The Dan Bongino Show - The Bongino Brief - Feb 20, 2021 Aired: 2021-02-20 Duration: 06:33 === Je Ne Sais Quoi Factor (02:27) === [00:00:00] Dan Bongino. [00:00:02] Welcome to the Bongino Brief. [00:00:03] I'm Dan Bongino. [00:00:05] You know, I don't like to repeat things I said on Fox, but given the tragedy of losing Rush Limbaugh, the godfather... [00:00:13] It's important, I repeat again, that people have asked me often, you know, what do you think made Rush so popular? [00:00:19] And I always give the example of the French expression we've pulled into English, you know, the je ne sais quoi, right? [00:00:25] The je ne sais quoi, I use it all the time. [00:00:27] And I think the direct translation, I don't speak French, is I don't know what. [00:00:31] And what it means is it's a way to sum up the X factor. [00:00:35] Like, what made Rush Limbaugh so great? [00:00:37] And the answer is nobody could tell you. [00:00:39] If they knew it, they'd be Rush Limbaugh. [00:00:41] What was it? [00:00:42] That he was, you know, that he was funny? [00:00:43] A lot of people are funny. [00:00:46] Levin can be hilarious. [00:00:48] Limbaugh was funny. [00:00:49] So it wasn't just that. [00:00:50] A lot of radio hosts are funny and have no audience at all. [00:00:54] Was that he understood conservatism? [00:00:57] We all understand conservatism. [00:01:00] Was it that he told cool stories? [00:01:03] I don't know. [00:01:03] I'd like to think we all tell cool stories. [00:01:07] What was it? [00:01:08] Was he, as he said all the time, the big lovable fuzzball? [00:01:11] Was that it? [00:01:12] Remember that? [00:01:15] I don't know. [00:01:18] I have no idea. [00:01:20] Genesee Quah. [00:01:22] But Rush had the Quah. [00:01:24] Whatever the Quah is, Rush had the Quah. [00:01:28] If I knew what it was, I'd bottle it and sell it and I'd be a trillionaire. [00:01:31] I have no idea. [00:01:33] I know he was special. [00:01:35] And I know he's not replaceable. [00:01:38] He will be replaced, but he's not replaceable. [00:01:42] There's a difference. [00:01:45] All right, just here's a quick video. [00:01:46] This is just worth playing again today. [00:01:49] The great President Donald J. Trump giving the great Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom. [00:01:54] This is just a minute of that, and it's just worth checking out again today. [00:01:59] Take a look. [00:02:00] Almost every American family knows the pain when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness. [00:02:07] Here tonight is a special man, beloved by millions of Americans, who just received a stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis. === Rush's Greatest Honor (04:20) === [00:02:19] This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet. [00:02:28] Rush Limbaugh, thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country. [00:02:35] (Applause.) [00:03:02] And Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our nation, the millions of people [00:03:10] a day that you speak to and that you inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have [00:03:17] done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country's [00:03:23] highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. [00:03:30] (Applause.) [00:03:37] I need you to watch that. [00:03:39] I need you to watch it. [00:03:42] Just watch the video version of the show. [00:03:43] Either you're listening to me on terrestrial radio or some digital platform, audio only. [00:03:48] Watch the show. [00:03:49] Rumble.com slash Bongino. [00:03:50] Not because I need the views or the clicks. [00:03:52] That's all secondary nonsense. [00:03:55] I want you to watch Rush's face. [00:03:58] It's not an act. [00:03:59] Rush just was so uncomfortable with public attention directed at him. [00:04:07] He was a very private guy. [00:04:08] He really doesn't know how to respond. [00:04:13] He doesn't get up and do a dance and take a victory lap. [00:04:17] He's almost uncomfortable with all the attention, so he does gestures that I think I or other people who are kind of uncomfortable with public attention would do too. [00:04:24] You give them the salute, the bow, whatever. [00:04:28] You don't know what to do. [00:04:29] The thank you. [00:04:32] And people keep clapping because it's Rush Limbaugh and you just want them to stop because you're so uncomfortable with the attention. [00:04:39] That was Rush. [00:04:41] That was Rush. [00:04:43] Here's one more. [00:04:44] One of the greatest speeches I've ever heard. [00:04:46] 2009 CPAC. [00:04:47] I lived in Maryland. [00:04:48] Let me tell you something. [00:04:49] I kicked myself in the teeth forever for not going to see this live. [00:04:52] I could have drove right down. [00:04:54] I think this was in National Harbor at the time. [00:04:56] Matter of fact, I know it was. [00:04:58] No, not National Harbor. [00:04:59] It was in the other one. [00:05:00] They used to have it in downtown DC and they moved it to National Harbor. [00:05:04] This is Rush, 2009 speech at CPAC. [00:05:07] I was watching from my dreadfully laid out living room in Saverna Park that purposely made you uncomfortable. [00:05:12] I think the designers quietly hated me. [00:05:15] But I watched this and this was just one small snippet of that CPAC speech, which is the stuff of legend. [00:05:21] 2009, Rush Limbaugh, CPAC. [00:05:26] For those of you just tuning in on the Fox News Channel or C-SPAN, I am Rush Limbaugh and I want everyone in this room and every one of you around the country to succeed. [00:05:36] I want anyone who believes in life, liberty, pursuit of happiness to succeed. [00:05:43] And I want any force Any person, any element of an overarching big government that would stop your success, I want that organization, that element, or that person to fail. [00:05:57] I want you to succeed. [00:06:12] This is really weird. [00:06:13] Like I'm telling you, this is the goosiest of goose bumps. [00:06:17] That's one of probably 200 applause lines in there. [00:06:21] That speech. [00:06:22] Totally off the cuff. [00:06:23] He's not even looking at notes. [00:06:24] That'll just blow your mind. [00:06:25] 2009 Rush Limbaugh CPAC. [00:06:29] Just an amazing speech. [00:06:30] The Dan Bongino Show.
