Drexel University's White Christmas Genocide
| Copy link to current segment

Time Text
Meet George Sicarillo Ma, a professor at Drexel University, specifically an assistant professor in the Department of History and Politics.
On Christmas Eve, he decided to tweet out, All I want for Christmas is white genocide.
You might think that that is a highly inadvisable thing to do, especially if you're a professor at a respectable university, but also, especially, if you are in a highly politicized environment where there is rampant racism against white people and the general public is noticing it.
Now you might say, well, that's obviously a joke.
I mean, obviously he doesn't mean this.
And I might agree with you if I hadn't seen the rest of his Twitter feed, which has now been locked, but I will leave archive links in the description.
Tweets such as, to clarify, when the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a good thing indeed.
Personally, I appreciate that kind of clarification.
I really want to know whether someone thinks that white people being massacred is a good thing or not.
This is of course not quite clear enough though.
Is the professor simply a fan of white genocide, or is he a fan of genocides in general?
Hopefully we'll get to find out.
It'll come as a surprise to you, but this is not a new pattern of behaviour for this professor.
For example, in 2015 when he tweeted out, Abolish the white race, this statement appears to be in direct contradiction with other things that he has said, such as, white isn't a race.
So what exactly will we be abolishing or genociding?
And who was actually being massacred in the Haitian Revolution, and why was it a good thing if they weren't white?
It'll probably come as no surprise to you that the good professor is also a communist, and I know what you're going to say, no, this is just a meme, it's just a joke.
Except for when he says that he's an actual communist, and it doesn't appear to be a joke.
So when he says, make communism brutal again, you've got to think, well, he's a professor of history.
He's a communist, he must know what the communists have done, and he's advocating for communism to become brutal again.
Is this person actually joking?
As you can imagine, a communist professor publicly advocating for genocide was mildly controversial, and the ensuing internet firestorm caught the eye of mainstream right-wing publications such as Breitbart and the Daily Caller.
This tweet was published on Christmas Eve, and by Christmas Day, Drexel University had published a statement.
Drexel became aware today of Associate Professor George Sicarillo Ma's inflammatory tweet, which was posted on his personal account on December 24th, 2016.
While the university recognises the right of its faculty to freely express their thoughts and opinions in public debate, Professor Sicarillo-Ma's comments are utterly reprehensible, deeply disturbing, and do not in any way reflect the values of the university.
The university is taking this situation very seriously.
We contacted Sicarillo-Ma today to arrange a meeting to discuss the matter in detail.
I think this is a very apt and very respectable response from the university, and I applaud them for it.
But I have to say I am mildly concerned about this professor and the things that he is teaching his students.
So I don't think it's inappropriate to ask for some transparency on this meeting, if for no other reason, to reassure the public that this person is not actually some kind of maniac.
I want this meeting to be recorded, and I want Drexel University to release the recording, so I and everyone else can see the reasoning behind this professor's opinions.
I've created a petition that I will leave in the description if you also would like to sign it, which I personally will email to the university within the next few days.
The petition reads as follows: On December 24th, 2016, George Sicarillo Ma, an assistant professor in the Department of History and Politics, decided to tweet, All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide.
Sikorillo-Ma's tweet caused significant backlash that caused him to make his Twitter account private, and Drexel University released this statement on Christmas Day, calling his comments utterly reprehensible and deeply disturbing, claiming that they do not represent the values of the university.
Drexel University have contacted Sikarillo Ma to arrange a meeting to discuss his public statements in detail.
This apparent call for genocide, even if made sarcastically, is unbecoming of an academic and appears to be part of a wider pattern of racially motivated activism that has become a cause of serious concern for hundreds of thousands of people.
The signatories of this petition would like Drexel University's meeting with George Sicarillo Ma to be recorded and published to ensure that Drexel University is taking racism seriously and so that the public can see the professor's reasoning for his apparent distaste for white people.
Further examples can be seen in other tweets from George Sicarillo Ma, with the most heinous example being, to clarify, when the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a good thing indeed.
You might think this is a storm in a teacup, but this is a matter of the public interest, which is why Professor George Sicarillo-Ma's tweet has caused the term white genocide to trend on Twitter on Boxing Day in 2016.
Because there are many, many idiots on the internet who hear what they want to hear instead of hear what I'm actually saying, I'm going to print this in black and white on the screen for you.
This is a call for transparency.
This is not a call for the professor to be fired.
Given the highly politicized nature of the professor's statements and the current political environment we find ourselves in, I find Drexel University's attitude towards this professor highly commendable, and I wish to be a fly on the wall of this meeting.
And I think you should wish that too.
