| I would characterize along with the president, I think it was productive. | ||
| Yeah, so let's start with that call. | ||
| I understand that you initiated it. | ||
| Is that correct? | ||
| We asked for it a while back, and this was the time it finally they came through. | ||
| I got an early morning call from the president's chief of staff, who we have been communicating with regularly several times a day, myself or my team speaking with Susie Wiles. | ||
| And she said the president wants to speak with you, and they called back in to us, and we spoke for about 10 minutes, 10, 15 minutes. | ||
| Did the president make any firm commitments that the course of this immigration operation will change? | ||
| Well, I asked two things. | ||
| We're clear. | ||
| First of all, I asked that we have a fair and independent investigation into the murder of both Renee Goode and Alex, and that we have to be able to do that. | ||
| And he said, we'll look at that. | ||
| We'll take a look at that. | ||
| And I said, we just have to reduce these numbers. | ||
| We started out with that, and he pledged that, look, I'm going to send Tom Holman in. | ||
| We'll do things differently. | ||
| He explained to me how he thought it was very successful in Louisiana, very successful in Louisville, which I shared with him, but ICE did not shoot anybody there, and the presence was much smaller and much more targeted. | ||
| Like they were doing actual ICE work. | ||
| This is, as we've seen, massive, massive numbers. | ||
| So it was cordial. | ||
| I think he understood this. | ||
| I told him that this is unsustainable, and I said, quite honestly, you know, no one wants this. | ||
| And I hope that's true. | ||
| No one wants this. | ||
| What about the investigation? | ||
| I mean, you asked for him to allow state investigators into the fold regarding the deaths of Alex Predty and Renee Macklin Good. | ||
| What precisely did he say in this? | ||
| He said he would look into it. | ||
| And he said, look into it. | ||
| I hear you. | ||
| We'll look into it. | ||
| And what if that doesn't happen? | ||
| Well, then we'll keep pushing. | ||
| I mean, look, this is, and I want to be very careful here. | ||
| I don't want to. | ||
| And one of the reasons that I am staying a little behind the scenes and working constantly on those calls is that part of this is about how you're viewed by this White House. | ||
| I think listeners here in Minnesota know that I'm somewhat of a lightning rod for this administration. | ||
| I certainly don't want to be that, but I've had to be speaking up about the atrocities that we're seeing and pushing back. | ||
| So at this point in time, the president certainly seemed earnest. | ||
| He pledged to me that we would do this. | ||
| As I said, we've been in communication over the weekend with his team pretty extensively. | ||
| I'm understanding now that, and he said he would have Tom Holman in here and we'll be in touch, I hope, later tonight. | ||
| I'm understanding that Mr. Bovino and Christy Noam are no longer going to be here. | ||
| I would take that a step further. | ||
| I would hope they're no longer in jobs because they've helped foster this. | ||
| And we spoke a little bit and I tried to make the case about Alex. | ||
| I just spent a sat-down hour with his colleagues. | ||
| Donald Trump and the Trump administration bend and then break under pressure that it turns out they cannot handle. | ||
| They underestimated the people of Minnesota and the strength of feeling in this country right now in support of the people of Minneapolis. | ||
| Tonight, the Trump administration is pulling Border Patrol official Greg Bovino and some number of Border Patrol agents out of Minneapolis. | ||
| We do not know if this is the end of what they've been calling Operation Metro Surge, this sustained, very large-scale paramilitary attack on the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. | ||
| We don't know if it is the end of that operation full stop, but we know it's the end of something. | ||
| Our latest reporting here at MS Now per our reporters Carol Lenig and Mark Santilla is this, quote, according to two officials briefed on the matter, Gregory Bovino is expected to be removed from commanding the operation in Minnesota possibly as early as tomorrow, meaning Tuesday. | ||
| There will also be a reduction of Homeland Security officers and agents in the state. | ||
| The mayor of Minneapolis says he spoke to Donald Trump and that the president believes the situation in Minnesota cannot continue. | ||
| In a statement, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry said in part, quote, I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. | ||
| Fry added, some federal agents will begin leaving the area tomorrow, and I will continue pushing for the rest involved in this operation to go. | ||
| The mayor said he plans to meet with Border Czar Tom Holman tomorrow to further discuss next steps. | ||
| Core part of democratic action, small D democratic action. | ||
| And the unromantic, strong, simple truth of the matter is that in our country right now, every small D Democratic muscle that we have is flexing. | ||
| And it turns out that that's way stronger than Donald Trump and way stronger than the worst designs of the Trump administration. | ||
| United, persistent, earnest, creative, peaceful protests that have not relented for a minute in Minneapolis. | ||
| Everybody from clergy to professional sports teams to unions to school parent groups to school kids themselves to indivisible groups to Native American activists to people who had never previously protested a single thing in their lives. | ||
| I mean, every day, nevertheless, protesting, demonstrating, telling Trump's agents to get out, never giving them a moment's peace. | ||
| Spontaneous, instinctual, and then ultimately organized mutual aid, community support, alerting people to the presence of federal agents, walking people's kids to and from school, dropping off groceries to families too afraid for good reason to get out of their house, doing know-your-rights trainings everywhere, responding in person when people are being attacked or taken, | ||
| not being afraid when Trump's masked agents turn those very things into life-threatening confrontations, or being afraid, but still doing it anyway. | ||

| Quote, Greg Brovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol Commander at large and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a Homeland Security official and two people with knowledge of the change. | ||
| Bovino's sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Predi by Border Patrol agents under Bovino's command. | ||
| Nick Miroff reports: Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noam and her close advisor, Corey Lewandowski, who were Bovino's biggest backers at Homeland Security, are now also at risk of losing their jobs. | ||

| The people of this country on the other side, the opponents of that overthrow, the population of this country that is committed to, you know, no kings and they're never being a dictator here. | ||
| They know that the way they're going to win is not with guns. | ||
| It's not in a war. | ||
| The people on the other side of this fight, they know the way they're going to save American democracy is by using American democratic means to do so. | ||
| And that means protest and speech and political power. | ||
| Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, not Greg Bovino's immigration crackdown. | ||
| And I think it's very important just to be clear about that. | ||
| It was Donald Trump who put a post on social media saying that Minnesota's day of reckoning and retribution was coming. | ||
| It was Donald Trump who ordered his Justice Department to initiate in criminal investigations of the mayor of Minneapolis and the governor of Minnesota for the crime of incitement when they're giving press conferences saying, please people, be peaceful. | ||
| We must protest this and be peaceful. | ||
| I would also point out that it's not an issue of immigration enforcement that has caused so many of the good people of Minneapolis to rise up against Donald Trump and what's happening in their city. | ||
| They have gone after the basic rights of American citizens to protest. | ||
| And I'm just haunted, as I'm sure you are, Steph, by the horrible video of Alex Predi's last moments. | ||
| Remember that he was going to the defense of a woman who was having the crowd beat out of her by one of these goons. | ||
| This wasn't immigration enforcement. | ||
| This was a mass federal agent attacking a woman who was exercising her First Amendment rights. | ||
| And so it's a perversion and really an insult to people to call it immigration enforcement that's being protested in any way when what they're protesting is the lawless riot, essentially, of massed federal agents that have been unloosed by Donald Trump on the city of Minneapolis. | ||
| Clearly, President Trump and the Trump administration are in retreat on what had been a violent occupation, I think it's fair to say, of a major American city that they essentially hoped to be the front page news headline that everybody remembered about the Trump administration at this time at the start of Trump's second year in his second term in office. | ||
| They went big with this on their own terms. | ||
| Nobody asked for this. | ||
| Nobody put them up to it. | ||
| They decided to launch this in order to show off what they could do. | ||
| And now they are in full retreat with it being viewed both as a practical debacle and a moral debacle. | ||
| And they are paying a considerable political price for it. | ||
| If you were one of millions of Americans who protested ICE out of Minneapolis, you should know tonight you are winning this thing. | ||
| And it's worth understanding the power of what you have done. | ||
| This is the primal scream of a dying regime. | ||
| Pray for our enemies because we're going medieval on these people. | ||
| You're going to not get a free shot on all these networks lying about the people. | ||

| And the DOJ walked away from this Don Lemon decision, right? | ||
| So, I mean, They just learned that they could get away with it and they're going to do it again. | ||
| And what they're learning in Minneapolis, which is ground zero again, because remember, this is two blocks from where that woman was killed. | ||
| You know, that was George Floyd in the summer of 2020. | ||
| And we saw what happened in the summer of 2020 with no action, with no real consequences. | ||
| You know, $30 billion, multiple police officers, I think, you know, were killed and wounded during that period of time. | ||
| Now we have the consequences again of some of the things that we're facing. | ||
| And I think the American people are just tired of it. | ||
| See, they're getting to a point now where it's like, okay. | ||

| Are we going to worry about what's going on in our country and start to deal with this? | ||

| So I think that what the president needs to do is he needs to kind of do a little bit of some net fishing for the right people, bring some people in and say, okay, you guys are the ones that are out there on the streets. | ||
| Tell me what I am missing. | ||
| Because he's not being told what the reality of the situation is. | ||
| He's not, because he's not acting. | ||
| He's not making decisions that I can see that are in the best interests of the safety and security of the American people as it relates to this situation right now. | ||
| And I think he's hesitant. | ||
| I actually think that he's hesitant. | ||
| So that's what my ask is to him. | ||
| But for the audience and for the people of this country, this is a revolution that we are involved in. | ||
