Epoch Times - It’s Rare to Find a Conservative in Hollywood | Larry Elder Aired: 2021-01-14 Duration: 09:58 === Kicking Off With Antonio (03:57) === [00:00:00] Now it's no secret that Hollywood despises Republicans. [00:00:03] It despises Republicans who support Donald Trump even more. [00:00:07] Take the case of Antonio Sabato Jr. [00:00:10] At one point he was smoking hot. [00:00:13] He was, after all, Jagger Cates on that long-running soap, General Hospital. [00:00:18] Have you thought about hiring more help? [00:00:21] I think I'm one step ahead of you. [00:00:26] Like a bad penny. [00:00:28] And he doesn't deserve it after cutting out me like that. [00:00:32] I am such a sucker for you. [00:00:35] Now, everybody knows this is a tough, tough town to be an actor. [00:00:38] I mean, after all, actors have five lives. [00:00:41] Who is Antonio? [00:00:43] Get me Antonio. [00:00:44] Get me an Antonio type. [00:00:46] Get me a young Antonio. [00:00:48] And finally, who is Antonio? [00:00:50] But it doesn't look like Antonio Sabato Jr. [00:00:54] got to that fifth stage. [00:00:55] I mean, after all, even before acting, he had a very successful career as a model. [00:01:00] Antonio Sabato Jr. [00:01:02] Kicking off our list is the man with the legendary dimples. [00:01:06] We're guessing that wasn't all that made women swoon in the 90s when this Italian stallion was modeling Calvin Klein underwear. [00:01:12] At 18, he appeared in a Janet Jackson music video, and pretty soon his rugged good looks and easy charm were on General Hospital. [00:01:20] Since then, his smoldering gaze has gotten him regular acting work. [00:01:24] So you think that I'm... [00:01:26] The most beautiful man I ever seen. [00:01:29] And then there was his successful turn as a dancer on Dancing with the Stars. [00:01:33] He did get deep into the contest, you know. [00:01:36] And we're learning now that this is our last season. [00:01:39] Who's last season? [00:01:40] Cheryl. [00:01:41] Yeah, Cheryl's last season, yes. [00:01:42] What do you think about that? [00:01:43] You got to be her last dancing partner. [00:01:45] What do you have to say about that? [00:01:47] Incredible. [00:01:48] Just phenomenal. [00:01:49] You are the last. [00:01:51] I am the last dancer to dance with Cheryl. [00:01:54] But listen, I mean, she's been here for a long time. [00:01:57] She could come back. [00:01:58] Listen, she's incredible. [00:02:00] So this show is going to miss her. [00:02:01] I'm going to miss dancing with her. [00:02:03] So, you know, she's won twice. [00:02:04] You know, she's incredible. [00:02:05] So, what happened? [00:02:08] Well, when I got back to Los Angeles, from Cleveland, my agents and my managers all left me and didn't want to return my calls. [00:02:15] I had some jobs lined up that all went away. [00:02:17] And why did this happen? [00:02:20] We want to take you to Antonio Sabato Jr., best known for his role on General Hospital. [00:02:26] I'm concerned about his future. [00:02:29] I'm concerned about my children's future. [00:02:31] And I believe we need Donald Trump. [00:02:36] Who shares my beliefs and my faith to get our country back on track. [00:02:45] In the past eight years, failed policies have caused our country to deteriorate. [00:02:52] Our rights have been trampled and our security threatened. [00:02:56] We are weaker by almost every measure. [00:03:00] We are on the wrong path. [00:03:03] It is clear even to someone who was not even born here. [00:03:07] I came to the United States from Rome, Italy in 1985. [00:03:12] That's right. [00:03:15] I follow all the rules and finally became a naturalized citizen in 1996. [00:03:25] That's right. [00:03:29] Others... [00:03:31] Who want to come to the U.S. to live and work should follow the same rules. [00:03:39] Now, as far as the Hollywood community is concerned, strike one, Zabato is a Republican. === Beliefs Under God (06:16) === [00:03:44] Strike two, Zabato is a Trump-supporting Republican. [00:03:47] But Zabato had a third strike. [00:03:51] Tell us a little bit about how you became one of the speakers tonight. [00:03:55] Politics has not been something you're involved in before, right? [00:03:57] No, not at all, but I'm very passionate about this country, and I love the United States so much, and I guess God works in mysterious ways. [00:04:04] He put me one way or the other, and the next thing I know, I'm speaking here. [00:04:08] But what's one way or the other? [00:04:10] Like, what were the steps that got you from being passionate about the country to on this stage? [00:04:15] Well, you know, for the last year especially, you know, I know that Trump was going to win, so I really backed him up. [00:04:21] But even before that, for the last seven and a half years, I've seen this country really take a bad turn. [00:04:26] And I kept my mouth shut. [00:04:28] This country was based on rules that actually go back to the Bible. [00:04:32] I mean, we're talking about this nation under God. [00:04:37] I mean, it says that it... [00:04:38] But it doesn't say which God. [00:04:39] It just says under God. [00:04:41] That's one God that we know about. [00:04:42] It's not... [00:04:43] You believe it's Islam, this country was based on Islam, or do you believe that the God that I'm talking about is the one in the Bible? [00:04:49] Do you believe that we could never have a Muslim president or never have a Jewish president? [00:04:52] We had one. [00:04:53] We had a Muslim president for seven and a half years. [00:04:55] You believe that President Obama is a Muslim? [00:04:57] Absolutely. [00:04:57] Is that what you're saying? [00:04:58] Absolutely. [00:04:58] And that is based on what you feel in your heart? [00:05:00] That's what I believe, yeah. [00:05:01] And you know what? [00:05:02] I have the right to believe that, and you have the right to... [00:05:05] Go against that, but I believe it. [00:05:08] Strike three, Obama is a Muslim? [00:05:11] Now, before you react, let me remind you what Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State, said who endorsed Obama in 2008 about the accusation that Obama is a Muslim. [00:05:22] Here's what Powell said. [00:05:24] Well, the correct answer is he is not a Muslim. [00:05:25] He's a Christian. [00:05:26] He's always been a Christian. [00:05:27] But the really right answer is, what if he is? [00:05:30] Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? [00:05:33] The answer is no, that's not America. [00:05:35] Now, do you know who else thinks Obama is a Muslim? [00:05:39] Much of the country. [00:05:40] Check out this survey discussed in the Washington Post. [00:05:44] Even many Democrats weren't taking Obama at his word. [00:05:48] Only 45% chose Christian, while 17% said spiritual, 10% said Muslim, and 26% said they didn't know. [00:06:00] End of quote. [00:06:02] And those were Democrats. [00:06:03] And this is from a 2010 Pew Research survey that nearly one in five Americans, 18%, now say Obama is a Muslim, up from 11% in March 2009. [00:06:16] Only about one-third of adults, 34%, say Obama is a Christian, down sharply from 48% in 2009. [00:06:24] Fully 43% say they do not know what Obama's religion is. [00:06:30] Even among many of his supporters and allies, less than half now say Obama is a Christian. [00:06:37] Among Democrats, for instance, 46% say Obama is a Christian, down from 55% in March 2009." So Zabato was simply articulating a point of view held by many Americans, including many Democrats. [00:06:56] Now, how tough is Hollywood a place for a conservative? [00:07:00] Well, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro somehow was able to interview over 100 Hollywood players. [00:07:06] We're talking about show creators, writers, and others, and asked them about Hollywood's reputation for being liberal. [00:07:13] Marta Kaufman is the creator of Friends. [00:07:16] About the accusation that Hollywood is consistently liberal, here's what Kaufman said. [00:07:21] How could it not? [00:07:24] A bunch of liberals running the show. [00:07:26] But truly, we all come from a certain place. [00:07:29] We're going to put out there what we believe because these characters mirror who we are. [00:07:35] And it has to. [00:07:40] You're right from what you know. [00:07:42] Or what you research, but with comedy, when you're doing television, you've got to... [00:07:46] It's got to be genuine, and it's got to come from you, so... [00:07:49] And, you know, we put together a staff of mostly liberal people, although I have to say, when we cast Candace Gingrich as the minister... [00:08:01] of that wedding, there was a bit of view in it. [00:08:07] Leonard Goldberg of ABC created Fantasy Island and Charlie's Angels. [00:08:14] Ben Shapiro asked him whether or not there is a consistently left-wing agenda being pushed in Hollywood. [00:08:20] Here's what he said. [00:08:20] There's no question about that. [00:08:22] I don't know about the content being pushed, but in terms of the Fred Silverman! [00:08:46] Former executive of ABC, former executive of NBC, former senior executive at CBS, on whether Hollywood comedy shows are left-wing. [00:08:56] Right now, there's only one perspective, and it's a very progressive perspective. [00:09:00] Susan Harris, creator of Soap, creator of Golden Girls, on whether or not Hollywood is too progressive, too liberal. [00:09:09] Idiots talking. [00:09:11] What can I say? [00:09:12] It's just, you know, look, there's a large section of this country, it seems to be getting smaller, at least, you know, we put Obama in office, and so people, I think, are getting a little, gotten a little bit smarter. [00:09:27] Um... [00:09:28] But there are a lot of people who really have medieval minds in all sorts of ways. [00:09:35] And, you know, that's who you're dealing with. [00:09:37] Vin DeBona, the creator of MacGyver, on whether or not liberals dominate Hollywood. [00:09:43] I think it's probably accurate and I'm happy about it. [00:09:47] That's Hollywood. [00:09:48] Ask Mr. [00:09:49] Sabato Jr. [00:09:50] Tough place. [00:09:52] Forget it, Jake. [00:09:53] It's Chinatown. [00:09:56] I'm Larry Elder and we've got a country to save.
