| Well, thanks, Steve. Hello to Sergio. | ||
| Congratulations to Sergio on putting together this amazing book. | ||
| I'm just honored to be in the book. | ||
| I wrote President Trump a letter on New Year's Eve. | ||
| And I think on New Year's Eve, we all feel a little nostalgic about what's happening in the world. | ||
| We're hopeful. We're looking forward. | ||
| And that's what I did is I wrote a letter to him saying, I want to encourage you. | ||
| You have done great things for our country. | ||
| I know there's much more to do. | ||
| And the purpose of my letter was just to encourage him that there are millions of people, everyday people, who recognize what he did as president and what he's going through now. | ||
| And so this was my heartfelt way to say to him, keep going because we need you, Mr. | ||
| President. And the letter made it into the book. | ||
| I'm extremely honored. | ||
| And it is something that I think everybody should get because you see the perspective of all these people who know Donald Trump. | ||
| I've gotten to know President Trump and he's a really kind person and he's a really funny person and I think that comes through in the book. | ||
| Absolutely. No, I think with the powers of the book you see Graciousness, class, the respect people have for him, the respect he has for people. | ||
| We're going to get into some of the stories hopefully a little bit later about things he's done for people that have never made headlines. | ||
| That's what the book is a very, because when we talk about the great and the good of the late 20th century, early 21st century, you're even seeing a different side of them. | ||

Absolutely. I mean, there's a lot of individuals that love him. | |
| All of a sudden he announced that he's standing up for America first and these people forgot about him. | ||
| There's incredible letters from Oprah and Oprah's telling him, imagine if you and I ran for office together. | ||
| And his commentary, it's just incredible. | ||
| No one's seen his thoughts on a lot of these people. | ||
| And Ambassador Grinnell, of course, is a dear friend of all of ours. | ||
| But his letter, the president picked every one of these letters. | ||
| So the president of the thousands that were tens of thousands, he curated. | ||
| Correct. There's about 200 in this. | ||

| But the ambassador's letter was just incredible. | ||
| I just want to read a sentence from it. | ||
| He talks about where the United States was under Trump and where we're going. | ||
| And I quote, The economy has tanked, Americans are paying incredible gas and food prices, the borders wide open, and our friends and allies are longing for your leadership again. | ||
| We've gone from world peace to war in a very short period of time. | ||
| And we just thought the president thought that was an incredible summary in a simple letter. | ||
| So he was thrilled that the ambassador sent this letter in. | ||
| Ambassador, you represented us in Germany and now, you know, in the middle of another European war. | ||
| What was it like, you know, when you wrote that letter and thinking back, you had been, I think, at the State Department before, then obviously at DNI, but when you were ambassador to Germany and representing the country and working directly for President Trump and he selected you specifically to be in Germany, thinking about what's happening now versus then, can you give us your thoughts? | ||
| Well, it was an incredible honor because I worked for a visionary. | ||
| President Trump is a total visionary and what he envisioned for Europe was a Europe without a Russian pipeline. | ||
| He recognized that this Russian pipeline was a pipeline of influence and an influence over Western allies in Europe. | ||
| At the same time, we had the largest economy in all of Europe, the German economy, literally not paying their NATO bills. | ||
| So when President Trump looked at Chancellor Merkel, and by the way, he was incredibly nice, but he was incredibly direct. | ||
| And when he said to Chancellor Merkel, you're feeding the beast. | ||
| You're a member of this club that's supposed to be NATO stopping Russia, but you're giving Russia more money. | ||
| And so he stood up for the American people by doing that. | ||
| And what I always say is the opposite of America first is consensus with the Europeans. | ||
| And when Merkel came to Joe Biden and said, you know, Donald Trump had these sanctions on the Russian pipeline into Germany and we would like you to drop these sanctions, Joe Biden and the Senate Democrats did that. | ||
| And I tell everybody, listen to the floor speeches from Senate Democrats talking about why they should drop sanctions on the Russian pipeline. | ||
| They caused this war in Ukraine. | ||
| That is not an overstatement. | ||
| The weakness that they presented to Vladimir Putin, I could see Putin say, you know, let me go back in and finish the job that I started under Obama-Biden. | ||
| Now that Biden is there, I'm going to go back into Crimea and Chancellor Merkel, you know, She didn't say much about the grabbing of Crimea, the rewriting of borders within Europe, which is their mantra now. | ||
| So working for a visionary like Donald Trump was an incredible honor. | ||
| It's not always popular in the moment. | ||
| And that's the one thing that I love about President Trump. | ||
| He's not looking to be popular. | ||
| He's looking to do what's right for America to keep America safe. | ||
| Absolutely. What I love about the book is that you've got letters, and we'll talk about that when President Trump gets in, there are letters of political officials and leaders coming to him where he's been against these overextended wars for decades. | ||
| And you can see with Ambassador Grinnell and kind of the marching orders he gave us in the first couple of years of the administration, let's have NATO start to pay for itself. | ||
| We want allies. We don't want a vassal state. | ||
| We don't want a protectorate. | ||
| But there are letters in here with Nixon and others. | ||
| that talk about his thoughts of this for the last four decades. | ||

And the letter that you're referring to is Nixon, where the President writes back to Nixon, President Trump writes back to Nixon, and he says, the best thing you did for us is get us out of Vietnam. | |
| And so this is not a recent thing that President Trump wants America first and doesn't want us involved in all these endless wars. | ||
| Right. It goes back many decades. | ||
| Right. You see the philosophy. | ||
| Rick, Ambassador, tell me, when you found out that you had been selected in the curation process, that this very personal letter that you sent the President was going to be in there, tell me, what were your first thoughts and feelings? | ||
| I mean, look, I'm just a kid from Michigan. | ||
| And when Sergio told me that my letter was selected, it was incredibly humbling. | ||
| And I thought, why me? You know, first of all, this president, President Trump, has given me so much to stand at the president of Germany's office in this glorious, beautiful palace and to take the oath of office as the representative of the United States to walk out and hear the national anthem playing as you're standing in Berlin, which has got all of this history with America. | ||
| I am so grateful that President Trump believed in me. | ||
| I worked every single day for him. | ||
| I will always work for him because when he believed in me, somebody who was just a simple American, it motivated me to say, you know what, I'm not going to let them down. | ||
| I'm not going to let the American people down. | ||
| And I'm not going to look to be popular. | ||
| I'm going to look to keep the American people safe. | ||
| So to be selected like this in a letter with all of these others, it's just a humbling experience and I'm incredibly grateful. | ||

And in a way, it's a historical book. | |
| If you think about it, people today who go to universities or school, they read books from presidents 50 years ago, right? | ||
| 100 years ago. This is an incredible book because his commentary on everybody is in there. | ||

| I think your first publication was the photography book. | ||

We had an incredible book called Our Journey Together. | |
| It sold out instantly. | ||
| We ran out of paper. Of course, under Biden, you run out of everything. | ||
| So in the United States, we ran out of paper. | ||
| Who would have guessed that we don't have enough paper to print on? | ||
| So after 300,000 copies, we ran out of paper, and it took an extra two months To get the same quality, to procure more of the books. | ||
| So that was our first book. | ||
| Incredible sales that only President Trump could have achieved. | ||
| Most of his books have been bestsellers, some of them number one. | ||
| Our Journey Together went to the top, unlike any other book. | ||
| The President came up with this idea because he's corresponded with all these people. | ||
| I didn't even know he had these letters. | ||
| A lot of people today don't correspond. | ||
| A lot of people don't keep these letters. | ||
| When I went to his archives in New York and we're opening up these boxes and all of a sudden you see an original letter from Princess Diana. | ||

| You have religious figures, and you've got, you know, their letters to you, your correspondent back, the great photography, but then the special is your commentary and observations. | ||
| How did you come up with the idea? | ||

Why did you want to do this? So a group of people got to see in my office. | |
| I have stacks and stacks of letters from really famous people. | ||
| They say very diverse, okay? | ||
| Very diverse, like actors and crazy people and probably, I shouldn't say this, probably mobsters and, you know, we had sort of everyone. | ||
| Yeah, boxers, but we had everybody. | ||
| And Richard Nixon and politicians, famous politicians, and some really good ones and very personal letters. | ||
| And they saw this and they said, you got to be, and they started looking and Sergio, who you just had on is terrific. | ||
| Fantastic. He started looking at these letters. | ||
| He said, these letters are incredible. | ||
| I had two women, Norma, who passed away, but she was with me for many years and she was a fantastic woman. | ||

And she worked with a young woman named Rona. | |
| Rona. Rona Graf. And between the two of them, they loved to save letters. | ||
| And every letter was saved and preserved and beautiful and wrapped up. | ||
| And all of a sudden, we saw these boxes full of letters and Sergio and his staff, they went through them. | ||
| They said, you're not going to believe some of these letters. | ||
| Like getting a letter from Rosie O'Donnell, who was in love. | ||
| I don't want to say that. In the true sense of the word, but, you know, she really liked me a lot. | ||
| Whoopi Goldberg. By the way, Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, I mean, it's the whole, it's the whole, it's all this kind of graciousness, gratitude in class. | ||
| Well, not just running for office, because we've got Cuomo, I want to talk to you about that. | ||
| It's what you stood for when you ran for office. | ||
| That's what separated out. | ||
| I want to go just to some of the, I think, some of the ones, the best at the beginning. | ||
| Talk to me. Phantom of the Opera just closed. | ||
| New York City is a very different place today. | ||
| Do you agree? Much different. You were there. | ||
| There's a letter and a couple letters here from Andrew Lloyd Webber. | ||
| Were you there opening night or close to opening night? | ||
| Opening night, yeah. Opening night. | ||
| Did you know at the time, tell me about the experience, did you know that this was going to be a landmark production? | ||
| Well, nobody does. You know, Broadway is hit and miss. | ||
| They say the worst investment you can make is a Broadway play because they always fail. | ||
| But when you hit, it's big, okay? | ||
| When you hit, it's almost bigger than hitting a big movie. | ||
| In fact, some people say it's bigger. | ||
| And I had a lot of respect for him. | ||
| He lived in Trump Tower with Sarah Brightman. | ||
| They fought like hell. | ||
| This was not made in heaven. | ||
| She always wanted the windows open, but it's an old last building. | ||
| You have to keep them closed. How about that? | ||
| Because the letters, your observation, she was an opera singer? | ||
| She was a singer. She wanted it open to sing? | ||
| She wanted it for her voice. | ||
| She was. Fresh air. | ||
| Fresh air. She didn't want perfect air. | ||
| She wanted fresh air. But the fresh air from New York. | ||
| So, you know, she was happy. | ||
| Fifth Avenue, the cars, everything. | ||
| But it's a glass tower. It's an all glass tower. | ||
| We have window washers that go up and they blast the hell out of the glass. | ||
| You're very particular about how the building's clean. | ||
| Oh, yeah, yeah. I always keep things clean. | ||
| I like cleanliness, right? | ||
| So that's why I get sick when I look at New York and what's happened so badly. | ||
| So we have these beautiful window washers. | ||
| They go up mechanically and they just blast everything. | ||
| But all the windows are closed. | ||
| We say, please never have your window open. | ||
| Please, please. But she didn't care about that. | ||
| She wanted it open for her voice. | ||
| And this window washer goes up, and every time we'd pass their apartment, they'd have a window open, and they would just... | ||
| And they're hitting it with the high pressure. | ||
| Yeah, and she was not happy. | ||
| This was... She'd be rehearsing, and she'd get wiped out. | ||
| It got to a point, I don't even think they rebuilt or repainted, because she just insisted on it. | ||
| She used to complain all the time. | ||
| And, you know, she was a very nice man, but she wanted to have outside air. | ||
| And I said, why don't you move into a different building? | ||
| You know, this is like we're a glass tower, a beautiful glass tower. | ||
| But anyway, but they were married and she was a big star. | ||
| She was the star of Phantom. Yeah. | ||
| But no, it's just interest because I'm a big fan of Phantom of the Opera and others. | ||
| But you know, as soon as the first night you saw it, there was going to be something special because you fell in love with this, particularly certain music. | ||
| So it's like politics, like anything. | ||
| You never really know, but this thing was special. | ||
| So he wrote me a letter, which I have in here, and it's dear Donald essentially saying, I'd love you. | ||
| This is where people love me. | ||
| I used to get invited to everything. | ||
| I was invited to that Anna Winter thing that she does at the museum. | ||

| The Super Bowl of Fashion. | ||
| The day I ran for politics, I said, has the invitation come in? | ||
| I haven't seen any, sir. | ||
| But I was, I get the best table. | ||
| I was the king of that thing. | ||
| And then all of a sudden, you know, you go cold turkey, which is okay. | ||
| And it's over politics. | ||
| And, you know, all I want to do is make America great again. | ||
| You know, when you think about it, make America great, America first. | ||
| Why are people so opposed to that? | ||
| I don't even think they know why they're opposed. | ||
| But anyway, so I look at this beautiful letter I get from Andrew Lloyd Webber, who was big before Phantom, but nothing like Phantom. | ||
| And he did Jesus Christ Superstar, which was another great one. | ||
| He did a lot of great things. | ||
| But he said, because he lived in the building of Trump Tower, he knew me a little bit. | ||
| And he said, I'd love to have you as my guest. | ||
| I'm opening up a musical called The Phantom of the Opera. | ||
| And I said, oh, so let's go. | ||
| So I say on the letter, okay, I'll go. | ||
| And anyway, we went. | ||
| And it opens with the chandelier and this. | ||
| You've been there, right? Yes, yes, yes. | ||
| Do you agree? It's like... The first time I saw a shock when the chandelier drops. | ||
| No, but the whole thing was great. | ||
| It was a great, great musical. | ||
| He said, but I'm opening a musical called Phantom of the Opera, and I'm saying to myself, all right. | ||
| Now, I get many letters like that. | ||
| I still get letters like that, except it's a little hard when they make you put masks on and do this thing. | ||
| I mean, you know, I think Broadway, you still have to. | ||
| It's brutal. It's brutal. | ||
| I mean, if you had a Broadway theater right now, it just... | ||
| Well, plus the city. | ||
| What's happened to the city. Plus what's happened to the city. | ||
| Look, it just closed after, what, 40 years. | ||
| This letter is from the opening night. | ||
| The reason I want to start with that, it just closed last week. | ||
| Yeah, no, it did. It did. | ||
| It was very sad. Because of what's happened to the city. | ||
| I think I know why it closed beyond that, but I think it's, you know, you've got to have You gotta have a lot of things going right. | ||

And they get so politically correct. | |
| But it did close. And I would think it's very hard to open on Broadway, have anything on Broadway. | ||
| But Phantom was one of the greatest of all. | ||
| So I go in and I see this music. | ||
| I said, this thing is unbelievable. | ||
| It didn't take long because the music is so good. | ||
| By the time we had intermission, it was like I said, this thing is incredible. | ||
| And by the end, you know, with the whole thing with the gondolas and the candles and the whole thing coming out and the great music. | ||
| And we play a lot of that music. | ||
| I mean, I go to places where we want background music. | ||
| That's beautiful. It's great. | ||
| Everybody likes it. But you go there and it's opening night for one of the most successful plays, musicals ever. | ||
| I would say maybe the most, but certainly one of the most. | ||
| And it was sort of cool to see a letter where I'm opening a show. | ||
| On Broadway. It's a musical. | ||
| It's called Phantom of the Opera. | ||
| And it's Andrew Lloyd Webber. And I said, OK, I'll go. | ||
| And then you go. And, you know, you think it's a long time ago. | ||
| You feel young. I still feel very young. | ||
| And I watch other people. | ||
| By the way, when they talk about Biden being old, he's not old. | ||
| I have friends that are 85, 90, 93. | ||
| You look at Bernie Marcus. | ||
| He's 100 percent. | ||
| He's 94, 95. | ||
| Sharp as ever. Biden's not old. | ||
| That's not his problem. He's got other problems, but he doesn't have an old problem. | ||
| But I think they like to say that for other reasons. | ||
| He's got a big problem now because you've given him a nickname. | ||
| Yesterday was a big day. | ||
| I decided that I've decided that Hillary's cooked. | ||
| We can't do too much better. | ||
| You know, I always felt, I never felt that Crooked Hillary was a great name. | ||
| I thought it was accurate, but it never flowed like some of the other names. | ||
| You have letters in here from Bill Clinton. | ||
| You talk about Bill Clinton. I do. | ||
| No, I like him. He had a real relationship with you. | ||
| They were at my wedding. | ||
| They were at my wedding to Melania when we got married in Palm Beach. | ||
| They came, a lot of people came. | ||
| Maybe you're sort of saying, can you try and leave me out of that whole deal? | ||
| But it was a beautiful wedding. | ||
| They were there. They couldn't have been nicer. | ||
| We had a very good relationship. | ||
| I used to play golf with Bill Clinton. | ||
| I have a club in Westchester that's fantastic. | ||
| There's a great photograph in this book. | ||
| At West Chester with Bloomberg, Clinton, yourself, for a round. | ||
| Well, Bloomberg loved me, too, until I ran. | ||
| Bloomberg called me and said, could you do me a favor? | ||
| Could you take over this golf course that's been under construction for 28 years? | ||
| It was a project in the Bronx. | ||
| Right. I took it over. | ||
| I got it done in nine months. | ||
| It was under construction for 29 years, and he was embarrassed by it. | ||
| I had a very, and I did a great job with it, and we opened it. | ||

| I'm seven down. He said, I can't beat this guy. | ||

| Can you believe it? He carried sod on his shoulders because he was so powerful. | ||
| And Arnold was a very powerful man. | ||
| You know what I mean? That's the way it is. | ||
| Arnold was like a blacksmith. | ||
| His arms were strong. | ||
| He was quite a man. | ||
| And Arnold would practice with his father after the club was closed. | ||
| And they couldn't afford even a golf club. | ||
| So they'd go in and use the members club in the evening. | ||

| And Arnold became a great golfer. | ||
| Then he won the U.S. amateur. He turned pro. | ||
| He immediately did well. He bought the club. | ||
| And he made his father the manager. | ||
| Isn't that great? You know, it's like to me, it's like one of the great stories and many great stories, but that's one of the great stories. | ||

| So Mark McCormick lost badly. | ||

| He said to me, you know, because I became very friendly with Arnold later when he was older. | ||
| He said, you know, I bought a beautiful jet, and they all want me to finance it. | ||
| They give me all these financing options. | ||
| Should I finance it? I said, well, do you need the money? | ||
| No, I don't. I'd rather just pay cash. | ||
| I said, you're doing it right. Pay cash. | ||
| You don't have to listen to these geniuses. | ||
| You don't need to borrow money. | ||
| I'll never forget it. I said, do you need the money? | ||
| No. I don't want to do that. | ||
| They want me to finance the plane. | ||

| It was sort of funny. But Arnold flew his own plane. | ||
| But Arnold was a great guy. | ||
| And so he became an owner of IMG. He was one of the original owners. | ||
| I think it was just Mark and Arnold. | ||
| Arnold was the first client at IMG. IMG became the biggest agency. | ||
| I mean, Mark McCormick did a phenomenal job. | ||
| He was very good at that. He was better at that than he was a guy. | ||

| In the book, did you realize at the time, because I'm going to talk about some of the politicians and did they have the right stuff, did you realize at the time, because if you see the letters and you see the communication, there's graciousness, gratitude, true friendship, even maybe sometimes you didn't know them that well, you'd done things for them, there's a line of demarcation. | ||

| You had a tax thing. And Janet Yellen, she's taken almost a trillion dollars off the balance sheet of the Federal Reserve. | ||
| Not quantitative easing, what Biden has done, which juices the system. | ||
| You put another headwind in to make sure that there wasn't going to be asset inflation. | ||
| In 19, is there any doubt in your mind whether they purposely released or inadvertently came from the lab that the CCP, the Chinese Communist Party and Xi wanted to do to make sure that Donald Trump was not reelected? | ||

| In fact, I said about a month ago, they were saying about, will it be close in Iowa? | ||

| I gave the farmers, so it's Iowa, Nebraska, the whole Farm Belt, I gave the farmers $28 billion. | ||
| I asked my Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, good guy. | ||
| I said, Sonny, how much would, because what they did to, you know, what China did to the farmers, they tried to put them out of business because of me, because I was saying, this is what we're doing with the tariffs. | ||
| The farmers were so unbelievable the way they stuck with me, because we had to go through a period of time before we made, and that trade deal was unbelievable. | ||
| I gave the farmers $28 billion. | ||
| You know what that is? Divided among all these farmers. | ||
| They got checks. They got a check in the mail. | ||
| They couldn't believe it. | ||
| I said, nobody's going to beat me with the farmers because nobody... | ||
| And they gave them a tax. They didn't have to sell the farm when they passed it to the kids. | ||
| Didn't have to sell the farm to the kids. | ||
| The farmers' kids were getting wiped out. | ||
| You've been one of the great backers of the American farmer, particularly the small American farmer, not just the big agrar farmer. | ||
| Maybe even more so the small farmer. | ||
| But, you know, they were losing their farms because the father would die, the parents would die, they'd leave it to their kids who they loved. | ||
| I said, if you don't leave their kids, then it's not going to help you that much because who cares? | ||
| You're going to be dead. Who cares? | ||
| But if you love your children, I'm your best friend ever. | ||
| They have no tax to pay when they sell their farm. | ||
| They had no, because the estate tax or the death tax, as we call it sometimes, but the estate tax was so onerous. | ||
| It was so bad. So they die and they leave their farm and they'd assess the farm because, you know, farms have value, but they don't have necessarily a lot of cash. | ||
| Right. So all of a sudden these kids have to go to banks and they mortgage up their farm. | ||
| They put a 70 % mortgage on and within two, three years. | ||
| And at these interest rates, you're dead. | ||
| They were dead. And now you have the interest rates again. | ||
| You have the interest rates again. | ||
| They want to raise taxes. | ||
| They want to double your taxes. | ||
| It's great. Look, between borders, and we can talk about it. | ||
| But think of it. Between borders. | ||
| But there's also people who don't get. The tariffs, you went after Xi and said, hey, we're going to bring back American manufacturing and take care of American citizens. | ||
| People don't realize you also use tariffs to help secure the border. | ||

| Well, they would have never done it. | ||
| I said to the president of Mexico, who I really like, I have to tell you, he's great. | ||
