[00:00:00]  Life is beginning to feel like a movie.
[00:00:14]  I was playing the leading role until I felt overshadowed.
[00:00:19]  So on a cold winter day in January, I took a trip to find myself.
[00:00:26]  At the airport, a huge screen overhead being the message about International Holocaust Day.
[00:00:33]  As I walked to my gate, the message kept assaulting me, monitor after monitor.
[00:00:39]  I thought, what the hell does the Holocaust have to do with Homeland Security?
[00:00:45]  Well, I said to myself, it's a geo-operation through and through.
[00:00:51]  Well, I needed some relief.
[00:00:53]  I got on the plane and straightaway signed up for the movies.
[00:00:58]  At the slip of my finger, Shiva Baby came up.
[00:01:04]  It reminded me of growing up Jewish.
[00:01:07]  Jewish American princesses, synagogues, rabbis, teachers, big mockers, Rosh Hashanah, dresser uppers, lots of neurotic Jews.
[00:01:17]  The movie simply reeked of Jews.
[00:01:20]  In real time, the woman sitting next to me on the plane was Jewish.
[00:01:26]  She didn't like me eating goldfish crackers so slowly, so methodically, so strategically that she began to twitch.
[00:01:35]  I knew it was coming.
[00:01:37]  She turned to me and said, Sir, please put your mask on.
[00:01:42]  I told her I was actively eating.
[00:01:46]  She called for assistance.
[00:01:48]  The flight attendant came up and scolded me that I must put my mask on in between bites of the goldfish.
[00:01:57]  The Jew won. I made it to LaGuardia Airport and booked a room in downtown Manhattan.
[00:02:05]  I took a walk in Central Park.
[00:02:08]  A tall man was jogging toward me who looked familiar.
[00:02:12]  It was Richard Haass of the Council of Foreign Relations.
[00:02:18]  I saw him on Morning Joe the day before.
[00:02:22]  It was playing on the overhead screen at the hotel restaurant at breakfast.
[00:02:28]  After he passed me, I entered into a mental scene where I was being interviewed on Morning Joe.
[00:02:35]  It was like a movie.
[00:02:37]  I was the star of the show.
[00:02:41]  Now, in my flight to find myself, I found that walking around Manhattan reminded me when I was a Jewish kid.
[00:02:50]  My Jewish parents had a children's clothing store and would go to the clothing shows in Manhattan twice a year.
[00:02:58]  It was a very white city back then in the 50s and 60s.
[00:03:04]  Once, while there as a kid, I bought a pretzel at a corner stand.
[00:03:10]  A truck driver yelled out from the next street, Hey kid, how do you like that pretzel?
[00:03:17]  It was like a movie.
[00:03:20]  I had an audience, and I was the star of the show.
[00:03:26]  I then booked a flight to Washington, D.C., and the place was a ghost town.
[00:03:32]  I guessed everyone was working remotely COVID-style.
[00:03:37]  So I went back to my room and turned on the TV. Jackie Schumer came on!
[00:03:46]  As a newly elected senator, I was the first senator to march in the gay pride parade.
[00:03:55]  In 2019, I was the first senator as a proud parent of a gay couple to march with my daughter and her wife in the Grey Pride Parade.
[00:04:08]  I wanted to throw up and clicked off.
[00:04:11]  I clicked on a movie instead.
[00:04:14]  What the hell is this?
[00:04:16]  I said to myself.
[00:04:18]  I mean, Saul and Ruby's Holocaust Survivor Band?

[00:06:16]  I took a shower and felt like I needed a movie.
[00:06:20]  The nearby Jewish community center was showing a movie called Gold Star.
[00:06:25]  It was about a secularized teenage Jewish girl who, after a one-night stand with a Goyesha boy after a party, discovers later that she's pregnant.
[00:06:37]  Feeling guilty, she decides to become an orthodox Jew and started going through all the motions.
[00:06:44]  She subjected her female self to rabbinic authority and domination.
[00:06:49]  Now that she's in traditional Judaism, she feels she can better decide what to do with the child.
[00:06:57]  Abort the fetus or keep it?
[00:07:00]  The movie ended weirdly.
[00:07:02]  In an arranged marriage scenario, she's introduced to a young rabbi.
[00:07:07]  He soon sets a wedding date, yet has no idea she's pregnant.
[00:07:12]  The nouveau-religious Jewish girl doesn't divulge her pregnancy, nor disclose having sexual coitus with a goy to her future mate.
[00:07:22]  The rabbi. That's how the movie ends.
[00:07:25]  Strange. At movie's completion, a discussion followed complete with tea and pastry.
[00:07:31]  It centered around whether the girl should have aborted the child or give birth to the child after marrying the rabbi.
[00:07:40]  Aborting a child was the consensus since the girl was having emotional cogitations about it all.
[00:07:48]  That would have been the best, said most of the Jews.
[00:07:52]  Not the boring would be okay, a few said, because the child would be Jewish since Jews trace racial lineage from the mother.
[00:08:03]  A religious Jew in the discussion pointed out that having the child after marriage would lead to divorce since Talmudic law forbids marrying a deflowered girl.
[00:08:15]  Most during the discussion said she should keep her mouth shut if she did decide to marry and have the child once married.
[00:08:25]  I chimed in. Once the rabbi sees that the kid looks like a goy, he would be very suspicious and get the shmilkies in his pants.
[00:08:36]  I was instantly rebuked.
[00:08:38]  The kid would most likely look like his mother, a snotty Jewish girl snapped at me, so the rabbi would think it's his kid and all would be kosher.
[00:08:52]  I walked out.
[00:08:54]  This is a Jewish movie through and through, I thought to myself, full of carnality, fraudulent and superficial religiosity with guilt-tripping deceit.
[00:09:06]  I stopped going to movies since then.
[00:09:08]  I don't need to.
[00:09:10]  It's a Jewish world through and through.
