Sargon of Akkad - Carl Benjamin - Total War: Warhammer Leaked Aired: 2015-01-14 Duration: 02:36 === Why Total War Matters (02:36) === [00:00:00] So you might not remember that two years ago Creative Assembly partnered with Games Workshop so that they could use the license to create a Warhammer Total War game. [00:00:08] And given that this was announced two years ago, they say things like, this first Warhammer game joins the eagerly awaited Total War Rome 2. [00:00:15] And if you've been living under a rock for the past two years, Rome 2 was regarded as a complete fucking failure by every Total War fan I have ever met. [00:00:25] Why? [00:00:26] Well, simple. [00:00:27] They tried to quote unquote streamline the game to attract a wider audience. [00:00:34] And the debacle that was Rome 2 puts us in full context for Total War Warhammer. [00:00:41] I won't stress that this was an accidental leak, so we don't really have any further information as of yet. [00:00:47] And we've known this has been coming for a while. [00:00:49] But after Rome 2, I just really, really want Creative Assembly to sit back and think for a minute. [00:00:58] Do you need to try and attract a large audience? [00:01:03] Do you need to do anything other than produce a good total war game? [00:01:11] Don't listen to the corporate moneymen who are sitting there saying, well, if we do this, then we have a chance of attracting this demographic and that demographic. [00:01:20] This particular thing is hip with teenage boys between 12 and 18, and this appeals to teenage girls between 15 and 17. [00:01:29] None of that shit matters. [00:01:31] Please, Creative Assembly, I beg you. [00:01:35] Don't look at numbers, don't look at demographics, don't look at statistics. [00:01:41] Look at the gamers. [00:01:43] Look at what makes them play your games. [00:01:46] Give them what they want. [00:01:48] Make a good Total War Warhammer. [00:01:51] You don't know how many people who play Total War have been dreaming for a Warhammer Total War. [00:01:58] You just have no idea. [00:02:00] Don't worry about trying to be popular. [00:02:02] Worry about trying to be good. [00:02:05] The memory of Rome 2 is so fresh in people's minds and everyone is still so pissed off about it. [00:02:12] People play Total War games because of the scale, the depth, the complexity and the strategies. [00:02:20] They didn't play it because it was streamlined. [00:02:22] They didn't play it because it had mass appeal. [00:02:25] They played them because they were fucking good. [00:02:28] Go back to making them fucking good and don't worry about the sales. [00:02:33] You are making Total War Warhammer.
