From late December, many Chinese cities in northeastern and northern China reported new outbreaks of the coronavirus one after another.
Super-spreaders emerged in Shenyang and Dalian cities, where numerous roads and communities have been sealed off.
In Beijing, new cases kept arising, and seven neighbourhoods were identified as medium-risk areas.
In the nearby Hebei province, at least five cities declared a wartime state.
Go!
This scene happened near a farmer's market in Shenyang city, Liaoning province.
A woman was knocked down by police and dragged along the street for trying to leave a sealed-off neighbourhood.
The new round of outbreaks are very serious in both Shenyang and Dalian, where super-spreaders, who each spread the virus to dozens of people, were identified.
The authorities upgraded the lockdown measures from steel or wooden panels to sharp grater-like steel panels to prevent residents from going out.
In a village in Liaoning province, one leader was heard making a loudspeaker announcement.
Shenyang residents shared online videos to let each other know the situation in Shenyang.
One video showed streets with many military vehicles, indicating that the Chinese military has been dispatched to Shenyang to participate in local pandemic controls.
In another video, a local hospital designated for coronavirus quarantine was undergoing makeshift restructuring to make it capable of housing more patients.
The pandemic also spread rapidly in Hebei province, With five cities declaring a wartime state.
They are Xijuazhuang, Xingtai, Dingzhuo, Hejian, and Zhangjiaqou.
Xijiajian, 200 miles south of Beijing, is the capital city of Hebei province, with a population of 11 million.
Over a hundred infections have been confirmed in the past several days, and a village in Xijiazhuang called Xiaoguozhang was designated a high-risk region on January 5th, the only high-risk designation in China as of now.
A video leaked from China showed buses that were taking away all the residents in the village to be quarantined, then announced that the entire population will undergo mass testing, and all communities and villages will be under closed management.
The next day, authorities reported that soon 3,000 medical staff from other areas will arrive in Shijiazhuang to help with the local coronavirus fight.
In the city, there are also three medium-risk regions.
However, it's generally believed that Chinese authorities are gravely under-reporting again.
In a video released from Xijiazhuang, Hebei Medical University has suspended classes and has been placed under lockdown due to the new outbreak.
Students organized a shouting protest from inside the dorms, yelling, allow us to go home.
In Beijing, eight neighborhoods were upgraded to medium-risk regions.
A huge number of residents were required to take the nucleic acid test.
New cases were mainly clustered in three districts, Xunyi, Xicheng, and Chaoyang, with Xunyi district being hit particularly hard.
Those areas with identified cases were completely sealed off, including a neighborhood in Xunyi district.
When a residential community is sealed off, basically no one is allowed to get in or out, and everyone must take the nucleic acid test.
Now, 14-day isolation is not enough.
The new rule is called 14 plus 7 day quarantine, meaning the sealed off communities are subjected to at least 21 days of isolation.
Beijing resident Mr Liu revealed that residents in closed communities cannot go to work or school.
They won't be able to go to work or school.
Even those who need to see a doctor must go through a special procedure to go to the hospital.
Basically, these people are not allowed to move around as they all belong to the three categories of high-risk individuals.
Patients with symptoms, asymptomatic virus carriers, and those who have had contacts with patients or virus carriers.
The 14-plus-7-day quarantine has also been applied in Shenzhen City, Dalian City and Zhejiang Province.
