[00:01:37] And Mr. Doherty, when and why did you start Braver Angels? [00:01:42] Well, we started it right after the 2016 presidential election when one of our co-founders, David Blankenhor in New York City, was talking to another co-founder, David Lapp, who were in Southwest, he was in Southwest Ohio about how people were feeling about the election. [00:01:59] The world was ending in New York City. [00:02:01] It was hope for America in Southwest Ohio. [00:02:04] They decided on the spur of the moment to get to get 10 Hillary Clinton voters, 10 Donald Trump voters together for 13 hours over a weekend in Southwest Ohio to see if they could talk with each other, not just about each other. === Family Therapist's Facilitation Work (00:44) === [00:02:15] Asked me to facilitate it. [00:02:16] It was a beautiful, great, it was a great experience, and we decided to keep going. [00:02:21] Asked you to facilitate it. [00:02:22] Why? [00:02:22] What's your background? [00:02:23] Well, I'm a family therapist, marriage and family therapist, and have done a lot of community engagement work. [00:02:28] So I know how to work with people who are at odds with each other. [00:02:31] So how many of those sit-downs have you facilitated? [00:02:35] How many people have gone through the Braver Angels program in the time since? [00:02:39] Well, 3,500 workshops of various kinds since then, 50,000, 60,000 people. [00:02:47] And so we spread around the country. [00:02:49] And our mission is to have reds and blues in leadership.
