Davis Aurini - On Dogs and Wolves Aired: 2012-12-14 Duration: 04:04 === Wolves Among Dogs (04:01) === [00:00:03] Dogs and wolves. [00:00:07] On the surface, the dogs sound like a better bet. [00:00:11] Dogs are friendlier. [00:00:14] It's easier to teach them tricks. [00:00:16] They're more predictable. [00:00:19] Well, the wolf, even the friendly wolf, always has an edge of wild nature in him. [00:00:29] You can't quite predict the wolf as well as you can the dog. [00:00:35] But have you ever seen a group of dogs left to their own devices without a human master to take care of them? [00:00:45] I have. [00:00:47] And they are the most sad, pathetic, desperate, and lonely creatures you've ever seen. [00:00:54] They start acting out. [00:00:55] The company of other dogs, while exciting at first, over the long run, just doesn't satisfy the poor beasts. [00:01:05] They crave a master. [00:01:08] While the wolf, you take a group of wolves and put them in the same place, what do you get? [00:01:17] Civilization. [00:01:22] Furthermore, you take a group of wolves and you give one of those wolves rabies. [00:01:32] The rest of the wolf will put that wolf down. [00:01:36] Well, the dogs, they'll panic. [00:01:41] They won't do anything about it whatsoever. [00:01:47] The wolf craves freedom. [00:01:51] He's built for the wilderness. [00:01:53] He is a wild animal. [00:01:57] And if you try and tell a dog about freedom, about pitting your skill and your strength against the wild elements, come what may, the dog doesn't understand. [00:02:11] The dog thinks that freedom is a biscuit from the hand of his master. [00:02:19] A world of endless biscuits is what the dog imagines freedom to be. [00:02:27] See, when you get right down to it, the dog is a degenerate slave race. [00:02:37] So what happens if you put a wolf into a pack of dogs? [00:02:44] Now one wolf, one dog, one wolf, three dogs. [00:02:49] The wolf's probably going to come out on top, create a pack of its own, maybe a degenerate pack. [00:02:56] Not as powerful as a true wolf pack, but the wolf is going to come out on top. [00:03:02] The dogs know that they don't have the strength to fight the wolf. [00:03:07] But when you put a wolf into a society of dogs, that wolf is smart enough to know that a hundred dogs will chew him to pieces. [00:03:21] And so you have a wolf skulking as if they're a dog, trying to blend in to this degenerate dog society and not draw attention. [00:03:34] Sometimes the wolf will internalize this rage at this submission, at having to be submissive to these vile, incompetent mutts. [00:03:47] Other times it will acquire mental disorder. [00:03:50] It'll start behaving erratically. [00:03:53] It'll start suffering from depression. [00:03:58] Because dogs are dogs, and wolves are not meant to fit in with them.
