| And Donald Trump, bringing Donald Trump to account to actually prove the underlying case that he claimed was true would be a real service to the country. | ||
| Kevin McCarthy, they're making his most direct impeachment threat yet against President Biden. | ||
| McCarthy's comments follow a series of congressional investigations in the Republican-led House that have targeted President Biden, his administration, and of course his son, Hunter. | ||
| And they come as the speaker faces increasing pressure by hardline conservatives in his conference. | ||
| And former President Trump to take further action. | ||
| NBC's Sahil Kapoor is joining us on Capitol Hill now. | ||
| Sahil, McCarthy seems to be changing his tune a bit. | ||
| Last month he was trying to halt a floor vote on impeachment of the president. | ||
| So what's different now? | ||

| Well, House Republicans are certainly trending toward an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. | ||
| That's how it sounds from Speaker McCarthy's latest comments. | ||
| And this fits a familiar pattern. | ||
| McCarthy gets pressure from his hardline conservatives on his right. | ||
| He initially resists, then the pressure builds, and he ultimately gives in. | ||
| We saw this play out on a number of legislative battles. | ||
| We saw it in the speaker's race, which is how he got the job in the first place. | ||
| Now, it's important to know McCarthy is not making an official announcement as to what's going to happen. | ||
| And he talked about an inquiry as simply gathering facts, gathering information before they make any decision about whether to proceed beyond that. | ||
| Let's have a listen to what McCarthy told reporters earlier today. | ||
| It's not impeachment. | ||

| It's not hard to decipher here where the ultra-conservative wing of the party sees this going. | ||
| But impeached for what? | ||
| The investigations that House Republicans have been conducting are at the heart of this, and they largely focus on the president's son, Hunter Biden. | ||
| They heard from IRS whistleblowers who made insinuations that there was improper activity. | ||
| They talk about payments with foreign companies that Hunter Biden has been entangled in. | ||
| Nobody has provided evidence that the president was directly involved and acted improperly as part of all of this, but that's part of where House Republicans seem to be digging further. | ||
| DNC Chair Jamie Harrison says this is really about doing Donald Trump's bidding, as of course Trump is in the middle of his own legal firestorm right now. | ||
| And this is what he says, quote, it's clear Donald Trump is the real speaker of the House. | ||
| He has made sure the House majority is little more than an arm of his 2024 campaign. | ||
| Sahil, is that what's going on here? | ||
| That is certainly how Democrats see it. | ||
| We're hearing a lot more of that argument. | ||
| But I will say, Ana, just as a factual matter, it's not in doubt that House Republicans have used significant amounts of power, you know, in defense of Trump, largely avenging what they perceive as, you know, a slight against him. | ||
| They've thrown some of his most prominent Democratic critics off the Intelligence Committee. | ||
| You know, they have investigated law enforcement entities, state and federal, targeted those law enforcement entities. | ||

| The Whitmer Fednapping hoax, for example. | ||
| You can press him and grill him about using his counter-terrorism unit to hunt down trespassers from January 6th. | ||
| I mean, impeaching someone like Christopher Wray gives, to your point, public accountability and exposure to all of these scandals and crisis through the conduit Which is the FBI. | ||
| Also, of course, the misinformation, you know, working with the FBI and big tech to suppress not just the Hunter Biden laptop information, but also COVID information, vaccines, et cetera. | ||
| I mean, the FBI is the rot of our system. | ||
| And that's why I think in my mind, not just giving Joe Biden a pass, Well, she speaks with wisdom here. | ||
| which is Christopher Wray and this FBI, then you can tackle all of these issues in one shot. | ||

| I would really like to get to the bottom of Chris Wray and Merrick Garland. | ||
| I think in terms of the assault on the country right now and the real threat from this civil war that I worry about, a lot of that's coming from what is just an in-your-face dual system of injustice. | ||
| But I agree with you, Steve, that the purpose Of the impeachment is to get all of this on the record. | ||
| And, and Julie, I don't think we can worry about second and third order effects about whether maybe it takes him out and we have a Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama. | ||

| So I posted video last night, new surveillance video, which shows once again why the regime does not want the surveillance video released, showing Officer Ganell, who has claimed for two and a half years that he suffered serious, egregious, almost life-threatening injuries on January 6th. | ||

| He's near the body of Roseanne Boyland, a victim that Steve, you and I have talked about before. | ||
| And he's there walking around for seven minutes, not one indication of any severe injury to his foot, to his shoulder, to his hands, to his head, which is what he not only told the January 6th committee, and he's not only said on social media and in news reports, he is testifying in January 6th trials and giving victim impact statements as a police officer, trying to get a judge to give additional prison time to January 6th defendants based on his injuries. | ||

| And she appointed a special master and she did so for multiple reasons, but two of them, Because she confronted DOJ and Jay Bratt, the counterintelligence chief at the time, who now has been assigned to Jack Smith's team, and she confronted him, one, about leaks coming out of the investigation to the media, and two, the mishandling of privileged material between the filter team and the investigative team. | ||

| This is literally what he said, his thumb still hurt. | ||
| I think he went back to partial work, like kind of giving tours. | ||
| And then December of 2022, one month after Republicans won the House and promised to conduct numerous investigations, including January 6th, Officer Ganell announced his retirement. | ||
| My suspicion is that it's also a medical-based retirement. | ||
| So I am looking into that, working with people on the Hill, trying to find those records. | ||
| Because if he did, that is far bigger scandal than just lying. | ||
| to Congress or lying on social media about foot surgery that he allegedly had. | ||
