Time Text
Hello everyone, welcome to this week in Stupid for the 3rd of March 2016.
As always, if you have anything you'd like to see in this week in Stupid, tweet using hashtag TWIS or post to our Sargon of a CAD.
So we'll begin this week with the Scottish police becoming rather more totalitarian than necessary.
The Twitter account of the Glasgow Police Department tweeted this image.
Think before you post.
T. Is it true?
H. Is it hurtful?
I. Is it illegal?
N. Is it necessary?
And K. Is it kind?
Along with, think before you post or you may receive a visit from us this weekend.
Use the internet safely.
Hashtag think before you post.
Dear Glaswegian police, you are not the moral arbiters of the internet.
There are laws and you are paid to enforce them.
You don't decide whether something is necessary.
You don't decide whether something is kind, and you certainly do not take action based on those criteria.
I mean, if I was to tweet something not only unnecessary and unkind, what is your unnecessary visit to me going to achieve?
Because it's going to look like police harassment of a citizen to someone like myself who knows that this person has done nothing wrong and therefore you should be shutting up and fucking off.
Breitbart published an article about this in which they raised some rather good points.
For example, a few weeks ago when Katie Hopkins joked, sending us Ebola bombs in the form of sweaty Glaswegians just isn't cricket.
Obviously a fucking joke.
But police in Scotland received complaints and thousands of people signed an online petition calling for action to be taken over the quote racist tweets.
However, a spokesman later declared an investigation has been carried out and on this occasion no criminality has been established.
That's because there wasn't any.
Why were we even investigating that tweet?
You're investigating tweets that you find that some people find offensive.
Is this really a good use of your time and resources?
I suppose the Scottish Police must think it is since they tweeted, please be aware that we will continue to monitor comments on social media and any offensive comments will be investigated.
God forbid someone acts in an offensive manner.
You don't get to punish people for offending others.
Offence is not illegal.
It's not hate speech, it's not harassment and it's not incitement.
It is simply someone saying, I didn't like that.
And you know what they can do?
They can use the fucking block button, can't they?
There's also the example given of a man from the tiny Isle of Boot in the Firth of Clyde, which has a population of 6,498, and that was expected to take in a thousand Syrian migrants.
Unsurprisingly, the locals aren't happy about this, but a police spokesman said that any harsh criticism of the Muslim influx would not be tolerated.
Quote, I hope that the arrest of this individual, a man who commented on this on social media, sends a clear message that the police Scotland will not tolerate any form of activity that could incite hatred and provoke offensive comments on social media.
Are you fucking serious?
These people cannot even speak about what is happening to them.
Because otherwise it could.
It could, it might!
There might be a case where hatred is incited or someone makes a fucking offensive comment.
I mean, are you fucking listening to yourselves?
Of course, this doesn't apply to the protected class in Breton, does it?
When an imam from a Glasgow mosque uses WhatsApp to show support for the psycho-Pakistani guy who murdered the politician for opposing blasphemy laws, just simply having that opinion, apparently when he calls him a true Muslim because of his actions, and the police in Scotland say, oh, no, no criminality has been established.
That's not an offensive comment.
That's not something that anyone needs to have a visit from the Scottish Mafia from or anything like that.
That's perfectly fucking fine.
That's treating them like everyone else.
All citizens being treated equally is exactly what the Scottish police are doing.
So say the Scottish fucking police.
I'm getting really fucking sick of the way that the British establishment, its institutions, its media, have gone out of their way to mitigate any references to Muslims or Islam or simply ignore the things they do that are clearly wrong.
And even when caught red-handed, convicted by the courts and sent to jail, the truth cannot be told for some reason.
For some reason, there has to be a propaganda campaign to try and cover up what these people are and where they've come from and what, more importantly, they believe.
Take this wonderful example from the Independent.
British man becomes first to be jailed for forcing wife to live like a slave.
I can't believe we must have just been okay with it until now because god damn this is such a characteristic of British men.
Safraz Ahmed, you know, a traditional British name, kept his wife isolated by locking her inside the house and humiliated her by forcing her to wash in the garden.
Totally British.
A man who treated his wife like a slave and subjected her to, quote, physical and mental torture has been jailed for only two years.
Which is, I mean, that's such a heavy sentence for someone who's keeping a slave.
But again, the whole article's painted as if they're native Britons, but of course, they're not.
They got married in 2006 in an arranged marriage in Pakistan.
She didn't even get to the UK until 2012.
Of course, this only came to light after he broke her nose while beating her, and she ran into the street fearing for her life, and the neighbours spotted her, and witnesses saw her being dragged back into the house.
And despite the police being called her lack of English meant that she was unable to lodge a formal complaint.
Fucking as if there isn't a severe miscarriage of fucking justice just on that alone.
You know, if we allow people to come to this country with no grasp of English, they can't call for help when it turns out they've brought their savage customs with them.
I know I'm sounding really harsh, but I'm really losing patience on this fucking issue.
I don't, I'm not a multiculturalist.
I don't give a fuck what their native culture is like.
Their native culture is fucking backwards.
If they want to come here and be like, oh, actually, I really like Britain.
You do things a really, really good way here, which clearly is something the Scottish police aren't fucking advertising very well, but if people say that, fine, I've got no problem.
But to come here and be like, yeah, you know what, I'm going to keep my wife as a sex slave.
I'm going to beat her.
And she can't even cry for help because she doesn't even speak any fucking English.
Maybe she should be forced to learn English for her own fucking good.
I mean, honestly, I'm just so, I'm so tired of hearing about this bullshit from Islam.
I really am.
You know, I'm really trying to maintain a reasonable perspective, but I'm so sick.
And then, Britain.
British man arrested.
Oh, fuck you.
Just fuck off.
Seriously, Islam is, it really is just a collection of terrible ideas.
And it's implemented by people who are insanely dogmatic.
I mean, look at this.
Iran is actually going to gouge out someone's eye because he caused another man to go blind during a fight.
This literal interpretation of Sharia law is literally something Hammurabi would be pleased about about 1800 BC.
This is the level of morality Islam is stuck in.
It is not even dark ages.
It is fucking Sumerian levels of fucking morality.
Last year, a man convicted of attacking another man with acid, which is unusual.
Normally these attacks are against women.
blinding and disfigure him for life in the city of Khoms, was sedated and had his left eye gouged out.
And I bet they all sat around going, well, pats on the back to everyone.
We've done a really good thing here.
This is exactly how things should be going.
You know, if some guy chucks acid in someone else's face, you gouge his eye out.
Makes you long for the days of the Persian Empire, doesn't it?
And the thing is, we're not even talking about terrorism.
We're not talking about, for example, the White House censoring the president of Holland for saying the words Islamist terrorism.
And I'm not kidding, this is what they actually did.
The official transcript is available on the White House webpage, which includes Holland's use of the term Islamist terrorism.
But there's also a video of it, where the interpreter has just silenced that portion of the video, the audio, translation, when he's speaking.
It's just a moment of silence, instead of him saying that.
And it's like, why?
Did you think the world is unaware that there's Islamist terrorism going on?
I mean, do you think the world is unaware that not all Muslims are Islamists?
You can just call them what they fucking are.
Surely you don't need to do any kind of defense for Islamist terrorists, right?
Oh no, actually you absolutely do, because the CIA have accidentally been fighting the Pentagon in Syria through the use of rebel militias.
Fucking brilliant.
The Pentagon has been backing the Syrian Democratic Forces, and from what I can find on them, they don't appear to be an Islamist group.
Of course, the CIA-backed Fursan al-Haq, or Knights of Justice, are absolutely an Islamist group, and they're allied with people like the Islamic Front, who are, and again, they're just separate, discrete entities who are all fighting for the same cause, to be the sole Islamist power in the Middle East.
Just to give you a quick example, the Wikipedia page says that they suspended their cooperation with al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra on the 21st of July 2014.
Oh, thank goodness.
They've really gone straight and reformed, I'm sure.
According to the LA Times, the Pentagon's actions are part of a deliberate effort by the US and its allies to defeat the Islamic State.
And I completely believe it.
And we know that this isn't like the entire motivation, because Clinton's recently leaked emails show that she was interested in the prospect of sectarian civil war within Syria for the purposes of regional destabilization in the aims of bolstering Israeli security while providing the West with greater leverage in negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
Because this is the sort of thing Hillary Clinton does.
But we'll talk about Hillary Clinton in a minute.
The CIA-backed militia is part of a separate covert US operation aimed at keeping the pressure on the Assad government in hopes of forcing the Syrian leader to the negotiating table.
At first, the two sets of fighters were operating in different areas of Syria.
Over the last few months, however, airstrikes against anti-Assad fighters in northwestern Syria by Russia have weakened them.
This created an opening which allowed Kurdish-led groups to expand their zone of control outside the Kurdish Aleppo, bringing the Pentagon's men into conflict with the CIA-backed outfits.
What a fucking clusterfuck.
Now, from what I know, I would suggest that the West back someone who isn't mental.
I think the Kurds so far are a good choice.
Again, I'm not an expert, but I've heard less bad things about the Kurds than anyone else.
However, the CIA are backing Islamists, so we should stop backing them, because they are the problem.
And I think it's definitely worth taking the time to point out that not all Muslims are Islamists.
I mean, 70,000 Indian Muslim clerics issued a fatwa against ISIS, the Taliban, al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups back in December last year.
So I don't want people to think that I'm saying it's all Muslims.
And I would certainly like to take the time to thank the Syrian army for retaking Palmyra, an ancient city that was an oasis trade hub that had its own empire at one point in the third century and was otherwise part of the Persians or the Romans.
And a beautiful, beautiful place that one day I would like to visit.
I would dream of going there.
Except ISIS got there first and blew up the main temple.
So well done to the Syrian army and their militia allies for regaining complete control of the city.
A spokesman for the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the victory is the biggest defeat for the group since it declared the caliphate.
ISIS had apparently lost 400 fighters after the three-week intensive campaign by Assad forces supported by Russian airstrikes.
I often see Islamism being described as an ultra-orthodox or ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam.
And so when I see articles that tell me about how ISIS were running a female sex slave market out of Palmyra, I'm thinking, okay, so, I mean, we're all agreed that the fundamentalist, conservative interpretation of Islam is the real problem we're facing.
Because, I mean, a thing like a mass grave full of the bodies of 40 women and children were found after ISIS were driven out, and the retreating militants leaving thousands of mines in Palmyra to foil and slow down the Syrian army in its advance.
These are really bad things.
These are terrible, terrible, terrible tragedies, probably war crimes.
But they are not unique to Islamic armies.
These things happen in almost every army in all through history, all over the world.
These are normal consequences of war.
They're terrible, but they are normal.
They're not unusual.
Okay, maybe the beheading them bit is a bit odd, but women and children die in warfare.
That's something that happens.
It is an ugly reality.
Setting up a female-only sex slave trade is not normal.
Most don't do that.
They don't have slave markets for women.
This is where Islam differs from other ideologies.
And the thing is, we know from the Pew data that there are millions of Muslims who believe in a conservative literal interpretation of the Quran.
I mean, even Tony Blair is aware that millions of Muslims hold views that are fundamentally incompatible with Western values.
And at this point, I do actually agree with Tony Blair, which is something I didn't really ever think I'd say.
But he says that he rejects arguments that ISIS is simply tens of thousands of brainwashed crazies and says, ISIS does not seek a dialogue but dominance.
It cannot therefore be contained.
It has to be defeated.
And I think he's right when he calls for active on-the-ground military support for Arab armies, stating that ISIS has to be crushed.
I agree.
And he's also not wrong when he says that the West help set the stage for ISIS to flourish.
And it's important to make clear that we are not saying that the reason they enslave women and trade them as chattel is the responsibility of the West.
Or any of the other barbaric things they're doing in the name of Islam are done through their literal interpretation of the Quran and the Hadiths.
The only reason jihadists and Islamists are able to do these things is because the political stage has been set, has been cleared, and there is a power vacuum in the Middle East that they are filling.
In 2014, a senior ISIS commander told The Guardian that the Camp Buka detention facility operated by the US-led coalition during the Iraq War was directly responsible for the rise of the theocratic state.
It made it all.
It built our ideology.
We could never have got all together like this in Baghdad or anywhere else.
Again, it is not the West that is the impetus for all of this.
It is just mistakes made by the West that is allowing this and helping this to flourish and propagate.
This is what happened in Libya, where recently in March, the new ISIS leader said that their group grows stronger every day.
ISIS has taken advantage of the political chaos and security vacuum following the 2011 uprising that toppled Gaddafi to establish a presence in several cities.
Western officials have expressed alarm over the expansion and estimates the number of its fighters to be as high as 6,000.
Libya is actually, believe it or not, providing more resistance to ISIS than most places probably would due to the fact that it's a fucking failed state and that there are loads of different factions with different disputes who are pushing back against the Islamist militants of ISIS.
But we're seeing the pattern repeat.
We go in, we topple a government, and then radical Islamists take over.
So really what I'm saying is that we need to be a lot smarter in what we do in the Middle East.
I mean, just overthrowing leaders is not a good thing, because we never have anything to replace it with, and the thing that replaces it is inevitably worse than what we are replacing.
And then you get retards who are like, don't tell me to get over colonialism that's still being implemented today.
Oh god, go on then regressives.
What have you got?
Broadcaster Carl Sandilan says, get over it, it's 200 years ago, but it's everything that happened since that is the real problem.
Okay, so you're saying that colonialism wasn't the real problem.
It's things after colonialism.
So what you're saying is going back to colonialism would be a better option.
I mean, you know, this isn't talking about the Middle East.
This is just talking about colonialism in general.
But it's a strange statement to make, and the rest of the article is insanely rambly, and I can't be bothered to read it.
Because, frankly, they've...
Well, they've kind of refuted themselves in the first line.
But you've really got to love The Guardian, because they will print fucking anything.
Aside from Jessica Valenti, this may shock you.
Hillary Clinton is fundamentally honest.
Well, I'm speechless.
I don't think anyone was going to make that argument.
For decades, she's been portrayed as a Lady Macbeth involved in nefarious plots, branded a congenital liar and accused of covering up her husband's misconduct from Arkansas to Lewinsky.
Some of this is sexist caricature.
Some are stoked by the Hillary is a liar videos that flood Facebook feeds.
Not there's any validity to them.
No, no, no.
I'm not going to assume that's true.
We're going to assume it's not true, even though everyone can see Hillary lying constantly.
Some of it she brings on herself by insisting on a perimeter zone of privacy that she protects too fiercely.
It's a natural impulse, given the level of scrutiny she's attracted more than any male politician I can think of.
Yes, it's a gender issue.
It's not that Hillary Clinton literally go through the WikiLeaks leaks.
Read through her fucking emails.
It's not just that she's a liar, it's that she is a Machiavellian schemer.
She is not out to help you.
That she is a woman is completely coincidental to the fact that she is malevolent.
Literally scheming to start civil wars in Syria and refusing Gaddafi's son's attempts to make Libya a democracy because she thought it would be better for Israel if it collapsed and Syria.
I mean that's great.
That's great Hillary, but it's also fucking horrible.
Hillary is a powerful person.
It's her machinations and people like her that are assisting the rise of ISIS.
I don't even know whether she knows she's doing it.
She must know.
She's incredibly well informed.
Seriously, read her emails.
She is incredibly well informed.
She knows what's going on.
And I think she's choosing to deliberately do these things.
And I don't think she cares about the rise of ISIS.
Probably because of how well protected she is.
I'll leave links to further reading in the description if you'd like to find out exactly what sort of thing she's been getting up to.
Because it's just...
it's just heartless.
It's just completely, completely heartless.
It's taking no consideration of the people who are actually going to have their lives ruined by what Hillary Clinton is trying to do for Israel.
But according to The Guardian, Hillary Clinton is fundamentally honest and trustworthy.
I can't believe anyone would write that down with a straight face.
How can anyone expect anyone else to believe that Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy?
I suppose if she was going to come out and say, yeah, well, I'm trying to destabilise the Middle East and you can trust me to do it, then yeah, maybe she is, but she doesn't say that.
All she does is lie constantly.
Whether or not she'll be indicted, I have no idea.
I'm no expert on the American political system.
However, there was a post on Our Politics that went into a lot of detail with a lot of sources and came to the conclusion that she had broken laws and she could be indicted.
Now, again, I don't know whether this is true, I'm just passing on this information, but I honestly suspect that she is too deeply embedded in the political system for this to occur.
And interestingly, even if she is indicted, she can actually still run for the US presidency.
So let's finish up this week with some regressive bullshit, because why not?
How about a mysterious Donald Trump tombstone pops up in Central Park?
I mean, if that was anyone else, for example, say Hillary Clinton, the regressives would be freaking the fuck out, and this would be the biggest deal you've ever heard.
But no, it happens to Donald Trump, so nobody cares.
What about a California college student who claims that a pro-Trump message is an act of violence?
This is just the most perfect thing I've ever heard in my life.
A California college student who claimed to have found a pro-Donald Trump message scrawled on a whiteboard outside of her dorm room last week was so shaken that somebody nearby might support the GOP frontrunner that she alerted campus police, according to a report.
This morning, a Mexican-American script student woke up to find her whiteboard vandalized with the phrase Trump 2016.
Although the message was not derogatory, Kim claimed the unidentified student perceived it as such because of her ethnicity.
It was a message on a whiteboard.
How do you know it was to you?
And she had alerted the campus police to the racist violence of the message.
I'm speechless.
I just don't know what to say.
I mean, why would this, why wouldn't this just be like that writing on a blackboard isn't violence?
And saying Trump 2016 isn't racist.
So go away.
Just shoot, toddle on.
You know, but I mean, since that didn't happen, I'm just going to presume that everyone died.
Everyone involved has died.
This is clearly terrible racist violence.
And as far as I'm aware, nobody survived it.
This racist act is completely unacceptable.
Regardless of your political party, this intentional violence committed directly to a student of color proves to be another testament that racism continues to be an undeniable problem and alarming threat on our campuses.
Fucking hell, just, can you even imagine living in a country like this?
Well, if you live in Britain, you fucking can, because you do.
The cancer has spread here.
University student is ordered not to put her hand up to ask a question because she would be violating her classmates' safe space.
She was also warned for shaking her head during the meeting, as it breached the safe space, which is part of the University Student Association rules.
She told the Huffington Post, I raised my arms in disagreement, as we contacted the writers of the letter and tried hard to organise a meeting.
It was for that reason that a safe space complaint was made.
You know, I was going to make a joke that these people probably wear adult nappies, and then I remembered they're feminists.
Of course they have something like that.
Like new period panties that let you bleed right onto the faces of politicians who don't support women's health.
I mean, this is, this is literally what they look like.
This is literally a fucking nappy for adult women so they can passively, aggressively flow over a politician's likeness.
Who gives a fuck?
I mean, this is so childish and pathetic and just exactly what I expect from modern feminism.
And finally, Justin Trudeau is planning on posing new for a game magazine's body image campaign.
Anyone surprised?
Don't worry, this is actually an April Fool's Day prank.
