Slightly Offensive - Elijah Schaffer - Washington D.C. Sucks | Part 1 Aired: 2019-07-10 Duration: 14:31 === Cars Blocked, Free Speech Rally (03:42) === [00:00:00] We're chasing the fascists. [00:00:02] The fascists are on the streets. [00:00:03] Danger, danger. [00:00:04] There are fascists in the white cups. [00:00:05] It's up to us. [00:00:07] Stamp them out. [00:00:08] I don't think that's how it goes. [00:00:09] We are running with the ANTIFA. [00:00:12] Welcome back to another episode of Slightly Offensive with your favorite gay black woman, me Elijah Schaefer. [00:00:16] We are here out in the streets of DC running, I don't know where, with some black black people to be at this rally against free speech and stuff because why let people give free speech and stuff? [00:00:27] We hope you enjoyed the show. [00:00:28] Make sure you like, share, subscribe. [00:00:29] Check out the links to keep Independent Media Journals Live. [00:00:30] Now comes the police. [00:00:50] Next to you. [00:00:52] Hi, Stefan. [00:00:53] Center still today. [00:00:56] Because there ain't no doubt I love this land. [00:01:01] God bless the USA. [00:01:07] Dang. [00:01:08] Very good. [00:01:17] Well guys, so it begins. [00:01:19] We are arriving here at the rally for free speech. [00:01:23] And what we have behind us is currently a bus. [00:01:26] Now, you probably can't see this that well, but to my left over here, essentially they've put some blockades on the roads, which are to stop people from driving cars through. [00:01:36] All right, so we're just walking into the rally. [00:01:37] We're gonna take a look around, kind of see what's going on here. [00:01:39] We already have quite a wide variety of ethnicities that are going on here, but we're gonna see what else has happened today. [00:01:45] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America to the republic for which it stands. [00:01:54] One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [00:02:00] God bless America. [00:02:02] They can't fight. [00:02:04] They can't argue. [00:02:07] They can't even get a job. [00:02:09] So why are we suffering these fools so gladly? [00:02:16] They're putting us in stretchy handcuffs. [00:02:19] Just take them off. [00:02:21] But I have something to say to the people watching at home, and it's something that you aren't used to hearing from media personalities whose politics you share. [00:02:27] We're losing and it's your fault. [00:02:34] It is hot and disgusting here. [00:02:37] It is pretty unbearable. [00:02:40] And for those of you that live here, I'm sorry. [00:02:43] Anyways, we're gonna have to walk around the block a couple times to basically get to the protests, which are on the other side, because they won't let people through the blockades and they have cars set up. [00:02:54] It's just, it's just crazy, man. [00:02:56] Just for a rally. [00:02:57] It's really sad. [00:02:58] Like, what do they think is going to happen? [00:03:03] This guy in front of me has a Black Lives Matter sign and a trans flag, which is actually interesting because that's pretty much my identity. [00:03:14] The police are moving in, and I'm not sure why they're coming, but here we go. [00:03:20] Off to Neverland. [00:03:25] All right, as the sign says, from the ALT, RIGHT to the police, get that FAS, C-I-S-M, serves the 1%. === Diverse Protests (08:28) === [00:03:34] And they're holding it in front of the cops, who are very diverse, even of genders, which is pretty cool. [00:03:40] And this brings up the divide. [00:03:41] I mean, what are we out here doing? [00:03:43] I think we all want the same thing, but we're taking different means to get it. [00:03:46] And these guys are dedicated. [00:03:48] They have Ghostbusters with a MAGA hat on the side, and they're doing what they know best. [00:03:53] Guys, welcome back to the show. [00:03:54] My name is Elijah Schaefer. [00:03:55] I'm here with Slightly Offensive. [00:03:57] your favorite and most beautiful gay black woman here in Washington, DC at the Freedom Rally and counter-protest rally outside in Freedom Plaza. [00:04:07] Today we have a clash between what seems to be an event by mostly right-wingers that's also housed security by the group known as Crowdboys, which has been counter-protested by a group that I'm not sure their entire stance, but there is a lot of black blocked people, green hat people, and generally just people who don't like people on the right. [00:04:28] Let's talk to them see what they have to say and find out why there's such a divide in the United States of America Why is there a man standing in front of you? [00:04:47] Chicken shit because he won't show his face. [00:04:50] Chicken shit because I won't show my face. [00:04:53] Say all he does is repeat because he doesn't have any mantra. [00:04:57] He doesn't have an education to have a dialogue. [00:05:01] All they want to do is protest and cause problems. [00:05:04] But he doesn't really believe in what he stands for. [00:05:08] Can I ask you then, just instead of with that, obviously, you guys heavily disagree on almost every single issue, probably on what to do. [00:05:15] I don't even know what he stands for. [00:05:17] I don't even know what he stands for. [00:05:19] He doesn't have any conversation. [00:05:20] He doesn't have any conversation. [00:05:22] Their main rhetoric, it's hateful rhetoric. [00:05:27] It's discrimination against people who are different than them, people who are not white male for the main, for the most part. [00:05:35] In fact, Antifa had a seminar about this rally, and they were talking about why they need to kill me. [00:05:40] And one of the things they had listed me saying is most women would be happier at home. [00:05:44] And I'm reading it going, yeah, I did say that. [00:05:46] That's in context. [00:05:47] And that's an idea. [00:05:49] That doesn't affect anyone. [00:05:51] Like, I'm not going in with my Gestapo to rip women out of cubicles and throw them back in the kitchen to chain them to an oven. [00:05:57] It's just an idea. [00:05:58] But the irony is, these leftist ideas do lead to policy. [00:06:03] They do lead to laws changing. [00:06:06] I know you guys have differences, and you guys, people don't like each other because they think that they're hurting the country. [00:06:10] But as Americans, can't we just have a discussion, like basic? [00:06:14] I mean, you probably are a smart guy. [00:06:16] He's just saying that because you're not going to say anything. [00:06:18] I'm sure you could hold up your own and your own dialogue, man. [00:06:21] I promise you you could. [00:06:22] Why not? [00:06:22] There's no dialogue here. [00:06:23] It's just ad hominem attacks. [00:06:25] All he said is I'm the chicken shit. [00:06:26] It's literally all he has to say. [00:06:30] If he changed his dialogue from ad hominem, if he changed it from the personal attacks to actually debating an issue, would you be willing to actually lay out your points? [00:06:37] What's this issue? [00:06:38] White supremacy? [00:06:39] So like right here, we have this group that's saying fascism starves the 1%. [00:06:43] I mean, are you for them? [00:06:44] Are you against them? [00:06:44] What do you think about the signs? [00:06:45] I'm against them. [00:06:46] Why do you think they're saying what they're saying? [00:06:49] They're not even giving us interviews, by the way. [00:06:50] They said no interviews from anyone on their side. [00:06:52] Can I ask you to cross the street, please, unless you've signed our media pledge. [00:06:55] No one's allowed in the world. [00:06:56] What's your media pledge? [00:06:58] We actually have to talk to one of our media liaisons. [00:07:01] Can I talk to media liaison? [00:07:02] Thank you. [00:07:03] They're just hiding behind their black masks. [00:07:06] They can't even put it down. [00:07:07] I'm a woman. [00:07:08] You know, I'm a 64-year-old woman, and I'm sitting here talking to you because I believe in this country. [00:07:13] I believe in everything it stood for. [00:07:15] So many people love America, and these people hate it. [00:07:19] And I'm thinking, if you hate it, get on it. [00:07:20] Go, go. [00:07:21] Get out of here. [00:07:22] Get out. [00:07:23] Move your hand so you can get out. [00:07:24] You need to get up. [00:07:25] I've been standing here this whole time. [00:07:26] Hold your sign up. [00:07:27] Hold your sign up and turn around. [00:07:28] Do not get in that sign again. [00:07:30] I did not want to go in the same place. [00:07:32] Pay attention that way, okay? [00:07:34] But you can't wrap him up like that, alright? [00:07:35] He needs to get out there. [00:07:36] You can't wrap him up like that. [00:07:37] So what's really cool about this country is you have an anti-police sign, and the police are trying to bring peace while people are holding up an anti-police sign. [00:07:47] And, you know, it's definitely interesting because it's the fact that, you know, the police are really not, I don't think the police are really here to cause any problems, but some people think they are. [00:07:55] We'll see what ends up happening at the end of the day. [00:07:57] These kind of rallies are common in India. [00:07:59] Back in Jantamatha, you have all this kind of rallies, and I really appreciate what you guys are doing here. [00:08:03] It's just people fighting against who's in power and whatnot, yeah? [00:08:06] People are not literally fighting, but yes, there's always some tussle going on. [00:08:09] And you have Jewish people on the right, Jewish people on the left. [00:08:11] Why do you think that there's such a divide in Jewish people supporting both sides? [00:08:14] I'm not going to dignify that equivalence. [00:08:16] Sorry. [00:08:17] I was reading Daily Beast last night. [00:08:19] So good about today's event. [00:08:21] And they describe Proud Boys as a group who's known for extremism and a lack of masturbation. [00:08:28] Yeah, they have no sense of humor. [00:08:30] The Democrats, and I respect AOC what she done, but it doesn't go far enough. [00:08:36] We have to. [00:08:37] Do you think the Green New Deal wasn't far enough? [00:08:39] No, not the way the Democrats are formulating. [00:08:42] The first thing here is we have some of these flags, which are the traditional colors of the red and black of anti-fascist movements across the United States of America. [00:08:51] Of course, there are more militant groups in Washington, D.C., Portland, Los Angeles, and other major metropolitan areas. [00:08:57] But hey, kudos for them, man. [00:08:59] Crafts and arts was probably the strong suit in high school anyways. [00:09:04] So, I mean, way to carry on the legend. [00:09:06] The family craft legend. [00:09:08] Get out of here, Michael. [00:09:09] Get out of here. [00:09:09] Do you even know what the whole thing is? [00:09:10] The organizer of DC does not want you to get out. [00:09:13] Every single organizer. [00:09:14] Do you even know the whole story? [00:09:15] I know the whole organization. [00:09:16] Get out. [00:09:16] No, you don't. [00:09:17] Yes, I do. [00:09:17] Yes, I do. [00:09:18] Do you know all the indigenous people in New York? [00:09:22] Get the camera out of my face. [00:09:23] This microphone. [00:09:25] Oh, so now you're running for Doctor too. [00:09:28] We're actual press. [00:09:29] We're allowed to be here. [00:09:30] We're here to cover the event. [00:09:31] We have press guidelines. [00:09:33] The lieutenant gave us permission, actually. [00:09:35] I just spoke to the lieutenant. [00:09:36] He said, as long as we stay on the sidewalk on the perimeter, we're fine to be here, actually. [00:09:39] I have a question for your lieutenant or someone that might know about the permits. [00:09:42] Do you know who you can point me to? [00:09:44] One of the organizers was saying that they're not letting press to cover their event. [00:09:47] So that's actually National Park Service jurisdiction. [00:09:49] They're the ones who issued that permit. [00:09:50] So you need to speak to Park Police or a representative from National Park Service. [00:09:53] So the media access is being regulated by the event itself. [00:09:56] Okay. [00:09:57] You know, because there's two separate groups kind of diametrically opposed in their opinions, you know, in order to ensure that someone from one group doesn't go to the other side and cause trouble, we're letting each group manage their own media of access. [00:10:13] We're asking people who are doing press work in here in the space to be respectful of sticking cameras in people's faces without their consent. [00:10:21] Yeah, his camera's way out there. [00:10:23] Yep. [00:10:23] So if you can make sure to get explicit verbal consent from people before you film their face or before you're faces are covered though, so we were good. [00:10:32] You know, as long as you're not causing a problem, theoretically, it shouldn't be an issue. [00:10:37] So I'm not sure exactly what they're doing on that side over there because, like I said, you know, we're... [00:10:42] Well, we can stay. [00:10:42] I mean, it's public property, right? [00:10:43] I mean, we can stay on Twitter and film and whatnot. [00:10:45] Absolutely. [00:10:46] Maybe just not go right into the crowd, just kind of stay on the outskirts. [00:10:48] Yeah, I would say, as long as you're not inciting the crowd in some way to cause a problem, then theoretically, yeah, you're allowed to go in there. [00:10:58] Believe me, we don't want to start a problem in these crowds. [00:11:01] Who does? [00:11:01] People get a little uncomfortable when you stick a camera in their face. [00:11:04] The press's job is to make people a little uncomfortable. [00:11:07] Yeah. [00:11:07] It's our job. [00:11:08] You do the president to anybody, right? [00:11:10] The job is like Jim Acasa does it to Trump. [00:11:12] We got to do it to everyone. [00:11:13] Why do you think it is, though, that there are people here who don't want to be interviewed? [00:11:17] Okay, back in India I've also seen that. [00:11:19] Top leaders don't get interviewed because they are afraid of tough questions. [00:11:24] Right? [00:11:24] Yeah. [00:11:25] And that's part of democracy. [00:11:26] They are entitled not to get interviewed. [00:11:28] At the same time, we are entitled to ask them questions. [00:11:31] Oh! [00:11:39] Oh! [00:11:40] Scientific offensive likes to sing. === Middle Ground Engagement (02:49) === [00:11:41] Not very good at it, but I like to do it. [00:11:53] This is obviously like a middle ground where people on the right and the left are kind of congregating a little bit. [00:11:57] So I would recommend if you feel that you're at risk for any reason that you move back over to the park and away from this exact spot. [00:12:05] What sets you apart to want to come over here and engage versus let's say people who might stay over there or people who might stay over there and not want to engage or have a conversation? [00:12:15] Mostly I've been coming over here if I've been seeing a large crowd of people just to kind of be here in case something goes wrong. [00:12:24] The problem with these rallies is it looks like people want a fight. [00:12:33] I'm sorry? [00:12:34] Excuse me? [00:12:34] Isn't that whistle slightly offensive? [00:12:36] No. [00:12:37] It's loud and annoying, but not offensive. [00:12:41] There you go. [00:12:43] All right, guys. [00:12:44] Well, what's interesting about these rallies here is that people are like looking for a fight basically. [00:12:49] And they're actually kind of rude. [00:12:52] But I don't really care. [00:12:52] Look at it. [00:12:53] This is what people are today. [00:12:56] It's bizarre. [00:12:57] We're here to stop any sort of people who are trying to cause trouble, trying to start violence over at the rally at large. [00:13:03] They're going over to have a peaceful demonstration to talk about their ideas that, you know, it's unlike these ideas on the right, which are advocating for violence, advocating for genocide. [00:13:13] Black lives matter! [00:13:15] Black lives matter, black lives matter, black lives matter Black lives matter! [00:13:31] Life's lives! [00:13:32] Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter. [00:13:38] These people are crazy. [00:13:39] Because they're over here protesting fascism, and they're the fascists. [00:13:45] Because they're trying to, you may not agree with what someone else is saying, doesn't mean you have the right to tell them they can't be able to say it. [00:13:50] That's exactly what these people are doing over here. [00:13:52] They say it's about, oh, stopping out the hate. [00:13:54] It's not about stomping out the hate. [00:13:55] It's about stomping an opinion that you don't like. [00:13:56] So if you're an average viewer that watches the news, right, which I don't, it's not necessarily the best deal if you're just getting your information from the news. [00:14:11] For some reason, we are mobbing through the streets of D.C. without a permit now. [00:14:15] Antipatisca! [00:14:15] You're trying to smash fashion? [00:14:16] You don't need a permit. [00:14:18] Anti-fascists vandalizing the streets in the name of freedom. [00:14:30] Nope, nope, nope.
