So if you missed chapters 1 through 16 please go watch them in the playlist before you proceed any further.
So, again, welcome to the Book of Acts.
And what we do, guys, we do a specific Bible study approach.
Number one, we pray for wisdom and understanding.
Very important, guys.
So, let's do that right now.
So, Jesus, Yeshua Messiah, we come to you.
Thank you so much for being our Messiah, our Savior, Son of Man, the Son of God, the First and the Last, the Alpha and Omega.
Thank you, Lord.
And just please forgive us all individually of our individual sins and trespasses and abominations.
Anything we may have done wrong with the Lord, we ask for your forgiveness.
And Heavenly Father, we come before you and ask you to give us the divine wisdom and understanding today of your word, the book of Acts chapter 17 today.
We ask you to write the Holy Spirit upon our hearts so we can learn your word to be written upon our hearts by the Holy Spirit as the divine teacher, as you gave us the divine teacher after Jesus.
And we are the divine comfort as well.
And we ask you to comfort everybody here.
If anybody's going through any kind of spiritual, physical, anything that's bothering them, we ask you to comfort them, Lord, and protect us all from the forces of evil.
And renew us, Lord, in your faith.
Renew us, Lord, in your strength.
Renew us all in your Holy Spirit.
We pray, amen.
And what we do, guys, is we read the Scripture in context, because context is key.
Very important to understand us.
And let the scripture interpret the scripture.
Don't lean on your own understanding.
Let the Holy Spirit work through you.
And this here, guys, you follow this, you can learn the Bible better than any seminary school, any Bible academy, any college, any university, any church, anywhere.
The Holy Spirit is a better teacher than any professor and priest and pastor will combine on the earth.
So understand that, guys.
It's very important to read the Scriptures for yourself.
It's key.
It's imminent.
You have to understand the Word of God.
You can only do that with the Holy Spirit.
So, Acts chapter 17, and now, when they had passed through in Phiblius, in Aponia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
So, I'm going to apologize ahead of time, because some of these names, guys, of the cities and all that, is real tongue twister for me.
I apologize about that, but it is right there on the screen, if you're watching on...
The video edition.
We've got the King James Bible.
And if you don't...
Not watching, I'm sorry, on the screen.
If you're listening on the Shake and Wake video version, the audio edition, please take out your own Bible and open up Acts chapter 17. So, again, I apologize ahead of time about mispronouncing the cities.
Yeah, it's very tongue-twisting for me, so I do apologize.
So, please bear with me, guys.
So we have Paul, remember Saul, now his name is Paul, as his manna was, went unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures.
So what does that mean, three Sabbath days?
Thank you.
So obviously we have the weekly Sabbath, right?
What does this mean, three Sabbath days?
So this sounds like to me, and I'm almost sure, in other words, for three weeks.
For three weeks, every Sabbath, he went into the synagogue of the Jews.
To preach.
Right?
And opening in a legend that Christ must have suffered and have risen again from the dead and that Jesus, this Jesus, whom I preach unto you is the Christ.
In other words, the Messiah.
Paul's saying, this Christ I preach unto you, he has risen from the dead and he is the Messiah that's been prophesied for thousands of years.
And from all the scripture at the time, it was only the Old Testament and the Torah and whatever, this is the prophesied Christ.
This is the prophesied Messiah.
And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas.
And of the devout Greeks, a great multitude, that's a lot of people.
A lot of people, a lot of Greeks.
And of the chief woman, not a few.
So that's a lot of people to talk about here.
So, yeah.
So imagine preaching in front of a synagogue full of people.
Because remember, everybody attended the synagogue.
Just about, right?
These places are huge.
But the Jews, which didn't believe, moved with envy and took upon them certain lewd fellows of the Bosa Salt.
So what does lewd mean?
Lude is crude and offensive in sexual way.
So they're rude, sexual, and everything.
That's perverted.
That's what that's talking about, right?
So this is what the Jews did.
They did this purposely to distort the teachings of Jesus.
Everywhere the apostles went, they were Jews here to try to distort the teachings of Jesus.
So they would have people, lewd people, pay them whatever they would do, just purposely to start trouble.
So certain lewd fellows, certain means the ones that chose, they basically paid them whatever the case, to start trouble.
And gather their company...
And set all the city under uproar.
So this was going on, right?
So the Jews, they didn't believe that Jesus was the Messiah or anything like that.
So to disrupt Paul's teaching, right?
His preaching.
They had these people who they purposely put there.
They gathered a company, like a big number of people, and set the city in uproar.
Going around causing trouble for the apostles.
And assaulted the house of Jason.
And sought to bring them out to the people.
So they went and stirred up a bunch of trouble, went to the house of Jason, and assaulted the house, and went into the house to bring them out to the people.
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and a certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, that these have turned the world upside down, and are come here to hear they were also.
So they brought Jason and a certain brethren to the rulers of the city.
Whom Jason has received, and all these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
So this is what they're doing, these little fellows here.
They went around and stood up all this trouble with all the people, right?
These people in here causing trouble, they're turning our world upside down, they're going against our beliefs, they're blaspheming against our king, right?
Caesar.
So, that's what they're saying, right?
And they're saying, there's another king.
This is blasphemy against Caesar.
That's what these people start up to struggle.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.
So, it wasn't an issue.
I mean, Paul was in the synagogue's teaching of Jesus, right?
The Jews were so bent out of shape that they purposely had these lewd people go in and stop problems.
Going around stirring up trouble over the city, wiling everybody up, all for what?
Because they were jealous of Jesus.
Even though their own scriptures talked about Jesus coming, they still denied Him.
Unreal.
So, again, and they were troubled, the people, in the woods of the city when they heard these things.
And when they had taken the security of Jason...
In other words, they got him in captive, whatever the case, they got him apprehended, whatever the case.
And the other, they let them go.
So the rulers, when they took security adjacent, they let them go.
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by the night into Berea, whose coming to them went into the synagogue of the Jews.
So they immediately let Jason go.
And, you know, because there was a bunch of chaos going on, right?
And a brethren immediately sent away Paul.
And Silas says, guys, get out of here.
While the tension's off, you guys go.
And Jason was later separated because he had nothing.
I mean, it wasn't Jason that wasn't causing the problems to them.
It was Paul.
So why they went after Jason, I don't know.
But while the distraction was on Jason, the brethren said, all right, Paul and Silas, go.
Get out of here.
And it was nighttime, you know.
So these were more noble than those in Thessalonica.
In that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so.
And so these people here in Thessalonica They received the word from what Paul was saying, right?
And with all readiness of mind, right?
And what they were doing is they were reproving them.
They were challenging them, sorry.
We're going to search the scriptures and they did daily to see whether those things Paul was speaking was true.
And sure enough, yes, exactly what the scriptures said, how Jesus would come, he'd be crucified, you know, for our sins, I'm sorry, he would die for our sins and everything.
Everything that the scriptures foretold It matches everything that Paul was telling them.
And therefore, many of them believed, because remember, they were searching the scriptures.
Yeah, Paul's right.
Many of them believed.
And also, honorable women, which were Greeks, of men, not a few.
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came dither also and stirred up the people.
So here we go again.
So now Paul's in Thessalonica preaching the word of God.
Now the Jews have to go.
It's like, oh yeah, we can't have this.
They start up trouble then.
And then immediately the brethren sent Paul away to go, as it were, to the sea.
But Silas and Timothus abode there still.
So they're like, Paul, you need to go.
Go to your next destination.
So Silas and Timothus stood there, and they didn't go anywhere.
They stayed in Thessalonica.
And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens, and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotus, for to come to him with all speed they departed.
So in other words, like the commandment unto Silas and Tim, you need to come here now.
With all speed, in other words, right away.
A-S-A-P. And Silas and Timothus departed right away.
Now, while Paul waited for them at Athens, right?
So Paul's waiting for Timothus and Silas, as you can see here.
Because here's the thing, Paul went there, you know, he left and he's like, all right, there's a reason why he, you know, because at first Timothus and Silas stayed behind and Thessalonicus, right?
So something was staring at Paul.
That's why he called right away, get here now, right?
ASAP, right away, immediately.
To Silas and Timotus, right?
So now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred up in him.
So something wasn't sitting right with him.
That's what was going on.
When he saw the city wholly given to idolatry, And if you know anything about the scriptures, guys, especially in the Old Testament, God does not sit too well with idolatry.
How many cities did he destroy, completely destroy over idolatry?
So they're playing with some spiritual fire.
That's what's going on.
Now, Paul was very upset about this.
And, you know, basically he had this feeling in him like, all right, this is bad.
Because I guess Paul was intended to go there without Silas and Timothy, right?
Yeah.
Well, he wanted them there right away.
So therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews and with the devout persons and in the market daily with them that met with him.
So disputed with these people, hey, listen, you gotta turn away from your ways, man, and follow Jesus.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and again, I apologize about the pronunciation of cities.
Sorry about that, guys.
And of the Stoics encountered him.
So philosophers of these two cities encountered Paul.
And some said, what will this Babylon say?
Call Paul a Babylon.
Right?
In other words, this guy's talking out of his butt.
Even today we get this, right?
When you get a lot of these so-called scholars or whatever, philosophers, they think they're better than everybody.
Because they got a piece of paper from a university or something that says they're a philosopher or a scholar or whatever the case.
That means nothing to God, by the way.
Yeah.
All that does is give people egos.
You know what I mean?
And if you look at all the apostles and the prophets and everything, none of them have any of those such degrees or any education like that.
They were taught directly by the Holy Spirit.
That's just what I'm trying to teach you guys today.
We need to learn by the Holy Spirit.
A college or a church university doesn't mean nothing to the Lord.
You can't learn the scriptures through academia.
Sure, you can learn how to spell these things and, you know, pronounce the cities, but there's no spiritual application when you learn the scriptures through academia.
So the same thing with these philosophers.
They knew the scriptures back then.
It was the same deal.
But they didn't have it applied spiritually.
That's the problem.
So anyway, they're sitting here, you know, they got together, right, in account of Paul, and just, you know, mocking him.
What will this Babel say today, right?
Other some, and he seemed to be the set of forth of strange gods, because he preached unto them Jesus and the resurrection.
So they think Paul is preaching strange gods.
Notice the low case change.
And I want to point that out that's very important to know, guys, because people who scoff the Bible, they purposely put this out.
And they say, well, God talks about other gods.
Now, every time he talks about anything other than himself, right, with the reference of God or gods, it's always a lowercase g.
Remember that, right?
And when it's addressed to him, our Heavenly Father, it's always a capital G. Just keep that in mind, right?
And I know we talked about it in the last chapter.
And I have to bring these, sorry to sound redundant, guys, but we all need to be kept reminded of this stuff because the devil, he's very cunning.
He'll use these little things against us.
Oh, listen, we talked about all the gods, whatever.
No, they're false gods.
In this scripture, when you see, again, locates G for God of gods, it's a false god.
That's what it's for for us to do.
That's not a real God.
There's only one God.
The Bible makes this very clear.
Anyway, they took him and brought him on to Areopagus, saying, may we know what this new doctrine, therefore, you speak of.
What is it?
What's this doctrine you're speaking of, Paul?
So these philosophers, they took him to Areopagus, right?
And they want to know, what doctrine you're speaking of?
What is this, right?
Right?
For though bring us certain strange things to our ears, we would know, therefore, what these things mean.
So, here's the thing.
The philosophers, right?
They're puzzled.
Because these are the smart people, right?
They know everything, whatever the case.
But here's Paul speaking something, and none of them understand what Paul's saying.
Because, again, and this goes to today, right?
They're smart people, but they don't have the Holy Spirit in them.
It's not applied to them spiritually.
So they have no clue.
They take the spirituality out of the Bible in today's world.
They think the sons of the fallen angels, they think they didn't have sex with the woman on the earth in Genesis 6 when the Bible says exactly what they did.
They had children.
And they try to dismiss all the supernatural parts of the Bible.
That's today's scholars and whatnot, right?
It's unbelievable.
Sickness.
But these people, again, these philosophers knew the doctrine, right?
And they asked Paul, what doctrine are you speaking of?
Because he's bringing the testimony of Jesus Christ.
And he's saying, you're bringing certain strange things to what he is.
In other words, things I can't understand.
We would know, therefore, what these things mean.
And I think that just...
Bend out of shape because they don't know what it means.
Anyway, for all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time and nothing else but either to tell or to hear something known.
Then Paul stood up in the midst of Mars Hill and said, You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious.
So now he has Paul raising up.
So as Paul is saying, yeah, you guys are superstitious.
In other words, you're worried about all this other stuff, right?
And for, as I passed by and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, to the unknown God, whom therefore you ignorantly worship him and declare unto you.
Because that's Das and Paul, right?
They're saying, like, oh, you're not speaking the scriptures, talk about the Old Testament, right?
You're saying strange things to me, and this is philosophers, and they'll be known as scholars today, right?
Sitting here trying to, you know, buff up to Paul.
And say, oh yeah, these are strange things, you're speaking and everything else, right?
Mocking them.
You know, what kind of babbling are you going to speak today, right?
So Paul, remember, when he first entered the city there, he had, you know, something triggered his spiritual alarm, basically.
Because the city was full of idolatry.
So now Paul speaks up.
He's sitting in the midst of Mars Hill.
And like started like really hammering his people, right?
Now, again, when I said the low case, see, this is all capital, so that doesn't matter.
This is a false god, yeah.
But he's quoting what the scripture said.
Inscription, I'm saying, on the altar.
It was all capital, to the unknown God, right?
So anyway, he's like, you guys, okay, I found an altar with this inscription, the altar you guys are praising on, right?
It says, to the unknown God, whom therefore you ignorantly worship, and him I declare, yeah, him declare I am here.
So who's the unknown God?
Why would you worship something like that?
An unknown God?
That's what Paul's drilling these people out.
Because you're sitting here drilling me.
Now it's my turn to drill you because you guys, okay, you've got idol tree all over the place and you've got an altar with an inscription to the unknown God.
Are you kidding me?
God, you know, this is talking about the Father now, or capital G, that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is the Lord of heaven and earth, dwell not in the temples made with hands.
And this is today, you know, this really gets me, because everything in here you think of today, right?
Really look at this for a minute, right?
This goes to today too, guys.
You think God dwells in a building you call a church?
Made with hands and brick and mortar and all that?
Especially after these churches discuss what they do.
The church is us, the people.
Wherever we gather, that's the church.
It could be your van, your backyard, your basement.
Well, yeah, this is Paul, and this is supposed to be a temple here that Paul's talking about, right?
And he says, God that made heaven and earth and everything else, right?
Seeing that the Lord of heaven and earth dwells not in the temples made with hands.
Neither is worship with men's hands as though he needed anything.
Seeing that he gives to all life and breath all things.
He's saying God doesn't need nothing.
He doesn't need your money.
Doesn't need your goods or anything like that.
He gives all things.
Because these are the things that they would do in churches.
You know what I mean?
10% of your tithes, all this stuff, and they take that out of context and everything else, right?
And Paul's saying, no.
God doesn't need any of these things.
He's the one who gives all life.
And breathes into all things, right?
And he has made one blood of all nations of men who dwell on all the face of the earth.
And has determined that times before appointed and bound their habitation.
Yeah.
He has made of one blood of all nations.
So, in other words, he's saying it doesn't matter what your skin color is.
You are a bloodline, whatever the case.
You believe it on Jesus, we're all one blood now.
We're the blood of Jesus.
So if everybody's got the idea, oh, my bloodline goes back to King David, or my bloodline goes back to the African roots, whatever, it doesn't matter.
Your bloodline does not determine, or your color does not determine at all your salvation.
Anybody who believes in Jesus right now, you can believe in Spanish, Hispanic, I'm sorry, Asian, black, white, whatever the case, we are now all of one blood.
That they should seek the Lord if happily they might feel after Him and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us.
So this is Paul saying God's right here.
If you look for Him, He's right there.
You seek the Lord and you'll find Him.
You don't have to look far because He's right there.
For in Him we live and move and have our being.
As certain also of your own poets have said, for we are also his offspring.
We are his children, that's what he's saying.
For as much then as we are the offspring of God, we are not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold or silver or stone or graven by man's device.
In the times of this ignorant God winked at you.
But now commandeth all men everywhere...
I hope I didn't say that wrong.
In the times of this ignorance...
I'm sorry, not ignorant God, I apologize, but forgive me God.
And he goes, in the times of this ignorance, right?
That the ignorance they're committing, because they think that...
All to the unknown God, there's synagogues and temples and all that, or something.
And Paul's saying, no, it's ignorance.
He's not saying God's ignorant.
I apologize about that.
He said, the times of this ignorance, he's saying, God winked at.
In other words, like, yeah.
He winked at it, but, you know, he was serious about it, but, you know, yeah, he just winked at it at the time.
But now, commandment all men everywhere to repent.
So he's saying in the past, God looked the other way a couple times.
Or maybe, you know, he didn't take it as serious, whatever the case.
Because of this ignorance here that man has.
God may have winked at it a little bit.
But now commands every man to repent, everyone.
So, because of Jesus, now everyone needs to repent to be saved.
Period.
That's what Paul's saying.
And because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he had ordained.
Wherefore he has given assurance unto all men in that he has raised him from the dead.
Talk about Jesus.
He is your assurance of everlasting life.
He's ordained.
He's given us all the assurance, guys.
We believe in Him that we're not going to suffer a spiritual death.
And Jesus has raised from the dead.
And when they heard of the resurrection, you know, the people listening to Paul, the philosophers and everything else, when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked Paul.
And others said, we will hear thee again of this matter.
So the people, there were some people who mocked him and some people were interested in what Paul was saying.
So Paul departed from among them, so he left to sit.
Anyway, and how about certain men clave unto him and believed, among which were Dionysus the Arrogate, and a woman named Damaris and others with them.
So which will, you know, these names are synonymous with the next chapter.
So, basically, these people claimed down to Paul.
In other words, they were interested in what Paul was saying, so they followed Paul and believed.
And these are the people which pertain to the next chapter, chapter 18. So, guys, if you've got any questions or comments about anything we talked about today...
Or any more clarification you need, put it in the comment section and I'll get back to you for sure.
But again, I got to apologize because some of these city names I couldn't pronounce or save my life.
And I just hope I get the message out today.
But this is Paul in the synagogues.
He's getting, you know, same thing would happen to Jesus, right?
Mocking him.
People mocked him.
Some people waved.
And yeah, the Jew, even when they did the same thing to Jesus, so purposely set people up to go cause trouble.
Just to rile everybody up and to try to dismantle Paul.
Which didn't work.
Paul handed it right back to them, just like Jesus did.
That's what I like about Paul.
You know the thing is, a lot of false religions, they hate Paul.
Why is that?
The Gnostics hate Paul.
The Essenes hate Paul.
Especially the Kabbalistic people, in which they're all the same fundamental teachings.
You know, Gnosticism, Essenes, and the Kabbalistic people.
Yeah, and they all hate Paul.
Why is that?
Because Paul didn't put up with people's crap.
Paul told you how it was, the way it was.
He was bold and fearless, just like Jesus.
That's why.
And that's why all these fake religions out there, they sit there and bash Paul to no end.
They lie about Jesus, make something up that he's not, that's saying that Jesus is a vegetarian, a vegan, whatever it is.
No, none of that stuff.
These people are liars from the synagogue of Satan.
That's what they're from.
And the Jewish religion, too.
You know, a lot of Jewish people hate Paul.
Why is it all religions hate Paul?
You gotta ask yourself that.
So, no way, because like I said, Paul was one of the most effective apostles there is.
That's why Jesus chose him.
Remember Paul, right?
He was known to Saul.
Went around killing Christians.
Jesus caused him to go blind, knocked him off his horse and everything, and he's seen Jesus in the Spirit with his blindness.
Jesus healed him, his blindness, and he became one of the most moneyiest and massively effective apostles there is.
He took the Jewish's greatest warrior, basically, and turned him into an apostle, one of the strongest apostles ever.
And that's why all these religions hate Paul.
You hear it everywhere.
And if you don't know what any of these religions are, guys, they're cults.
That's what they are.
They pollute and pervert the Bible, and it's horrible what they do.
