In just about 10 minutes or so.
Let's hear from Edna in Baltimore Line for Independence.
Good morning, Edna.
unidentified
Good morning.
Thank you for letting me come on.
But all I got to say is this about that deal.
It just shows that Trump doesn't give a rat's behind about poor people.
All he's concerned about is the little group of rich people who control everything.
He's just like a dog on a leash, and the leash is made of money.
And Congress is like a dog on a leash.
And the leash is made of money.
And when them rich people said, Jump, do this, do that, I want more money.
I don't want to pay taxes.
I'm a big corporation.
That's what they do.
They run the foreign policy and they're going to run this country into a grant into the ground.
Trump is making an ASS out of those people, those low middle-class people who think that he's for them.
He's a grifter and a con man, and he needs to be in jail.
tammy thueringer
That was Edna in Baltimore.
And Edna, thank you for censoring yourself.
We appreciate that.
We'll go to James in San Diego on the line for Republicans.
Good morning, James.
unidentified
Well, good morning.
Good morning.
I have a question.
I have a request for She Span Washington Journal first hour of the morning.
I would like you to ask all of the participants that call in: are you in favor of not taxing Social Security, not taxing tips, not taxing overtime?
And or are you not supporting the tax program and having Social Security taxed, having tips taxed, having overtime taxed, and not putting more money in your pocket?
I would appreciate you starting a program like that from one of the deplorable Republicans.
tammy thueringer
James, where do you stand on those questions you just asked?
unidentified
Being that I receive Social Security, I do not want Social Security taxed.
I want people that work at the bar, at bars and restaurants to have not to pay taxes on tips.
I want people as when I was employed, I want overtime not taxed.
I do want, that's the way I see the program.
I want more money in my pocket rather than in the federal government's pocket.
States can pay their own ways, each and every one of them.
tammy thueringer
That was James in San Diego.
Roxanne in South Carolina, line for Democrats.
Good morning, Roxanne.
unidentified
Good morning.
Something that I wish people just realized: a statement, common sense is not common.
Everybody said up, I don't understand how the bill helps millionaires and billionaires.
And so many people from the other party, the Republican Party, love to talk about the Nancy Pelosi's and all of the rich Democrats.
If the bill was great, think about this.
If the bill was so good and they're rich, wouldn't they approve it?
If they're fighting against their interest of being rich, why are they the bad guys?
It's supposed to, it's going to benefit them, right?
And as for, I don't understand about the taxes, I mean, breaks for the companies forever.
Why does a company have to have tax breaks forever?
First of all, it will benefit Trump because he will be out of office and he has a business.
That's the only person he's worried about.
He's not worried about the everyday person.
He's worrying about himself and the end of his life and his family.
And like I said earlier, common sense isn't common.
Think about that for a minute and stop blaming the rich Democrats who are saying they don't like the bill because they're willing to pay the extra taxes for poor people and middle class.
Please have a good day.
tammy thueringer
And that was Roxanne in South Carolina.
Charles, Kansas City, Missouri, line for independence.
Good morning, Charles.
unidentified
Good morning, and thank you for taking my call.
My issue that I would like to bring up has to do with terminology of debt and deficit.
And that when discussing those two issues, they're distinctly different.
The deficit is the amount by which the government's spending exceeds its revenue in a specific fiscal year.
And the debt is the total amount owed by the country to its creditors.
They're specifically different issues.
And I hear deficit being inserted into the issue of debt where it's inappropriate.
So I would really appreciate if people would think about those two words and please use them properly.
The debt is $37 trillion, and the deficit is a distinctly different issue, and they are not interchangeable.
That is my issue.
tammy thueringer
Charles, while I have you, our topic is the House voting on the Big Beautiful Bill.
What are your thoughts on that?
unidentified
My thoughts are that the government is in debt, $37 trillion, and they are planning on adding more to that debt, and that we should definitely cut back on spending and cut taxes and cut every aspect of government spending.
tammy thueringer
Charles, you're an independent.
Talk about some of the other issues, some of the other provisions that are in the bill.
Where do you fall on those?
unidentified
Well, I can't say that I know all the points.
I know those bills are long and complex, so I can't say that I really know all the issues.
All I know is that the government is extremely at fault for running the country into an untenable debt, and I am against excess spending.
tammy thueringer
That was Charles in Missouri.
Wendy in Florida, line for Republicans.
Good morning, Wendy.
unidentified
Good morning.
How are you doing?
tammy thueringer
Doing well, Wendy.
unidentified
That's good.
The reason I'm calling in is because I've been sitting here watching different channels, and different channels are telling different things.
Hello.
tammy thueringer
Wendy, are you there?
unidentified
Yes, ma'am.
tammy thueringer
Go ahead.
unidentified
Okay, I've been sitting here watching different channels, and different channels are telling different people different things.
And I live in Florida with Ron Sanchez, where Marco Rubio just left us, and Pam Bondi, all of them.
The reason for the tax breaks for the billionaires is because the CEOs are people that are moving companies into the United States.
And the reason for those tax cuts is because they've got to start those businesses and move and bring everything in there.
They've got to pay for everything.
And they've got to pay people to come in there and work.
And they got to pay for insurance on those people.
And that money, that money that they're saving on taxes is what is helping them get that business started and going and keep it going.
It's not going in their pocket.
It's going into the business that they're bringing into the United States to help save the United States and bring the United States back up.
And all of the money going to the individual people that are already in the United States, that money is being saved for them.
That taxes is being saved for them to start up their new business.
And the money's going back into the business, not in their pocket.
And then another thing on the Medicaid and Medicare, I just sat right here and watched as Dr. Oz and those FBI people just said that billions of dollars were stolen from Medicaid and Medicare and the hospitals and doctors' offices by these people that hack into the accounts.
I just got a letter through the mail from my doctor, the cancer care, Satan, that my account was hacked.
And my ex-husband's account was hacked on his life insurance.
tammy thueringer
Got your point, Wendy.
We'll leave it there only because we want to get a couple more calls in and we're running short on time.
Let's hear from Barb in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, line for Democrats.
Good morning, Barb.
unidentified
Hi.
I just wanted to comment on the gentleman who called in about no tax on tips and no tax on overtime.
First of all, cash tips are rarely taxed fully anyway.
And the overtime corporations, the Republican Party is making it so much easier for corporations to cut hours, hire people on part-time and not give them full-time.
You know, and what the little bit of money that people might save on that is going to be so countered by the increase in co-pays, deductibles, premiums going up if they're lucky enough to even still have any kind of health care coverage.
You know, I don't know.
People just don't understand.
tammy thueringer
Barb, are you working?
Do you have a job where you receive tips?
unidentified
No, I do not.
tammy thueringer
That was Barb in Iowa.
We'll try to get in a couple more calls.
Raquel, Las Vegas, Nevada, line for independence.
Good morning, Raquel.
unidentified
Good morning.
tammy thueringer
Hi, Raquel.
unidentified
Go ahead.
Hi.
I have been doing taxes for 35 years, and I saw the Trump tax cuts.
My tax bracket, my husband and I's tax bracket is a clear 24%.
A quarter of everything we make is now what the government gets from the Trump tax cuts.
I believe that used to be the corporate tax rate back then.
What he's doing right now is exactly what the Republicans are allowing him to do.
