You've been reporting on how extremists have started to go local since last year's riot. | |
| Walk us through what they're doing and how widespread it is. | ||
| Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about fractures in the GOP in the last year around specific factions in the Republican Party, you know, and how much fealty they have to Donald Trump. | ||
| The one place there is no fracturing is how extremists have ritually gone town by town and tried to take over school boards, health boards, really any kind of local government. | ||
| And they're doing it both by trying to vote people out, getting their own guys in there, but also by intimidation. | ||
| So, you know, groups like the Proud Boys have been in the back of school board meetings trying to intimidate people into getting rid of mask mandates or vaccine mandates. | ||
| But also people have been trying to vote people out of school boards to try to enforce those things through legal ways. | ||
| So that's really where this is all headed. | ||
| They are trying to build a base, you know, on the town-by-town level. | ||
| And at that point, once they're in the government or once they've intimidated the government, they can get the policies they prefer. | ||
| And they're doing it in the wide open, legally. | ||
| These people are not hiding in the shadows, Jonathan. | ||
| They're running for office, they're fundraising off of these extreme views, and they're getting elected. | ||
| This is preventable by not electing them. | ||
| And some of them are winning. | ||
| How dangerous is this? | ||
| What does it tell you? | ||
| Well, I think Ben's reporting is right, you know, and it's deeply dangerous. | ||
| The idea that you'd have people who are against government And who are extremists running for governments that they can manipulate the levers of power is really very scary. | ||
| This is how authoritarianism creeps into our system and takes over. | ||
| And so, you know, at the ADL, we did some analysis last December because we've seen this, not just the normalization of extremism, Stephanie, which you and I have discussed before, but the localization of it. | ||
| Right. | ||
| And Ben is right to point out health boards, school boards, educate election related roles, trying to change curricula, trying to change masking mandates. | ||
| And this is legally how they do it, but it can be stopped and it should be stopped by people from the left and the right. | ||
| I think we need to keep in mind that this isn't, though they're using the levers of democracy, this is the same anti-democratic trend we've seen in Hungary, we've seen in Turkey, we've seen in other authoritarian regimes around the world in recent years. | ||
| But what does it say about all these communities that they're voting them in? | ||
| Well, I think the reality is that the leadership of the GOP gave license to these kinds of extremists when Donald Trump not only acknowledged them, he embraced them. | ||
| And Vice President Harris will make an urgent call for the passage of federal voting rights laws, specifically two bills stalled by Senate Republican obstruction. | ||
| Senate Democrats are expected to take up a bill by MLK Day to change Senate filibuster rules, which is currently opposed by two conservative Democrats who won't say what they actually will support. | ||
| That's partly why some Georgia voting rights groups told the White House to stay away unless they have a plan to get the legislation over the finish line. | ||
| A joint statement signed by several groups noted, Georgia voters made history and made their voices heard, overcoming obstacles, threats, and suppressive laws to deliver the White House and the US Senate. | ||
| In return, a visit has been forced on them, requiring them to accept political platitudes and repetitious, bland promises. | ||
| Such an empty gesture, without concrete action, without signs of real, tangible work, is unacceptable. | ||
| And tonight, a coalition of groups who signed on to that statement, including Black Voters Matter, announced that they will be skipping President Biden. | ||
| One of the nation's best known voting rights advocates and the current Democratic candidate for governor in the state will not be in attendance today, citing a scheduling conflict. | ||
| She did, however, tweet support for the event. | ||
| So a big day in Georgia today on many levels, Joe. | ||

| It was actually a drop-off box located on private property. | ||
| I have verification from the county that it was private property. | ||
| I also have a voter that actually dropped his absentee ballot off at that drop-off box. | ||
| That is against the law. | ||
| That is totally against the law, and believe it or not, I know this may sound crazy. | ||

| Because the Secretary of State and Brian Kemp, the governor, and the Attorney General, Chris Carr, they're all in cahoots together. | ||

| Once they make their collections of the evidence, who do they give it to for prosecution? | ||

| So I'm calling on Joe Biden to direct the attorney general to come and investigate fraud in Georgia. | ||
| By the way, there's a federal law that said that you cannot destroy election documents. | ||
| Well, the secretary of state here in Georgia told the election registrar across the state that you only have to keep the video footage for 30 days. | ||
| There are many of them that have already destroyed the video footage. | ||
| The federal law says you must keep it for 22 months. | ||
| So when I was talking about the audit and maintaining those records, Here's part of the cover. | ||

| McDowell, is there is you and your own sense that you feel invulnerable to it, but there are healthcare workers who are begging people like yourself to get vaccinated because what they're seeing is that the vast majority of the people who are coming to the ER, who are clogging up the healthcare system, who are making it impossible for somebody with a stroke or with a heart attack to be able to get in because all the patients are COVID, It is 10 times more likely if you are unvaccinated that you're going to end up in the ER if you get it. | ||
| People who are unvaccinated are literally making our health systems shut down. | ||
| Are you concerned that you could, even if you can survive it, that you might give it to somebody who can't survive it, who might end up in the ER, or that you might end up in the ER and make it impossible for these poor health care workers to do their jobs? | ||
| They're also begging because they're suffering too. | ||

| I mean, the data are in categorically, you know, CDC is acknowledging it. | ||
| Senior health officials are acknowledging it. | ||
| The unvaccinated are, you know, less filling hospitals than are the vaccinated. | ||
| This is studies out of Israel, out of Europe. | ||
| And this notion, which is so existentially Wrong, that you have to get vaccinated to protect other people. | ||
| That is completely false, as we've said a million times. | ||
| So now they're reverting it. | ||
| So interesting to watch them kind of revert to new talking points. | ||
| So it's like, OK, maybe you're not more infectious if you're unvaccinated. | ||
| But, you know, these these health care workers are begging you to get vaccinated. | ||
| Again, again, nonsensically. | ||
| I mean, we are a rich, free country. | ||
| If we need more hospitals, we should build more hospitals. | ||
| If, you know, there's going to be suppression of liberties every time someone goes to the hospital, then we should force people to exercise or force people to take their insulin or force people to not smoke and on and on and on. | ||
| And we don't do that because we have human rights and autonomy and we are adults and we can make our own choices. | ||
| So that's painful. | ||
| So now let me go to why they're hammering and hammering. | ||
| One huge reason is that a vast trope, and I'll talk about Washington State in a minute, it's related, A vast trove of documents that are stunning came out of Project Veritas. | ||
| And I'm here as a kind of refugee of the left to say that Project Veritas was represented to me as, you know, like you, right? | ||
| The spear point of evil. | ||
| And they're doing such important work, such important reporting. | ||
| And this trove, I just read it this morning, there's a stunning cover letter by a whistleblower to the Department of Defense saying, I've looked at All of this, you know, gain-of-function material, there is no question that Dr. Fauci essentially lied about gain-of-function experiments, according to this insider at the Department of Defense. | ||
| But he goes, that's not all, right? | ||
| That's not all. | ||

| And the thing leaked out while it was still, um, uh, highly potent for humans that I, if, if these documents, uh, are verified, then, um, this is truly a smoking gun of, of historic proportions. | ||

| Now I have, uh, As you know, I have been corresponding with Senator Johnson's office since this has broken. | ||
| And I have a formal statement, and it's important to remember that Senator Ron Johnson, number one, the press has painted him as wackadoodle. | ||

| And I'm also going to say, because I think that this is going to turn out to be huge and people are not paying enough attention, North Carolina, possibly Maryland, you know, there are, they say there are places around the United States where these experiments were proceeding. | ||

| We don't know that everyone who got sick in the United States got sick because of China, you know, we don't know what may have leaked or what the conditions were in the United States. | ||
