you can't be violent.
You can't, you know, post really egregious, you know, like nudity or obscenities.
But you can express your opinion in any way you feel like without worrying about being targeted.
However, the open nature of that platform has become a problem to some.
Two days ago, both the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store kicked Parler off of their platforms.
In explaining their actions, Apple released a statement saying that However, Apple released a statement saying that However, statement saying that However, Apple released a statement saying that However, statement saying that However, Apple However, Parler's founder and CEO, he said that this was a huge double standard.
Because on the very same day that Parler was banned, Hang Mike Pence was trending nationally on Twitter.
And yet Twitter was banned.
And in regards to what happened at the Capitol on January the 6th, he said that Parler has no groups-style feature, and Facebook was the number one tool for coordinating meetups for that event.
And yet Facebook was not banned.
He therefore called it a blatant double standard, saying in a statement that it's displaying the horrible double standard Apple and their big tech pack apply to the community.
Now that was not the end of their trouble, though, because the very next day, Amazon, who Parler was using for its web hosting service, also kicked them off.
And because of that, as of right now, Parler is offline.
Now, the CEO of Parler, he is taking legal action, saying that he believes that Amazon, Google, and Apple coordinated to try and ensure that they don't have competition.
Now, we here at the Epoch Times, we reached out to Amazon, we reached out to Google, and we reached out to Apple for comment, but I've yet to hear back.
If you'd like to read more about Parler, how they got kicked off, as well as what they're doing in response, those links will be in the description box below this video for you to check out.
And now, lastly, I'd like to take a moment and introduce our new sponsor to the channel.
Right now, as you can obviously tell, is a time when both platforms and advertisers are making a concerted effort to defund media outlets which report honestly about what's happening in this world right now.
However, Tidal Homelock obviously cares about the truth to sponsor a channel like ours.
And in fact, let me move over to the studio to tell you more about them.
That's right, Roman.
Today's sponsor is a great company called Home Title Lock.
And the reason they're a great company is that they can help keep you out of trouble.
Basically, right now, with all the advances in technology, the title to your home is likely kept online.
And what a savvy hacker can do is that they can hack into the system, steal the title to your home, fake your signature, and sign over your home, basically sign a quit claim deed stating that you sold your home to them.
When you really didn't, it's fake, but a bank won't know any different, and it's not And so what they will do then is they will take out loans against your home and take all the equity from it, basically stealing from you.
And you won't know any different until the collection calls start coming in to you.
So they help you.
Home Title Lock protects you from this eventuality because in the unlikely event that this actually happens to you and you're a member with Home Title Lock, they will spend up to a quarter of a million dollars in legal fees in order to restore your home's title.
And so you can go over to hometitlelock.com, That link will be in the description box below this video, hometitlelog.com.
And you can register your address to see if you're already a victim.
And then if you want to sign up for their service, you can use promo code Roman, Roman, that's like my name, and you can get 30 days of free protection.
So go over to hometitlelog.com.
Use promo code Roman and sign up.
And again, thank you so much, Home Title Lock, for sponsoring this video.
At a time when advertisers are pretty much avoiding honest media outlets like the Epoch Times, they stepped up and sponsored our video, and they are actually a long-term sponsor.
So check them out if you are interested in protecting your home's title.
Otherwise, Roman in the other studio, back to you.
And lastly, if you haven't already, smash that like button for the YouTube algorithm.
Subscribe to this channel in order to get honest news content delivered directly to your YouTube feed.
