truth radio show dot com welcome everybody to the damage on the chart with radio show dot com Welcome back to the First Corinthians, uh, Comprehensive Study, Chapter 14.
So, if you missed Chapters 1 through 13, guys, please go back and watch them.
Don't worry any further, uh, so you know what's going on.
So, we are now into Chapter 14, where we do, uh, in-depth comprehensive study of the Bible, chapter by chapter.
So, like always, our Bible study approach.
Number one, before we even open the Bible, we pray for wisdom and understanding.
So let's do that right now.
Join me in a prayer to our Lord and Savior, Yeshua Messiah, Jesus Christ.
We come before you and ask you once again to please, please, please forgive us for our sins.
And, um, trespasses anything we may have committed today, and make us pure before the Father.
And thank you so much for everything.
And thank you as well, Father, we come before you to ask you to give us the Holy Spirit to write your Word, your amazing, awesome Word, uh, in today's, uh, 1 Corinthians chapter 14, upon our hearts, and give us divine wisdom and understanding.
And we thank you and love you so much, Heavenly Father.
Please protect us all from the forces of evil.
And comfort everybody that needs comfort in this time of year.
It's people getting sick and everything.
We pray that you could help them.
Heal them, Lord.
And we love you so much.
In your mighty name we pray.
Amen.
So, we read the scripture in context, because context is key.
Very important.
You're going to hear this over and over again.
Let the scripture interpret the scripture.
Don't lean on your understanding.
The Holy Spirit will help you interpret it.
So, let's begin our study here, guys, and like always, if you've got a Bible, please open it up.
If not, we've got it up on screen.
We use King James.
So, 1 Corinthians chapter 14, let's begin, and this is Paul continuing on with charity, which we already talked about last chapter.
What is charity?
Charity is pure love, which our Savior Jesus Christ has.
Has, not had, has.
So, following after charity, And desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.
So desire spiritual gifts.
And as we learned in the last chapter, these gifts here, they're going to come and go.
You're not always going to have them.
Because when you've accomplished your goal for the Lord, the Lord sent you a mission, I'm sorry.
When it's accomplished, He might let you keep them for another one.
If not, when He's done with you, they're going to be gone.
So, he's saying, follow after charity, like, in other words, have the love first.
First and foremost.
Then desire these spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue... Now, two chapters ago, we mentioned the tongues, right?
And I told you we'd get to it.
I'm sorry, I thought it was, um...
The Thessalonians, but here he talks about the tongues, explaining what tongues of God are and what tongues not of God are.
So he says, for he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men.
So if you're speaking in an unknown tongue, it could be one of two things.
If it's not of God, you can't interpret it so people don't stand and there's no interpreter, right?
As you'll learn through the rest of Scripture here and the New Testament, that people who babble these things out, if nobody's here to interpret it, it's not of God or it's just between you and the Lord.
If you are speaking directly to the Lord, it's not meant for anybody else to hear it.
That's of God, right?
As we see here.
So, again, he that speaks in an unknown tongue, that's something that people can't understand.
You're speaking stuff and nobody can understand what the heck you're saying.
That's unknown to men, right?
But unto God.
For no man understands him.
However, in the Spirit, he speaketh mystery.
But he that prophesies speaks unto men to edification, and exhortion, and comfort.
So, again, if you hear somebody, like, rambling out in tongues that he never interprets or nobody can interpret it or you can't understand, one or two things here, which, again, we'll learn later on.
Spiritual warfare, number one, and if he says, alright, this is not meant for you guys.
If he comes out and says, guys, this is not meant for you, there's a message from me and the Lord.
Or if he says that this message is for all of you, but he can't interpret it, it's not of God.
But if he says it's just between me and the Lord, yeah, it is between him and the Lord.
But he that prophesies speaks unto men to edification, and exhaustion, and comfort.
So, if it is like somebody else bursts out speaking in tongues, then he or somebody else edifies it, in other words, explains what was just said, then it's Prophesize.
Prophecy, right?
Most likely our message.
That he that speaks an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he that prophesies edifies the church.
That's what you just got done explaining.
I would that you speak with tongues, but rather that you prophesy.
For greater is he that prophesies than that he speaks with tongues.
Except for you interpret.
That the church may receive ratifying.
So in other words, let the people in the church know what you're saying.
Or what's being said.
And I hope I don't confuse everybody here.
So if you guys need further explanation, please put it in the comment section and I'll get back to you.
I just don't want to confuse people.
I just want to get this clear into people's heads.
Because this is a very important issue guys.
Because you got these chasmatic churches out there today guys.
Assembly of God churches and all these other churches that use the prosperity doctrines and everything else.
They use something called the Kundalini Spirit.
Now the Kundalini Spirit is an evil spirit.
It's a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit.
These people go around healing people, speaking in tongues, and nobody can understand what they're saying.
They do what looks like miracles, but they're not miracles.
They're works of the devil.
Because remember, Satan's got a counterfeit for everything that God teaches.
That's why we need to be wiser serpents and harmless as doves.
I know I goofed that up a couple chapters ago when I brought that up.
I apologize about that.
But yeah, wiser serpents and harmless as doves.
So again, I would rather speak with tongues.
No, no, I'm sorry, rather that you all speak with tongues, but rather you prophesy.
For great is He that prophesies than speaketh in tongues.
So he's saying it's more important to prophesy than to speak in tongues.
Because I know speaking in tongues a lot of people want to do and everything else.
I've never spoken in tongues before.
But the words bless me with prophecy.
And maybe someday it will or someday it won't, but it's not required to speak in tongues.
I know there's all these charismatic churches out there that say you're not saved until you speak in tongues.
It's not what the Bible says.
Not everybody has the gift of speaking in tongues.
As we went over the last couple chapters, I explained that everybody has different gifts.
Not everybody gets the tongues.
Not everybody gets the prophecy.
Not everybody gets the ability to heal people.
Not everybody gets the same things.
So always remember that when some church says you need to do this or that to be saved.
No, that's not how it works.
Now brethren, if I come to you with tongues, what shall I profit you?
Except I shall speak to you either by revelation or by knowledge or by prophesying or by doctrine.
What shall I profit you except No, as he was saying, if I come up to you speaking in tongues, right?
What is it going to profit you?
You see these people in the churches, right?
They come up, but I don't even know that!
Yeah, okay, what?
Alright, what does that even mean?
How is that going to profit me?
How is it going to make me gain something?
Except, he says, I shall speak to you either by revelation, give you revelation, speak peace to people with revelation or knowledge, or prophesying or doctrine.
And today we're speaking in doctrine.
That's going to profit you.
Yeah, again, speaking in tongues must be great, but these things are what you should be seeking.
Because speaking in tongues isn't going to profit people.
It's not going to help them.
This will help people when you give knowledge and revelation and prophesying to them and speak in doctrine.
That's more important.
That's what he's saying.
Because again, what is it going to profit a person?
Just speaking in tongues.
Either one, they're going to think you're a wacko.
Because half the Christians don't even understand that either.
In other words, if you come up to somebody on the street, right, and you went, blah-blah-blah-blah-blah!
They're gonna be like, whoa, okay, what are you, like, some kind of drugs or something?
Or are you possessed?
But if you come up to somebody on the street and give them revelation or knowledge or prophecy or doctrine, right?
They understand what you're saying.
They may not believe it, but they understand it.
And you gotta reach that person more by teaching them the Bible.
Reach that peace from the person more, especially with prophecy.
Prophecy is a big thing.
And doctrine is kind of the same thing, because you have prophesies.
But, description, right?
What description says.
So, and when people see these things pass, to come to pass, they're like, wow, okay, the Bible is real.
But, going up to a stranger in the middle of the street and say, hey, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
They're going to be like, yeah, call Butler, call the mental institution.
Well, my brother, before he really came into Christ, I was going to this charismatic church when I was younger, right?
And I invited him to the church.
I finally got him to go, right?
Sure enough, he walks into the church.
Some woman jumps up, starts cavorting, starts speaking in tongues.
Nobody could understand what the heck she was saying.
My brother got up and walked out, never came back.
Now, thank the Lord, he's a believer now.
Took him many years to do that, but he thought, it's like, wow, this is a bunch of wackos.
And could you blame him?
But by me sticking out to him, and all credit to God, showing him knowledge and revelation and prophesying and all that, and what the Bible says, he come to terms, like, oh yeah, this is real.
Because And especially nowadays with the things going on, guys, and anybody that's spoken Bible prophecy to you, if you deny it, you're going to be fooled.
But people are like, wow, I remember him saying that years ago.
Yeah, you were right.
And tell them, it's not me that was right, it was the Bible.
Now you got another believer in the faith.
So even things without life-giving sound, where the Piper hop, except they have distinction in the sounds.
So y'all know what a pipe sounds like, or a hop sounds like?
Yeah.
So, how shall it be known what a pipe to hop is?
For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for battle?
To battle, man.
So, distinctions in sounds.
Like I just got done explaining.
It's a big difference when somebody comes right out of nowhere, Imagine that.
Take yourself back before you were a believer.
If somebody came out of the woodwork screaming, convulsing all over the place or whatever the heck they were doing, you're going to run or punch them or something, you know what I mean?
You're going to be like, yeah, okay, go take your medications or whatever, you know, yeah.
But if somebody came out to say, listen, you see what's going on in the news?
Yeah, yeah.
Well, guess what?
This is going to happen.
How do you know that?
Because right here in the Bible it says it's going to happen, and here's how.
They're like, all right, whatever.
And they're not going to believe you, although they'll believe you.
Then when it happens, they're like, wow, all right.
Yeah, OK.
I guess the Bible is true.
That's more profitable to do these things.
And I'm not bashing tongues.
Paul isn't either.
We're not bashing tongues.
We're saying these things are more important.
So if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, because he's saying you've got to distinguish these things, right?
You know what a trumpet sounds like.
If you didn't know what a trumpet sounds like, and they sounded like, because in the war, back then, they would sound a trumpet to warn the people in the land, hey, enemies are coming, which of the wounded children will go hide in the houses, and the men will come out with their battle gear on.
So if you didn't know what a trumpet is, yeah.
And here's another one.
Volunteer firefighters.
I don't know if you live in the areas there.
They have this air raid noise.
Back in World War II when you had an air raid noise, that means you're gonna get bombed.
And people took shelter.
And shut the lights out and everything.
But yeah.
Now when you hear that noise, it means it's a volunteer fire department is calling their people.
It goes through the entire neighborhood.
So you know to get to the fire department.
Because there's an emergency.
But if you didn't know what it sounded like, you're not going to do that.
Same thing here.
If you didn't know what a trumpet sounds like, how are you going to prepare for battle?
So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood.
How shall it be known what is spoken?
For you shall speak into the air.
In other words, you're just speaking for nothing.
and one ear out the other to the people.
There are, it may be, many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
I always like to get these-- Yeah, Spanish.
Did I put that right?
Alright.
Yeah, sometimes I forget what a word means.
Because you do these videos here, sometimes you just quickly, even the easier word like this.
The act of making known, right?
Signification is the act of making known while communicating ideas to another by signs and words, and many things understood particularly by words.
All right?
So, there are and may be so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification, without understanding.
So therefore, I know not the meaning of the voice I shall be unto him that speaks a barbarian.
And he speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
In other words, yeah, like I said, gibberish.
Or a wacko.
You're like, what the heck are you saying?
Because a barbarian ain't just, you know, like, argh!
You know, and they attack people, whatever.
But yeah, in other words, like, speaking, like, you don't know what they're saying.
Even so, ye, that's you, even so you, for as much as you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to edify of the church.
Edifying of the church.
Explaining that.
Wherefore, let him that speaks an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
In other words, if I spoke in tongues and all that, and I can't understand what I'm saying, what's going on, that's just spirit communicating with God.
But right now, as it stands, it's unfruitful for us, because we don't know what that meant.
That's why he says to pray, to get understanding.
Interpret, right?
So, what is it then?
I will pray with the Spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also.
I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
Else when are you shall bless with the Spirit, how shall we occupy the womb of the unlearned say?
Amen.
And giving thanks, seeing the understanding, not what they say is.
Thank you.
So plain and simple.
If although verily give us thanks well, but the other is not edified.
In other words, is not understood.
And I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.
But yet in the church I rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
So, what Paul's just saying here, right?
Was exactly what we just talked about.
That it's better to speak 5 words of understanding to people to teach them, right?
Other than 10,000 words of an unknown tongue.
What is it going to profit you?
Just say you were new into the faith and I wanted to teach you stuff.
How are you going to learn?
What are you going to learn?
If I speak 10,000 words in my own tongue to you, that means the language is something you can't understand.
What is it going to profit you?
Me, number one, I'm wasting my time because you can't understand what I'm saying.
Number two, you don't understand what I'm saying.
So you're like, all right, why am I here?
Versus even five words of teaching you something.
That's why Paul back here said, where's the profit?
If you speak in tongues rather than having desire and spiritual gifts.
Brethren, be not children in understanding.
How about a malice, be ye children, but in understanding be ye men.
Don't be a child of one, you know, don't be having understanding of a child.
Grow up, learn, grow up in the Lord.
Now obviously we're all adults here, right?
Doesn't mean we're grown up, right?
We need to mature in the Lord.
There's people 60, 70 years old who have no, they're like kids in this example here.
They haven't spiritually grown.
In the law, it is written, Oh, wait.
Oh, what's this?
Oh, yeah.
You know, dispensational churches out there be like, oh, the laws are abolished.
Well, why is Paul bringing this up for?
If the laws are abolished, what's the point of this?
Why would he bring this up?
What significance does it make?
Might as well just delete it out of the Bible, right?
Just take this verse out of the Bible.
Because the laws were not abolished.
Jesus, many times over, recited the laws and the commandments.
Over and over again.
Why would they waste all those verses and chapters of doing that if they were abolished?
Because they were not abolished.
Because the Lord says, and it's written in Revelation and all that, that the lawless will not enter the kingdom of God.
Now, granted, we're not saved by the law, I'm just saying.
We're saved by grace.
But grace is not a free pass to violate the law, to transgress the law.
What is sin?
1 John, right?
Sin is transgression, which is violation of the law.
So, yeah, you're not getting out of it.
Because dispensationalism, guys, destroyed the churches out there.
So he says, in the law as it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto these people.
And yet for all that they not hear me, says the Lord.
So yeah, you can speak all these tongues and everything else to other people, but if they don't understand you, what good is it?
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not.
But prophesy serves not for them that believe not, but for them that do believe.
So what he's saying is tongues are a sign for the unbelievers.
But, and it's not a contradiction from down here, it's a sign for them if they understand, you know, whatever occasion or what.
But if they don't understand, they're gonna be like, yeah, you gotta turn them away probably.
If, therefore, the whole church comes together into one place, and all speaks with tongues, and there come, and those that are unlearnt, the people who don't know anybody, he's saying, or unbelievers, they will not say that you are mad.
You know, it's funny, because we just got to talk about that.
My brother's situation.
He thought everybody in there was mad.
Well, the person that was on... Yeah, that's what Paul's saying.
The whole church comes together in one place, right?
And everybody in the church, the members, are all speaking in tongues.
Then somebody comes in the church that doesn't know any better, or an unbeliever, right?
They're gonna walk in that church and they're gonna be like, yeah, you people are lunatics.
You either possess or are on some major drugs.
That's what they're gonna think, and they're gonna walk out of there.
That's the point Paul's trying to make here.
But if all prophesied, And they come in, an unbeliever, a person that doesn't know any better, right?
He is convinced of all.
He is judged of all.
Now you're making an effect on these people.
You get what he's saying here?
If you want to reach out to the unbelievers.
And yeah, he's saying, yeah, tongues are a sign to unbelievers, but they need to understand it.
But, to reach out to them more effectively, it's not tongues or dozens.
It's prophesying to them.
Yeah, being people who, again, it's unbelievers, and people who don't know any better.
Which could be a question, could be nothing.
You know, they're interested in going to the church, or they're brand new to the faith.
They'll be like, yeah, okay, I'm out of here.
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest.
So, the secrets in the person's heart is manifested into reality.
So, falling down on his face, and he will worship God, and report that God is in view of the truth.
So, the secrets of his heart made manifest, I think it's Hold down on his face, he will worship God.
So I think that's talking about an unbeliever.
Yeah, if you guys need more clarification on this verse, put it in the comments section.
And I'll try to do more into this.
Yeah.
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest.
So let me get a correct manifest.
So this manifests is bring something tangible into your life through attraction or belief.
Appearance of the Divine Holy Spirit.
Right, to manifest them, come into reality basically, whatever.
So the secrets in their hearts manifest, in other words, they come out.
And they fall down on their face and worship God.
So I think that's talking about the unbelievers.
And how is it then, brethren, When you come together, every one of you has a psalm, has a doctrine, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation.
Let all things be done unto Edelwein.
Everything you do, explain yourself to the people.
So there's no confusion.
That's what he's trying to make here.
The point.
Now, amongst ourselves, I mean, it could be a little different, but especially around unbelievers and people who don't know any better, yeah, you need to edify yourself every step of the way.
And yeah, when Paul says that it's a sign to unbelievers, it's speaking in tongues, so an unbeliever, you know, sees that, and then you interpret it, you can tell them it was, you know, the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Then they're going to be interested to find out why, but if you can't explain things, yeah, They're gonna walk away.
So, if any man speaks an unknown tongue, something that, you know, nobody else can understand, let it be two by two, or at the most by three.
And that by course, and let one interpret it.
So, let it be widely known what's being said.
But if there be no interpreter, let him be silent in the church.
And let himself speak to himself.
And let him speak to himself and to God.
So if you're speaking in tongues and you don't interpret, or you can't interpret it, but you're speaking to God, be silent in the church.
Don't jump out of the ice.
That used to scare the heck out of me sometimes.
Because you're sitting there, you're praying, or the pastor's talking, somebody jumps up out of nowhere.
You're like, what the heck?
And it wakes you up, because you're like, trying to stay awake, you know?
Yeah, it's like, what the heck's going on?
So yeah, if you are speaking in tongues to the Lord only, do it in silence.
So, let the prophet speak two or three, and let the other judge.
So if anything be revealed to one another, to another, I'm sorry, that sits next to you, let the first hold his peace.
In other words, just be quiet.
So if there's something revealed to, like you speak in a tongue, something's revealed to the person next to you, that person, just hold their tongue, just be, don't say nothing.
For you may be all prophecy one by one, that all may learn and all may be comforted.
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. .
For God is not the author of confusion.
So, very important, we hear this a lot, this is a big, very famous verse here.
And notice how they use half of verse, we see it everywhere.
But, anyway, for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, As in all churches of the saints.
They're all true churches of God.
So, what he's trying to say is, yeah.
God's not going to confuse people.
That want to come to him and look into what the faith's about.
Now, obviously, he confined the people of Babylon.
That was for a reason.
He did that because they didn't listen to him.
He told them to be fruitful and multiply.
They didn't listen to him.
Then he started building the Tower of Heaven.
And the goal was for the leaders of Babylon, Nimrod, to take over Heaven.
And Satan, Lucifer, I'm sorry.
He wanted to excel to Heaven.
Like, ascend, I'm sorry.
So anyway, yeah.
So anyway, in this matter, God is not the author of Ephesians.
He's not out there in a confusion.
But peace is all in churches and the saints.
So let your woman keep silence in the churches.
For it is not permitted unto them to speak, but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also says the law.
So I don't want to...
This here, this is like a very sensitive area.
But we can't be too sensitive because we can't sugarcoat the Bible.
So permitted to speak doesn't mean In other words, like, they're not allowed to... And I don't want to... You know, it's hard to talk about this because I know there's a lot of women out there who do Or speak out in churches and everything else, and some are pastors.
But generally, I mean like, unless I'm taking this out of context or whatever, let me know in the comments.
But yeah, generally, you know, the woman to keep silent in the churches.
It's not permitted for them to speak, and they are commanded to be under obedience.
In other words, be under obedience to the husband, as the husband is supposed to be under obedience to Jesus.
And it also says the law.
That most modern day churches say the law is abolished.
Well, why is Paul bringing this up again, second time in this chapter?
And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home.
For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
And that doesn't mean you can't say hi or something.
No, it means speaking to church, like, to get involved with the conversation, like, that's going on.
So, what?
Came from the Word of God out of, from you?
Or came unto you only?
So he's asking, what came?
The Word of God out from you?
Or came unto you only?
So the Word of God, like, is it coming from you?
Out from you, to teach others?
Or is it coming only to you?
So, like, the tongues, right?
The tongues are the same way, too.
It could come to you, for everybody, out of you, to explain to people what's going on in the message from God.
Or is it coming only to you?
So a lot of times we don't go through this and something will pop in our head, like, wow, all right, God's reaching out to me for a reason.
Sometimes it's meant for us to speak about it, to help other people.
Sometimes it's only a message for me.
And I got plenty of those.
God set me straight with different things.
Thank you, Lord.
So if any man dink himself to be a prophet or spiritual, Let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
Again, commandments of the Lord.
So again, if any man thinks himself to be a prophet, if you think you're a prophet or a spiritual, if you think you're a prophet or a spiritual, right?
Acknowledge that these things that Paul's writing unto us are the commandments of the Lord.
But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesize, like earning to want to prophesize, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
So you, number one thing is you want to prophesize, right?
And yeah, if you can speak in tongues, do it.
But under the guidelines that Paul explained.
Don't forbid tongues to be spoken, he's saying.
Except for the guidelines that you just talked about, right?
So, let all things be done decently and in order.
So, there you go.
Let it be done in order.
He's not saying not to speak in tongues.
He's saying that prophecy and all that stuff is more important.
But if you do speak in tongues, yeah, do it decently in an auto.
So if you've got any questions, comments, or anything like that, again, in the regular comments section, that'd be great.
And I know there's a couple of things you probably need more clarification on.
And if you do, please let me know.
So this has been a good study.
Lots of good stuff.
So we've got two chapters left for the first Corinthians.
Then we'll move on to the second Corinthians.
So I'm looking forward to that.
So these chapters fly by.
So guys, thank you so much and don't take my word, anybody else's word for it.
Read it for yourself and go to truthradioshow.com for our local listings, our spiritual warfare Friday shows.
We got a lot, had a lot of great guests and we've got more great guests coming up.
Awesome.
Yeah.
I mean, I just feel blessed that I'm able to host that kind of show.
We're up there sometimes two, three, even four hours answering phone calls, taking prayer requests, praying for people on the air, doing a nice presentation at the beginning of a subject we're talking about, diving deep into spiritual warfare, exposing evil and everything else.
So it's been a blessing.
