Triggered - Donald Trump Jr - Don Jr. & Kevin McCarthy On President Trump's Empathy Aired: 2023-01-27 Duration: 03:34 === Never Show Empathy (03:34) === [00:00:00] Well, it's also, I mean, it's interesting that you say that story because I hear so many of those from people. [00:00:04] And even as I've seen it, whether it's people that have worked with us forever or whatever he's done that's unique. [00:00:08] But, you know, actually, I thought it was, you know, perhaps his greatest maybe political weakness was that he never wanted to show his empathetic side. [00:00:17] No! I'm dealing with Russia. [00:00:19] I'm dealing with Iran. I can't be soft. [00:00:22] I'm like, you don't have to be soft with them, but like show that side. [00:00:26] But he still had that old school sort of dramatic, like whatever it was. [00:00:29] Yeah, I don't know how he grew up. [00:00:31] He actually has so much more of that empathy that I think you needed for suburban women. [00:00:38] But he was like, nope, we're on a world stage. [00:00:39] We are literally, whether we're at war or just... [00:00:42] Much closer to it with someone else. [00:00:44] I'm never going to show weakness. [00:00:46] And I was actually like, man, I wish you would do this. [00:00:48] I wish people got to... [00:00:49] So we were flying up. [00:00:51] We're going to do... He's up for re-election. [00:00:53] We're flying up to New Hampshire. [00:00:55] He's going to do one of his rallies. [00:00:57] As we're going, he gets word that two Americans were killed and their bodies were coming back to Dover. [00:01:04] And so we go up to the rally. [00:01:05] He walks back to us. He goes, I'm cutting the rally short because I'm going to be there for that family. [00:01:10] And so he did the rally. [00:01:11] He cut it short. And most of the members stayed. [00:01:13] I flew with him. And when you go back to Dover, so I walk in and there are young Marines, a very young mother or wife. [00:01:21] She is in a place. [00:01:22] She doesn't believe her husband's dead. [00:01:24] And he consults her. [00:01:26] He goes out to the field. [00:01:29] It is raining. You do not have an umbrella. [00:01:32] He sits there as a respect for these men who lost their lives. [00:01:36] Was he taking his what? Not once. [00:01:38] And you know what though? He's consoling the family. [00:01:42] We go through all that. [00:01:43] We get back on the plane. [00:01:44] And he walks in. [00:01:46] And this is where he won't ever show. [00:01:47] I can see in his eyes. [00:01:49] And he said, those men should not have to die in vain. [00:01:53] Why do we have... [00:01:54] I mean, and this is the part that people don't see, and I wish they did. [00:01:59] I've literally tried, but again, you're... [00:02:00] You know as a son, you see. [00:02:01] But I've watched him, too, the pride he has in his children. [00:02:05] And this is what I'll say, too. [00:02:06] Look, raising a family is not easy. [00:02:09] You know, you're a great father. But they don't see him as a father. [00:02:12] They don't see him as a grandfather. [00:02:13] I see your kids walk up and... [00:02:14] It doesn't matter what they're... [00:02:16] But you know what? [00:02:19] You think of your life, okay? [00:02:21] He was successful. He comes from a successful life. [00:02:24] I've watched all you kids as brothers and sisters love one another. [00:02:29] You're not into drugs. [00:02:31] You don't have problems. You don't have laptops. [00:02:33] You don't have these other things. According to the press, I'm really into drugs. [00:02:37] No one's ever called me low energy, but I get these. [00:02:40] But you know what? I've been around you guys privately. [00:02:43] It is a real family that has real love for one another. [00:02:46] And really, it stems of what he did as a father. [00:02:51] I appreciate that. Yeah, no, I want him to show some of that. [00:02:55] But, you know, again, you're not going to... [00:02:57] Hey, there were times I probably also didn't want him tweeting. [00:02:59] And people are like, have you ever thought about maybe asking him... [00:03:01] No, I never thought of that. I never thought of... [00:03:03] Everybody would always say that. [00:03:05] You're on CNN in 20 minutes. [00:03:06] Like, what are the talking points? It's like, I don't know, man. [00:03:09] You're on your own. Just go figure it out. [00:03:10] I would tell him this. I would say... [00:03:12] We'd be talking, oh, that'd be a good tweet. [00:03:14] I said, you know, my mom used to tell me in the summer, if you ate, you had to wait 30 minutes before you get in the pool. [00:03:20] Why don't we wait 30 minutes on this tweet? [00:03:24] Then he'd look at me and he goes, I wouldn't be sitting in this seat if I took you in the pool. [00:03:27] And there's truth to that. That's the other thing that people have got to understand. [00:03:30] You sometimes have to take, you know, that good with it. [00:03:32] The success comes from it. He was a disruptor.
