So as the Consumer Lab article points out, which I'll also link to in the show notes, a lot of what's being sold is effective in certain contexts, like the beginning of getting sick.
But daily usage is effectively useless, and at worst, dangerous.
I know these influencers like to pretend that all pharma is bad, and nature is all healing and good, but first of all, that's just false, and it's also just marketing.
And then, as I was working on episode 131, I was working on the clips that Mallory had sent.
My wife had heard them from the other room and was like, what is going on there?
And then she sent me this clip from Instagram and she was like, why is this showing up as an ad in my feed?
And it's from a naturopath and her name is Stacey Barzak Baker.
And if you're wondering if there's an affiliate link with 25% off limited run sale in the description of this clip, you are absolutely correct.
So let's listen to the clip.
that my wife had stumbled across.
Often people come to me and they've been working with somebody and they're not really getting
where they wanna be.
And all too often people come to me and they've been working with somebody
and they're not really getting where they wanna be.
And we're going through supplements and I'm like, where's your binder?
And they're like, well, we're not on a binder.
And so for me, that's an important piece of detoxing.
You have to be able to remove the toxins that your body's releasing, right?
And that's a lie.
A lot of times people feel sicker when they're detoxing because they're not pulling those toxins out.
And a lot of times we're stuck in our liver.
So if your liver is burdened and you can't process it, and I have yet to see someone without a burdened liver, let's say your colon pathway is backed up or something like that, then you're not moving those toxins out.
That's why it's so, so important that along your healing journey, you're working with a practitioner to incorporate a binder into your protocol, especially one like I use that's going to cross the blood-brain barrier and one that's not going to strip the body of its nutrients because we deal with so many nutrient deficiencies.
That's the last thing we need to be pulling from those reserves that we already don't So that's why I use Cellcor that has a carbon backbone.
It's not going to steal your nutrients.
It's actually going to put nutrients back where they need to go and it's going to bind and form bonds with the toxins so that they can be properly removed and it is the only one that can cross the blood-brain barrier.
So it's really important if you are trying to detox, trying to heal to incorporate binders responsibly so that your body can actually bind and remove them properly.
Okay, so Stacey has 101,000 followers on Instagram and her main descriptor is vibe wellness.
And I must admit, adding another supplement on top of your supplement stack is certainly a vibe.
As Matthew points out in this week's episode, it becomes a type of infinite regression.
You need this.
And this before your protocol, and then you need this and this after your protocol, which all prepares you for your next cleanse because you must always be cleansing because everything is toxic.
It's recursion all the way down.
By the way, I looked up Cellcor, which is what Stacey was pimping there, and if you wanted a new term, they have it for you.
Welcome to foundational medicine, which they state is, quote, the missing piece in integrative and functional medicine practices.
And it goes on, as the precursor to functional medicine, foundational medicine begins at the utmost root level.
It helps patients return homeostasis by delivering key nutrients to upregulate mitochondrial function, which is necessary for the proper function of every cell, organ, and tissue.
And there it is.
That is the game.
Always looking for the prime mover or first cause?
Oh, you thought that protocol was the root of all health?
Fuck that.
Our protocol is the baby daddy of that one and the other one over there.
It all reminds me of children yelling they have infinity of something until the next kid goes infinity plus one.
Which of course prompts the response, infinity plus infinity, whereas the really smart kid would then say infinity times infinity, and then everyone became so exhausted and bored they just went and played kickball.
Only, there's no fun at the end of this infinite supplement regression.
It's just more bullshit marketing all the way.
This term, binders, something that describes this already exists in the literature.
It's called an adjuvant.
So, an adjuvant is a substance which enhances the body's immune response to an antigen.
And an antigen, of course, is a toxin or other foreign substance which induces an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies.
But wellness influencers won't use the word adjuvant because that is associated with vaccines, so now we have binders.
Binders full of supplements.
