A Message To The BackSliders - FOJC Monday

Good evening, everybody, and welcome to FOJC Radio Friday Night Live.
We're live, live, live on a Friday night, and I'm so thankful for each and every one of you joining us for the broadcast.
There's some new people joining us for the first time, as almost every Friday night.
We want to welcome our new listeners to FOJC.
We're very thankful that you're checking us out to see what we're all about.

Into the presence of the Lord to study the Word of God.
That's what we do here.
We major in strong doctrine and the Word of God, as you all know, because that's what we need.
The Word of God is our great need.
So that's what we do.
Praise God.

Father in Jesus name.
We want to lift Brent up to you and we want to pray for Brent that you'll just touch him physically give him that healing touch that he needs in Jesus name and father.

We just pray that That healing anointing be upon her by the stripes that was upon your back.
Touch her now by the mighty power of your Holy Spirit.
Just touch her now, Lord, in Jesus' name.
And we also want to pray for Sherry Campbell's son.
Father, in Jesus' name, touch that young man right now.
Just let your healing touch be upon him.
Father, we just pray that you just lift up Sherry.
And just give her strength to be able to do all that she needs to do.
And Father, for this broadcast this evening, just help me to bring forth that which you would have me to.
And Lord, just take it and use it for the glory of your body.

All right.
Our message for this evening is entitled, A Message to Backsliders.
And backsliders is something that has just been done away with.
You don't hear a message to backsliders because there's no such thing according to the modern, to the majority of the modern American evangelical church, and the same is true, I know, whatever part of the world you're listening from.
That it's once saved, always saved.
If you're born again, like Charles Stanley says, there are some Christians that show no evidence of it at any time, which is a little contrary to 2 Corinthians 5.17.
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he's a new creature.
Old things are passed away.
Behold, all things are become new.
So we're going to look at the Word of God, a message to backsliders.
Backsliding is real.
It's a biblical topic, and we're going to deal with it this morning.
Very, very important.
Matthew chapter 7, and we're going to look at verses 13 and 14.
Enter ye in at the straight gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.
Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
And it's most simplistic understanding is that most people are going to go to hell.
That's just it.
Most people are going to go to hell.
Most people that, and we're just not talking about most people that aren't saved, but most people that say they're born again are going to go to hell by far the greatest majority.
That doesn't have to be the case.
It doesn't have to be the case with anybody.
But yet, Jesus said it's a fact.
Many people are going to go through that broad gate, very few through the narrow.
So we need to make sure, like the Scripture says, examine yourself, whether you be in the faith in 2 Corinthians 13.
Now, I want to read from A. M. Hills, and he puts it very well here.
He says, The children of Israel backslid under the very shadow of Sinai in sight of the pillar of fire and cloud, and the leadership of the greatest of earth's heroes, the man of God, they backslid again at Kadesh on the borders of Canaan.
And exhausted the patience of God, the whole generation turned back into the wilderness to die outside the promised land.
It's amazing, the miracles.
I mean, part in the Red Sea, for goodness sake, leading them with a pillar of fire and a cloud.
I mean, it's amazing the miracles that God did.
Fed them with manna from heaven.
Yet Israel backslid and turned against God and snuffed their nose at His holy law.
And is it any different today?
Most of them went to hell.
They didn't have to, but most of them did.
The same is true in the day and hour we live.
By far the greatest majority of people that profess to be Christians, they are going to go to hell.
You can certify that upon the words of Christ.
Brother Hills goes on.
Three months before his death, John Wesley wrote to Adam Clark, quote, to retain the grace of God, is much more than to gain it.
Hardly one in three does this.
Now Mr. Wesley, and of course that was Mr. Wesley's opinion, but he said of those that come and profess Christ, only one in three are going to make it.
Jesus said, he that endureth unto the end, the same shall be saved.
It's time for a real sober assessment.
Backsliding has been eliminated as a biblical subject, but yet backsliding is in the Word of God.
And I believe that if anything, Brother Wesley was overstating the case.
I wish we had one out of three that profess salvation, that would really endure into the end, bear good fruit, and labor to bring four souls into the kingdom.
In Jeremiah chapter 3, And verse 22, Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.
Behold, we come unto thee, for thou art the Lord our God.
Return!
That is the message to backsliding children, and I think that there's none of us That has not backslid.
There's none of us that have not started out on the Christian life, but have gone back and started going the wrong direction.
But that's the call from the Lord.
It's not His heart.
Okay, you've messed up.
I want to smash you and eradicate you.
That's not the Lord's heart.
Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding.
He will apply that spiritual ointment that is needed to turn around the ship and to turn an individual from a point where they are bringing forth no fruit for God To the point where they are fruitful and effective in the kingdom of God.
I want to read something from Charles Simeon.
And Charles Simeon was a preacher in the early part of the 1800s in England.
He had some very, very commendable things about his ministry.
But this is what Mr. Simeon said.
He said the persons addressed are either mere nominal Christians or real Christians in a declining state.
The term backsliding refers to an unruly heifer that either will not at all draw in its master's yoke or that performs its work unsteadily.
It either won't put the yoke on Or if it puts the yoke on, it will not keep at its work.
You know, a lot of Christians, they start off with a bang.
They say, I'm this, I'm that, I'll do this, I'll do that.
It's kind of like that old Irish saying about the railroad conductor Flanagan.
And they had a train that got off the track, and he sent the message.
He says, off again, on again, gone again, Flanagan.
And that's the way too many people are.
They're off again, on again.
We have to be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.
And of course, it is Satan's work to turn us from that.
He wants to heal our backslidings.
He wants us to constantly be moving forward instead of backwards.
In Matthew chapter 11 and in the 29th and the 30th verses, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
A yoke is what they put an animal on an animal that's going to work.
It's a work animal.
We need to realize we're work animals for the kingdom.
As it says in the scripture, we're labors together for God.
We are here to work for the kingdom.
And Jesus says, take my yoke upon you and learn of me.
The work of the kingdom with the yoke is learning, and once we learn, we do something.
The doctrine of Christ is the most important thing in your life, because when you take the yoke of Christ upon you, you must learn of Him to be able to serve Him and follow Him in His kingdom.
Now, in the Gospel of Luke, the same illustration is used.
In Luke, the ninth chapter, And the 62nd verse, the scripture says here, And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
And it talks about someone that's plowing, and if you've got the animal hooked up, And the plows going, if you start looking around and start looking behind you, I tell you what, you're just going to be making a furrow that's everywhere.
And that's the way far too many lives is.
And that's what Satan wants to do.
He wants to turn your life into something that never accomplishes anything, but is just another confusing little furrow in the ground.
But Jesus, He wants to heal our backslidings.
He wants to bring us into the place where we can have effectiveness and see fruit in the kingdom of God.
In the prophet Hosea, Hosea the fourth chapter, and let's read verses 16 and 17, for Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer.
Now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
And Israel is pictured as a heifer that's in heat, that will not keep its mind on work.
It will not stay in the pasture where it's going to be fed.
The 23rd Psalm, the Lord is my shepherd, but we sure want to drink out of dirty puddles.
And they would not feed in the pasture of the Lord, but had to go its own way.
That's the way, and that's the exact way that Israel is looked upon like a heifer in heat.
That, you know, an animal in heat can't keep its mind on anything else, and that's the way so many people are that profess the Lord's name.
They've got something else on their mind.
There's something else that's a bigger priority or a bigger agenda for them.
Now, the 17th verse is very, very sobering, and it should be.
Right after verse 16, it says, Ephraim is joined to idols.
Let him alone.
There's a time when the Holy Spirit will say, just shut your mouth.
There's no need wasting your breath anymore.
You've done all you can do.
And this is the way that it was with Ephraim.
And that's the way that it is with backsliders.
Backsliders that are going the wrong way, the Spirit of God will call out to heal the backsliding and to turn the individual around.
But yet, if that isn't heeded, there is a time, and I don't know when that time is, only the Lord does.
I cannot say, but I can say that there is a time when people go over the line and they harden their hearts to the point where they're going to go their own way and they're not going to go the Lord's way.
And that is just a very plain fact from Scripture.
We want to look in the Gospel of Matthew.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the 25th chapter and the 5th verse, it says, while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
And this is one of the most dangerous things.
The spirit of slumber, slumbering and sleeping spiritually, I want to read something else from Charles Simeon.
He says this.
It may describe those Now, if you notice, we read from the parable of the ten virgins.
There were five wise and five foolish, but even the five wise slumbered and slept.
Notice that.
Even the wise virgins slumbered.
they're a child of God who must not acknowledge himself to have been at some time of this number.
Now, if you notice, we read from the parable of the ten virgins.

There's nobody that has been so perfect in their walk for God that they haven't slumbered, slept, and failed to execute that which God laid upon their lives.
And nobody, So the wise virgins even slumbered and slept, but yet the Lord sent the midnight call.
Brother Simeon goes on.
Who can say that he has invariably from the very first pursued the path of duty in one uniform tenor of conduct, who has not often been conscious of secret declensions and backslidings of the heart, and that which we say this evening?
We don't say from some self-righteous stone of perfection, but we say it from the throne of grace, for the Lord God calls out to heal the backslidings of His people.
We want to let you know that the Lord is calling this evening.
He's calling to bring back his erring children, to bring back his wise virgins that are slumbering and sleeping, to let us know the day and the hour.
There's never been a time when Satan has had as much going for him as he does in this hour.
He has never had more power, and his power, I believe, is growing exponentially.
And I believe that we're heading toward that time of the release of the Restrainer, But let me tell you what, all that the devil can do, the Word of God says, greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
The devil wants to destroy the work of God, nothing less than that.
The devil wants to destroy the people of God.
But we will stand strong, not in our own strength, but in Jesus' holy name.
We have to understand the heart of the Lord in this matter.
The Lord's standards are high.
The Lord's standards are high, but yet his heart is large, and his heart is merciful.
In Ezekiel 18, verse 23, Have I any pleasure at all?
that the wicked should die, saith the Lord God, and not that he should return from his ways and live.
He has a heart, doesn't want anyone to die.
He doesn't want anyone to perish.
His call is out to the backslider to come home and walk in his ways and to follow after the Lord.
In Romans, the 10th chapter, Romans chapter 10, and this is the effectiveness And the power, that's why we put out the Word of God each and every broadcast, because it's the Word of God that will put faith in you, that will put you on the right path.
Romans chapter 10, beginning in verse 14, How then shall they call on him whom they have not believed?
And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher?
That's our job.
Our job to lift up the glorious gospel, the doctrine of Christ and the commandments of God.
And how shall they preach except they be sent as it is written?
How beautiful are the feet of them that bring the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things.
But they have not at all obeyed the gospel.
For Isaiah saith to them, Lord, who have believed our report, so then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
It is the word of God.
That is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword.
It's the Word of God that will not return vain.
It is the Word of God that we put out, the power of the Gospel.
I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, unto the Jew first, and also unto the Greek.
Charles Simeon said this, And whenever the word is applied with power to our souls, the same effect will be visible on us.
We shall no longer keep at a distance from God, but return to Him with our whole hearts.
And that's what the Lord wants this evening.
He just wants us to return unto Him with our whole hearts.
All it takes is the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
All it takes is a little humility.
You know, a lot of times it's the The most hard thing for an, well it is the most hard thing for an individual to do, to admit they were wrong, that they took a wrong step, but yet this is what the Lord asks us to do.
He just asks for a little humility and walking in faith in that which the Lord will have us to do.
I want to read again from the prophet Hosea in the second chapter And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them, and she shall seek them, but not find them.
Then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband, for then was it better with me than now.
And this speaks of a remnant that will return.
There'll be a remnant that will be faithful.
There's like the prodigal son that wouldn't even eat the husks that were fed to the swine.
He wouldn't eat the swine or even the husks that were fed to them, even as the prodigal son And this is the thing.
Many people are going to realize how good God is.
They're going to realize and understand that God's law is not something that is there to try to keep good things for us, from us, but God's law is there to enable us to enjoy good things.
The truly good things of life and the truly good blessings of the Lord, that is the way when we take upon ourselves the yoke of the doctrine of Christ and the commandments of God.
God will heal your backsliding.
2 Corinthians in the 5th chapter and the 14th verse, For the love of Christ constraineth us Because we thus judge that if one died for all, then we're all dead.
The love of Christ constrains us, and that means the love of Christ, it moves us, and it takes hold of us, and it causes us to do that which the Lord would have us to do.
And it is truly the love of God that will melt our hearts.
It's God's love.
At a time When we are going away, going in the wrong way, it's that love of Christ.
Brother Simeon said this, The love of Christ has a constraining power, which, if not irresistibly, yet invincibly impels us to live unto Him.
Let it once be shed abroad in our hearts, and we shall instantly exclaim with rapture, My Lord and my God, what have I to do any more with idols?
Will we make mention of thy name?
"of our souls.
"We shall feel a holy indignation at the thought "of having so long provoked the Lord to jealousy "and shall address him in the language "of his repenting people.
"Other lords besides thee have had dominion over us, "but by thee only will we make mention of thy name." It is the love of God that constrains us.
It is the love of God that will bring us back.
In 2 Peter 2, one of the biggest lies, and boy, the devil's got a lot of them, and he's got a lot of people spreading them.
2 Peter 2:19-20, "While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption." And this is the thing.
So many people, they say there's liberty.
You don't have to live by God's law.
That law's passed away.
You don't have to worry about anything.
You don't have to worry about keeping the Sabbath.
You don't have to worry about clean and unclean.
You don't have to worry about any of that.
There's liberty!
That is not liberty.
That is nothing but license to sin.
The true freedom is freedom not to sin.
When you have real freedom, you have power in Christ not to sin and to choose to serve God.
That's what real freedom is.
You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
And it won't set you free, and what it sets you free from there on the eighth chapter of John is from sin.
And that's always what these false teachers does.
The Apostle Peter nails it.
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption.
For of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, And overcome the latter, and is worse with them than the beginning.
Now you tell me if you think this sounds like once saved, always saved.
Here we go, verse 21.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than after they had known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
But it happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
And I make repeated references to the once-saved-always-saved doctrine Because this is one of the biggest, that was the first devil's, the lie out of the devil's mouth, ye shall not surely die.
This teaching has done away with backsliding.
There is no backsliding.
The majority of people in the American Evangelical Church believe this satanic lie, and for this reason, nothing I say this evening would penetrate their hearts or their consciousness, because there is no such thing as backsliding.
It doesn't matter what you do.
And you think they don't say that?
They absolutely do that.
I could bring in a stack of books to show you that is what they say.
This is a damnable doctrine that'll send more people to hell than the Jehovah Witnesses will.
There's just no doubt about that.
We cannot remain silent.
When we put out the call to backsliders, people have to return from false doctrine and to stop lifting up doctrines that are clearly contrary.
To the doctrine of Christ.
Brother Simeon said this, and this is so good.
While casting off the restraints of God's law.
And that's always what it is.
Sin is always the problem and sin is the transgression of the law.
And always these people that promise you liberty say the law doesn't matter.
100% of the time.
That's what it's all about.
We might as well say it like it is and get down to it.
This is where the rubber hits the road.
This is where people will divide between the broad way and the narrow way, right here.
So people are going to have to decide.
While casting off the restraints, going on here with Brother Simeon, while casting off the restraints of God's law, And following the dictates of your own will, you conceive yourselves to be enjoying perfect liberty.
But such liberty is the sorest bondage, a subjection to sin, is a vassalage most abject in its nature and most fatal in its consequences.
Would to God that the slaves of sin would reflect a moment what master they are serving and what wages they are likely to receive.
Soon would they then cast off the yoke with which their lusts have imposed and seek for freedom in the service of their God.
Awake, ye deluded sinners, and return to him whose yoke is easy.
And whose burden is light.
Let us turn to the mercy of God as this word goes out this evening.
Let it fall upon the ears of the humble and the repentant that realize that they have fallen short and that they need to change.
They need to stand where the Lord says that they need to stand.
The call is going out.
The altar call of the mercy seat is going out.
Run to the mercy seat this morning because there stands the Lord Omnipotent reigneth to heal your backslidings and put that within you that will give you the grace not only for forgiveness but for the strength to endure.
Only that strength from the throne will enable us to stand.
Let's go to the book of Hebrews.
In the book of Hebrews, the 10th chapter, Hebrews chapter 10 and the 22nd verse, the scripture says this, let us draw near with the true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
We draw near to God.
Having the blood applied, the cleansing blood to draw us into the presence of God, we can come boldly before the throne of grace, the book of Hebrews tells us, in Hebrews chapter 14 and verse 4.
I will heal their backslidings, I will love them freely, for mine anger is turned away from him.
Yes, God's anger is against the wicked, but the moment you turn, God will heal your backsliding and his anger will be turned away from you.
He stands full of mercy, ready to forgive, extending his call to the backslider this evening.
Truly this is A message to the backslider this evening.
In James, the 4th chapter, in the book of James, the 4th chapter, and we want to read verse 8.
Draw an eye to God, and he will draw an eye to you.
Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, And purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
That's all that we have to do.
We just have to return to the Lord and make up our mind.
It's just like this in the Scripture, in 1 Corinthians chapter 15.
And in the 58th verse, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord forasmuch as ye know.
That your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Unmovable, like a tree that's planted by the rivers of water.
There's that old hymn, we used to sing it.
I remember back when I was in the Church of God, we used to sing that old hymn, I shall not be moved.
And that's what our attitude's gotta be.
We cannot be moved.
We cannot be moved.
Now, we wanna thank a little bit About the example of lot.
And it's time for all of us to take a drink of coffee.
So I'm going to take a drink of coffee here.
So it's time for everybody.
Time to take a drink of coffee.
Grease your gizzard just a little bit.
Mighty fine.
Mighty fine there in my midnight ride rambler cup.
Praise God.
All right, Matthew chapter 6 and verse 24, and we're going to think a little bit about Lot.
And the bottom line with Lot, and I think the bottom line with about every backslider, it's about self, It's about self-will, it's about the easy road, it's about money, and it's about going the way that's going to do the most for me.
Matthew 6 and 24, no man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other.
Ye cannot serve God and man and can't do it.
There's only one master we can serve, the Lord Jesus Christ.
It has to be His yoke upon us.
The yoke and learn of Him, of the doctrine of Christ.
Jesus said in the Great Commission, to teach them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
If you're not doing that, if you have not taken the yoke of the doctrine of Christ upon you, there's no way that you can even fulfill the Great Commission.
It's an absolute impossibility.
According to the Scriptures.
Now let's go to the book of Genesis, and let's go to the 13th chapter, Genesis chapter 13, and we're going to think a little bit about Lot, and we're going to read Genesis 13 and 1.
And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife, and all he had, and Lot went with him unto the south.
And Abraham joined himself, or Lot joined himself unto Abraham.
But what you'll find, and what I've found is too, But there are a lot of people that will join themselves to you for various reasons, and their heart is not really with the Lord.
That is the way that it was with Lot and Abraham.
He joined himself with Abraham, but it didn't take long for him to start looking around.
Down in verse 12 of chapter 13, Abraham dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom, and there's a progression here.
He didn't stay steadfast with Abraham.
He pitched his tent toward Sodom, and it isn't long before pitching the tent toward Sodom that Down in verse 12 of Genesis 14, it says, "And they took Lot," or excuse me, I want to read verse 12, 13:12.
Now I want to read 14:12 in Genesis.
And they took Lot, Abraham's brother, who dwelt in Sodom.
And they took Lot, Abraham's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
So now, pitching your tent towards Sodom, now you're dwelling in Sodom.
There's a progression there.
This doesn't happen all at once.
People backslide.
by little bitty steps.
They baby step into backsliding.
They let down their doctrinal stance on this.
They give in.
They let down their standards.
This doesn't matter.
That doesn't matter.
It's okay for me to do this.
Okay for me to do that.
And the devil will be there cheering you on every step of the way.
If you just pitch your tent towards Sodom, it won't be long before you'll be dwelling in Sodom.
And this had an effect upon Lot, It has an effect of each and every one of us.
We live in a very wicked world.
We live in a world that's wicked.
We live in a world that is not friendly to those that really want to serve Jesus Christ.
If you'll just say that you're a Christian and you'll go along with all the programs of the world, the devil will wake you up on Sunday morning just so you won't be late for church.
But if you will stand where God stands and will not budge, all the hordes of hell will be released against you.
But it does not matter, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
Praise God.
And in 2 Peter chapter 2 verse 7 and 8, And delivered just Lot Unlawful deeds means law-breaking deeds.
Yes, it does.
of the wicked.
For that righteous man dwelling among them in seeing and hearing vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds.
Unlawful deeds means law-breaking deeds.
Yes, it does.
How many of you are vexed each and every day you live with the conversation of the wicked that does nothing but take the name of our Lord in vain?
That does nothing but mock the Bible.
Does nothing but lift up wickedness.
It will vex you.
It will vex you.
It will trouble you.
And it's a dangerous thing.
It's a very dangerous thing to pitch your tent towards Sodom.
Because it won't be long before you'll be living in Sodom.
And in Genesis chapter 19 and verse 16, it got so bad.
This is the mercy of God.
And while he lingered, the man laid hold upon his hand.
This is talking about Lot and the angels.
The Lord told Lot to get out of Sodom.
He lingered, and the angels of God had to go grab him and jerk him out.
And while he lingered, the man laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters, and the Lord being merciful unto him, and they brought him forth and set him without the city.
The Lord was so merciful, he sent an angel to take Lot by the hand and take him out of there.
Now, I can't promise you that the Lord is going to send you an angel and rescue you when you're living in Sodom and you're so in love with it that you can't tear yourself away.
There will be some, and this is according to the Word of God, there's some that want, and I don't know why, But that's what he did, but I know there will be some and there will be many and there will be most that will pitch their tent towards Sodom, live in Sodom, dwell there, and they will die and go to hell with Sodom.
And when the bombs hit and the fire comes and the judgment of God, you're going to go down with it.
And according to the words of Jesus, there will be more that will go to hell and perish than there will be that will be saved.
But I can promise you this, that God will not let you go to hell without a witness against your heart, without the Spirit of God coming to you and saying, repent and turn.
I love you.
I will heal your backslidings.
I'm calling out to you from the throne of grace this evening to turn away from your wickedness and to come back.
Come back and I will heal your backslidings.
That is the call.
And that call, when that comes, there are people right now that are hearing the words of my voice.
It's as strong in your heart as if an angel would take you by the hand.
The Spirit of God is calling you out of Sodom and to come back to heal your backslidings and to come back to serving the Lord Omnipotent.
And we know the story.
We know the story of Lot's wife.
The Lord sent an angel to take Lot, and more than one, to take Lot and his family by the hand and get them out of there.
If he wouldn't have, they would have all perished there.
And all they ask, don't look back.
Don't look back.
And of course we know, In the words of Jesus, Luke 17, verse 31 and 32, And that day he which shall be upon the housetop and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away.
And he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
This is speaking about the time of the return of Christ in the last days, that you better not be too worried.
about your earthly possessions.
If the Lord says, run, you better be putting one little foot in front of the other.
And in verse 32, he says, remember Lot's wife.
That's a three-word verse we should all have memorized.
Luke 17 and 32, remember Lot's wife.
The curiosity And her love for Sodom, she had to turn around and look.
It's almost like you tell the little child, now, I'm gonna leave the room now, but there's the cookie jar there.
I don't want you getting in the cookie jar, you know?
The little kid's gonna just get in the cookie jar.
And that's the way Lot's wife was.
It takes the spirit of God dwelling in the hearts of individuals to override that principle of sin.
There has to be priorities that are put into place.
There have to be priorities that are honored from God.
They have to be there.
There has to be a submission to Jesus as Lord.
There has to be a submission to the doctrine of Christ and the commandments of God to live according to God's law just as much as we can.
For sin is the transgression of the law in Matthew chapter 6 and verse 33.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
Praise the Lord.
I want to read something from Jesse Penn Lewis.
She was, this book is called The War on the Saints.
And she was a part of the Welsh Revival.
And she was a part of that revival with Evan Roberts.
And Evan Roberts was a man that wasn't highly educated.
In all honesty, he could barely read and write.
But yet he was a man that was so used by God that he literally shook several nations with that.
He shook the land of Wales with that Welsh Revival and that certainly shook up many other believers and still is down through this time.
But this is something.
That from watching this revival and that move of the Spirit of God, you know, and you think, well, God can't use me.
Well, I tell you what, God chose to use a man that he couldn't hardly read and write.
Don't look for any books by him because he didn't write any books.
But yet his heart was so aflame for God that he turned a nation.
And a part of Mrs. Lewis was a part of that revival.
She was there firsthand, and this is one of the things she wrote, just observing it.
It's very, very worth listening to.
She says, the primary cause of deception and possession in surrendered believers may be condensed into one word, passivity.
If you're a born-again child of God tonight, and I know many of you are, don't think that you're bubble girl and bubble boy.
You're not.
When you do things you shouldn't, you entertain ideas and practices you shouldn't, when you let down what you could, should maintain, you are opening doors.
For the affliction of the evil one, being passive, being passive.
And she goes on to say this, that is a cessation of the active exercise in, of the will, in control over spirit, soul, and body, or either, as may be the case, it is practically a counterfeit of surrender to God.
Now, I want us to think about that.
There are so many believers that they do nothing.
And they say, well, by doing nothing, I'm surrendering to God.
That's a big deception.
That's a big deception.
That is a counterfeit surrender.
Let me read that again.
Let me just read the whole statement because it's so good.
The primary cause of possession in surrendered believers of deception and possession in surrendered believers may be condensed into one word, passivity.
That is, a cessation of the active exercise of the will and control over spirit, soul, and body, or either, as may be the case, it is practically A counterfeit of surrender to God.
Counterfeit surrender.
Well, I'll do nothing.
I'll do nothing, and therefore I guess they think if they do nothing, they won't do anything wrong.
But that is just a counterfeit surrender.
In the book of Revelation 3.16, and these are the words of Jesus, these are the doctrine of Christ, just as much As when he was upon the earth in the Gospels, this is the words of the risen Christ of the Apostle John, Revelation 3, verse 16.
So then, because thou art lukewarm, many lukewarm people, they surrender and they think, well, I'll do nothing, therefore I'm surrendering to God.
No, the Bible says that if you are lukewarm, And neither cold nor hot I will spew thee out of my mouth.
Most religious assemblies, they will give the impression that lukewarm's okay.
You know, lukewarm is okay.
Lukewarm doesn't matter.
But lukewarm is spewed out according to Jesus.
I want to read from Charles Spurgeon.
His sermon on lukewarmness?
He said if a man be an infidel, openly profane, known to have no connection with Christ and His cause, let him do what he may, he brings no scandal.
He is no fear of God before his eyes.
He is in open enmity against the Most High, and therefore, though he is rebellious and wicked, full of sedition and blasphemy, yet he does not compromise the dignity of God.
But when the lukewarm professor of Christianity goes forth before ungodly men, they say, this man pretends to be a child of God.
He professes to have been washed in the blood of Christ.
He stands before us and challenges our observation as one who declares that he is a new creature in Christ Jesus.
He tells us that he is the workmanship of the Holy Ghost, that he has been begotten again into a lively hope of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Now, whatever that man does, the world considers his acts to be those of a new creature in Christ Jesus.
Thus the careless worldling is lulled to sleep by the lukewarm professor.
Now, think about that.
The careless worldling, the worldling that is not Does not have faith in Christ, he many times has sent straight to hell by the lukewarm believer, and there will be.
A reckoning of the blood that is on their hands.
Let me read that again.
Thus the careless worldling is lulled to sleep by the lukewarm professor who in this respect acts the part of the siren to the sinner, playing sweet music in his ears and even helping to lurk him to the rocks.
Where he will be destroyed.
What a great thing and a worthy thing for us to meditate upon this evening.
In the book of Leviticus, Leviticus chapter 18, let's look at verses 26 through 28.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you.
For all these abominations have the men of the land done which were before you, and the land is defiled, that the land spew Not you out also when ye defile it, as it spewed out the nations that were before you.
Now, it's very interesting that in Revelation 3.16, when the Lord says that I will spew you out of my mouth, that's what it means.
I will vomit you out.
And that's just exactly the land will vomit you out.
It's amazing.
The land as well as the Lord will get so sick That there's just a physical reaction where the individual is vomited out.
It gets to where it gets to the puke point.
And there's no way.
It's just like when you're getting sick.
You feel yourself getting sicker and sicker when you get nauseated, that horrible feeling, and then you just get to the place where you wretch.
That's the way it is with God.
He'll make, people will make Him sicker and sicker and sicker, and it'll come to the point where They're just going to be wined out, just going to be spewed out.
That's why we're putting out the call this evening.
We're putting out the call to the backslider, that God will heal your backsliding, that He wants to not only forgive you, but He wants to restore you.
He wants to give you the victory in your soul, whereby you can stand.
In 2 Corinthians chapter 13 and verse 5, Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith.
Prove your own selves.
Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates.
We need to have that examination.
We need to have that examination.
We need to tell ourselves that most people are going to go to hell.
You know, most people are going to go to hell.
And with that in mind, we need to sit down and we need to have a sober examination.
In Proverbs chapter 14 and the fourth verse, 14, 14, excuse me, Proverbs 14, 14, the backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
I want to read something from Charles Finney in his revival lectures.
You talk about a book that will convict your heart, and it is so good.
And he has a thing in here, he says, what backsliding in heart is.
He says, number one, it consists in taking back that consecration to God and His service.
That constitutes true conversion.
Another place in the book of Revelation, it talks about losing your first love.
You've left your first love, and there's nothing about that conversion experience when you're born again, and there's just nothing that the Lord could ask of you that you wouldn't do.
Your heart is so full of love for the Lord that there's just no room for pride and self-will there.
Number two, and I just got on, went on to that point, it says, number two, Brother Finney says, it is the leaving by a Christian of his first love.
And that's just exactly what it is.
Number three, he says, it consists in the Christian withdrawing himself from that state of entire and universal devotion to God, which constitutes true religion and coming again under the control of a self-pleasing spirit.
Pleasing self instead of pleasing God.
And the fourth point he makes, the text implies that there may be a backslidden heart When the forms of religion and obedience to God are maintained, it's the backslider in heart.
The person might be going through religious motions, might be going to church, might be doing outwardly a lot of things, but yet he is a backslider in heart because he is just going through the motions.
The Word of God is so strong and so clear here that We just pray that the Holy Spirit speak to hearts this evening.
James chapter 4 and verse 4, Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
What a sad, sad thing.
What an unbearably sad thing to say, to think that we have actually become the enemy of God.
And you don't have to be the enemy of God.
You can turn with a humble heart.
You can turn now in Jeremiah chapter 2 and verse 19.
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee.
And thy backsliding shall reprove thee.
Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.
Oh my, what a scripture!
It's a, it's a evil thing and bitter when the fear of God leaves a person's life.
an evil thing and bitter, that my fear is not in thee.
Jeremiah, the third chapter, and the fourteenth verse.
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD, for I am married unto you, and I will take you, one of a city and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.
When you are truly a born-again child of God.
Now it's not true that Once saved, you're always saved.
But it is true that once you're saved, the Lord will not let go of you easily.
He will do everything He can.
He will chastise you.
He will take you into the woodshed.
He will speak to your heart.
He will send someone to preach a sermon on backsliders to you that something will hit your heart and wake you up.
And turn you from the way of destruction, from the broad way, to the narrow way, and the way of life.
And that is our prayer, and our heart's prayer this evening, that for all of those backsliding children, and this is a time When there's never been more in the devil's quiver than there is right now.
He has more things to confuse, divide, destroy.
He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
That's his game.
But there's never a time when the grace of God is more powerful to restore those that will come back to him with a humble and repentant heart.
And with that, I am going to close this message this evening with a humble prayer that each and every one that feels the Spirit of God tugging on the heartstrings, that you just say, God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
I want to come home like that prodigal son.
I want to repent and come home and have my backslidings healed.
