CSPAN - Washington Journal Open Phones Aired: 2026-03-05 Duration: 01:55 === Block Trump's Strikes? (01:52) === [00:00:03] The House returns at noon Eastern to begin debating a funding package to reopen the Homeland Security Department and keep it funded through the end of September. [00:00:11] Members will vote on the spending bill later today at 4 p.m. Eastern. [00:00:15] Also, today, lawmakers are expected to vote on whether to block President Trump from conducting further strikes on Iran without approval from Congress and a resolution to reaffirm Iran as the largest state sponsor of terrorism. [00:00:29] When those votes take place, you can watch our live coverage right here on C-SPAN. [00:00:35] A foggy morning here in Washington, D.C., as we start with Congress. [00:00:39] The House is set to vote on their version of a war powers resolution later today. [00:00:44] That comes after a similar version in the Senate led by bipartisan senators Tim Kaine of Virginia and Rand Paul of Kentucky failed yesterday on a margin of 47 who approved and 53 senators who did not approve. [00:00:59] Take a listen to some of that debate yesterday on Congress. [00:01:02] Democratic leader Chuck Schumer argued in favor of passing the legislation. [00:01:09] It is clear they are widening the war in Iraq, in Iran. [00:01:13] And I fear now more than ever that we are going to put boots on the ground. [00:01:18] And that's precisely what the American people fear. [00:01:23] We still don't know how long we'll be there. [00:01:26] We still don't know what Donald Trump is even trying to accomplish. [00:01:29] This is not how you conduct foreign policy. [00:01:33] This is not how you conduct defense policy. [00:01:38] And the fault for the chaos is entirely with Donald Trump. [00:01:44] Trump is manic. [00:01:46] Whatever pops into his head, he says immediately. [00:01:49] He picks one plan one day, then he picks the total opposite the other. [00:01:53] He doesn't think it through. [00:01:54] He doesn't check the facts.
