PewDiePie vs Naggers

Time Text
YouTube superstar PewDiePie has apologized for his use of the N-word.
I'm still here.
I'm still making videos.
What a fucking nigger.
try again motherfuckers so pewdiepie said the word nigger on a stream and the world is now on fire from the perspective of the left-wing verified journos This is the clip in question.
What?
What the fuck is happening?
What the hell was that?
The potato was fucking insane.
I was holding it so fucking straight.
What a fucking nigger.
Jeez.
Oh my god.
What the fuck?
Sorry, but what the fuck?
What a fucking asshole.
I don't mean that in a bang which he said.
I think it's pretty obvious from the context that PewDiePie was frustrated with the game and blurted out the worst possible word he could think of as a method of catharsis to release his anger at the game.
And so it came as no surprise to me that he said this in his apology video.
As well.
It was something that I said in the heat of the moment.
I said the worst word I could possibly think of and it just sort of slipped out.
I personally come from the George Carlin school on events like these.
Words are neutral.
Intent is what matters.
You can say a word like nigger without racially abusing someone and there is no one accusing PewDiePie of racially abusing someone.
And the thing is, there is a cultural context for him using the word nigger, if you can believe it.
He actually explains this in his video.
You probably won't believe me when I say this, but whenever I go online and I hear other players use the same kind of language that I did, I always find it extremely immature and stupid.
And I hate how I now personally fed into that part of gaming.
And he's right.
This is a facet of some hyper-competitive, mostly male-dominated online cultures, and it is absolutely as childish as it seems.
But being infantile is not the same as being a racist.
And while I don't play those games and I'm not part of those communities, I still think they have a right to exist as infantile as they are.
But PewDiePie knew that what he'd done was wrong and was going to be interpreted wrong.
And so he apologized immediately after on the stream and he produced an apology video explaining why he thought he was wrong.
And I'm not going to make any excuses to why it did because there are no excuses for it.
I'm disappointed in myself because it seems like I've learned nothing from all these past controversies.
And it's not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it.
That's not it at all.
I'm just an idiot.
But that doesn't make what I said or how I said it okay.
It was not okay.
I'm really sorry if I offended, hurt, or disappointed anyone with all of this.
Being in the position I am, I should know better.
I know I can't keep messing up like this.
And I owe it to my audience and to myself to do better than this because I know I'm better than this.
I really want to improve myself and better myself.
Not just for me, but for anyone that looks up to me or anyone that's influenced by me.
And that's how I want to move forward away from this.
It is, of course, big of him to apologize for giving offense, but I personally wouldn't have apologized in this situation because I don't really think offense has been taken.
The reactions I found from the progressive journalists appear to just be, oh my goodness, he said the forbidden word.
And I don't see any black people acting like they're genuinely offended.
They're either fake outraged like Tariq Nasheed, or they're taking the piss like Derek Blackman.
What a fucking nigger.
Nigger.
Like I said in my other videos, these words aren't going to bring me to my knees.
I'm not a little kid.
You know, what they teach you, sticks and stones may break my bones.
Words can never hurt you.
That kind of thing.
Something that you should practice.
Just if you hear something like that, don't let it bother you too much.
Just dismiss it and be like, oh, no, stupid.
Whatever.
Try to move on and don't try to make a campaign about this.
Like, he's ruined my life.
I'm triggered.
I have PTSD now, and that's how a lot of people are treating it.
I'll leave a link to Derek's channel in the description if you want to check out more of his stuff.
And you should.
He's a funny guy.
And he's absolutely right.
That is how some people are treating it.
Look at Anna Kasparian's response.
Look, for me, it was less about him saying that word.
I mean, at this point, I feel like there's so much hideous stuff going on in the world that I'm desensitized to words.
That's good, but I can't imagine thinking that I'm obliged to respond because someone said a particular word.
She can't muster it in herself to be bothered about this word, but she knows she should be.
Everyone else is, after all.
And the thing is, I think I can explain this, but I'm going to do it in a later video because it's part of a larger project that I'm working on at the moment.
Even though no one should use that word.
Probably going to spell the end of the gangster rap industry.
Okay, go on.
But the part of the story that I thought was relevant was just like this constant complaining from people who create content on YouTube about advertisers pulling out.
Yes, advertisers pull out when they feel uncomfortable with your content, and it affects all of us, not just the person who puts out that so-called questionable content, right?
I covered this extensively in a video called The Natural Enemies of YouTube.
Speaking of the adpocalypse, I have seen people saying that PewDiePie is somehow responsible for this.
The answer is he is not.
This was the result of the Wall Street Journal and the Sunday Times investigating adverts appearing on white supremacist Holocaust denial or other undesirable videos.
PewDiePie telling a few off-coloured jokes is not the reason.
So no, Anna, you can't just tie this back to the inquisition leveled at YouTube by the mainstream press.
They are the problem, not PewDiePie.
And I don't think we should appease them.
By the way, my favorite part about this story was some of the reaction that we got on Twitter.
One person thought that I was monstrous for supporting the video game developer who decided to do copyright strikes against PewDiePie.
I don't think you're monstrous.
I think you're silly.
The developer doesn't have a case to file copyright strikes against PewDiePie anyway.
It's silly, but having social norms enforced by frivolous lawsuits is probably a bad idea to the point where even feminist frequency knows it.
Should video game developers issue copyrights, issue copyright strikes on PewDiePie?
And that was TYTNetwork.com slash pie.
And only 33.5% said yes.
66.5% said no, they shouldn't.
There's honestly a part of me that's just relatively pleased that such a large percentage of the TYT audience is still sane.
You can't force advertisers to advertise on any given show.
I mean, that's ridiculous.
Yes, that would be absurd, which is why nobody is saying it.
What we're saying is the media shouldn't go on a fear-mongering campaign to advertisers on tenuous evidence for a small percentage of videos on the premise that people connect, I don't know, Coca-Cola or Pepsi to white supremacy and Holocaust denial because people don't connect those two things.
And this fear-mongering campaign by the media is what is hurting YouTubers.
You know, I think that he's largely joking.
I hope that he is.
I believe that he is, and my sense of it is that he thinks people are overly sensitive to it because we are beyond those issues.
As we pointed out yesterday, I don't think we're beyond the racial issues at all.
Yeah, and with the left in the state that it is now, we are never going to be beyond these issues.
You're the ones who are freaking out that he said the word nigger on a stream.
No one else cares.
No one fucking cares.
This is not news.
What this is, is part of the regressive left's bourgeois mission to recreate the white man's burden.
In their case, it's them protecting the poor innocent black people from the word nigger.
Because if a black person hears the word nigger, they just spaz out uncontrollably.
They can't help themselves.
And you know what, right?
I think that perpetuating that kind of attitude eventually leads some people to think that they should be affected by the word nigger.
I mean, look at this.
I'm holding you fucking 28 minutes.
Guys, sit down.
You would have already done something, wouldn't you?
Go ahead.
Go ahead.
I told you 28 minutes.
Say it again.
You won't say it right now.
Of course, my feet.
Toons.
Oh, my God.
That's real, man.
Yo.
Thank you.
Oh my god.
I don't know how to do it.
Oh shit!
Hold up!
Bullshit!
Bullshit!
What?
Anyone feel good watching that?
Anyone feel good watching a black kid punching a white woman in the face because she said some words?
This is what you are facilitating when you say that the word nigger should have power that it does not deserve.
This should not be happening.
Black people should hear the word nigger and say, I don't give a fuck.
And to not do this, to try and protect them from the adverse effects of a single word, is to instill into their characters a weakness that can be exploited by people who hate them.
If you actually cared about these people, you would want to make it so that they couldn't be touched by mere words.
There is no reason any of them should be bothered by this because let's be honest, until that guy started punching, the woman seemed like the bad guy in that situation, didn't she?
She's the one sat there reeling off racial epithets and then he starts punching her repeatedly and mercilessly in the face.
And the worst part is that I am absolutely certain that any intersectional feminist who watches that video is sat there thinking, well, I don't like it that he's punching a woman, but she did deserve it for calling him the N-word.
This Guardian article is exactly what I mean.
PewDiePie must not be excused.
Using the N-word is never okay.
Written by a lady who is not black.
Using the N-word is never okay.
It's a fairly easy rule to live by, but one that needs repeating in the wake of YouTube megastar Felix Schellberg's latest controversy.
But I love this.
Commonly known as PewDiePie, the vlogger called another player, quotes, a fucking nigger during a video live stream.
You can say it, can you?
You're not black.
It's never okay to use the N-word, but you can quote it verbatim in your article, can you?
Honestly, the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the regressive left is infuriating.
You've just shown us that there is an example of a time where it is acceptable to use the word nigger, and that's when you're quoting someone else who used the word nigger.
Despite the public outcry, many people are coming to Schellberg's defense, some using the hashtag PewDiePie DidNothing Wrong, dismissing the event as a crime of gaming passion, because that's what it was.
This ignores his influence and sends a clear message that it's okay to be racist in the gaming community.
Well, he wasn't actually being racist.
He was trying to be offensive.
That's literally what his goal was.
Find the worst, most offensive word he could think of, and then shout it loudly.
And that's what he did.
It wasn't used as a racial slur.
The casual use of racial slurs needs to be condemned wholeheartedly, every single time.
There is never a good reason to use the language displayed in this video.
Playing a video game is not an excuse, just as being drunk or angry does not give anyone free reign to use racist insults.
Alright, Jack Thompson, thanks very much.
Yeah, maybe we should take out all the Satanist imagery as well in Doom.
Perhaps there are some other social rules you have that you wish to enforce on other people.
Because I don't care that he said this word, and I'm sure that most other people don't care.
And to be honest with you, I don't think you care, because this is not the first time PewDiePie has said the word nigger.
You didn't care back in January, and you don't care now.
This is about control, and you know it.
I think this is a complete non-event to the public at large, and so the bourgeois press reporting on this is nothing more than them trying to enforce their own morality on other people rather than serving the public interest.
This is part of their class mythos.
You cannot ever say this word.
Any instances of saying this word is the worst thing ever.
Black people are going to be rioting in the streets.
They're going to break down in tears.
They don't know what to do.
And we want them to think that.
Stop it.
It's not healthy to have some kind of trigger word that can never be said and if said, justifies any kind of response.
It's just a word and it only has the power you give it.
