You may have heard that on the 31st of August 2019, news outlet Subverse is teaming up with social media platform Minds.com and the Myth-Informed podcast to host an event called Minds IRL.
There they plan to discuss the topics that divide us and have panel discussions with commentators and academics from a wide range of backgrounds, races and genders, but most importantly, different political affiliations.
There are people there from both the left and the right that plan to have discussions on such topics as ending racism, violence and authoritarianism, discussions on immigration, the ineffectiveness of prohibition, corporate activism, the state of comedy, the consequences of political violence and how to admit when you're wrong.
So, naturally, when the people who are absolutely wrong on everything but love authoritarianism, racism and violence heard about such an event, they had to take action.
That's right.
Antifar decided to start harassing the Pittman Broadway Theatre, the scheduled venue for this interesting one-day event.
It began with emails like this.
Hello, I wanted to draw your attention to an event on August 31st at your venue, hosted by Minds.com.
Minds is a social media site which believes in no moderation.
As a result, it has become a popular forum for white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and others banned from traditional social media sites.
That is pretty great framing.
I mean, Minds does have moderation, and the venue is probably aware of the events that they host, but we'll frame it as if they don't, and they're not actually aware that the Minds IRL event is happening there.
Also, Nazis are using Minds.com apparently, like they do with every other social media site, which we will now label as traditional social media sites.
Has social media been around long enough to form traditions?
Probably not, but let's carry on.
This event has several speakers who hold disgraceful views of non-whites, gays, Muslims, Jews, and women.
My goodness, all of those victim groups.
Well, shocks, Mr. Communist.
Your bigoted far-left opinions on what is disgraceful sure is pertinent to the issue.
Who have you got in mind?
Carl Benjamin.
Yep, that's me.
I did indeed make jokes on the internet.
Guilty as charged.
Mark Meacham, aka Count Ancula.
Yeah, he made jokes on the internet too.
Guilty is charged.
Shoe on head, my goodness, she definitely made jokes on the internet.
Totally guilty.
Rucker Rucker Ali.
My god, his entire career is telling jokes on the internet.
Guilty.
Hunter Avalone.
Now, I'm not too familiar with this chat, but they linked to a site called Queerty, which whines about the fact that Hunter appears to have opinions on transgenderism in a video that they state is deliberately designed to offend.
So presumably, they got offended.
Thus follows a series of emails that were generated from followers of a Twitter account called No Hate NJ, presumably New Jersey, which is apparently some kind of radical leftist anti-comedy activist account that decided to put out a Twitter thread to complain about the speakers.
This is what they said.
Here are some of the speakers who promote hate and violence attending this event.
Hang on, stop there.
None of these people promote violence, and what you consider to be hateful is really quite irrelevant.
But anyway, Carl Benjamin, aka Sargon of Maccad, instrumental in Gamergate, all-round bigots, and a proponent of paedophilia.
Does the the Jesus does the theatre really think this promotes discussion?
Woo lad!
That's a hell of a series of allegations.
Look, one, Gamergate did nothing wrong.
Two, I'm actually open to listening to new ideas, hence me attending the event.
And three, the Sun is what you would normally describe as a right-wing, Murdoch-owned fake news outlet.
But in this case, you like the fake news that they have produced, and so you're on board with using it as a disgusting smear.
Needless to say, this is not true.
Mark Meeken, aka Count Dankula, who was convicted of hate crimes in the UK.
So what?
All that proves is that the UK is not a free country.
The US does not have hate speech laws.
This is like going to California and saying that Dankula was arrested for smoking weed.
Aiden Paladin, a Holocaust denier.
This is a particularly pernicious allegation, as she was discussing the Holocaust with Dan of Deutschland, a radical leftist, who gave her two different estimates for the number of deaths during the Holocaust, which appears to have been instrumental to her point that the numbers are contested.
From Dan's own statement, doesn't that make Dan of Deutschland a Holocaust denier also?
And he's a German socialist.
Really makes you think.
Andy No, an alt-right adjacent Coilette contributor who's promoted race science and a fake conspiracy that got journalists put on a neo-Nazi hit list.
Race science is a pretty ambiguous term.
I mean, is it the scientific details of how people differ, like the amount of melanin in their skin and various eye socket shapes and immunities to certain vulnerabilities, certain diseases?
You know, the sort of thing you'd find in anthropology textbooks.
I mean, what are we talking about here?
And alt-right adjacent is literally anyone, isn't it?
According to Antifar.
What does that even mean?
Not alt-right.
And if we're complaining about fake news, let's have a look in the plank in our own eye, given how many lies you've already told, No Hate New Jersey.
Megan Murphy, editor of Feminist Currents, a TERF responsible for much transphobia in the US, Canada and UK.
So a feminist who believes that, alongside 99% of the world's population believing that, gender is informed by our biological reality.
I have no idea how we can quantify that she's responsible for so much international transphobia, and honestly I'd never actually heard of her, so I doubt she's actually quite that influential.
Hunter Avalone, another anti-trans bigot and purveyor of transphobic nonsense.
I'm reasonably sure that this description could have been applied to anyone on the list if No Hate New Jersey had felt like it, but I'm guessing they just don't know enough about Hunter Avalone to be able to pull out anything else that they've said that they object to.
Karen Strawn, a men's rights activists, who has promoted even more vile sexists like Rouch V and others.
Honestly, I'd platform anyone who is capable of being a singular plural just to find out how they did it, and I can't help but notice that this comes with a link to Rational Wiki, the most rational place to find a person's crimes against progressivism.
June Lapine, aka shoe on head, who has accused Black Lives Matter of wanting to start a race war and has said that Leslie Jones of Ghostbusters fame looks like a gorilla.
Yeah, also Black Lives Matter clearly do want to start a race war.
I mean, it's implicit in the fact that they seem to hate white people.
Also, a guy shot a bunch of cops after being inspired by their activism.
I'm just saying, there seems to be a few problems with Black Lives Matter.
There were quite a few emails that followed this line of misinformation sent to the Pittman Theatre, but the theatre owners simply replied with, thanks for your concern, but this is none of your business since we noticed that you've never been a customer.
No Hate New Jersey weren't very happy about this, and apparently managed to hack into the Pittman Theatre's Twitter account, replacing the usual text with, Deplatform Racists.
This account has been taken over until the Pittman Theatre agrees to cancel the Minds event, hosting racist, transphobic, Holocaust-denying speakers on August 31st.
They also tweeted things like, they're trying to deflect their own responsibility for even considering renting up the theatre to hatemongers.
It's like saying, we're not promoting the Nuremberg rallies, we're just renting out the stadium.
Talk to Mr. Hitler if you have a problem.
Because naturally, they're unproven and unprovable allegations, and personal bigotry and hatred towards reasonable dialogue means that everyone else is Hitler.
Historical illiteracy aside, we get to the real concern of Antifar.
Everyone who isn't us is a Nazi.
Naturally, there are no actual fascists speaking at the Minds IRL event, but when has the truth ever gotten in the way of Antifar's desire to hurt people who disagree with them?
So then Antifar started sending threats, such as suggesting that they burn down the theatre with all the speakers inside.
Then they decided that they're going to host a quote-unquote peaceful protest outside of the theatre, which, if the recent violence in Portland that Antifar engaged in is any benchmark, is likely to be a danger to the public.
So the Pittman Theatre cancelled the event out of fear from the far-left activists of peace, but the team behind the event decided that they would not simply let a handful of communists win the day.
As the post-millennial reported, the Minds IRL free speech event will take place despite the smear tactics and threats of violence from Antifar.
There are other venues, and the ending racism, violence, and authoritarianism event will still go ahead, because we all refused to be intimidated into silence by a group of violent racist authoritarians.
And as a quick aside, if Antifar were not the violent racist authoritarians that they clearly seem to be, they could contact the Minds IRL team and ask to come and talk.
I am sure they would be given a platform if they wanted to have a say in the dialogue, instead of preventing the dialogue from even happening.
The real question is, why are they able to get away with this?
Why aren't the mayor and the police force of the town committing to protecting the lawful event?
Why are they not investigating and prosecuting any of the people intimidating and threatening the venue?
I doubt we'll get answers, but the Mines IRL event is still taking place in a venue in Pittman, New Jersey.
I'll leave a link in the description if you'd like to get tickets and come down and hear such an amazing array of different speakers discuss some of the most pressing issues of the day, and you can also get a ticket to the ARTA party so you can come and hang out with the speakers and chat with us.
