The Abortion Issue Explodes

Time Text
As I've talked about on the show for the past several months, Donald Trump is now the centrist candidate in this 2024 political race.
And that's being reflected in the numbers.
The reason that Joe Biden is not doing well is because the Democrats are perceived correctly as moving toward the radical left.
Donald Trump, by contrast, has actually been moving positionally toward the center on nearly every major issue.
And that is just one reason why Donald Trump continues To do well in the polls, better than he did, certainly, back in 2020.
On this date in history, Joe Biden was up 6.3 points in his election race against Donald Trump in 2020.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton was up by nearly 11 points.
Today, Donald Trump, in the RealClearPolitics polling average, is up a little less than one point.
In the latest Morning Consult poll, he is up one.
According to Emerson, he is up one.
These are very close polls, but the bottom line is that Donald Trump tends, again, to over produce relative to the polls.
When you look at a five-way race, that gap really starts to open for Trump.
So you now have a two-point lead because Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is earning almost 10%
in all of these polls, and Jill Stein is earning 1.5%,
and Cornel West is earning 1.7%.
So even if you figure that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s polling numbers are split,
some are coming from Trump, some are coming from Biden, probably more are coming from Biden than from Trump,
and there's another 2% to 3% outstanding is going to far-left candidates
like Jill Stein and Cornel West.
Meanwhile, in the battlegrounds, Trump continues to do well.
He's currently leading in all the battleground states with the exception of Pennsylvania,
where he's behind by.
It's a dead heat in Pennsylvania.
You look at Wisconsin, he's up by a little bit less than a point.
In Arizona, he's up by nearly five.
In Georgia, he's up by four.
In Michigan, he's up by three.
In North Carolina, he's up by five.
In Nevada, he's up by three.
Nevada, of course, is the wild card in this race.
He lost that one.
It wasn't even considered a swing state in the last election cycle.
And now the map has broadened for President Trump.
Not just that.
Democrats have historically had a really strong on-the-ground advantage in terms of registered voters across the country.
That is disintegrating as well.
According to the New York Times, in the run-up to the 2020 election, more voters across the country identified as Democrats than Republicans.
But four years into Joseph R. Biden Jr.' 's presidency, the gap has shrunk.
The United States now sits almost evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
Republicans have made significant gains among voters without a college degree, rural voters, and white evangelical voters, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center.
Remember, that is a group that Donald Trump overperformed with in 2016 and then actually underperformed with in 2020.
The great lie of the 2020 election, with regard to demographics, is that Donald Trump did really, really well with rural voters, and he didn't do as well with minorities.
He actually did better with minorities than he did in 2016, and not quite as well with rural voters as he did in 2016.
At the same time, Democrats have held on to key constituencies like Black voters and younger voters.
They've also gained ground with college-educated voters.
So according to the New York Times report, right now, about 49% of voters are registered Democrat.
About 48% of Republicans are registered Democrat.
So, that is basically dead even.
The implications of the trend remain uncertain because party affiliation doesn't always predict exactly how you're going to vote, but suffice it to say that if you have the stones to register Republican at this point in time, it is because you are voting for Donald Trump.
If you vote Democrat, that used to be sort of just the de facto thing you did.
You just do it, even if you're voting Republican.
So the fact that you have seen this uptick in voter registration among Republicans is really alarming to Democrats, and it should be.
Latino voters also are registering as more Republican than Democrat in terms of their historical performance.
Hispanics in virtually every poll are well out polling for Trump at this point where they were in 2016 or 2020.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are starting to hit the panic button.
According to Politico, former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain openly questioned President Joe Biden's political strategy on Tuesday night, arguing he was focused on long-term infrastructure projects and not enough on immediate economic needs as he runs for re-election.
Klain said, I think the president is out there too much talking about bridges.
He does two or three events a week where he's cutting a ribbon on a bridge.
Here's a bridge.
Like I tell you, if you go into a grocery store, you go to the grocery store, you know, eggs and milk are expensive.
The fact that there's an effing bridge is not blank.
Speaking at an event hosted by the publication Democracy, a journal of ideas, the longtime Biden advisor went on to say that while the infrastructure being built under the Biden administration was positive, the president was thinking too narrowly and focusing on it.
He said he's not a congressman.
He's not running for Congress.
I think it's a fool's errand.
I think it doesn't get covered that much because look, it's an effing bridge.
Like, it's a bridge.
How interesting is a bridge?
In other words, a very frustrated former Chief of Staff to the President of the United States.
Once again, this means that Democrats are going to have to run against Donald Trump, not in favor of Joe Biden.
Again, Joe Biden's record when it comes to foreign policy is a full-scale disaster area, and not just a full-scale disaster area, a deeply immoral full-scale disaster area, as we'll get to a little bit later on.
We'll get some more on this in just a moment.

On the economy, everybody is still holding their breath.
The reality is that the tremendous wage erosion that resulted from the inflationary spiral that Joe Biden created, that has not even come close to being made up by the wage increases that we are now seeing relative to inflation.
If you inflate, everybody's price is 20%.
And then you get like a 4 or 5% wage increase for like a quarter.
That ain't gonna make up for that giant gap that still exists in the market.
So this means the Democrats have to run on the thing that they think won Joe Biden the presidency in 2020, which is the idea that Donald Trump is an incipient tyrant.
The problem with this is that this has been played out.
We've heard the story before.
They're trying to run on January 6th to say it's a news story, but the reality is that it isn't really.
I mean, all of us remember January 6th.
The Democrats who perceive it to be an insurrection that put the very fabric of the country in danger are overstating the case.
Most people look at January 6th and what they see is an ugly riot that was then brought under control and then Joe Biden became president of the United States.
And so when Democrats say the country was this close to tyranny, most people are like, no, it really, really was not.
But Democrats can't stop themselves.
So, for example, this is the argument being made by Joe Biden.
Joe Biden did an interview.
It was about a week ago, six to eight days ago, actually.
And he did this interview with I believe Unificion, which is, of course, a left-wing Hispanic station.
And here he was suggesting that the greatest threat to American democracy is Donald Trump, which is kind of an amazing thing to say when you're the President of the United States who vows continually to overthrow the Supreme Court with regard to, say, student loans.
He tries to use your Occupational Safety and Health Administration to cram down vaccines on 80 million Americans.
That doesn't seem like the kind of person who I trust when it comes to adjudicating whether tyranny is occurring or not.
Here's Joe Biden.
What, in your view, constitutes the primary threat to freedom and democracy at home?
Donald Trump.
Seriously.
Donald Trump uses phrases like he's going to eviscerate the Constitution, he's going to be a dictator on day one.
I mean, it's just... And think of the things he says.
Look at the way he talks about Minority populations, Hispanics, you know, we're talking about them being... Anyway, it's just... I can't think of any other time in my lifetime, in history that's occurred, that you've had somebody who's had this kind of attitude.
He says he's going to be a dictator on day one.
No one doesn't believe him.
Uh, no, actually, what he says is, I'll be a dictator on day one to close the border, meaning he will use executive action to close the border, and then he says I won't be a dictator anymore.
By the way, I got a note here.
Joe Biden is holding notecards during an interview.
Now, I interview people, and that means sometimes I have my questions written down on notecards, because I'm the interviewer.
I have never held notecards as an interviewee.
That's bizarre.
It's weird, and once again speaks to the fact that the President of the United States is no longer with us.
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi is once again trying to push a connection between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
They're just going to play the hits here.
So, who benefits from it?
Donald Trump.
Who benefits from Donald Trump?
Putin.
There's, in my view, a connection there.
In my view, there's a connection.
You've been saying this for legitimately eight years at this point, and if you still believe that Vladimir Putin is using Donald Trump as an op, I don't even know what to say to you.
This is so crazy.
First of all, you militarized the entire deep state to promote this lie that was rooted in Hillary Clinton and her campaign, and you've used eight years and laundered it through the media in order to obtain that story, and you're still pushing it, and then you say to me that I'm supposed to worry about Donald Trump's tyranny?
In the last election cycle, you literally used the federal government in order to pressure social media to take down a true story about Hunter Biden's laptop, saying that it was Russian disinformation.
And you militarized former intelligence associates to go out there and make public statements about how the Hunter Biden laptop was disinformation.
So no, I don't believe you when it comes to your tyranny pitch.
Meanwhile, you have Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, who's out there saying that, you know, the impeachment of Alejandro Mayorkas, we shouldn't do that because that's too political.
Impeachment shouldn't be used politically.
Again, do these people even own mirrors?
Are mirrors illegal in Democratic offices?
Your colleagues say you're going to offer a motion to dismiss the impeachment charges on Thursday.
Are you at all concerned that some Democrats have tough races over that and you'll come back to block them on
campaign trail?
Look, we're going to try and resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Impeachment should never be used to settle policy disagreements.
Then why did they impeach Donald Trump twice without any criminal charges in the impeaching documents?
The people who are promoting the Trump is going to be a tyrant argument It makes it very rough to make that argument when you guys have attempted to impose tyranny on a wide variety of topics yourselves.
We'll get to more on this in a moment.
First, let's be real.
There are people who say cauliflower crust pizza is better than normal pizza.
Those people are liars.
I'm not going to get my vegetables that way.
So I make up my vegetable deficiencies by taking Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies.
Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies is the most convenient way to ensure you get your daily intake of fruits and veggies.
Balance of Nature uses an advanced cold vacuum process that encapsulates fruits and veggies into whole food supplements without sacrificing those natural anti-oxidants.

Fruits and veggies.
You need nutrients to function at your best every single day.
Balance of Nature helps you do just that.
I've been traveling a lot recently.

And meanwhile, Democrats are going to try to shift the entire election to be about abortion.
This is why Donald Trump made what I've said.
It's a very savvy political move in dissociating himself from the issue entirely.
He says that the federal government should not be involved in the abortion issue.
Now, I've made the moral case that the federal government should in fact be involved in the moral issue.
With that said, the reality is the most criminal law occurs at the state level.
Virtually all criminal law occurs at the state level.
The most the President of the United States can do unilaterally without congressional approval is things like end the Mexico City policy, which is funding for abortion overseas, for example, or spending it Planned Parenthood domestically.
The reality is that there used to be a fairly wide consensus that the federal government should not involve itself in abortion by funding abortion.
Joe Biden is the one who broke that pact by saying that you and I should fund abortions across the country.
He's the one who said the Hyde Amendment should go.
So Donald Trump has made the move of trying to take the abortion issue off the table, at least for federal elections, by saying, I'm not going to do anything on it.
Again, as I say, as a pro-lifer, I wish that he would have said a 15-week position, but that's not what he said.
He's making what, again, is a politically moderate move by any stretch of the imagination by saying, let the states take care of it.
Well, yesterday, Democrats got a gift in the form of an Arizona State Supreme Court decision that reinstates a 160-year-old abortion ban in the state of Arizona.
According to the New York Times, Arizona's highest court on Tuesday upheld an 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions, a decision that could have far-reaching consequences for women's health care and election-year politics in a critical battleground state.
The court said in a 4-2 decision, physicians are now on notice that all abortions except those necessary to save a woman's life are illegal.
By the way, this gives the lie to the frequently used Democratic narrative that there were no abortion laws and no one cared about it until Roe vs. Wade.
There were abortion laws on virtually every state book Dating back centuries in this country.
The court, whose justices are all Republican appointees, also put the ruling on hold for the moment and sent the matter back to a lower court for additional arguments about the law's constitutionality.
Abortion providers said they expected to continue performing abortions through May as their lawyers and Democratic lawmakers search for new legal arguments and additional tactics to delay the ruling.
Okay, so the Arizona legislature, at this point, the governor, as you know, is not, in fact, Carrie Lake.
The governor is Katie Hobbs.
Carrie Lake lost to her, despite all of the rumors to the contrary.
She lost to the wet dish rag, who is Katie Hobbs.
Katie Hobbs is a Democrat.
Here is Katie Hobbs lamenting the decision.
It is a dark day in Arizona.
Just now, the Arizona Supreme Court issued its opinion in Planned Parenthood v. Mays, upholding one of the most extreme abortion bans in the country.
The Republican majority in the legislature has time and again refused to act to protect our freedoms.
They have refused to repeal this civil war, extreme civil war, near-total abortion ban.
In fact, the Senate President and House Speaker fought in this very case to keep this extreme ban in place.
and as it stands, they might have their way. They have refused to act to protect IVF and
contraception. Instead, they tell women to put aspirin between their knees.
No one says that. I'm proud to be a backstop to their extremism.
Arizona women should never have to fear the next court decision.
Yeah, first of all, you shouldn't have to fear a court decision because you shouldn't go get
an abortion.
Just as a moral matter, you should not pursue abortion and believe that the court is the imposition to you.
Because abortion is immoral, and wrong, and sinful.
But, put all of that aside.
The politics here are very good for Democrats because what Democrats want is for pro-lifers to move really fast and really hard in a wide variety of battleground states, hoping that they will then get the Michigan-Kansas response.
So as you recall, Kansas put a ballot measure on the ballot calling essentially for the ability to change the state constitution to allow for abortion legislation.
And opponents said they were going to ban all abortions in the state.
So instead, Kansas ended up enshrining abortion in the state constitution.
Same thing happened in Michigan.
So, this is an argument that I've had with many of my pro-life colleagues.
We all have the same exact position when it comes to life.
That life should be protected, ideally, from point of inception.
How you reach that in a durable manner, such that the law does not end up being reversed and allowing millions of abortions over the course of time, that is a pragmatic question.
And not every state is going to approach it the same.
Mississippi, Alabama, deep red states can pass very, very strict abortion bans, and things will be fine because the vast majority of the population supports that sort of thing.
When you go to Arizona, that is a very split state.
Right now, it has a Democratic governor, it has two Democratic senators, thanks to the stupidity of the Arizona Republican Party, and it has an extremely evenly split legislature in Arizona.
The legislature in Arizona is bicameral.
The Senate is split 16-14 in favor of Republicans, and the House is split 31-29 in favor of Republicans.
So a very, very close split.
Presumably, there are some quote-unquote moderate Republicans in the state who would vote with Democrats in order to get rid of the 1864 law.
If they got rid of the 1864 law, then a 2022 law that was passed when a Republican governor, Doug Ducey, was in office, provided for a 15-week ban.
My guess is that that is what Katie Hobbs is going to be able to get away with unless she were to veto a repeal of the law, which makes no sense.
So I wouldn't be surprised if she actually gets her repeal in the state of Arizona with a few dodgy Republicans signing off on that.
Politically speaking, Democrats are hoping to elevate this to the federal level.
Now, that would be very silly because the reality is the President of the United States, if he were Donald Trump, would have nothing to say about abortion law in Arizona.
The reason the Democrats are elevating this, not just on the state level, but on the national level, is because they are hoping that they're going to be able to pin the full pro-life position on Donald Trump federally, even though this is happening in the state of Arizona.
So Margaret Hoover, for example, she's out there, sort of moderate left-wing Republican, out there saying that Donald Trump is going to lose Arizona now because of all of this.
I have spoken to state electeds in the last hour.
Republican state electeds.
And they believe that this will absolutely flip the legislature.
This will absolutely impact the presidential election.
This has Republicans now on their back feet.
There is no way Donald Trump is going to carry this state.
Well, Trump has said, Trump has said that he put it to the states.
So, well, they put it to the states.
That's what you get in Arizona.
Well, how's it going?
It's not going to go so well for him in Arizona.
Well, I mean, but it may if people see that he actually has no impact.
In other words, even if some people vote for, say, Democrats in the state legislature because they really like abortion, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to vote for Joe Biden because Donald Trump is going to provide for Arizona to do kind of what it wants to do.
That is why Trump did what he did, politically speaking.
He actually preempted the Arizona Supreme Court decision by taking it off the federal table.
Democrats are insistent on putting it back on the table.
That's why Senator Mark Kelly, Democrat from Arizona, He suggests that Donald Trump is now going to go after contraception.
Can you explain why the Arizona Supreme Court would rule this way?
Well, Jake, let me start by saying this is a disaster for women in Arizona.
Arizona women deserve the right to make their own decision about abortion, and now they can't because of Donald Trump.
I think what I'm more worried about is what's next.
I mean, if Donald Trump, I don't believe he's going to be re-elected, but is his next thing on his agenda to take away other rights?
I mean, is it to take away the right to contraception from women?
Okay, this is ridiculous.
Donald Trump appointed justices who kicked it back to the states.
His current position on all of these issues, I would assume, is they belong in the states.
I love how federalism is now being conflated with tyranny.
Remember, Donald Trump is a threat to you.
Donald Trump is a tyrant, according to Democrats.
He is such a tyrant that he's going to let you vote in your states on what you want to do, which is what all tyrants do.
They delegate power back to the states.
Incredible tyranny there from Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Democrats are like, we need full-scale abortion legislation at the top level that enshrines abortion to point to birth, basically.
We'll do that at the federal level, but we're not the tyrants.
Donald Trump is the tyrant.
He's the one who wants control.
Carrie Lake is doing the same thing that Donald Trump did.
She put out a statement.
She's running for Senate in Arizona.
She's the presumptive Republican nominee in the state, quote, In addition to covering the state of Arizona as a fair and honest journalist for 27 years, I've traveled to every corner of the state on the campaign trail.
I speak to more Arizonans than anyone.
It is abundantly clear the pre-statehood law is out of step with Arizonans.
I'm the only woman and mother in this race.
I understand the fear, anxiety, and joy of pregnancy and motherhood.
I wholeheartedly agree with President Trump.
This is a very personal issue that should be determined by each individual state.
And for people, I oppose today's ruling.
I'm calling on Katie Hobbs and the state legislature to come up with an immediate common-sense solution that Arizonans can support.
So, Carrie Lay, because she's a candidate for federal Senate, not for the state legislature in Arizona, has the capacity to basically say, okay, we're just going to avoid this issue altogether.
So Republicans are clearly on the federal level trying to avoid the issue altogether, which by the way, is kind of the way the federalist system works, right?
The reality is that on a state-by-state level, Criminal law gets decided.
And it's not the same in every state.
Now, I'll make the moral case that Republicans on the federal level should do something.
That doesn't mean they're going to have the power to do any of those things.
And by the way, it's not very clear.
According to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court would even let them do something that goes beyond, say, a 15-week ban on the federal level.
Right now, the only abortion legislation that is on the books on the federal level is partial birth abortion, which is extraordinarily late abortion bans on the federal level.
And again, even when it comes to those federal abortion laws, how they apply in the states is always sort of a matter of weirdness.
Because the reality is, again, that intrastate crime is prosecuted intrastate.
So whenever you have a piece of federal legislation that criminalizes an activity, the question is whether it has any nexus with intrastate activity.
It actually has to have some sort of activity that crosses state borders or impacts the federal government in some way.
So, the Democrats, Have a bit of a conundrum.
The conundrum is that Donald Trump is more moderate than they are on this issue by every available metric.
Joe Biden is abortion to point of birth.
Donald Trump is I'm not going to touch this thing.
Send it back to the states.
That's the actual position.
Good news for Democrats.
They have the media who are willing to lie for them.
We'll get to more on this in just a moment.

So yesterday, this is an incredible and undercover story.
Basically, the Democrat media complex is so unbelievably strong, like unbelievably strong.
faster, smoother, more efficiently, that's ramp.com slash Shapiro.
So yesterday, this is an incredible and undercovered story.
Basically, the Democrat media complex is so unbelievably strong, like unbelievably strong.
So yesterday, USA Today ran a headline about President Trump's abortion position.
And the original headline said, quote, the will of the people.
Trump opposes national abortion ban, says states should decide.
That's accurate.
That is, in fact, what Donald Trump said.
He said, I don't want any federal legislation.
This is something that needs to be decided by the people in the states.
And then he used the phrase will of the people.
We talked about it and criticized it a little bit yesterday on a moral level.
So what happened?
The Biden campaign got on a conference call with the press.
Trump is proudly responsible for the nightmare women like Caitlyn Cash are living through.
Communications Director Brooke Gorin and Caitlin Cash in response to Trump's announcement.
And then Gorin went off on USA Today. So here's what she had to say.
Trump is proudly responsible for the nightmare women like Caitlin Cash are living through.
Trump kept his word to overturn Roe in his last term, and he will not rest until he has banned
abortion across the entire country, period. We all know this, and the coverage needs to reflect it.
Yet today, we're still reading headlines that say Trump, quote, declines to endorse a national abortion ban.
That Trump, quote, rebuffed pressure to the campaign on a national limit.
That Trump, quote, decided to punt the politically fraught issue to the states.
and not back a national abortion ban.
One particularly egregiously false headline even said Trump quote opposes a national abortion ban and will leave it and will leave it up to the quote the will of the people.
Trump didn't decline anything all he did was take credit again for the nightmare he created.
That's the news that's important here.
Okay, that's a lie!
He did, in fact, rebuff Republican pressure to push for a national abortion ban in, say, 15 weeks.
That's why Mike Pence is angry at him.
That's why many pro-lifers, including me, are upset with his moral position on this particular issue.
But what happened?
The Biden campaign gets on and they lie.
They say that all of these perfectly accurate headlines, the headline that Trump decided to punt the politically fraught issue to the states, they say that those are false.
And the media hopped to immediately.
USA Today takes down the accurate headline and then proceeds to promote a non-accurate headline.
The new headline from USA Today is, Donald Trump says states should decide abortion policy, avoids talk of a national ban.
He didn't just avoid talk of a national ban.
He said he wasn't gonna do it.
We played the video like two days ago.
He said, I am not going to engage with this issue.
That's not avoiding talk of it.
He's saying he's not doing it.
But the reality is the Biden campaign wants to paint Donald Trump's position as Mike Pence's position or my position.
And it's not.
It's a different position.
It's why he's receiving flack from right-wing pro-lifers.
And what does the media do?
They immediately start just mimicking whatever the Biden administration wants them to say.
There's nothing wrong with the original headline.
The Democrats just launder their own perspectives right into the headlines.
So how are they able to do this?
The answer is everybody who works for the media is a Democrat.
Literally everyone.
If you go to the halls of the news offices at the New York Times, there are no registered Republicans who voted for Donald Trump.
At least not publicly.
In the New York Times, that probably includes even their editorial page.
Even their quote-unquote right-wing columnists.
People like David French over at the New York Times.
Did not vote for Trump and will not vote for Trump in 2024.
There's literal, maybe Ross do that.
Well, maybe, but he hasn't made that clear.
If you go over to the Washington Post and you go over to their news pages, the news reporting angles, the news pages are less balanced than the editorial side.
The editorial side at least has Hugh Hewitt and Mark Thiessen who sometimes write for them.
But the actual news side?
Zero Republicans.
Zero.
And that's particularly true at NPR.

So, fascinating piece by Uri Berliner, who's a veteran at NPR.
And he, over at the Free Press, Barry Weiss' outlet.
He says, you know the stereotype of an NPR listener, an EV-driving, whirl-playing, tote-bag-carrying coastal elite.
It doesn't precisely describe me, but it's not far off.
I'm Sarah Lawrence, educator, was raised by a lesbian, peace activist mother, I drive a Subaru, and Spotify says my listening habits are most similar to people in Berkeley.
I fit the NPR mold, I'll cop to that.
So when I got a job here 25 years ago, I never looked back.
As a senior editor on the business desk, where news is always breaking, we've covered upheavals in the workplace, supermarket prices, social media, and AI.
It's true, NPR has always had a liberal bent.
But during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed.
We were nerdy, but not knee-jerk activists or scolding.
In recent years, however, that has changed.
Today, those who listen to NPR or read its coverage online find something different.
The distilled worldview of a very small segment of the U.S.
population.
If you're a conservative, you'll read this and say, duh, it's always been this way, but it hasn't.
For decades, since its founding in 1970, a wide swath of America tuned into NPR for reliable journalism and gorgeous audio pieces with birds singing in the Amazon.
Millions came to us for conversations that exposed us to voices around the country and the world radically different from our own.
Back in 2011, although NPR's audience tilted a bit to the left, it still bore resemblance to America at large.
26% of listeners described themselves as conservative, 23% as moderate, 37% as liberal.
By 2023, the picture was different.
11% said conservative, 21% moderate, 67% liberal.
Why?
By 2023, the picture was different.
11% said conservative, 21% moderate, 67% liberal.
Why? Because of Donald Trump.
As Ari Berliner says, like many unfortunate things, the rise of advocacy took off with Donald Trump.
As in many newsrooms, his election in 2016 was greeted at NPR with a mixture of disbelief, anger, and despair.
But what began as tough, straightforward coverage of a belligerent, truth-impaired president veered toward efforts to damage or topple Trump's presidency.
At NPR, we hitched our wagon to Trump's most visible antagonist, Representative Adam Schiff.
It's one thing to swing and miss on a major story.
It happens.
What's worse is to pretend it never happened, but Russiagate was not NPR's only miscue.
And he points out the Hunter Biden laptop story, where NPR literally said they would not cover it.
Or the lab leak theory, which they said they would not cover.
The point is that NPR is completely, completely dominated by Democrats.
It's an assembly line mentality.
So, of course, they are just taking stenographic dictation from the Biden administration.
That's all they do.
That's all the editors at USA Today are doing.
That's all the editors of the Washington Post are doing, or the New York Times.
They are just creating an echo chamber in which their columnists speak directly to Joe Biden in the same way that people accused Donald Trump of taking his cues from Fox and Friends.
Joe Biden takes his cues from the New York Times editorial board.
He gets his foreign policy from Thomas Friedman.
He gets his domestic policy from, like, Nikole Hannah-Jones on race.
And he gets his economic policy from Thomas Edsel.
Maybe.
It's ridiculous.
And this little echo chamber acts as a propagator of falsehood on behalf of Democrats, which is why they were perfectly happy to switch all of their headlines in a false way with regard to Trump's abortion position.
So once again, you're gonna see Arizona magnified.
Now, here's the reality of how things are gonna go in Arizona, as I said earlier.
They have a Democratic governor.
They have an incredibly closely split House and Senate in Arizona.
There's a very good shot that Democrats will be able to peel off a couple of Republicans to vote for the repeal of an 1864 law on abortion, whether or not I like it, whether or not I think it's morally right.
And then, the 15-week abortion ban that was passed by Doug Ducey will be the law of the land in Arizona, and everybody will go about their merry way.
That is the likelihood of what's going to happen here.
In the same way that in Alabama, a huge deal was made out of an Alabama state Supreme Court case with regard to the discarding of embryos against the will of one of the parents, suggesting that they had some rights to embryos.
And this was supposed to cause all sorts of issues for IVF.
And the Alabama state legislature immediately gathered and passed a law that protected IVF.
It turns out that the states are in fact good laboratories for this sort of stuff.
And it also turns out that the predominant power in criminal law, once again, lies with the state.
That's why Donald Trump is doing what Donald Trump is doing.
But the media have to somehow launder Arizona into a federal story when it is a state story.
They have to launder Alabama into a federal story when it is a state story.
Meanwhile, we are supposed to pretend that crime problems in Portland are a state story and not a federal story, so we can't impute any of the crime problems in the country to Joe Biden.
That's how this works.
In the same way that the media decide what's a local news story and what's a national news story based on the narrative.
White guy shoots black man, national news story.
Black guy shoots white man, local crime story.
The same thing happens with regard to pretty much every political lens.
The state Supreme Court in Arizona goes back to an 1864 pro-life law, national news story, everyone worry, you gotta freak out if you're in California.
Meanwhile, if the state of Kansas passes a law that basically enshrines abortion to point of birth, State news story just about how the people of Kansas have found moderation.
Not a national news story that implicates Joe Biden in abortion radicalism in any way, shape, or form.
Incredibly corrupt media coverage.
Again, they are a reality distortion field, our legacy media.
And that reality distortion field is in fact run by the Democrats.
In just one second, we'll get to another reality distortion field.
First, it's been two years of fighting the left and building the future.
With great products, we are only getting better.

Now, all of what's happening in Arizona underscores something that is fundamentally wrong with American politics, and that is what Americans most want.
This has been true for years.
What Americans most want is stability.
That's what most Americans want.
They want something that is stable and predictable and non-radical.
And so it is in the interest of both parties to Interpret the other party's action as radical while attempting to position themselves as moderate.
Instead, what has happened is that both parties are successfully calling the other radical.
Also, both parties are falling hostage to their actual radical base because there is this move that's been happening inside both parties to suggest that you need the passionate, the most passionate.
Those are the people who are going to drive the bus.
Let's put the passionate people in charge of the bus.
Now, in no other industry do you actually want the most passionate people in charge of the bus.
In most other industries, what you want is passionate people who are going to do the difficult work, the difficult on-the-ground work that needs to be done, and they have the passion to actually do it.
You don't actually want the doctor who is emotionally unhinged performing the surgery.
What you want is people who are very passionate about the thing to do a lot of the sort of on-the-ground door-knocking, if you're in a political campaign, for example.
What you don't want them to do is define policy.
Well, both parties have decided that they are basically going to surrender to their fringes.
And that is a real problem.
It's a real problem.
This problem is cropping up, as I've talked about all this week, with regard to Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is not a responsible legislator.
She has attempted to position herself as more of one since she, a couple of years ago, sort of burst onto the scene by saying incredibly silly things.
Well now, Marjorie Taylor Greene is saying that she is going to follow through on her threat to force a vote to unseat Mike Johnson, who is a significantly more conservative legislator than Marjorie Taylor Greene has ever been.
Marjorie Taylor Greene's positions are heterodox on a wide variety of issues.
She also happens to say things that really make it difficult for Republicans to retain power, which does raise the question as to whether these fringe Republicans actually want to retain power, or be in power, or do anything, or what they really want is to be in the opposition.
Because when you're in the opposition, you can yell at the moon, and you can get on TV yelling at the moon.
When you're in the majority, just act like you're in the opposition.
So Marjorie Taylor Greene did an event the other day in Rome, Georgia, where she said that the House Republicans had quote-unquote failed completely Which is weird, because they've actually done more to restrict the spending habits of Joe Biden than the Democrats did.
There's not much you can do when the Senate is dominated by Democrats and the President's a Democrat.
And then, she calls Mike Johnson a Democrat, which is an insane proposition.
By every possible permutation, that's crazy.
Mike Johnson is a down-the-line conservative.
He's typically conservative.
He's hawkish on foreign policy, he's fiscally conservative, and he's socially conservative.
He's much more consistently conservative than anybody like Marjorie Taylor Greene.
And then she adds that she regrets that January 6th was not successful.
The big failing is that Donald Trump didn't retain the presidency after January 6th.
If you think this is the pathway back to the majority, oust the Speaker and follow Marjorie Taylor Greene, welcome to minority permanently.
Because that's the kind of tactics she is aiming for.
It has nothing to do with the benefit of the Republic and everything to do with the magnification of Marjorie Taylor Greene as a famous person.
Here she was yesterday saying a pretty solid combination of things that will wind the Republicans up with a minority in the House, and then you get to watch and see what a Joe Biden presidency dominated by Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer looks like.
Here we go.
We should be prepared to hold on and do what is right.
To do what our voters sent us to do.
But that has not happened this Congress.
As a matter of fact, our Republican House majority has failed completely.
He's not our Republican Speaker of the House.
He's the Democrat Speaker of the House.
And he's doing a better job than Hakeem Jeffries.
Actually, if I had it my way, we would have been successful in our objection on January 6th, and he wouldn't even be
president.
Okay, so if you had magically had your way and overthrown the Constitution of the United States and how state
certification efforts work, Donald Trump...
Forget about whether people in our district like this.
Maybe they do.
Do you think this is not going to be a national issue for Republicans?
Democrats make it the focus of their campaign to find the most radical Republican and then smear every Republican with that person.
And you know what helps in that effort?
A dumbass rule negotiated by Kevin McCarthy to allow for one person to challenge the Speaker.
So Marjorie Taylor Greene has done that.
And she's setting up the math such that if she challenges him that he will have to rely on the votes of Democrats in order to get him over the hump.
To which I say, he should do it anyway.
Because either Mike Johnson is going to run the house, or Marjorie Taylor Greene is going to run the house.
And then, if Marjorie Taylor Greene runs the house, then Hakeem Jeffries is going to run the house.
That's just how this is going to go.
If the Chaos Caucus decides that they are the ones in charge, if they are the captain now, then this ship is sinking, and it's sinking right quick.
She says that he's the Democrat Speaker of the House.
He's worse than Akeem Jeffries.
We're going to find out if she has her way, because Akeem Jeffries will be Speaker of the House if she has her way, which is why I've been encouraging all week long the Speaker of the House to simply nuke this rule.
This rule needs to go away.
You cannot allow yourself to be held hostage by a group of people who have no interest in governing, who do not know what the role of the legislature actually is, who seem to think that they are up for a slot On R-S-B-N?
Like a nighttime guest slot every night?
Their entire M.O.
is to just get on networks and say things?
Again, the job of people like me is to say where Republicans stray from principle and where they meet principle.
The job of Republican legislatures is to get the best deal they can.
That is not the same job.
The fact that Republican caucuses decided to cave to a bunch of social media faux-legislators is incredibly silly.
It's really dumb.
Now, of course, that's not universal to the Republican side.
Democrats have done this too.
They've decided they're basically going to let the squad drive the boat.
The Hamas squad is now driving the boat in the Democratic Party.
This is why Joe Biden, once again, clean up on aisle Biden.
So Joe Biden did an interview, as you mentioned earlier in the show, with Unificion.
That was last week.
This interview was done immediately in the aftermath of the World Central Kitchen tragedy in which Israel accidentally struck a World Central Kitchen convoy and killed seven people.
In the middle of the war.
And Joe Biden, in this interview, says that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, is quote-unquote, making a mistake on Gaza, and then he says he wants a six- to eight-week ceasefire without any hostage release.
There are five American hostages still being held.
I know that we're supposed to not give a crap about that for some odd reason.
I know we're supposed to care deeply about Evan Gerskowitz, the journalist from the Wall Street Journal, being held in captivity by the Russians.
I know that we're gonna spend... We're gonna let actual...
Terror masters go free in order to regain the possession of Brittany Griner, a WNBA player.
But these are five American hostages who happen to be Jewish, so apparently Joe Biden didn't care about that, and he's not going to mention it in any way, shape, or form.
Or at the very least, Gershkowitz is Jewish, but he's being held by Russia.
So he hates Russia because he thinks Russia is linked to Donald Trump or some such.
In any case, here is Joe Biden basically just taking Hamas's position.
The wingnuts have captured the Democratic Party.
I think what he's doing is a mistake.
I don't agree with his approach.
I think it's outrageous that those three vehicles were hit by drones and taken out on a highway where it wasn't like it was along the shore, it wasn't like there was a convoy moving here, etc.
So what I'm calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire Allow for the next six, eight weeks total access to all food and medicine going into the country.
I've spoken with everyone from the Saudis to the Jordanians to the Egyptians.
They're prepared to move in.
They're prepared to move this food in.
And I think there's no excuse to not provide for the medical and the food needs of those people.
They should be done now.
Okay, so in other words, he wants Israel to simply cease fire and not kill any more Hamas terrorists, not go into Rafah, not do anything for six to eight weeks.
And in return, Israel would get nothing.
That is what he is saying.
Hamas would be left in place.
Hamas could get aid.
Hamas steals that aid, of course.
We'll get to more on this in a second.
First, it's no secret that our healthcare system is, you know, a subject of considerable debate.
If you've watched the news, you know U.S.
pharmacies are not only running out of basic antibiotics, but also the current wait time to see a doctor can now be up to four weeks.
I can't imagine a more helpless feeling than somebody in the family getting sick while a supply chain issue or a doctor's waitlist kept them from getting the medication they need.
Thankfully, my family has a medical emergency kit from the wellness company.
It's like having a 24-7 pharmacy.

The White House had to clean this up yesterday.
They flatly denied a shift in policy after Biden called on Israel to agree to a six to eight week ceasefire.
According to a White House official, quote, there is no change in our position.
The president was reiterating our longstanding position.
We are calling for an immediate ceasefire that would last for at least six weeks as part of a hostage deal.
And now, of course, he didn't say anything about the hostages there because they're lying.
He's been captured by his radical left, and they don't want to admit that he's been captured by his radical left, so they're trying to walk that back to suggest that actually the White House wants this as part of a hostage deal.
There's only one problem.
When you say this sort of stuff, Hamas knows it has you by the short hairs, which is why they are refusing every ceasefire deal offered to them right now.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Israel and Hamas on Tuesday were considering a new U.S.
proposal for a ceasefire in the war on Gaza and the freeing of some hostages still held by the militant group.
But mediators cautioned the two sides remain far from a deal.
And in fact, every time the media report that they're close to a deal, Hamas then kills the deal.
Why?
Because they know that if they just retain pressure on Joe Biden, Joe Biden will cave.
His entire party continues to clamor for him to cave to Hamas and leave them in place.
Here is Senator Tim Kaine, former forgotten vice presidential candidate under Hillary Clinton, saying that the United States should cease all offensive aid to Israel.
They should just give them defensive weaponry like Iron Dome or something.
But they shouldn't give them enough ammunition to, you know, kill members of Hamas.
I have also urged the president in delivery of aid to Israel to restrict it to defensive weapons.
Israel has to defend itself against Hamas, against Iran, against Hezbollah, against the Houthis, against militias.
Let's help them defend themselves.
But there are weapons that are primarily offensive in nature and we should hold those back.
We should hold back offensive weaponry.
Great strategy against the terror group.
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi, she's doing this routine.
The usual Democratic routine when it comes to legislation on anything is, there has to be an answer.
There has to be a better way.
They say this about guns all the time.
Well, you know, I don't know how to solve it, but there has to be something we can do.
So now she's doing this with regard to war-making policy.
The United States and the West will never win another war with this kind of logic.
Ever, ever, for the rest of time.
Because it turns out, when it comes to war, there is no better way.
There is no clean way to wage war.
There is no clean way to wage war, particularly when you are granting an incentive to the enemy to hide among women and children, because the minute they do, they are calling safety.
Here is Nancy Pelosi.
Look, October 7th was barbaric.
It was horrible, what they did to the Israeli people and the rest.
Hamas is a terrorist organization.
We need to free the hostages, all of the hostages.
But nearly 33,000 people dying, people starving, hydration, famine, and the rest.
There has to be a better way.
Israel has the best record of terrorist to civilian kill ratio, because they don't want to kill civilians, they're trying to minimize it, of any modern army in the history of warfare.
It doesn't matter.
Nancy Pelosi is still calling for this.
And Joe Biden is captured by the swing of his party.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has to straddle this peculiar line, because as it turns out, it actually is not in America's interest to watch Hamas win.
So Lloyd Austin, our rather dull Secretary of Defense, He even said yesterday there's no evidence Israel is committing a genocide because Israel is of course not committing a genocide contrary to idiots on all sides of the aisle who seem to not understand the meaning of words.
I swear every time we talk about people who say that Israel is committing a genocide I feel like Inigo Montoya in Princess Bride.
I do not think that word means what you think it means.
Words have definitions.
You don't care about the definitions.
You're just looking to hit Israel with the slander that they are doing to others what was done to them during the Holocaust.
There's some such absolute tripe and garbage.
Here is Tom Cotton questioning the Secretary of Defense.
I want to address what the protesters raised earlier.
Is Israel committing genocide in Gaza?
Senator Cotton, we don't have any evidence of genocide being created.
That's a no.
Israel is not committing genocide in Gaza.
We don't have evidence of that.
Thank you.
Again, this is not a hard answer.
The fact that he has to kind of struggle for the words is pretty incredible.
Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader, he points out that Joe Biden has indulged his radical base.
America cannot afford to lose moral clarity about the conflict.
But I'm afraid that too many of our leaders are.
President Biden expressed outrage at last week's deadly accident, an event his own administration acknowledged was a tragic accident, which begs the question of whether he's also outraged at the way Israel's terrorist aggressors violate international law by turning hospitals and schools into fighting positions.
Instead of welcoming Israel's swift Investigation and efforts to hold personnel accountable for their mistakes, accountability that has been sorely lacking during President Biden's own administration, the President caved further to domestic political pressure.
He indulged his radical base and called for an immediate ceasefire.
That, of course, is exactly correct, which is why Iran is just holding steady at this point.
They figure, why do anything?
We've got Biden exactly where we want him.
I mean, well, again, I have a hard time knowing whether to attribute Democrats' moral blindness to true moral corruption or just stupidity.
It makes it harder when many of the morally blind are also just plain stupid.
Sheila Jackson Lee had the quote of the day yesterday and probably for the month.
This is the quality of person that we elect to Congress now.
Sometimes you've heard the word full moon.
over the place. This is the quality of person representative Sheila Jackson Lee.
She's been in Congress by the way for a very long time, Sheila Jackson Lee.
She is from Texas, the 18th district over there. Here she was explaining the moon.
Sometimes you've heard the word full moon. Sometimes you need to take the
opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is that complete rounded
circle which is made up mostly of gases. And that's why the question the question
is why or how could we as humans live on the moon.
Are the gases such that we could do that?
The sun is a mighty powerful heat that is almost impossible to go near the sun.
The moon is more manageable and you will see in a moment, or not a moment, you'll see in a couple of years that NASA is going back to the moon.
Oh, she's putting on her glasses.
Having some trouble here putting on those glasses.
Oh, wow.
Okay, she can't get the glasses on.
She's trying, she doesn't have them over her eyes.
She's got them over, like, the bottom of her nose.
It's like watching my four-year-old trying to put on glasses.
My goodness.
Like, that's not where glasses go, lady.
They're not over your nose.
And then she's looking up in the sky with the glasses over her nose.
What is happening right now?
Glasses are, they're not...
They're not supposed to block the sun from hitting your smell sense.
She just cannot get this on her face.
I mean, this is continuing, by the way.
Okay, this clip is continuing.
She cannot get the glasses on her eyes.
She put it on her nose.
No, you think it's on?
Wrong.
You think that she's got it on her eyes?
Wrong.
She actually then ends up walking away from the podium, still with the glasses not on her eyes.
This is the level of intelligence that we have staffing our country.
She's been in Congress since 1995, gang.
She's been in Congress for almost 20 years.
Sorry, she's been in Congress for almost 30 years.
Clearly, her constituents love this level of stupidity.
Yeah, our country might get what it deserves.
Alrighty, coming up, we'll get into the White House commenting on the Pope being a Catholic.
Yeah, that's a thing now.
