Slightly Offensive - Elijah Schaffer - Do College Students Love or Hate America? Aired: 2018-11-30 Duration: 03:48 === Why America Burns (03:06) === [00:00:00] Did you want to share? [00:00:01] Do you have a good opinion? [00:00:03] What? [00:00:04] America is trash and I look forward to the day it burns to the ground. [00:00:06] Okay, is there any other things that you want to say other than that? [00:00:08] No. [00:00:09] Okay. [00:00:10] All right. [00:00:10] That was a good. [00:00:11] That was good. [00:00:12] Welcome to Slightly Offensive. [00:00:14] My name's Elijah and you're here at USC, the University of Southern California, where I guess we're talking about whether or not people love or hate the United States of America. [00:00:30] It can be. [00:00:32] It can be great. [00:00:33] Right now, it's eh. [00:00:34] You have a bad opinion of America. [00:00:36] Why? [00:00:36] Because motherfuckers over here is full of shit. [00:00:40] Who are the MFs? [00:00:43] Donald Trump and his people. [00:00:45] You feel me? [00:00:45] Donald Trump and his people. [00:00:46] They full of s ⁇ . [00:00:48] What do you think makes this country great? [00:00:51] Trump. [00:00:52] Donald Trump? [00:00:53] Why would you say that? [00:00:54] Because he's amazing and we need him and we've needed him for a while. [00:00:58] You think it's an unpopular opinion on this campus? [00:01:00] Yeah. [00:01:00] Do you ever feel discriminated about for that? [00:01:02] I do. [00:01:03] How so? [00:01:04] People get mad if I speak out, but liberal people can speak out and they are fine. [00:01:09] It's interesting. [00:01:10] So what do you think currently defines being an American? [00:01:16] Not freedom. [00:01:18] What do you think other than freedom? [00:01:19] Um, yeehaw, all those red states, Republican, conservative. [00:01:26] We're trying to outvote them, but it's not really happening until they die off, kind of. [00:01:31] Until they die off, kind of. [00:01:33] Until they die off, kind of. [00:01:35] A lady we just spoke to said that the biggest problem in America are conservatives. [00:01:39] Do you agree or disagree with that statement? [00:01:40] Entirely disagree. [00:01:42] Why? [00:01:42] The biggest problem we have is that people dehumanize each other. [00:01:47] The mere fact that she said that is a major issue. [00:01:50] It's not that there's conservatives that are the issue. [00:01:52] It's whatever she perceives conservatives to be. [00:01:54] I have a positive opinion. [00:01:56] Why? [00:01:57] Because I traveled around the world and it's pretty shitty some places, so I like the U.S. What is the most negative part about America and why? [00:02:05] Feminists. [00:02:06] Well, because obviously we can't get rid of all the conservatives, right? [00:02:09] Because it's like can't just get rid of half the country. [00:02:11] What do you do? [00:02:12] What do you do as a compromise or how could we actually make America great with the conservatives still in our country? [00:02:19] Having a good president. [00:02:21] And who is that? [00:02:22] Who? [00:02:23] Well, Michelle would be great. [00:02:25] Why? [00:02:26] Because they just are hypocritical. [00:02:28] Like they want to give rights to the migrant caravan, yet they don't want to give rights to like the conservatives in America and they won't let them speak out. [00:02:35] It just doesn't really make any sense. [00:02:36] You know what's funny? [00:02:37] Right before I talked to you, I just talked to a lady who was basically saying that the only way that we could have progress in this country is to get rid of the conservatives. [00:02:46] Until they die off, kind of. [00:02:48] Well, also talking about that we need to fight for the LGBTQ community. === Activism's Unlikely Targets (00:57) === [00:02:52] Just gotta wait. [00:02:52] Also more activism, stuff like that, you know? [00:02:55] Like the resistance movements or? [00:02:57] Just like everything, all social issues, LGBTQ things. [00:03:02] So it was about like fighting for some people, but not like fighting for the minorities, but not the majorities. [00:03:06] They're fighting for like illegal immigrants, but they're not gonna fight for conservatives of this country. [00:03:10] They think that they need to leave. [00:03:12] Like it makes no sense. [00:03:12] It's like they care more about foreign nationals than they do about their own countrymen. [00:03:16] I agree. [00:03:16] It's pretty unpatriotic. [00:03:18] Yep. [00:03:19] I don't know about that. [00:03:20] Who is Trump to you? [00:03:22] Well, he's not my president. [00:03:23] He's just, he's a figure that needs to be, in a sense, controlled. [00:03:28] Are you not a U.S. citizen? [00:03:29] No, I am a U.S. citizen. [00:03:31] Okay, sorry. [00:03:32] What can you do? [00:03:33] First off, this is cool. [00:03:34] It folds up. [00:03:35] It folds up, which I mean, that's state of the art. [00:03:37] I can go into any class. [00:03:39] You know, I got 16 miles. [00:03:40] And it's got the 16 miles per hour. [00:03:42] Oh, shoot. [00:03:43] This is pretty intense. [00:03:46] This has been my favorite part of the day already.
