Why do these weak children parrot their racist parents?
I hope college admission counselors remember the name hashtag Covington Catholic.

We are hearing from a Native American elder and Vietnam War veteran speaking to CNN after a disturbing viral video shows a group of teens harassing and mocking him in the nation's capital.
Here's the video sparking outrage on social media right now.
Nathan Phillips was beating his drum and singing an American Indian protest song.
And this was on Friday on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when he saw a clash erupting between a group of teenage students and four African-American young men preaching about the Bible and oppression.
Well, Phillips says he immediately sensed danger.
Well, I've heard enough.
I too would like to join the Twitter outrage mob.
Never, never in my life did I heckle or threaten an elder or disabled or someone different to me.

I was brought up with the to be kind and love others, even when they are different.
This is excusing and enabling radicalization of our youth.

The boys knew they were being videoed.

Imagine sending the students at your school to DC on a field trip to protest abortion rights and you wind up making national news because your students surround, mock, and harass a Native American elder on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Of course, that guy was also the guy with the gunshin to ask for extensions, to miss class an email asking what I miss, to plagiarise, to get a C and come to office hours and try to flirt his way to get a better grade.
The gall of his mediocrity never ceased to surprise me.
I encountered this guy at big state schools and small elite private colleges.
His accent and major might change, but the fundamentals of his identity do not.
He was white, he was male.
And at least as far as he performed it, he was straight.
This kid and his behavior is a symptom of something much larger.
I don't think focuses on him specifically does much, and also leads to the current narrative of his victimhood.

But really, Jessica Valenti was the one who captured how I really felt about seeing that kid smirk.

And let's not please forget that this group of teens who crowded around to mock and harass Nathan Phillips were there for the march for life.
This is an inextricable link between control over women's bodies, white supremacy, and young white male entitlement.

But the Native American is a pure-hearted and good soul, I can tell because of his connection to nature.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press by phone, Nathan Phillips explained what happened after 5pm during the Indigenous Peoples March he was attending and spoke of his history working for the cause of Native American people.
Prior to what is seen in the now viral video, Phillips said he, a former Marine, was in DC attending a Native American rally.
Near the end of the rally, he tried to keep the peace between a group of mostly white students attending a March for Life event and a gathering of about four black members of a religious group known as the Black Hebrew Israelites.
I've heard of them.
They're black.
Therefore, they must be good.
They were in the process of attacking these four black individuals.
I was there and I was witnessing all of this, and this kept going on and escalating.
It just got to a point where you do something or you walk away, you know?
You see something that is wrong and you're faced with that choice of right or wrong.
One of my young people came up to me and says, Uncle, we've got to do something.
Phillips said that some of the members of the black Hebrew group were also acting up, saying some harsh things, and that one member spit in the direction of the Catholic students.
So I put myself in between that, between a rock and a hard place.
Well, I'm sure when the video of the black Israelites comes out, it's not going to be anything like really bad or anything.
It's not going to be like white supremacy.
I mean, they're not gonna sound like Nazis or anything.

But then, the crowd of mostly male Catholic students turned their anger towards Phillips.
There was that moment when I realized I've put myself between beast and prey.
These young men were beastly, and these old black individuals were their prey, and I stood in between them, and so they needed their pounds of flesh, and they were looking at me for that.
Predators.
These young Nazis from Covington Catholic School were nothing but predators.
And they were there to attack these innocent black Hebrew Israelites who did absolutely nothing wrong.
The crowd of students, some of whom wore MAGA caps, turned on him, mocked Native Americans while chanting, Build the wall, and using derogatory language, he said.
The Vietnam War veteran said the students from a Catholic school in Kentucky had a mob mentality that was scary.
It was ugly what these kids were involved in.
It was racism.
It was hatred.
It was scary.
Well, I'm afraid.
And you should be too.
And now that we've established that these kids were racist, they were about to tear the poor black Israelites limb from limb until this heroic Native American stood in the way and said, Look, I am lighter skinned than those black men.
Take me instead.
And this is how the magic of race relations works in 2019.
Phillips said he recalled the looks in these young men's faces.
I mean, if you go back and look at the lynchings that was done, and you'd see the faces on the people, the glee and the hatred in their faces, that's what these faces look like.
When I took that drum and started singing, I placed myself between these two factions of people.
It wasn't a real conscious process.
It was just what they call a spur of the moment.

I'm glad that they closed oversecurity concerns.
After meeting with local authorities, they made the decision to cancel the school on Tuesday to ensure the safety of their students.
