[00:00:57] Only on C-SPAM. [00:01:03] Welcome to today's Washington Journal. [00:01:06] Here are the front pages of the national newspapers. [00:01:09] The Wall Street Journal. [00:01:11] Terror attack in Australia targets Jews. [00:01:14] Two gunmen open fire on Hanukkah event in Sydney, killing at least 15. [00:01:19] Here's the New York Times. [00:01:21] Sydney Carnage Targets Jews. [00:01:24] And the Washington Post, gunmen kill 15 at Hanukkah event in Australia. [00:01:29] Father-son acted together. [00:01:31] Jewish leaders say they warned of rising anti-Semitism. [00:01:36] And here's the Washington Times with the headline, anti-Semitic terror strikes down under U.S. Cities Ramp Up Security for Hanukkah celebrations after shooting kills 15. [00:01:49] Well, the president was at a White House Christmas event yesterday and made these comments. [00:01:54] I want to just pay my respects to the people. [00:02:00] Unfortunately, two are no longer with us. [00:02:03] Brown University, nine injured, and two are looking down on us right now from heaven. [00:02:10] And likewise in Australia, as you know, there was a terrible attack, 11 dead, 29 badly wounded. [00:02:18] And that was an anti-Semitic attack, obviously. [00:02:22] And I just want to pay my respects to everybody. [00:02:26] I must say in Syria also, we had an attack in Syria. [00:02:32] And we had three great patriots terminated by bad people. [00:02:39] And not the Syrian government. [00:02:41] It was ISIS. [00:02:42] Syrian government fought by our side. [00:02:44] The new president fought by our side. [00:02:46] But I just want to pay my respects to the families. [00:02:51] We also had three injured, but two of them are already out of the hospital. [00:02:55] One's going to be okay. [00:02:58] But we lost three, so it was a rough, it was a rough day. [00:03:03] But to Australia and the Prime Minister, to everybody that we know so well, we get along with so well, we have a great relationship. [00:03:12] That's a terrible situation going on over there. [00:03:15] Think of that. [00:03:16] And Brown University, great school, great, great, really one of the greatest schools anywhere in the world. [00:03:25] Things can happen. [00:03:26] So to the nine injured, get well fast. [00:03:30] And to the families of those two that are no longer with us, I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America. [00:03:41] And this is about the Brown University. [00:03:45] It says on the Washington Post at Brown shots, then screams in lecture hall. [00:03:49] It says, a teaching assistant held wounded students' hand, quote, put all the pain on me. [00:03:57] Well, about that Brown University shooting, this was Senator Chris Murphy on one of the Sunday shows, CNN's State of the Union, yesterday. [00:04:08] Yeah, I mean, what I think about when one of these mass shootings happens is that community in Sandy Hook. [00:04:14] Those parents, when they see these images on television, are always having to relive the horror of that day. [00:04:22] And of course, it's especially tragic given that we are marking 13 years since that shooting. [00:04:29] What I know is that a community never ever recovers from a shooting like this. [00:04:34] And the trauma and the cost is not just in the lives lost. [00:04:38] Obviously, we are mourning most deeply for those that were killed, those that were wounded, hoping that there are no more fatalities. [00:04:46] But that community in Providence won't recover.
