truthradioshow.com Shalom and welcome to the Dan Bedani Show on truthradioshow.com and welcome to the book of 1 Corinthians So if you missed chapters 1 to 12, please go back and watch the 1 to 12 to catch up to what's going on here.
So yeah, we do an in-depth comprehensive study of the Bible chapter by chapter.
So we begin by praying for wisdom and understanding.
In this Bible study approach here, pray for wisdom and understanding.
So let's do that right now.
Dear Jesus, here's your Messiah.
We come before you and thank you once again for everything and thank you for giving us life.
Thank you for giving us eternal life through your precious blood and we ask you to please forgive us individually the sins we commit daily and we are so sorry and we love you so much and Heavenly Father we ask you to give us the Holy Spirit today to write your word upon our hearts and today it is 1 Corinthians chapter 13 and help us disseminate this information to bring your word to the truth.
In your mighty name we pray and we ask you to protect us all from the forces of evil and bless our platforms, Lord, that we may continue to broadcast to get the truth out there.
In your mighty name, Amen, and we love you so much and thank you for everything, Heavenly Father.
So, we read the scripture in context, because context is key, and let the scripture interpret itself.
Let the scripture interpret the scripture.
Let the Holy Spirit work through you, and don't lean on your own understanding of the scripture.
So, if you've got a Bible, guys, please open it up.
If not, no worries, we'll get it up on screen.
We use the King James Bible.
So, if you've got a Bible, please open it up, because we always encourage you to read it, so whether it's on the screen or in your own Bible.
1 Corinthians chapter 13.
So let's begin here and again Paul's letter to the Church of Corinth because of the huge division and everything else going on.
So Paul is just like laying the law down basically here.
So, and if you watch chapter 12, obviously, you gotta know what's going on here.
So, again, if you haven't seen chapter 12, or 1 through 12, stop where you are right now and go back and watch it.
So, we don't have to explain everything that's leading up to here.
So, anyway, verse 1 here.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I become a sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
So, charity in the scripture means we're having pure love which our Savior Jesus Christ has.
That's what charity means.
So, he's saying, like, uh, I have not charity.
I am becoming a sound of brass or a tinkled cymbal.
So, loud and, you know, noxious instruments can be like that.
And so, if you don't have love of Christ, whatever, uh, yeah.
And he points that out.
He's not saying he doesn't have it.
So he goes on to say, "...and though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and of all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing." So he's not saying here he doesn't have charity.
So that's why you need to read, especially with Paul, you really need to read in context.
Because you always get one person here, We'll say, oh, he doesn't have charity.
He doesn't have, Paul himself saying, he doesn't have pure love which Christ had.
That's not what he's saying.
Because if you go on to read it, he's making an example.
So yes, he does have pure love.
And Bible scholars will try to say it's a contradiction.
Well, you know, it's not.
You know, nothing at all.
So I like to point these things out as we go along because we need to be sharp as a knife.
Sharp as a sword, I should say.
Because this Bible scholar, especially nowadays, whoo!
These people are everywhere.
They're like raven wolves.
Looking to, you know, whom they may devour.
Which is, you know, Satan does that.
So, these people are everywhere, guys.
So, you need to be on your toes, big time.
So, and yes, Paul does have charity, which is, again, it's pure love which our Savior Christ has.
And Jesus, one of his great commandments is to love one another as he loves us.
So Paul has a gift of prophecy, the gift of understanding all mysteries and all knowledge.
And he also has faith, enough faith to move him out.
And actually, you know, going back to Paul's situation here, If you remember how he became a follower of Jesus Christ, it reminds you who's going around killing Christians.
Jesus caused him to go blind.
Then he seen Jesus in the Spirit.
This is after his crucifixion and resurrection.
Paul seen Jesus in the Spirit.
And Jesus had his eyesight restored.
It could instantly convert him.
So imagine that kind of faith that he has.
He's seen miracles.
And learning from Jesus himself, yeah, that's why he has understanding of all mysteries and the gift of prophecy and all knowledge.
And Paul became a one from a killer, a murderer of Christians into one of the most fiercest apostles there is.
This guy proved himself worth his weight in gold.
And though I bestow all of my goods to feed the poor, like he gets rid of all his goods to feed the poor, sells it, and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity, it profit me nothing.
So he's not, again, he's not saying he doesn't have charity.
He's using that example.
In other words, he's saying if you don't have the love, pure love which Christ had, it's all for nothing.
You can sell all your stuff, donate to charities, and donate to the poor and everything else, and have this or that, these gifts and that gifts, whatever you're saying.
But if you don't have love, like Christ has, it's all for nothing.
Say your prophets mean nothing.
Say it.
And again, he's not saying he doesn't have it.
He does have it.
Because he clarifies it here.
So, charity, suffering long, Yeah.
and is kind.
Charity even is not.
Charity vaunteth not itself.
It is not puffed up.
Let's see what vaunted means.
Vaunted is to boast.
Alright, so, yeah.
So, he's not boasting.
You know, it's like charity suffers long and his kind.
So charity evens not.
Charity boasts not itself, but is not puffed up.
So does not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, and is not easily provoked, dinketh no evil.
So he's saying love doesn't do these things.
Rejoice not in iniquity, but rejoice in the truth.
Iniquity in the Bible is a violation of the right or duty that mankind is under obligation to do.
So in this case, yeah, a violation of God's laws and commandments.
So don't rejoice in evil, but rejoice in truth.
Rejoices to be glad, praising.
Be exceedingly over excited, glad.
So, beareth all things, believe all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never fails.
But whether there be prophecies, they shall fail.
Whether there be tongues, they shall cease.
Whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
For we know a part, and we prophesize in part.
But when in that which is perfect is come, that which is in the part shall be done away.
So he's saying, yeah, charity never fails.
You will always have charity if you have love, you know, to have love all the time.
Yeah, you're going to have gifts and all that, but they're going to go away.
When the Lord's done with you, I mean, you're not going to need them no more.
So you'll prophesize from what?
If the Lord wants you to prophesize of a certain thing coming, and if that only gives you the gift of prophecy just for that prophecy, They're gonna stop the process.
And if he wanted to give you the gift of tongues just for one incident, maybe two, after he's done with that, they're gonna cease.
And given you great knowledge to accomplish a certain thing, they're gonna fade away, vanish away.
In other words, you're not gonna get no more knowledge.
Because God points everybody a certain, like we went over in the last chapter, He points everybody a certain ability to do certain things.
And when He's done with the person, yeah, He doesn't give you the gift of prophecies for the rest of the time to know the rest.
Certain prophecies for a certain work, and yeah, it could be many prophecies, it could be one.
For we know in a part, and we prophesize in a part, So, what does that mean?
You play a part, literally, for the Lord.
Like, me doing what I'm doing here?
Yeah, it's... I don't know how long the Lord's gonna use me to do what I do.
But eventually, it could stop.
you could say, all right, you've done your job, thank you.
And move me on to something else.
Who knows?
You know what I mean?
So everybody's got that part in this team as we put it in the last chapter there.
But when that which is perfect is come, then which is in part shall be done away.
So again, like I was saying, when your job is done for the Lord, that's it.
In other words, let me give you another example, right?
Just say the Lord wants you to walk through... Alright, He wants you to accomplish something, right?
You need to get to a certain land to accomplish a gift, I'm sorry, to accomplish a mission for Him.
He gives you gifts that say, go prophesy to the people on a certain land.
But to get to there, there's a pit of vipers and snakes.
You gotta go through it, right?
So he's gonna allow you to go through there, use the gifts of prophecy and whatever else he gives you, right?
And you say he just wants you to do that, that's your task, right?
So when you're done and you come back home, those gifts are gone.
Because he's done with you.
And he can move you on to something else, or another mission of something completely different.
This is what Paul's trying to explain.
But just because somebody has a prophecy doesn't mean they know all the prophecy.
You know, it's a... Guy again, I have to emphasize this.
When God gives you a gift for something, it's for his purpose.
Not for you to run around, oh look at me, I can do this and that.
No, that's not how it works.
He gives you a gift for a purpose.
Once that mission is accomplished, you know, that one mission or X amount of missions that he sets you up to do, once it's done, you know, you don't have those things no more.
Like for example, let me give a great example here, right?
When Jesus, his time was coming, and he knew it.
So, the twelve apostles, right?
He gave them the gifts to, I'm sorry, yeah, the gifts to heal people, the authority as well, to heal people and forgive sins.
And cast out devils.
So, the time was coming shorter, that we needed, what he did was separate them, you know, two by two.
Then he called upon 70 apostles.
They created 70 apostles, those are the people they taught and all that.
So they went all through the land, I think it was two by two, went all through the land, and every one of them, the 70 plus the 12 disciples, all had Gifts of healing, gifts of forgiving, which is the authority to forgive sin, and to cast out devils.
But, did it mean they had this ability to forgive sins for the rest of their lives?
No.
When their missions were accomplished, they didn't have it no more.
They didn't go live the rest of their life healing people.
You know, just miraculously walking up to somebody and healing them.
They didn't live the rest of their life to be able to forgive sins.
No.
When their part was done, okay, their mission was done, it was done away with.
Now obviously right here, Paul's still on a mission for Jesus.
But his part will be done away with too.
That's what he's trying to explain here.
But when that which is perfect is come, what's that mean?
The accomplishment that the Lord set you on.
Then that which is in that pot shall be done away.
And I want to point out too, it doesn't mean God wants you completely.
He can move you on to better things.
Like for instance, right, I, before I became a talk show host, I went to, and I felt, really felt that the Lord did this.
I can't tell you how many jobs I had.
About 30 different careers.
So, some of the places I was like, oh man, I can't wait to get out of here.
But, you know, I say the Lord's got me here for a reason.
I used to be the person that just talked to everybody.
So, in the cafeteria at lunch and everything else, I had a group of people around me, and I was teaching them things.
Went from one person to two people.
Then they're like, oh, you gotta hear this guy, what he's saying.
And, you know, tell them they're buddies.
And all of a sudden I got a group of people at the lunch table listening to what I have to say, or on break, or whatever.
Or during a job.
So, when I fulfilled a certain accomplishment for the Lord, for a certain mission, He moved me on somewhere else.
To do similar things and everything else, and sometimes it's totally different things.
Then when I was done with that, And it was done away with those things, and I was able to, he gave me another gift for the talk shows and all that stuff.
So I'm just trying to use examples to get, to really get this in your head.
So basically, again, it did mean the Seventy Apostles, or Disciples, I'm sorry.
The Seventy Disciples, they had the gift of healing people, And also to cast out demons and to be able to forgive sins.
Now, the casting out demons, we all could do that.
Well, and it's not us doing it.
You know, them, when they had the power, they just put their hand on the person and they commanded the demons to get out because Jesus authorized them to do that.
Now, today, to do that, it's not us doing it.
We'll pray for the person who's possessed, but it's the Holy Spirit that works through us that does it.
And yeah, we can heal people today.
But again, it's not us doing it.
We don't directly have the power to do that, or authority.
We have it through Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.
That's where it comes from.
So I just want to let people know, because all these little variables, because people... I'm sure those were questions you wanted to ask.
Oh, can we still do this?
We can do that?
Yeah, you can.
But it's through the Holy Spirit.
But these people have been given gifts directly to do these things.
To spread the gospel.
And Paul here saying, Hey, yeah, people have these gifts.
Yeah.
It's going to come a time when your mission is done.
Your part's been played.
Like you wouldn't look great example here.
You go in the military, right?
You're a helicopter pilot.
On a helicopter, you got missiles, you got guns and everything else, right?
Yeah.
You get trains and you have the ability and like you have the ability to go help people with these weapons.
When you're done with your military tour, guess what?
You don't bring that helicopter home.
Your days of flying armed military aircraft are done.
Because you've done your part.
If this makes any sense to you.
Alright, so, verse 11.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child.
I understood as a child.
I thought as a child.
But when I became a man, I put away childish things.
So this is Paul again, like we explained in the last chapter.
See, Paul, he just didn't say something.
He emphasized on it.
Like Jesus did with the parables, he emphasizes on what he's talking about, so you cannot possibly misunderstand him.
That's why you need to read the Bible in context.
It's very important to understand that.
Because now he goes on to explain himself more.
Say, listen, when I was a child, I spoke as a child, understood as a child, thought as a child, but had no clue of what an adult is, right?
But when he became a man, and like all of us, when we were children, we spoke as children, understood as children, and thought as a child, right?
But now us as adults, like Paul here, becoming a man or a woman, whoever you are, we put away those childish things.
For some of them.
Yeah, people probably childish in some ways, but yeah, you get the point.
So for now we see through the glass, a glass darkly, but then face to face.
So for now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part.
But then shall I know even also I am known.
Thank you.
So when you read single verses from Paul, it sounds like a riddle.
But when you read it in context, it's a whole chapter with a particular subject you're talking about.
Could be a paragraph, could be a chapter or two.
You fully understand what he's saying.
And now, abideth in faith, hope Charity, these three here, he's saying.
Abide in faith.
Have faith, have hope in Christ.
And charity, have love for everybody.
These three things.
But the greatest of these is charity.
Now what's that?
The number one great commandment from Jesus.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Again, charity is pure love, which our Savior Jesus Christ has.
He has commanded us to love one another as he loves us.
That's the first great commandment.
And again, he says to abide in faith, have, you know, faith, hope, and charity.
Faith, hope, and love.
That faith, all things are done through Christ.
Hope, which we know, we have hope in us.
We're not hoping, but we have hope.
You know what I'm saying, if it makes sense?
We have hope that Jesus is coming back for us.
Because of faith and knowledge in Him, we have hope that He is coming back, and He is.
And we have charity, that we love one another.
So he's telling people in this church here, because again, the Church of Corinth, he's addressing, because the biggest problem going on in this church here, is division.
Now, monks like today, in the body of Christ, how many people are divided today?
We might debate things, we may, all that, but you need to stay, faith, hope, and charity with each other.
To love one another.
Regardless if they believe in the different, you know, like, um, you know, like they, you know, some believe one saved always saves, some believe, uh, the pre-tribulation rapture, some believe in the post-tribulation rapture.
Some people don't.
But you know, if you have faith, love, and hope in Christ's journey there, we need to stay together.
And in the end, the Lord will settle, sort things out.
The Lord will, you know, tell them the truth eventually.
But you can't go wrong.
The truth is right here in the scriptures.
That's why we always encourage people to read in context.
Because religions destroy people's faith.
They've got prosperity doctrines, dispensationalist doctrines that are not even biblical.
Because they take a couple verses out of context, jump over to another chapter, another book, bounce all over the place to fit a story that's not there.
And if you notice, they never read full chapters like this.
So one more time, and now by the faith, hope, charity, these three things, but the greatest of these is charity.
So out of everything, the best thing you can have is love for Jesus Christ.
Because our faith, guys, everybody's got a different level of faith.
You got the human nature sometimes, you know, even the best of us sometimes lose a little faith.
Because we get overwhelmed with stupid things and everything else that's going on in the world.
Hope, sometimes we lose a little hope sometimes.
But you gotta bring yourself, reel yourself back in.
It's like, you know what?
God's in charge, I need to calm down.
Your faith comes back, your hope comes back.
These things come and go at different levels.
Charity, that's the most important one.
If you constantly keep the love, pure love, which our Savior Jesus Christ has.
So if you've got any questions, comments, or anything like that, guys, please put it in the comment section.
So I hope I made this very clear, because it's... I understand sometimes people, like, when you read through this, 13 verses on this chapter, which is short.
We could have probably done this in, like, a minute.
But again, I have to emphasize all the time that that's not how you read the Bible.
It's not a comic book or a novel you read in.
No, this is...
A detailed verse by verse.
You know how much context is involved with these things?
One single verse has a lot of context involved.
Then you put that together into full context.
Look up words you don't know what it means.
No shame in that.
So always remember these things.
Take your time.
Read in the Bible.
There's no rush.
It's not a race.
And I know there's Bible apps out there that help you read the Bible in a year.
Alright, that's good.
But, if you're not absorbing the knowledge, looking up words that you don't know, it's important to know these things.
Even the smallest word, they could change the whole outcome of the verse, if you don't know what these things mean.
To have a pure, full understanding of the scripture, you need to know everything.
And it's no shame, again, looking up words, I mean.
This is what a Bible study is, not just reading through it.
That's not a Bible study.
Because you get pastors out there, they'll start at verse 1 here, right?
If they go through the, you know, most of the time it's 3 or 4 verses, not even.
But if they do go through the whole chapter, they'll just read right through it.
Very rarely you see somebody do this.
Explain things in detail.
That's why it's important to understand it so you can teach other people.
And again, we talk about Bible scholars all the time.
