Sargon of Akkad - Carl Benjamin - What Next? Aired: 2017-08-15 Duration: 06:32 === Running Things By You (06:32) === [00:00:00] Hey everyone, so this is an excuse to test a new camera and a microphone that I got for it because everyone's complaining that my mobile setup sucked. [00:00:08] The sound quality was terrible. [00:00:10] It was because I was using the cheapest, crappiest equipment I could find. [00:00:14] But I bought a new camera and I thought I'd test it. [00:00:17] It seems pretty good, which is good to cost the fucking earth. [00:00:21] So I thought I'd run a few things by you guys. [00:00:23] So you've probably heard me talking about doing things IRL. [00:00:28] And I think it's important that we do do things IRL. [00:00:31] And I spoke about doing a This Week in Stupid Live or something similar. [00:00:35] I don't think I don't know exactly what I'll do, but like, I don't know, just, I don't know, rent a venue, sell tickets to a certain place and see what happens. [00:00:46] Because we did the shitlord meetup down in London and a hundred people turned out and I hadn't even advertised it. [00:00:53] And I was just, you know, it was really nice to see everyone. [00:00:58] And it would be nice to be able to do things for people. [00:01:00] Because it was just in a random park and I was just kind of surrounded by people who wanted to talk to me. [00:01:03] I was thinking, right, okay, this is a bit much. [00:01:05] If I had a bit more structure and organization to this, this might be, it might go a bit smoother. [00:01:09] So yeah, I was thinking about doing just some kind of live show. [00:01:12] And I think I could probably get some other interesting YouTubers to come down for it and give presentations of their own. [00:01:19] And it could be fun. [00:01:21] It could be quite interesting. [00:01:24] I guess the question is, how many people would be willing to travel and pay? [00:01:28] I don't know what the price of tickets would be, but I can't imagine it would be that much. [00:01:32] So I'm genuinely worried about how much time I've got left on YouTube. [00:01:34] I think that eventually my channel will too be in the gulag, regardless of the fact that, you know, I'm an anti-racist, regardless of the fact that I'm a liberal, regardless of the fact that I spend my time criticizing lots of different types of people from lots of different ideologies. [00:01:48] I think eventually they will just say, well, you know what? [00:01:50] This guy's too much work. [00:01:52] And I think that'll go for the other skeptics as well. [00:01:54] And I think the problem that we have is that we are effective at challenging their ideology. [00:01:59] So I'll leave a link in the description to a survey that you can give me feedback on. [00:02:03] I really would like to know if you, even if you wouldn't, if you're not interested in coming, let me know as well. [00:02:08] You know, it's good to know the actual proportions. [00:02:11] So I've got some real data to work with. [00:02:13] I'm pretty sure we could put on some good live shows. [00:02:15] It'd basically be like a live stream, but just live. [00:02:19] Strange, isn't it? [00:02:20] But I think we can make it worth your while. [00:02:22] And it would be a way of supporting content creators. [00:02:25] And I'm sure we could do, you know, question answer meets and stuff like that. [00:02:29] You know, that would be no problem, you know, from my point of view anyway. [00:02:32] So yeah, let me know what you think, because I honestly think our time on YouTube is coming to a close. [00:02:39] Because I mean, my secondary channel has been entirely placed into the potentially demonetized category. [00:02:46] Not every video has been demonetized, but hundreds of the videos on my alternate channel were hit with the, you know, manual review requests. [00:02:55] And it took an afternoon for me to go through and manually request all these reviews. [00:02:59] And I think this is the boiling frog syndrome. [00:03:02] You know, they're just slowly turning up the temperature. [00:03:04] And it makes more sense for us to jump out of the pot. [00:03:08] I won't be closing my YouTube channel, obviously. [00:03:10] Even if it gets entirely demonetized, I'll still use it. [00:03:14] But obviously I'll need a way of financing my life. [00:03:18] I have a family to take care of after all. [00:03:21] But yeah, and I've got a few other things that are in the works that should be quite exciting. [00:03:26] But I think the live event is the quickest and easiest thing for us to be able to do. [00:03:31] And hopefully you guys will enjoy it. [00:03:33] I mean, I think it could be a lot of fun. [00:03:34] I think we can cause some mischief. [00:03:39] Because people pay attention to you when you're in real life. [00:03:41] They actually care when you're in front of them. [00:03:43] When you're on the internet, it doesn't matter how many hundreds of thousands of people you're speaking to. [00:03:48] They can pretend like you don't exist. [00:03:50] But when you're there in the flesh, they can't. [00:03:53] And I think that's an interesting thing. [00:03:56] And I think we should be taking advantage of that. [00:03:59] Especially if we want to push our ideas forward at the expense of their ideas, which is what we want to do ultimately, isn't it? [00:04:06] I mean, I don't think anyone wants to see this collectivist horseshit get any further than it already has. [00:04:10] And after Charlottesville, let's be honest, it's gone too far. [00:04:13] So we need to give people an alternative and make ourselves able to punch into the public domain without them characterizing us. [00:04:22] And to that extent, I mean, honestly, what we need is, and I hate to say the M-word, a manifesto, or at least a statement of principles or something like that. [00:04:32] But I don't really want to be the sort of person who writes a manifesto. [00:04:35] So if someone wants to crowdsource one, I'm more than willing to give it a read. [00:04:41] But yeah, so I think conferences or live shows are a good idea. [00:04:45] I mean, everyone else does them. [00:04:47] There's no reason we can't do them. [00:04:48] And I think ours would be the more interesting ones. [00:04:50] Because the thing is, I don't just want to give a platform to people who agree with what I think. [00:04:54] I'm more than happy to have a person on the stage who's got differing views. [00:04:59] So maybe we could ask them questions and actually interrogate their beliefs and the coherency of their worldview. [00:05:05] But again, all of this is really rather speculative. [00:05:08] So I'll leave a link in the description so you can fill that out and tell me how interested you are in this. [00:05:14] Because I honestly wake up in the morning and I do wonder if today is the day when YouTube have decided they've just had enough of me. [00:05:22] And I'm not trying to play the victim or anything, but it's honestly worrying me at this point. [00:05:28] It's honestly worrying. [00:05:30] I don't feel secure at all. [00:05:31] And I can't imagine there are many other alternative content creators who deal with politics who feel that way. [00:05:38] And even those who don't deal with politics. [00:05:40] I mean, I've seen, I get loads of comments and messages from people who are non-political channels, who have been absolutely hammered by the adpocalypse and are having the same appeals rolled out to them. [00:05:53] And it's becoming a real problem. [00:05:55] So let me know what you think, because I think we've got something good going here. [00:05:57] And I don't want to just allow them to take it all away from us. [00:06:01] You know, I don't want... [00:06:02] Because I see my channel as very much a group endeavour. [00:06:05] I don't just see it as, it's not just me, you know. [00:06:08] My channel would be nothing if it wasn't for you watching. [00:06:10] And so I don't see why we can't do things that we all enjoy. [00:06:15] If you guys are willing to pay ticket price to go somewhere, then I'm willing to put a show on. [00:06:22] Even if it's just me there rambling with a microphone about whatever stupid thing happened in the news, I think it could be quite fun. [00:06:28] And I'm sure I could get some good guests. [00:06:30] And so yeah, let me know what you think.
