Steve "Destiny" Bonnell II: Retraction Via DMCA
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
So, the chap you can see on the screen here is a one Steve Bonnell II, who streams under the name of Destiny, and he is by far my favourite Steve Bonnell.
Now, for some reason, he's having a bit of trouble because I posted a few clips of interesting and pertinent things that Steve said in his debate because I wanted to talk about those things further.
And I thought they might be useful for other people to see because it's a two-hour debate.
It's quite difficult to expect people to really go through and pick out all of your vital and valuable arguments.
So, it would be more pertinent to take a few of those clips and then link straight back to his channel, which is exactly what I did.
And I'm sure you can understand why one of my eyebrows rose very slightly in wry surprise when I found I'd received two copyright strikes from Steve Bonnell II on those videos.
I thought, well, that's ungentlemanly.
I'd followed the usual rules of rehosting content, which Steve Bonnell II is usually pretty okay with.
But apparently, I'm abusing it and I'm making him look bad, even though I think I accurately titled those videos, given the content within.
And since I am now well within the bounds of fair use, I will show you those videos so you can see that the titles do indeed reflect the content.
Here are the four videos.
You can see the two that have been copyright strikes because they're missing the thumbnail.
But I privated the other two because it was clear that he didn't want these videos on my channel.
And if he had but asked, I would have taken them down.
So this is nothing is happening in Europe.
You pretend that the last four to eight years didn't fucking happen.
I'm not gaslighting your side of the definition of gaslighting.
Dude, you're telling me that there are riots all over Europe and riots all over Sweden.
No, they're talking!
They're not!
I'm sorry to say this, Destiny, but it really seems as if you are telling people you do not believe that there are any riots or protests or any trouble happening in Europe right now.
That seems to be your perspective.
And so I think that is accurately summarized in the title, Nothing is Happening in Europe.
You're also completely wrong on that subject.
The next one is entitled, What's Wrong with Communism?
It does come from one side.
Trump is a reaction to the retarded identity politics of the last two years.
You're talking about reaction to identity politics, dog.
Half the people that were tweeting at me in response to what you were saying to me were literal Nazis and white supremacists, like Lincoln.
Look, man, it's this guilt by association shit.
Why don't you denounce all the communists in your movement?
Wait, what's wrong with communists?
Is that what you just said?
Wait, what does communism have to do with any of this?
Well, what do Nazis have to do with this?
The people, it's a political and race ideology.
Communism is just an economic thing.
That is a literal excerpt from that video and represents the question you were asking.
And you seem to stand by it.
I mean, it's just an economic theory after all.
The next clip was directly referring to this.
I'm a white woman.
I don't get it.
I am pleased and honored to be here today to have the conversation.
I am so excited that we're here.
And I am listening because that's my job.
My job is to listen to the issues.
My job is to listen and be a voice.
And my job is to shut other white people down when they want to interrupt.
My job is to shut other white people down when they want to say, oh no, I'm not prejudiced.
That woman literally thinks that white people should shut up.
And if Mr. Bonnell decides to endorse those comments, then it's fair to say that he thinks white people should shut up.
I think human beings are at the core tribal, and they tend to want to stick to their own.
I think it's completely natural, completely normal.
And so you've already proven that statement wrong in what you're saying, because you think you're a white person and you're half Iranian and what did you say Hungarian?
That wouldn't have been considered a white person 100 years ago.
100 years ago, Irish wasn't considered a person.
I'm not talking about me.
I'm talking about mass immigration.
Like when they want to basically, you know, I mean, they've gone and they've said it on the DNC, what was it?
Like the DNC platform?
They had that lady that was saying, you know, white people need to shut up and listen.
Now, that's the kind of discourse we're looking at for the future of this country.
So, I mean, that sounds kind of bad, but again, you have.
Well, I mean, that's what I find myself saying to a lot of white people.
After Steve has finished defrocking Jon Tron of his whiteness, he says that's what he finds himself saying.
That these white people need to shut up on the basis of their race.
That is an argument and worthy of examination, if only by virtue of how many racists hold it.
And I'm sorry, Steve, but I find that quite repugnant.
But it is an accurate title, and I didn't take it out of context.
And this is what you actually think, as far as I can tell.
And the last one is, Destiny implies Mexican immigrants run Silicon Valley.
Why are places like California that deal with more illegal that deal with more immigration than I think any other even individual country in the world aside from Russia?
So why is California the strongest economy in the United States when they have the most Mexican immigrants?
Shouldn't this make a shithole?
Because it's a if you're talking about Los Angeles or Silicon Valley.
Talking about the state of California.
Why is the state of California the sixth strongest economy in the world when they deal with more Mexican immigrants than any other state?
How is this possible?
Man, because all the industry is there?
I don't know.
What's your point?
Maybe the supply of labor has helped the state grow a little bit.
Well, I'm not going to lie, it really seemed to me that you were implying that Mexican immigrants were contributing their labor to Silicon Valley, which is one of the core pillars of the California economy.
And I'm sorry, I just think that's a really funny thing for anyone to say.
I mean, you did say that.
That's what you actually thought, isn't it?
I'm not saying that you think that there is no connection between Mexican immigrants and Californian productivity.
You think that there's a direct connection by what you're saying.
So, I mean, one look at these companies and you can see that these are not being staffed by Mexican immigrants.
So it's a rather amusing thing to say.
But that was your argument.
It's just false.
It really speaks to the worldview of someone who's just hugely optimistic, but not really very realistic.
And that's a nice thing.
It's nice to be optimistic, because sometimes reality sucks.
But I find it very interesting that Steve would compare this to PewDiePie.
He says, Sansi are the right-leaning YouTubers take 30-second quotes of mine and post them on their YouTubes after complaining that the same thing happened to PewDiePie.
Because apparently I'm providing inflammatory titles to videos to take 30-second snippets to make him look bad.
The thing is, Steve, I don't actually think these titles are particularly inflammatory.
I think they're actually directly descriptive of the things you say and believe.
And I think the fact that 30-second snippets is irrelevant because these seem to be your actual positions.
Now, at any point, you could just message me.
You could have DM'd me on Twitter and say, hey, man, look, I know that I said those things in the debate, but I was in a heated moment and I didn't really think it through and I didn't really mean it.
I'd like to retract it.
So I'd really appreciate it if you just take those clips down.
I mean, after all, I've taken the two down that you missed just because I can tell now that you want those other ones down.
Because these are not arguments that you stand by.
Because just because, to me, you come across like a totalitarian racist who lives in an ideological fairyland of denial, I'm happy to agree that that's not a very charitable interpretation.
And so maybe, just maybe I've interpreted you wrong.
And please feel free to clarify at any time.
Do you actually believe that there is nothing happening in Europe?
Something you stated and seem to genuinely believe?
Do you actually not know anything about communism?
Something directly implied by the fact that you seem to know nothing about communism and thought it was just an economic system.
Do you actually think that white people should be prevented from talking?
Which is exactly what that DNC lady was saying and exactly what you said in the heat of the debate.
But again, I'm all happy to believe that it was just a mistake you made and that we should retract it.
Just like I think we should extend to anyone.
What do you think?
And I think it's worth bearing in mind that this is actually nothing like what's happened with PewDiePie.
For a start, I didn't find a collection of things that you had said in jest and then reported them to the people who pay you in order to smear your character to get them to fire you.
I said exactly what you said and you appeared to be saying it in good faith and the context is not left out from the clips.
If I was actually trying to smear your name and just drag you through the mud with absolutely no respect for your integrity, I would have put up all of the clips that I took from that debate.
In particular, this one.
Nobody would ask Japan if it was okay that, you know, Japan become a minority Japanese nation.
But we're not Japan, and I don't care about Japan.
And also, Japan is one of the most racist fucking countries in the world.
Do you want to be like Japan?
This word racist, what does it mean?
It means that the Japanese people thought that they were the superior Asians and it was part of the reasons why they were so keen to do that shit they did during World War II.
Japanese viewed themselves as the superior Asian race and every other Asian is being subservient to them.
It doesn't get much more racist than Japan.
I want to try to draw a parallel to another homogenous society.
Japan is like the worst go-to argument.
It's also a dying country of people who, because they refuse to let anybody else in, are having horrible problems with their population.
Japan is a lot of like world record-setting suicide rates.
Like I don't think Japan is the country that you want to point to as your model homogenous society.
I probably could have given that a remarkably accurate name that would have been quite denigrating to your character.
So I didn't.
Because I'm sure that you didn't really mean that.
I'm sure that you really had a more nuanced perspective on Japan.
And it wasn't just that every Japanese person was a Japanese supremacist.
And you might say, well, okay, that may be technically correct, as in the best kind of correct, but that's an awfully pedantic way of saying, look how silly Steve Bonnell is to the people who follow you.
And I would say, yes.
I was being a total dick.
Isn't it shit when people do that?
Someone in the middle of a heated debate says things in a way they didn't really mean about a subject they're not particularly experienced with, and now the whole internet-wide is spinning a false narrative about them, saying things about them that are not true, and insulting and demeaning their character, impugning their honour, if you will, through a total lack of charity or even the right to reply.
But don't worry, Steve.
I said I would accept your attractions on these, and I will.
There's absolutely no animus or bad blood at all from me, and if you ever want to come and talk about things on stream, you are, of course, more than welcome, as we have done previously.
And I must say, your debating skills are absolutely top-notch.
You absolutely dominated through that debate, and you certainly painted John into many corners from which it was difficult to escape.
I'll even leave a link to a debate in which I had the same thing done to me from about three years ago now, where I basically had exactly the same experience as JonTron.
Was completely served.
Because, really, at the end of the day, these things happen to the best of us.
